205 Live on July 3, 2018, was a great show. 205 Live is a show where the cruiserweights take center stage as they will risk their bodies to entertain us wrestling fans. Let’s break it down:
We start off the show with a video package with Drake Maverick talking about next week where it will be Cedric Alexander Vs. Hideo Itami for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship and on this show, it will be Mustafa Ali Vs. Buddy Murphy in a No Disqualification match and TJP Vs. An opponent of Drake Maverick’s choosing. Looking forward to the matches and next week’s championship match as they should be great. Well produced video package here.
Noam Dar Vs. TJP was a great squash match. As TJP was making his entrance to the ring, he cut a promo on how Drake Maverick is finally giving what he wants, but the problem is that the match is not in the main event nor it’s for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. He then started to talk trash about Omaha, Nebraska before finally giving in what Drake Maverick has to say as he’s been waiting for competition for a while and now he gets it as he waited for his opponent.
His opponent came out and it turned out to be Noam Dar! Mark out moment! Great to see Noam Dar back in the cruiserweight division as he just made his return to the ring at the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament so it’s great to see him back. Anyway, back to the match itself.
The ending of the match came when Noam Dar hit TJP with a running enzuiguri for the pin and win. Wow, Noam Dar just defeated TJP within two minutes. What a return for Noam Dar and TJP wanted competition and he got it, just not what he expected and he paid the price for it.
Great squash match as I’m interested to see what’s next for Noam Dar and TJP in the cruiserweight division.
We then get a recap of the feud between Mustafa Ali and Buddy Murphy as they will face each other in a No Disqualification match later on the show. This is good as it’s hyping up the main event and it ties into the next segment which I will talk about next.
The backstage promo from Buddy Murphy was good. Buddy Murphy talked about how he’s the juggernaut of the cruiserweight division and he could have been WWE Cruiserweight Champion if it weren’t for Mustafa Ali. He then said that since the match between him and Mustafa Ali is a No Disqualification, that means he could do whatever he wants with Mustafa Ali and that includes putting him in a hospital bed. Once he’s done with him, he plans to become the next WWE Cruiserweight Champion.
Buddy Murphy is looking to end Mustafa Ali and putting himself back in the WWE Cruiserweight Championship picture, but Mustafa Ali is no slouch and Buddy Murphy better be ready for it. Good backstage promo here.
The backstage interview with TJP by Dasha Fuentes was great. TJP was walking backstage looking very disappointed as Dasha Fuentes came up to him and asked him about his loss, but TJP just walked away as he exited the building being pissed.
TJP is so frustrated that he lost that he didn’t even say anything and he has every right to do so. It will be interesting to see where the character of TJP will go from here. Great backstage interview here.
Akira Tozawa Vs. Jason Strife was a good squash match. As the match was about to start, Lio Rush came out and was watching the match at ringside. Interesting that Lio Rush has an interest in this match or in particular, Akira Tozawa, but we’ll see where this goes. Anyway, back to the match itself.
Jason Strife did manage to get some offense in this match, but Akira Tozawa was too much for him as he finished Jason Strife off with a diving senton for the pin and win. Another win for Akira Tozawa as he looks to get back on time of the cruiserweight division.
After the match, as Akira Tozawa was celebrating in the ring, Lio Rush cut a promo on the announce table as he told Akira Tozawa that he’s talented, but ever since he lost the WWE Cruiserweight Championship, he hasn’t done anything much since then. He then said that while Akira Tozawa is waiting for opportunities, Lio Rush will make his way quicker as he’s just too good to wait. He then told Akira Tozawa that when he faces him in the ring, he will be against up The Man of the Hour and he will feel the rush as Akira Tozawa left the ring while smiling at Lio Rush.
Lio Rush is calling the shots on Akira Tozawa which I find very interesting. A feud between Akira Tozawa and Lio Rush could be good for both men so we’ll see how it turns out.
Good squash match and I’m looking forward to the feud between Akira Tozawa and Lio Rush in the cruiserweight division.
The backstage promo from Mustafa Ali was good. Mustafa Ali talked about how Buddy Murphy is a dangerous man and he admits that. He then mentioned that despite him being a dangerous man, he’s up for danger as he’s willing to take risks to get big rewards. He then said that he will prove that Buddy Murphy is not a juggernaut, but a human like everyone else.
Just like with Buddy Murphy earlier in the show, Mustafa Ali is looking to make a name for himself in this match. We’ll see who comes out on top in this match. Good backstage promo here.
The video promo from Cedric Alexander was good. Cedric Alexander talked about how Hideo Itami has made a name for himself in the past before coming to WWE to get a championship shot while Cedric Alexander had to earn everything to get what he deserves. He then said that next week, he will show Hideo Itami why he deserved to be WWE Cruiserweight Champion.
Cedric Alexander is looking to beat Hideo Itami next week when he puts his WWE Cruiserweight Championship on the line. We’ll see if Cedric Alexander can retain over Hideo Itami next week. Good video promo here.
Mustafa Ali Vs. Buddy Murphy in a No Disqualification match was excellent. Mark out moment! These two men went out there and tore the house down as they gave everything they have in order to get the win and it was awesome.
Buddy Murphy did excellent in this match as he tried to put Mustafa Ali in a hospital bed. The way he tossed Mustafa Ali down from the barricade to the steel ramp looked painful as heck. His snap suplex on Mustafa Ali on the steel ramp looked like it destroyed Mustafa Ali’s back. His Irish whip followed by a back body drop on Mustafa Ali looked painful for Mustafa Ali.
Mustafa Ali did excellent in this match as well as he tried to show that Buddy Murphy is just another human being. His diving crossbody from the barricade to the crowd on Buddy Murphy was beautifully executed. His rolling thunder into a sitout facebuster on Buddy Murphy who was on the middle rope looked like it killed Buddy Murphy.
There were several spots in this match that were insane. There was a spot where Buddy Murphy hit a sliding baseball dropkick on the steel steps to Mustafa Ali followed by a step-up on the steel steps to perform a somersault dive on Mustafa Ali to the outside which was executed perfectly. The way Buddy Murphy tossed Mustafa Ali to the steel steps looked like it murdered Mustafa Ali.
There was another point in the match where Buddy Murphy pulled Mustafa Ali’s head between his legs on the middle rope as he hit a superkick followed by a powerbomb and finished the combo with a sitout powerbomb, but Mustafa Ali managed to kick out. Wow, didn’t Mustafa Ali to kick out of that combination. That was impressive. The superplex from Mustafa Ali on top of the steel steps to the ring on Buddy Murphy was very innovative.
There was an awesome spot where Mustafa Ali jumped over the announce table on to the barricade and hit Buddy Murphy with a moonsault side slam on top of the announce table! Mark out moment! That was sick and I was surprised that the table didn’t break. That was incredible! There was another point in the match where I thought it was over as Buddy Murphy hit a devastating knee strike on Mustafa Ali to the face, but Mustafa Ali managed to kick out. Man, what heart from Mustafa Ali. Amazing. Excellent work by both men here.
The ending of the match came when Mustafa Ali hit Buddy Murphy with a Tilt-a-whirl DDT from the steel steps to the ring for the pin and win. Wow, just wow. What a match between both men and what a win for Mustafa Ali. Incredible. After this match, I expect Mustafa Ali to be the next #1 Contender for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. Guaranteed.
Excellent No Disqualification match and props to both men for delivering.
Overall, a great show for the eighty-fourth episode of 205 Live. It’s great to see the cruiserweights with more focus and attention here and it’s only going to get better from here. Looking forward to it.
Mark Out Moments: 3
