NXT 2/14/18 Review: The Pirate Princess Wants Vengeance

Published

on

NXT on February 14, 2018, was a good show that is building up characters, storylines, and feuds down the road. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package hyping up Ember Moon Vs. Shayna Baszler for the NXT Women’s Championship and Pete Dunne Vs. Roderick Strong for the WWE United Kingdom Championship. This is good as it’s hyping up the matches for the show which should be awesome so let’s get to them. Well produced video package here.

Pete Dunne Vs. Roderick Strong for the WWE United Kingdom Championship was an excellent match. Mark out moment! These two men went out there and delivered an excellent match where neither man looked weak in the process.

Roderick Strong did excellent in this match as he wants to become the first North American to win the WWE United Kingdom Championship. His backbreaker on the steel steps and his fireman’s carry drop on the ring apron on Pete Dunne looked painful as heck. His dropkick to counter Pete Dunne’s diving double axe handle was well executed and his Avalanche Olympic Slam on Pete Dunne was impressive. Excellent work by Roderick Strong here.

Pete Dunne did excellent in this match as well as he continued to show why he is the WWE United Kingdom Champion. The way he was working on Roderick Strong’s arm throughout the whole match was excellent in-ring psychology. The way he grabbed Roderick Strong’s fingers and snapped them looked it broke them. Excellent work by Pete Dunne here.

The ending of the match came when Pete Dunne hit Roderick Strong with Bitter End (Pumphandle lift into a reverse STO) for the pin and win. A great win for Pete Dunne as he retains his WWE United Kingdom Championship once again. Also, this may be Roderick Strong’s last match in NXT as he recently took part of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament and made it to the second round so he might be a part of the cruiserweight division going forward and if that’s the case, I wish Roderick Strong luck and I want to thank him for his time in NXT. Bruiserweight!

Excellent match and I’m interested to see who will be Pete Dunne’s next opponent for the WWE United Kingdom Championship next and thank you Roderick Strong!

We then get an announcement that next week, it will be Andrade “Cien” Almas Vs. Johnny Gargano for the NXT Championship where if Johnny Gargano loses, he leaves NXT. It should be an awesome match next week and I can’t wait to see it.

We then get a video package highlighting the feud between Andrade “Cien” Almas and Johnny Gargano. This is good as it’s hyping up the match between Andrade “Cien” Almas and Johnny Gargano next week for the NXT Championship which should be awesome. Looking forward to it.

The backstage interview with Velveteen Dream was good. Velveteen Dream was walking backstage as a bunch of reporters came up to him and asked about Kassius Ohno. Velveteen Dream told a reporter that he’s not answering that because he looks horrible. Another reporter then asked Velveteen Dream about his match against No Way Jose next week as he said that No Way Jose will bring the fiesta while Velveteen Dream will bring the experience as he then talked about Tyler Bate as he thinks that Tyler Bate is a fool for thinking that he’s on the same level as him. A reporter then asked him about Tyler Bate as Velveteen Dream ignored him and left.

Oh man, Velveteen Dream thinks that Tyler Bate is unworthy to face someone like him. Interesting. I sense a feud/match between these two down the road and when it happens, it should be great. Good backstage interview here.

The in-ring promo segment between Aleister Black and Killian Dain was good. Aleister Black came out to the ring as he talked about how an era stood in his way, but he managed to overcome that era as he now has a devil on that shoulder and that devil on his shoulder is the NXT Championship.

As Aleister Black was about to continue, Killian Dain came out and entered the ring with a mic in hand as he told Aleister Black that the devil on his back is not the NXT Championship, but it’s him. He then told Aleister Black that he won’t stop until the NXT Championship is around his waist. He then told Aleister Black if he has a problem with that, then he will be brought down by chaos.

Killian Dain was about to leave the ring until Aleister Black called his name out and walked up to him and said that he has crossed him and as a result, he will fade to black as Killian Dain left with a smile on his face.

It seems like we have ourselves a potential #1 Contender’s match between Aleister Black and Killian Dain which is fine by me as I would love to see these two collide in NXT. Looking forward to it when the time comes. Fade to black!

Good in-ring segment as I’m looking forward to the potential match between Aleister Black and Killian Dain.

TM-61 Vs. Andrew Duckworth & John Skyler was a good tag team squash match. John Skyler made another appearance on NXT! Mark out moment! Nice to see John Skyler on the show again, but where is Corey Hollis? Anyway, that’s for another time.

Andrew Duckworth and John Skyler did get a bit of offense in this match, but it wasn’t enough as TM-61 finished them off as they hit Thunder Valley (Double-team gorilla press slam) on John Skyler for the pin and win. A good win for TM-61 as they got themselves another victory because they are The Mighty and The Mighty Don’t Kneel!

Good tag team squash match and I can’t wait to see what’s next for TM-61 in the NXT Tag Team division.

Ember Moon Vs. Shayna Baszler for the NXT Women’s Championship was a great women’s match for what it was. This was the rematch from NXT Philadelphia and these two women went out there and tear each other down for the time they had.

Ember Moon’s suicide dive on Shayna Baszler was beautifully executed. The way Shayna Baszler was working on Ember Moon’s arm throughout the whole match was great in-ring psychology. Great work by both women here.

The ending of the match came when Shayna Baszler was about to break Ember Moon’s arm outside of the ring, but Kairi Sane came out from the crowd as she hit a diving forearm smash from the steel steps on Shayna Baszler to cause the disqualification as Ember Moon retains her NXT Women’s Championship. This was a nice way to keep the belt on Ember Moon while still making Shayna Baszler so I was fine with this decision here.

After the match, Kairi Sane and Shayna Baszler fought each inside the ring until Shayna Baszler rolled out of the ring and slowly retreated. Kairi Sane then checked on Ember Moon before Shayna Baszler was about to attack her from behind, but Kairi Sane hit a spear on Shayna Baszler as Shayna Baszler retreated up the ramp.

It seems like Kairi Sane is back and she wants Shayna Baszler in the worst possible way and I don’t blame her as she took her out two months ago. I have a feeling these two will feud to determine who will be the next #1 Contender for the NXT Women’s Championship, but we’ll see.

Great women’s match for what it was and I’m looking forward to seeing Kairi Sane and Shayna Baszler facing each other once again down the line.

Overall, a good show that is building up characters, storylines, and feuds down the road. Next week, we will get Andrade “Cien” Almas Vs. Johnny Gargano for the NXT Championship and No Way Jose Vs. Velveteen Dream which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
