205 Live on March 6, 2018, was a great show. 205 Live is a show where the cruiserweights take center stage as they will risk their bodies to entertain us wrestling fans. Let’s break it down:
We start off the show with a video package highlighting the quarter-final matches of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament including Cedric Alexander Vs. TJP and Roderick Strong Vs. Kalisto as well as hyping up the quarter-final matches of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament including Mark Andrews Vs. Drew Gulak and Mustafa Ali Vs. Buddy Murphy. Looking forward to seeing how the quarter-final matches for this tournament will go. Well produced video package here.
Mark Andrews Vs. Drew Gulak in a quarter-final match of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament was great. As Mark Andrews was making his entrance to the ring, we see a backstage interview with Drew Gulak by Dasha Fuentes as Dasha Fuentes asked Drew Gulak about his upcoming match against Mark Andrews. Drew Gulak respond by saying that he has something to show Mark Andrews and Dasha Fuentes with a PowerPoint Presentation, but he hasn’t been doing that as of late because he’s focused on winning the WWE Cruiserweight Championship and he won’t let Mark Andrews take his moment as he told Dasha Fuentes to watch as to what he’s going to do with Mark Andrews.
It’s great to see that Drew Gulak still has his PowerPoint Presentation gimmick, but he’s being more aggressive in the ring like his time in the independent circuit and the CWC so that’s great to see. Anyway, let’s talk about the match itself.
Mark Andrews did great in this match as he tried to become WWE Cruiserweight Champion at Wrestlemania 34. His standing corkscrew moonsault on Drew Gulak was beautifully executed. His diving hurricanrana from the ring apron to the floor on Drew Gulak looked like it hurt both men. His counter to Drew Gulak’s vertical suplex into a stunner was well executed. Drew Gulak did great in this match as well as he also plans to become WWE Cruiserweight Champion at Wrestlemania 34. His scoop slam on Mark Andrews on the ropes looked painful as heck. The way he hit Mark Andrews with a clothesline as Mark Andrews tried to hit a diving double axe handle on him looked devastating. The way he countered Mark Andrews’ shooting star press with his knees up was well planned by Drew Gulak. Great work by both men here.
The ending of the match came when Drew Gulak locked Mark Andrews with a dragon sleeper with bodyscissors to make him submit for the win. Man, Drew Gulak’s aggression has made him dangerous as of late as he didn’t let go of Mark Andrews for a while until he finally let go. Either way, Drew Gulak moves on to the semi-finals of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament.
Great match and Drew Gulak moves on to the semi-finals of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament.
The backstage segment between Drake Maverick, Akira Tozawa, and Hideo Itami was good. Drake Maverick was on his phone backstage until Akira Tozawa and Hideo Itami came in as he told them that he put them together because he knows that both men are feeling down for being eliminated in the first-round of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament and knows that they’re extremely talented. Hence why, he put them together as a tag team to bring the best out of each other. Akira Tozawa then told Drake Maverick that if this fails, he’s fired as he smiles and left.
A tag team of Akira Tozawa and Hideo Itami doesn’t sound bad to me. Personally, I would like if they face each other than teaming up, but it gives both men something to do so I’m fine with it. Let’s see how they do as a tag team. Good backstage segment here.
We then see a video tweet from Mustafa Ali as he was seen outside as he talked about Buddy Murphy’s debut on 205 Live and how he was happy that he will be facing him in the quarter-finals of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament. After he met Buddy Murphy in person, he looked into his eyes and know that he’s a dangerous man looking to win. He then said that Buddy Murphy may be The Best Kept Secret, but his best-kept secret is that he’s dangerous as well when he fights for others.
Mustafa Ali sounds like he’s bringing everything to his match against Buddy Murphy which he should. The match between them should be great. Looking forward to it.
Akira Tozawa & Hideo Itami Vs. Nemeth Alexander & Scott James was a good tag team squash match. This was a good showcase for Akira Tozawa and Hideo Itami as a tag team as they’re looking to make a name for themselves.
Even though Nemeth Alexander and Scott James got some offense on Akira Tozawa and Hideo Itami, it was too much for them as Akira Tozawa finished Scott James off with a diving senton for the pin and win for his team. A good win for the debuting tag team of Akira Tozawa and Hideo Itami. Let’s see if they can get any better as a tag team. Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah!
Good tag team squash match and I’m interested to see how Akira Tozawa and Hideo Itami will do as a tag team.
We then see a video package of Roderick Strong working out in the Performance Center as he said that he’s been training his whole life to try to be a part of Wrestlemania and he’s planning to do so this year. Roderick Strong is looking fired up here and we’ll see if he can make it to Wrestlemania 34.
The backstage promo from Cedric Alexander was good. Cedric Alexander talked about how he’s been trying to become WWE Cruiserweight Champion for the past two years, but there’s something always standing in his way. However, he only needs one more match to get that chance and he’s not going to let it slide as he plans to become WWE Cruiserweight Champion at Wrestlemania 34.
Cedric Alexander is looking to become WWE Cruiserweight Champion at Wrestlemania 34, but he needs to beat Roderick Strong to get there so let’s see if he can succeed. Good backstage promo here.
We then see Buddy Murphy and Mustafa Ali warming up backstage as their match is up next. Both men looked focused and they’re ready to go. Let’s see how the match will turn out.
Mustafa Ali Vs. Buddy Murphy in a quarter-final match of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament was excellent. Mark out moment! As Mustafa Ali was making his entrance to the ring, we see a recap of what happened two weeks ago when Mustafa Ali defeated Gentleman Jack Gallagher to move on to the quarter-finals of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament.
As Buddy Murphy was making his entrance to the ring, we see a weigh-in from Buddy Murphy earlier in the week with Drake Maverick as he’s currently 197 lbs. Man, that’s impressive for Buddy Murphy to keep losing weight while still looking in great shape to be a part of the cruiserweight division. Anyway, let’s talk about the match.
Buddy Murphy did excellent in this match as he showed why he is The Best Kept Secret. His clothesline on Mustafa Ali looked like it killed him. His somersault dive to the outside on Mustafa Ali was beautifully executed. Excellent work by Buddy Murphy here.
Mustafa Ali did excellent in this match as well as he wants to become WWE Cruiserweight Champion at Wrestlemania 34. His dropkick on Buddy Murphy looked like it broke Buddy Murphy’s teeth. His 450 splash on the arm of Buddy Murphy looked painful as heck. The rolling through the middle ropes into a sitout facebuster looked like it took off Buddy Murphy’s head. The reverse hurricanrana and the back springboard Tornado DDT on Buddy Murphy looked like it killed him. Excellent work by Mustafa Ali here.
The ending of the match came when Mustafa Ali got Buddy Murphy in a crucifix pin to pin him for the win. A great win for Mustafa Ali as he moves on to the semi-finals of the Cruiserweight Championship Tournament where he will face Drew Gulak which should be an excellent match.
Excellent match and Mustafa Ali moves on to the semi-finals of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament.
Overall, a great show for the sixty-seventh episode of 205 Live. It’s great to see the cruiserweights with more focus and attention here and it’s only going to get better from here. Looking forward to it.
