Lucha Underground on July 18, 2018, was a good show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a recap of what happened on Season 4 of Lucha Underground with Dragon Azteca Jr., King Cuerno, Ivelisse, The Mack, Son of Havoc, Worldwide Underground, Reptile Tribe, Cage, Pentagon Dark, and Mil Muertes. This is good as it shows what happened in Lucha Underground in case people missed it or forgot about it so that’s good. Well produced video package here.

Dezmond X Vs. Paul London for an Aztec medallion was a good match. Dezmond X has made his debut in Lucha Underground! Mark out moment! Dezmond X is also known as Dezmond Xavier who has competed in Impact, CZW, and PWG so seeing him is great as he fits well in the Lucha Underground environment.

Paul London did well in this match as he tried to win an Aztec medallion. His jumping double knee press on Dezmond X looked devastating. Dezmond X did well in this match as he tried to win an Aztec medallion. His moonsault to Rabbit Tribe on the outside was beautifully executed. His no hands Frankensteiner and his double backflip kick on Paul London were well executed. Good work by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Dezmond X rolled up Paul London out of nowhere for the pin and to win an Aztec medallion. What a win for Dezmond X as he’s the last man to be in the Lucha Underground Gift of the Gods Championship match.

Good match and Dezmond X is now added to the Lucha Underground Gift of the Gods Championship match.

The Lucha Underground Gift of the Gods Championship Ceremony with Dragon Azteca Jr., King Cuerno, Ivelisse, The Mack, Son of Havoc, Mil Muertes, and Dezmond X by Antonio Cueto was good. Antonio Cueto came out with the Lucha Underground Gift of the Gods Championship as he congratulated Dezmond X on his victory and said that the talent in Lucha Underground is main event caliber especially in the Lucha Underground Gift of the Gods Championship match. He then said that the championship match will be next week and it’s going to be epic.

Antonio Cueto then introduced Dragon Azteca Jr., King Cuerno, Ivelisse, The Mack, Son of Havoc, Mil Muertes, and Dezmond X to the ring as they placed their Aztec medallions on the Lucha Underground Gift of the Gods Championship. He then said that he has a surprise for them as he said that seven is an unlucky number where next week, only six competitors will compete in the Lucha Underground Gift of the Gods Championship match as the person who will be out will be determined in a battle royal where the winner of that match gets to choose who is out of the match as the match started right afterward.

Dang, Antonio Cueto continues to pull some interesting moves and decisions in Lucha Underground. Let’s see who’s out of the Lucha Underground Gift of the Gods Championship match. Good Lucha Underground Gift of the Gods Championship Ceremony here.

The Special Gift of The Gods Battle Royal was average. The match was gone by too quick as there wasn’t much action going on so I can’t really talk much about the match, but I will talk about the eliminations so let’s get to that.

The first four eliminations came when Mil Muertes threw King Cuerno out of the ring, tossed Ivelisse out of the ring as she landed on King Cuerno, tossed Dezmond X out of the ring, and threw Dragon Azteca Jr. out of the ring. Dang, Mil Muertes got the most eliminations in this match.

The fifth elimination came when The Mack and Son of Havoc threw Mil Muertes over the ring. Nice teamwork from two-thirds of the Lucha Underground Trios Champions there as they’re showing teamwork and unity.

The ending of the match came when The Mack and Son of Havoc were about to go at it, but Son of Havoc told The Mack that it’s up to him as he hit a somersault dive on Dragon Azteca Jr., Ivelisse, and Dezmond X to the outside to eliminate himself as The Mack is the winner. Interesting that Son of Havoc did that, but he wants to gain The Mack’s trust so it does kind of make sense. Either way, The Mack gets to choose who to eliminate in the Lucha Underground Gift of the Gods Championship match.

After the match, Antonio Cueto asked The Mack on who he’s going to eliminate in the Lucha Underground Gift of the Gods Championship match as The Mack said that he’s not afraid of any man expect Mil Muertes as he eliminated Mil Muertes out of the match. Catrina then left Mil Muertes as Mil Muertes hit a double clothesline on Dragon Azteca Jr. and King Cuerno, followed by a throw on Ivelisse, a jab on Son of Havoc, and a chokeslam on Dezmond X to the floor.

Well, The Mack has every right to choose to eliminate Mil Muertes from the match, but this only angered Mil Muertes as he might go after The Mack in the future. Either way, the Lucha Underground Gift of the Gods Championship match is set for next week and it should be great.

Average Special Gift of The Gods Battle Royal as I’m looking forward to the Lucha Underground Gift of the Gods Championship match next week.

Vibora Vs. Johnny Mundo was an excellent match. Mark out moment! Vibora was accompanied by Kobra Moon while Johnny Mundo was accompanied by Taya in this match and despite the match being overbooked, this match was fun to watch as both men looked excellent.

Johnny Mundo did excellent in this match as he tried to take down a member of Reptile Tribe. His reverse hurricanrana and hurricanrana on Vibora were well executed. His corkscrew dive on Kobra Moon to the outside was impressive.

Vibora did excellent in this match as well as he tried to get a victory for Kobra Moon. His Argentine backbreaker rack dropped into a DDT on Johnny Mundo was well executed. His powerbomb, chokeslam, and standing moonsault combination on Johnny Mundo were well done. His middle-rope moonsault to the outside on Johnny Mundo and Ricky Mundo was beautifully executed.

There were several points in the match where I thought it was over as it could have gone to either man in this match. Taya distracted the referee as PJ Black came out and hit Vibora with a steel chair as Johnny Mundo followed up with End of the World (Split-legged corkscrew moonsault) on Vibora, but Vibora managed to kick out. Wow, didn’t see that coming as I thought the match was over there which led to Drago and Daga coming out to chase Taya and PJ Black to the back. Excellent work by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Vibora hit Johnny Mundo with a chokeslam as Johnny Mundo was on the top rope for the pin and win. A huge win for Vibora as he got a victory over the former Lucha Underground Champion Johnny Mundo.

After the match, Taya and PJ Black came back in and attacked Vibora and Kobra Moon with steel chairs which led to Drago and Daga coming out as well as Ricky Mundo where the two factions brawled with each other in the ring.

The war between Reptile Tribe and Worldwide Underground is still on. Despite it being heels against heels, this feud has been a lot of fun so I would like to see this feud continue for a while.

Excellent match and good post-match as I’m looking forward to the continuation of this feud between Reptile Tribe and Worldwide Underground.

The backstage segment between XO Lishus, Jack Evans, and Ricky Mundo was good. XO Lishus was working out backstage as Jack Evans looked on as Jack Evans looked disgusted and said that no one embarrasses him in the ring. Ricky Mundo then asked Jack Evans on what he’s doing as Jack Evans asked Ricky Mundo the same thing. Ricky Mundo then told Jack Evans that he could use his help back there against Reptile Tribe as Jack Evans told him that he doesn’t like snakes as Johnny Mundo is fine with him being in the back as he told Ricky Mundo to back off along with his doll as he left.

The doll then said that she doesn’t like Jack Evans as Ricky Mundo agreed with her. The doll then told Ricky Mundo that he should do to Jack Evans what he did to Angelico as Ricky Mundo said he couldn’t as Johnny Mundo would get mad at him. The doll then told Ricky Mundo who’s in charge of his life whether it be Johnny Mundo or him as Ricky Mundo thought about it.

So it seems like the doll was responsible for the disappearance of Angelico. I guess it might happen with Jack Evans too if Ricky Mundo goes along with what the doll told him. It will be interesting to see where this storyline will go. Good backstage segment here.

Pentagon Dark Vs. Cage for the Lucha Underground Championship was a great match. I was expecting a lot more of this match and while it was great, I felt like it could have been better as the match felt too short in my opinion.

Cage did great in this match as he tried to become Lucha Underground Champion. His deadlift suplex on Pentagon Dark was well executed. His sitout electric chair slam on Pentagon Dark looked devastating. Pentagon Dark did great in this match too as he tried to retain the Lucha Underground Championship. His double knee backbreaker followed by a double knee facebreaker on Cage was a good combination. His diving front flip piledriver and front flip piledriver on Cage looked devastating. Great work by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Pentagon Dark hit Cage with a package piledriver for the pin and win. A good win for Pentagon Dark as he retained the Lucha Underground Championship.

After the match, Pentagon Dark hit Cage with the Lucha Underground Championship and was about to break Cage’s arm, but Cage fought back and hit Pentagon Dark with a fireman’s carry facebuster on the Lucha Underground Championship as he told Pentagon Dark that he can’t break his arm as he’s not a man, he’s a machine.

Pentagon Dark may have gotten the win here, but Cage stood out on top as the feud between Pentagon Dark and Cage for the Lucha Underground will look like it will continue which is fine by me as I think these two can have a great feud for the Lucha Underground Championship. He’s not a man, he’s a machine!

Great match and good post-match as I’m looking forward to the potential rematch between Pentagon Dark and Cage for the Lucha Underground Championship.

Overall, a good show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. So many storylines and feuds here and I love it! Next week, we’re going to have Dragon Azteca Jr. Vs. King Cuerno Vs. Ivelisse Vs. The Mack Vs. Son of Havoc Vs. Dezmond X for the Lucha Underground Gift of the Gods Championship which should be great, looking forward to that. If you haven’t already, please check out Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
