205 Live 4/3/18 Review: Which is Stronger? Heart or Soul?

205 Live on April 3, 2018, was a great show. 205 Live is a show where the cruiserweights take center stage as they will risk their bodies to entertain us wrestling fans. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package hyping up Lucha House Party Vs. Akira Tozawa & Hideo Itami, Kalisto Vs. Buddy Murphy, and the exclusive interviews from Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali with their match at Wrestlemania 34 for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. This was good as it’s hyping up the content later on the show. Well produced video package here.

Lucha House Party Vs. Akira Tozawa & Hideo Itami was a great tag team match for what it was. After the interaction between the two teams last month, it led to a rematch between the two teams and it was great for what it was.

Lucha House Party continued to show the great chemistry they have as a tag team. The somersault dive from Lince Dorado on Hideo Itami was well executed and the corkscrew plancha from Gran Metalik onto everyone on the outside was beautifully executed. Akira Tozawa & Hideo Itami are continuing to prove their work as a tag team as they are trying to prove that they are the best tag team in the cruiserweight division. The suicide dive from Akira Tozawa on Lince Dorado was well executed and the strikes from Hideo Itami on Lucha House Party looked lethal and vicious. Great work by both teams here.

The ending of the match came when Hideo Itami tried to take off the mask from Gran Metalik, but Lince Dorado broke it up and brawled with Hideo Itami as everyone in the match brawled with each other as the referee called for the bell as the match went into a no contest. I’m okay with this match being a no contest as both teams need to be protected and this was a good way to continue the feud between the two teams so I was fine with this decision.

After the match, both teams continued to brawl as Lucha House Party was getting the upper hand on Akira Tozawa & Hideo Itami until Hideo Itami hit a chop block on Lince Dorado as they got the upper hand on Lucha House Party before referees came in and broke it up.

Hideo Itami continuing to show his heel side from NXT as Akira Tozawa is slowly following him. I’m interested to see how they will do as a heel tag team so we’ll have to wait and see.

Great tag team match and I’m interested to see how this feud between Lucha House Party, Akira Tozawa, and Hideo Itami go from here.

The backstage promo from Drew Gulak was great. Drew Gulak talked about how he was supposed to face Mark Andrews later on the show, but decided to face him next week because he wants Mark Andrews at a hundred percent because he wants no excuses from Mark Andrews when he locks in the dragon sleeper and make him tap out. He then said that he is the best submission wrestler in the cruiserweight division. He then gave a slide that said because I could as he plans to end Mark Andrews next week.

I am loving this new character of Drew Gulak as he’s still keeping his PowerPoint gimmick, but added his independent wrestling character to it which is great. I am looking forward to the match between Mark Andrews and Drew Gulak which should be great. Great backstage promo here.

The video promo from Mark Andrews was good. Mark Andrews talked about how Drew Gulak isn’t the only one trying to prove a point, but he is as well. He then said that when he faces him next week, Drew Gulak will learn that he shouldn’t mess with him as he plans to beat him.

Mark Andrews is looking to get revenge on Drew Gulak next week, but we’ll see if Mark Andrews can get that revenge. Good video promo here.

Jonathan Pierce Vs. Tony Nese was a good squash match. As Tony Nese was making his entrance to the ring, we see a backstage segment earlier in the show as Tony Nese was working out until Drake Maverick came in and told him that he is being given another chance to prove him as he knows that Tony Nese is talented so he wants him to show him that he is The Premier Athlete as Tony Nese smiled as Drake Maverick left. Nice to see Drake Maverick giving some motivation to Tony Nese as he looks to make a name for himself.

Jonathan Pierce managed to get a little offense on Tony Nese, but it wasn’t enough to take Tony Nese as Tony Nese finished off Jonathan Pierce with a running knee to the corner for the pin and win. Tony Nese is looking to rebuild himself and hopefully, he’ll do it after this.

Good squash match and I hope to see a resurgence for Tony Nese in the cruiserweight division.

The backstage segment between Lucha House Party and Buddy Murphy was good. Lucha House Party was seen backstage as Lince Dorado was given medical treatment as Kalisto told Lucha House Party that he’ll be back.

As Kalisto was walking, he bumped into Buddy Murphy told Kalisto that the reason he came to the cruiserweight division was to become WWE Cruiserweight Champion and he happens to be in his way. He then told Kalisto that he’ll make quick work of him so he can go help with his friends as he left with Kalisto looking disgusted.

Kalisto has a lot in his mind at the moment, but he has to focus on Buddy Murphy first. It will be interesting to see how this match will go as it’s up next. Good backstage segment here.

Kalisto Vs. Buddy Murphy was an excellent match. Mark out moment! These two went out there and delivered an excellent match as both men were looking to make their mark in the cruiserweight division.

Kalisto did excellent in this match as he tried to climb back up the ladder of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship picture. His tilt-a-whirl DDT on Buddy Murphy looked like it broke Buddy Murphy’s neck and his hurricanrana driver on Buddy Murphy looked like it took Buddy Murphy’s head off. Excellent work by Kalisto here.

Buddy Murphy did excellent in this match as well as he tried to prove that he should be the next #1 Contender for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. His boot to the face on Kalisto looked like it knocked out Kalisto for a moment. His Irish whip on Kalisto to the corner looked like it broke Kalisto’s back. His running vertical suplex on the ring apron on Kalisto as well as his monkey flip onto the announce table on Kalisto looked like it killed Kalisto. His powerbomb followed by a knee strike on Kalisto was a great combination. Excellent work by Buddy Murphy here.

The ending of the match came when Buddy Murphy hit Kalisto with Murphy’s Law (Pumphandle lift into a Death Valley Driver) for the pin and win. Another amazing win for Buddy Murphy as he looks to prove that he is next #1 Contender for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. Shhh…

Excellent match and I’m waiting to see when Buddy Murphy will get his shot at the WWE Cruiserweight Championship.

The backstage promo from Drake Maverick was great. Drake Maverick congratulated Buddy Murphy for his win, but he’s not here to talk about that as he’s here to talk about Cedric Alexander Vs. Mustafa Ali for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship at Wrestlemania 34. He told that if it wasn’t for the WWE Universe, the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament wouldn’t have been successful. He then said that no matter how you watch Wrestlemania 34, he wants people to watch Cedric Alexander Vs. Mustafa Ali for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship at Wrestlemania 34 because that match will be the match where people will say that they were there live to see that match and it will be their Wrestlemania moment.

This was great as I really felt the emotion that Drake Maverick was saying in this promo and I do believe that this match between Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali could be amazing. Either way, I’m definitely going to look forward to this match even though I’m very disappointed that it won’t be on the main card of Wrestlemania 34, but we’ll talk about that later. Great backstage promo here.

We then see a video package of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship match between Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali at Wrestlemania 34 and it was great. It first highlighted the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament as they also give thoughts from Cedric Alexander, Mustafa Ali, and Drake Maverick about the tournament itself. Mustafa Ali said that Wrestlemania 34 will be the first PPV that he will wrestle on and it will be for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship which is unbelievable to him. Cedric Alexander said that he has worked his entire life to make it to this point as he plans to prove people wrong at Wrestlemania 34.

Mustafa Ali said that Cedric Alexander may be the soul of the cruiserweight division, but the problem is that the soul leaves the body, but what he has that sticks forever is his heart. Cedric Alexander said that Mustafa Ali may have heart, but he doesn’t have brains like he does. Mustafa Ali and Cedric Alexander then said that they will win at Wrestlemania 34 and become the new WWE Cruiserweight Champion.

This was well done as it made me excited for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship match at Wrestlemania 34. These two are going to kill it inside the ring. A shame that they won’t be on the main card as I really believe they should have been on the main card because these two have battled so hard to get to this point and they do deserve a lot better. Maybe the match should happen at NXT New Orleans, but as long as there are going to be tons of people watching at that match live in attendance, I’ll be happy for them as Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali deserve to wrestle in a large show and I hope they get one in the kickoff of Wrestlemania 34. It’s going to be awesome. Well produced video package to end the show.

Overall, a great show for the seventy-first episode of 205 Live. It’s great to see the cruiserweights with more focus and attention here and it’s only going to get better from here. Looking forward to it.
