Lucha Underground 5/25/16 Review: The Dare End Slayers

Hello everyone, this is Vaude Influence.

Since I missed one segment of Lucha Underground, I decided to do both reviews of Lucha Underground and NXT from last week.

Hope you enjoy it. Anyway, let’s get on with it.

Lucha Underground on May 25, 2016 was a good show that is building feuds and storylines for the future as well as building up new characters which is good. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a recap of what happened between Captain Vasquez, Cortez Castro, Joey Ryan, Dario Cueto, The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs, The Ultimate Flight Crew, Cage, Chavo Guerrero and Johnny Mundo earlier in the season of Lucha Underground Season 2. This is a good way to remind people about what happened during that time in case they missed it or forgot about it as this week, the people from the recap appeared on the show. Well done and well produced.

The video segment between Pentagon Jr. and Vampiro was great. Pentagon Jr. begins to walk again as he tries to tell Vampiro that he’s ready to return to action which leads to Vampiro stopping him from doing so. Pentagon Jr. claims that he is not afraid of anything and Vampiro tells him that he can go to the temple and face the monster, but he is not ready yet.

Yes! Pentagon Jr. is back on his feet and is ready to return to the temple! However, Vampiro warning Pentagon Jr. that he’s not ready for Matanza scares me a bit as I don’t want Pentagon Jr. to go away again. Despite that, I want to see Pentagon Jr. back to the temple so we can get Matanza Vs. Pentagon Jr. in the future. Cero Miedo! Great video segment here.

Mascarita Sagrada Vs. Joey Ryan was a fun squash match. Again, Lucha Underground, I told you this many times before and I will say it again, give entrances to your wrestlers please! Thank you.

Before the match, Famous B once again introduces Mascarita Sagrada because Mascarita Sagrada is now officially famous! So what are you waiting for?! Call 423-GET-FAME! It’s 423-GET-FAME! Call now so you can be famous!

The match was what it was. A fun squash match that showcase Joey Ryan and Mascarita Sagrada in the ring. Joey Ryan being that sleazy heel that he is and Mascarita Sagrada being underdog babyface that he is with his size.

Joey Ryan gets the win on Mascarita Sagrada ith the Tornado DDT as Famous B checks on him. Well it seems like Mascarita Sagarada isn’t making Famous B happy at all. Come on Mascarita Sagrada, make Famous B happy god dang it! Also, very interested to see where Joey Ryan goes from here as he might continue his case with Dario Cueto, but we’ll see as times goes on.

Fun squash match and interested to see where Mascarita Sagrada and Joey Ryan go from here.

The vignette for Taya was great. It basically shows how strong and beautiful Taya is as she can kill luchadores and she is the perfect woman for anyone.

This is great as it shows who Taya is and what her character is in Lucha Underground. I think it would be better if they show this vignette before Taya debuted a few months ago, but at least they gave one. Too late maybe, but it was well produced and I expect some great things in Taya in Lucha Underground very soon. Great vignette here.

The video segment between King Cuerno and Mil Muertes was great. King Cuerno is in his huntsman hideaway as he talks about Mil Muertes. Mil Muertes said that he is the king, but King Cuerno thinks that he is the king of the jungle. We then see Mil Muertes in a glass coffin being displayed as a trophy for King Cuerno as the video segment ended.

Oh wow, King Cuerno is actually using Mil Muertes as a trophy of his collection. Man, that is awesome. However, once Mil Muertes wakes up, it won’t be good for King Cuerno at all once death returns. Either way, I’m very intrigued by this feud and I can’t wait to see what’s next for this feud between King Cuerno and Mil Muertes. Great video segment here.

Chavo Guerrero Vs. Cage for the Gift of the Gods Championship was a good match. Oh man, poor Chavo Guerrero, he was going to get destroyed by Cage here and I was right, he got destroyed by Cage here.

Chavo Guerrero did manage to get some good offense in this match against Cage, but the power and strength of Cage was too much for Chavo Guerrero as Cage finished off Chavo Guerrero with the vertical suplex piledriver for the pin and winning the Gift of the Gods Championship! Mark out moment! Very happy to see Cage win his first title in Lucha Underground. Well deserved. He’s not a man, he’s a machine!

After the match, Cage got on the mic and called out Matanza as he’s cashing in his Gift of the Gods Championship next week. Holy shoot! Cage is already going after the Lucha Undergroud Champion Matanza! Wow! Didn’t expect him to cash in so soon, but a match between Matanza and Cage for the Lucha Underground Championship should be amazing. Though, this type of match should be saved for Ultima Lucha II, but it should be great regardless. Looking forward to that match next week.

Good match and good post-match where Matanza Vs. Cage next week for the Lucha Underground Championship should be very brutal.

The backstage segment with Taya, The Dare End Slayers, and Fenix was good. Taya is with Jack Evans and PJ Black as Johnny Mundo has a surprise for them. He beat the living shoot out of Fenix and now he’s going to be their partner for their trios match coming up next. The Dare End Slayers celebrate with air guitars.

Wow Johnny Mundo, how dare you knock out Fenix you son of a beach! However, I do like this trio of Johnny Mundo, Jack Evans, and PJ Black as I think they make a perfect trio. As of now, they’ll be known to me as The Dare End Slayers. Can’t wait for the trios match coming up next, it should be great. Good backstage segment here.

The backstage segment between Cortez Castro, Joey Ryan, and Mr. Cisco was good. Cortez Castro finds Joey Ryan in Joey Ryan’s office as Joey Ryan is ruffling through Dario Cueto’s deck. Cortez Castro thinks that this isn’t a good idea, but Joey Ryan needs evidence. Joey Ryan then finds a lot of cash and steals some for himself in one of Dario Cueto’s drawers. Mr. Cisco then arrives into the office and is pissed that Cortez Castro and Joey Ryan didn’t invite him. He says he’s going to tell Dario Cueto, but Cortez Castro arrests him as Joey Ryan pulls out his gun to end the video segment.

Dang! You don’t want to mess with Joey Ryan and Cortez Castro or they might shoot you to death. Cops are scary. In all seriousness, it’s very cool to see different elements that you don’t normally see in wrestling such as death, magic, guns, and so forth. It makes Lucha Underground very different from everything else which makes it great as it stands out a lot and it was very entertaining. I just love elements like these which makes Lucha Underground great in my opinion.

Also, it seems like Mr. Cisco is going to get punished for interfering with Cortez Castro’s and Joey Ryan’s plan. Dang it Mr. Cisco! You should have join them dang it! Either way, I’m really intrigued with this storyline right now and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Good backstage segment here.

The Ultimate Flight Crew Vs. The Dare End Slayers for the Lucha Underground Trios Championship was a great match. Originally, it was supposed to be The Ultimate Flight Crew Vs. Fenix, Jack Evans, and PJ Black for the Lucha Underground Trios Championships since those two trios were in the finals of the Lucha Underground Trios Championship Tournament. However, with Fenix being taken out by Johnny Mundo, Johnny Mundo takes Fenix’s place in the match. Taya introduces Johnny Mundo as Jack Evans’ and PJ Black’s partner as we are set for trios championship match.

Like I said, this was a great trios match where everyone in this match managed to get showcase pretty well. The tag team and trio moves from all the two trios were also very impressive as well especially Dragon Azteca Jr. and Prince Puma.

It looked like everything was going to The Ultimate Flight Crew’s favor as Prince Puma hits the 630 Senton. However, that victory was taken away as Johnny Mundo pulls the referee out of the ring as everything broke down when the referee was down.

The Dare End Slayers were using heel tactics such as low blows, kicks to the nuts, and using Taya to help them try to gain the victory. At one point, PJ Black hit a brainbuster on Prince Puma and then Johnny Mundo hit the End of the World on Prince Puma, but yet, Prince Puma still managed to kicked out. Wow! Prince Puma has a lot of heart. This is why he is considered to be the face of Lucha Underground. Incredible.

Prince Puma then tagged in Dragon Azteca Jr. to be in the match and while Taya was distracting the referee, Jack Evans came in and delivered a chair shot to Dragon Azteca Jr. as Johnny Mundo covered him to win the Lucha Underground Trios Championships! Mark out moment!

So now, The Dare End Slayers are the new Lucha Underground Trios Champions. I think they’re going to do great as trios champions and I’m very happy that Johnny Mundo, Jack Evans, and PJ Black managed to win gold in Lucha Underground. I think they’re going to go far as a trio so having them as champions is great.

As for The Ultimate Flight Crew, I would love them to remain as a trio because Lucha Underground needs more trios at the moment. However, I also don’t mind having them as single stars so whatever Lucha Underground does, I’ll be open to it. I’m interested to see where both trios go from here on out.

Great trios match and interested to see where both The Dare End Slayers and The Ultimate Flight Crew go from here.

Overall, good show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. So many storylines and feuds here and I love it! Next week, we’re going to have Matanza Vs. Cage for the Lucha Underground Championship which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to that. If you haven’t already, please check out Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
