NXT 6/27/18 Review: UK Is Living In The Undisputed Era

NXT on June 27, 2018, was a good show that is building up characters, storylines, and feuds in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with an in-ring promo segment between Aleister Black and Tommaso Ciampa and it was good. Aleister Black came out to the ring and talked about how dealing with adversity is what defines a champion and he feels like that he accomplished when Lars Sullivan became that adversity and he made Lars Sullivan fade to black.

As Aleister Black was about to continue, Tommaso Ciampa came out on stage and told Aleister Black that it’s about time that he stands face-to-face with him as he’s not buying what Aleister Black is saying. He told Aleister Black that the man makes the title, but the title made Aleister Black. He then told Aleister Black that he barely survived against Lars Sullivan while he beat Johnny Gargano with his hands tied behind his back.

Tommaso Ciampa then said that he wants a shot at the NXT Championship. Aleister Black then said that if William Regal wants it, the match will happen before he can say more, Tommaso Ciampa interrupted him and told him that not only he will lose the NXT Championship when he faces him, but only his mystique too.

Tommaso Ciampa then did Aleister Black’s pose on the stage as he said to Aleister Black that he will fade to black. Aleister Black got pissed as he left the ring and tried to go after Tommaso Ciampa, but Tommaso Ciampa got up and retreated while waving at him.

It seems like we got ourselves the next NXT Championship match and a match between Aleister Black and Tommaso Ciampa for the NXT Championship is something that I’m down for. Looking forward to this match when it happens.

Good in-ring promo segment here as I’m looking forward to Aleister Black Vs. Tommaso Ciampa for the NXT Championship when it happens.

We then get an announcement from Mauro Ranallo, Nigel McGuinness, and Percy Watson that Lars Sullivan suffered a broken jaw in his match against Tommaso Ciampa and will be out of action for the time being. A shame that Lars Sullivan got injured, but hopefully, he’ll recover soon and we’ll see him back in action.

The interview with Vanessa Borne outside of Full Sail University was good. Vanessa Borne talked about how she’s going to make a huge statement in the NXT Women’s division and then she asked the reporters on why Kairi Sane dressed up as a pirate as she thinks it’s silly and she doesn’t know why people admire her. She then said that people should adore her, Vanessa Borne, as she should be the one on T-shirts and posters and when she sees Kairi Sane, she’ll make a fool out of her and people will know who Vanessa Borne is as she left.

Vanessa Borne is looking to make a name for herself against Kairi Sane, but I don’t know if she can beat Kairi Sane if she goes up against her, but only time will tell. Good interview here.

Max Humberto Vs. Kona Reeves was a good squash match. Kona Reeves continues to show his character in the ring and got to showcase more of his in-ring skills too.

Max Humberto got a little bit of offense on Kona Reeves, but it wasn’t enough as Kona Reeves took out Max Humberto with the Hawaiian Drop (Modified Samoan Drop) for the pin and win. Another win for Kona Reeves as he looks to climb up the ranks in NXT. The Finest!

Good squash match and I’m interested to see what’s next for Kona Reeves in NXT.

We then get a recap of what happened at Day 2 of the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament when Moustache Mountain defeated Undisputed Era to become the new NXT Tag Team Champions as they will be in action later on the show. If you haven’t already, please check out the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament as they were great shows for both nights so go check it out. As for Moustache Mountain being NXT Tag Team Champions, happy for them as I can’t wait to see more of them in NXT.

Candice LeRae Vs. Lacey Evans was a good women’s match. This was a good women’s match where both women looked good in the process.

Lacey Evans did well in this match as she tried to show that she’s a true lady in NXT. The way she was working on Candice LeRae’s arm was good in-ring psychology as the way she swung Candice LeRae’s arm to the ring post looked painful as heck. Candice LeRae did well in this match too as she tried to show the world why she is one of the best women’s wrestlers in the world today. Her diving reverse STO and inverted double underhook facebuster on Lacey Evans were well executed. Good work by both women here.

The ending of the match came when Candice LeRae hit Lacey Evans with a middle rope springboard moonsault on Lacey Evans for the pin and win. A good win for Candice LeRae as she’s looking to make a name for herself in the NXT Women’s division.

Good women’s match and I can’t wait to see what’s next for Candice LeRae and Lacey Evans in NXT.

The backstage interview with Johnny Gargano by Cathy Kelley was great. Johnny Gargano talked about how Candice LeRae is his favorite wrestler ever and he’s happy for her, but he kept on watching the footage on what happened at NXT Chicago II when Tommaso Ciampa defeated him. The moment he saw Tommaso Ciampa taking off his wedding ring, spit on it, and threw it in the crowd by beating him, he knew that this feud isn’t over between the two of them.

Johnny Gargano then ended up saying that he wants to face Tommaso Ciampa one more time and he doesn’t care where or when the match happens because this feud will end once Tommaso Ciampa is done.

Man, Johnny Gargano is showing a new side of him and it’s kind of freaky. We’ll see how he changed his character as time goes on. Great backstage interview here.

The segment between Heavy Machinery at their house was good. Heavy Machinery was at their house having a barbecuing as Otis Dozovic said that he’s hungry and Tucker Knight said he doesn’t like cheaters and what he does with cheaters, Otis Dozovic said he eat them up as they challenged them to a match next week. Tucker Knight then finally said that there is no fun and games when they come after them.

Heavy Machinery is looking to get revenge on The Mighty and they’ll probably get it next week. Should be a fun tag team match next week. Good segment here.

We then see a tweet from William Regal as he tweeted that Johnny Gargano needs to move on from Tommaso Ciampa and he’ll be facing EC3 next week. Even William Regal thinks that Johnny Gargano should move on, interesting. Johnny Gargano Vs. EC3 should be a great match next week. Looking forward to it.

The backstage interview with Candice LeRae by Cathy Kelley after her match with Lacey Evans was good. Candice LeRae talked about how she made the mistake of letting Johnny Gargano and his feud with Tommaso Ciampa distract her from her own career and her future. Despite worrying about Johnny Gargano, she was to worry about herself now as Johnny Gargano’s motivation to achieve something inspired her to chase after the NXT Women’s Championship and she plans on taking it.

Candice LeRae has her eyes set on the NXT Women’s Championship and I can definitely see her going after the NXT Women’s Championship in the near future. Good backstage interview here.

Moustache Mountain Vs. Dave Dixon & Carl Axelrod never happened as once Dave Dixon & Carl Axelrod came out on stage, Undisputed Era attacked them from behind and beat them down as they threw them off the stage.

Undisputed Era then began to cut a promo as Kyle O’Reilly said what happened at the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament was a fluke and that they only won because they were in their home country and they’re nothing, but phonies. Roderick Strong then said that none of their UK buddies are here to help them as they plan to get their titles back. Adam Cole then said that once they’re done with them, Moustache Mountain will get back home to the UK without any gold because this is their era and they’re just living in it.

As Undisputed Era surrounded the ring, Ricochet came out to even the odds as a six-man tag team match between Ricochet & Moustache Mountain Vs. Undisputed Era next. Interesting that Ricochet came out to help Moustache Mountain so that was nice of him. The feud between Moustache Mountain and Undisputed Era continued here which is great to see. Anyway, let’s talk about the match!

Ricochet & Moustache Mountain Vs. Undisputed Era was an excellent six-man tag team match. Mark out moment! These two men went out there and delivered a fun match where neither man looked weak and they looked strong in the process.

Ricochet & Moustache Mountain did excellent in this match as they tried to get the upper hand on Undisputed Era. The modified Michinoku Driver II by Trent Seven on Kyle O’Reilly was impressive. The rolling wheel kick by Tyler Bate on Roderick Strong was well executed. The 630 senton from Ricochet on Adam Cole was beautifully executed and I thought the match was over until Kyle O’Reilly pulled Adam Cole out of the ring to break the pin. That was very close. Ricochet hit a nice suicide dive on Kyle O’Reilly to the outside. Excellent work by Ricochet & Moustache Mountain here.

Undisputed Era did excellent in this match too as they tried to take down Ricochet & Moustache Mountain. The running high knee strike to the corner by Roderick Strong followed by the fireman’s carry dropped on to a knee by Adam Cole followed by the soccer kick by Kyle O’Reilly on Trent Seven was an awesome combination. The scissors stomp followed by an elbow smash by Kyle O’Reilly on Tyler Bate was a nice combination. Excellent work by Undisputed Era here.

The ending of the match came when Roderick Strong hit Ricochet with a rolling vertical suplex on the ring apron as he rolled Ricochet in the ring and Adam Cole pin him for the win for his team. A great win for Undisputed Era and because of this, I expect Adam Cole Vs. Ricochet for the NXT North American Championship and Moustache Mountain Vs. Undisputed Era for the NXT Tag Team Championships at NXT Brooklyn IV, but only time will tell.

Excellent six-man tag team match and I can’t wait to see what’s next for Ricochet, Moustache Mountain, and Undisputed Era in NXT.

Overall, a good show that is building up characters, storylines, and feuds in the near future. Next week, we will have Johnny Gargano Vs. EC3 which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
