NXT The End Review: The End… of The Beginning

NXT The End on June 8 was a great show. Now do I think that this NXT live special is the best one out of all of the NXT live specials? In my personal opinion, I think that answer is no as I still think NXT Dallas is the best NXT live special by far. However, this show was still great in its own right as it had excellent matches, great moments, and great surprises throughout the whole show. Let’s break this down:

The pre-show was pretty good as always as we have Renee Young, Lita, and Corey Graves doing the pre-show panel. These three have good chemistry with each other and all three of them did very well for analyzing and predicting on the matches later on giving the matches history and purpose on why it’s happening which is great to see. The video packages of the matches were great to see as well as they made me hyped up for the show later on the show.

The way Cathy Kelley and Mike Rome interacted with the fans outside of Full Sail University was nice to see. Mike Rome is a new interviewer for NXT and he’s doing a good job so far as he seems very energetic and very excited to be there which I don’t blame him since I would have done the same too. Cathy Kelley was doing her job as always as I think she’s doing a good job with being the backstage interviewer for NXT so keep it up Cathy.

Also, the interview with The Revival by Andrea D’Marco was good as The Revival are looking to reclaim their NXT Tag Team Championships. The way Dash Wilder was pretending to cry was hilarious as it seems like they weren’t taking this seriously. However, once they get in that ring, they will dominate and that’s what I think will happen between American Alpha Vs. The Revival later on the show. Good backstage interview here.

Pretty good pre-show to hype the matches for NXT The End. Here’s the full pre-show for you guys to watch. Now, let’s get onto the main card!

We start off the show with a video package going through the history of NXT since it was re-branded in 2012 to this event. They also say that the beginning will end and that the end will begin.

It’s great to see the history of NXT as I have been watching the re-branded NXT since day one so seeing that makes me happy. It seems like NXT may go into a new direction going forward. I don’t know if it’s a good thing or not, but I am excited about it and I can’t wait to see what happens. Great video package to start off the show.

Andrade “Cien” Almas Vs. Tye Dillinger was a good match. Andrade “Cien” Almas made his NXT debut! Mark out moment!

At first, when I saw Andrade “Cien” Almas wear that top feather hat with the overalls, I thought to myself, “Oh no! They have ruined Andrade “Cien” Almas!”. However, all of that changed when that bell rang.

Andrade “Cien” Almas was very impressive here in this match and I’m glad that NXT let Andrade “Cien” Almas be himself with his work in CMLL. The move-set that he does in the ring in this match and the pose he does in the middle rope was classic La Sombra right there and that made me happy.

However, Andrade “Cien” Almas wasn’t the only one that was impressive in this match, but Tye Dillinger was impressive in this match as well. I love the way that Tye Dillinger was trying to slow down and try to take down Andrade “Cien” Almas at every point in the match with the tilt-a-whirl backbreaker and the superkick. That was awesome.

In the end, Andrade “Cien” Almas gets the win on Tye Dillinger with the running double knee smash to the corner when Tye Dillinger was down to get the pin and win. Like how Andrade “Cien” Almas uses one of his finishers in CMLL with that double knee smash to the corner in NXT. However, I prefer the Brillante Driver (Schoolboy Suplex) or the Split-legged corkscrew moonsault as his finisher, but I don’t think it will happen, maybe in the future, but we’ll see. Good debut for Andrade “Cien” Almas and I can’t wait to see what he and Tye Dillinger do next in NXT.

Good match and can’t wait to see what plans NXT have for Andrade “Cien” Almas and Tye Dillinger in the future.

We then see Nia Jax backstage warming up for her match against Asuka later on the night which is good to see as this hypes the NXT Women’s Championship match later on the show and it shows how ready she is for the match. Can’t wait for that match, it should be interesting to see.

American Alpha Vs. The Revival for the NXT Tag Team Championships was an excellent tag team match. Mark out moment! Wow, just wow. This is probably the best tag team match I have ever seen in NXT and they were plenty of great tag team matches in NXT, but this tag team match right here was excellent.

Both of these teams went out there and they gave everything they have for this match and it was amazing. The Revival being those old school type of heels by raking the eyes, holding the tights, and doing tag team moves by the referee’s back. I enjoyed that a lot.

American Alpha being so hot and fire with their chemistry with each other in that ring is incredible. American Alpha was extremely over in this match and it was great to see because they are a great tag team. The work that American Alpha did in this match was incredible with the double ankle locks, the dropkick by Jason Jordan to the bridging German suplex by Chad Gable, and Chad Gable doing a belly to belly suplex onto Scott Dawson as Scott Dawson was about to hit Chad Gable with a diving clothesline with Chad Gable being in the electric chair position by Dash Wilder. It was incredible.

The ending of the match came when American Alpha was about to hit Scott Dawson with the Grand Amplitude, but then Dash Wilder pushed Chad Gable outside to the ring to help Scott Dawson and they delivered Shatter Machine on Jason Jordan to regain the NXT Tag Team Championships! Mark out moment! Wow, I did not expect The Revival to regain their championships at all. I thought American Alpha was going to win this match, but The Revival ended up getting the titles back which I’m not complaining about because The Revival are a great tag team and they deserve to be NXT Tag Team Championships again.

However, I feel sorry for American Alpha as they only held the NXT Tag Team Championships for two months. I wonder why they lost the tag team championships so soon. Is it because they are heading up to the main roster soon? Who knows, but either way, hands off to both teams in this match because this tag team was incredible. Congratulations to The Revival for being the first ever tag team to hold the NXT Tag Team Championships twice!

But it doesn’t end there because after the match, American Alpha were attacked from behind by The Authors of Pain, Sunny Dhinsa and Gzim Selmani. The Authors of Pain then destroyed Chad Gable with the big boot to the side of the head/swinging sidewalk slam combination and destroyed Jason Jordan with the Russian legsweep/clothesline combination. Holy shoot! The Authors of Pain have made their NXT debuts! Mark out moment for both! I heard about these guys as these two were training in the Performance Center and doing NXT live events for the past few months or so, in a way, I do know who they are, but I don’t really know much about them. I have to wait and see what these guys can do before I can make a judgement on them.

However, things got more interesting when WWE Hall of Famer Paul Ellering appeared on the ramp and as The Authors of Pain stood beside him after their attack on American Alpha. They left after the carnage they have done. Oh my god! Paul Ellering just made an appearance on NXT! Mark out moment! Wow, I did not see that coming at all, but it’s great to see him there as he is one of the best managers in wrestling history. Him managing The Authors of Pain should be great. I’m looking forward to that.

But there is one thing that bothered me in this segment and that was the crowd. The crowd was chanting, “Who are you?!” when Paul Ellering came out and I don’t know if they were chanting, “Who are you?” to The Authors of Pain or Paul Ellering. If the crowd was chanting, “Who are you?!” to The Authors of Pain, I may understand, but to the legendary Paul Ellering, that to me is very disrespectful and the crowd should be ashamed of that. Instead of chanting “Who are you?”, maybe boo instead because he just took out American Alpha with The Authors of Pain. Just a thought Full Sail crowd. Other than that, I thought it was a good post-match segment and I’m very interested to see why Paul Ellering have The Authors of Pain to attack American Alpha. I guess we’ll find out in the next coming weeks, looking forward to it.

Excellent tag team match and good post-match segment. I’m interested to see what The Revival will do in their second run as NXT Tag Team Champions and interested to see on how this potential feud between American Alpha and The Authors of Pain with Paul Ellering will play out.

We then see Asuka warming up backstage until Bayley shows up and shakes Asuka’s hand for respect. Bayley then leaves with Asuka staring at her. It seems like we might get a potential match up between Asuka and Bayley in the near future. I’m all for it as Bayley hasn’t gotten her rematch clause yet and their match at NXT Dallas was excellent. I’ll be looking forward to that when that time comes. Also, that stare from Asuka is creepy. However, she needs to save that for her match against Nia Jax later on the show. Can’t wait for that match, it should be interesting to see. Nice backstage segment here.

Shinsuke Nakamura Vs. Austin Aries was an excellent match. Mark out moment! Wow, just wow. This was definitely a dream match that came to life and I love every single minute of it. Incredible.

The entrances of both men were great as I like how Austin Aries has his cape and Shinsuke Nakamura being full of swag with his entrance which is awesome. However, there was one thing that strike me when Austin Aries came out and that was the taped up bandages of Austin Aries’ ribs. Now, I don’t know if Austin Aries’ is actually injured or not, but he did sell the injury at times during the match so whether it’s legit or not, he sold it well. That was the only strange thing about Austin Aries, but other than that, he did excellent in this match.

Shinsuke Nakamura did excellent in this match too as both men have great chemistry with each other. Both men went back and forth throughout the entire match and it felt like at points where one could beat the other, but they managed to keep fighting. It was incredible.

Also, I have to give big props to both Austin Aries and Shinsuke Nakamura for taking huge bumps in that match with Austin Aries hitting the guardrail with that missed bottom rope suicide dive and Shinsuke Nakamura taking that Death Valley Driver on the apron. Those spots looked nasty and I’m surprised that they got up after that so big props to them for that.

In the end, Shinsuke Nakamura gets the win on Austin Aries with the Kinshasa. Just an excellent match all around. Have to give big props to them for that. Incredible. With this win, I can see Shinsuke Nakamura going after the NXT Championship. Will it happen? Well, I guess we’ll find out in the next few weeks.

Excellent match and interested to see what Shinsuke Nakamura and Austin Aries do next in NXT.

Asuka Vs. Nia Jax for the NXT Women’s Championship was a good women’s match. I said before that this women’s match may have brutality and it did in this match.

Both women did their part in this match and I think they did very well. Now, it’s not a technical masterpiece, it’s far from it. However, this match did tell a good story in the ring where Nia Jax was playing this big unstoppable force that was dominant and powerful while Asuka was trying to overcome that obstacle despite the punishment she got from Nia Jax.

It’s pretty simple, but it’s very effective and I thought both women played their roles well in this match. Good effort by both women here.

In the end, Asuka defeated Nia Jax with a series of kicks to get the pin and retain her NXT Women’s Championship. Wow! I did not expect Nia Jax to want Asuka to give her more after she got kicked by Asuka twice on the head. Nia Jax had a lot of guts for that. However, her guts cost her the match as she suffered two more kicks from Asuka. With this victory over Nia Jax, it seems like Asuka will be facing Bayley next for the NXT Women’s Championship which I’m all for it since they had an excellent match at NXT Dallas. I’m looking forward to it.

Good women’s match and can’t wait to see what’s next for Nia Jax after this loss as well as the possible rematch between Asuka and Bayley for the NXT Women’s Championship.

The backstage segment with William Regal, Bobby Roode, and Andrea D’Marco was good. Andrea D’Marco interviews William Regal about NXT The End and as William Regal is talking about NXT The End, Bobby Roode walks past by him as he enters William Regal’s office. William Regal then goes in the office. Holy shoot! I just saw Bobby Roode! Mark out moment! The last time we saw Bobby Roode in NXT was in the audience at NXT Dallas, but now, it seems like we may be getting Bobby Roode in NXT soon. If so, that’s awesome and I can’t wait to see Bobby Roode in NXT if that’s the case. Good backstage segment here.

We then see Neville in the crowd for NXT The End. Holy shoot! Neville is here to watch NXT The End live and in person! Mark out moment! Neville had been a big part of NXT from 2013 to 2015 so seeing him here is great. I can’t wait to see him back in the ring. Great to see Neville on this show.

Samoa Joe Vs. Finn Balor in a steel cage match for the NXT Championship was excellent. Mark out moment! Also, that entrance from Finn Balor, that was awesome! Mark out moment! It seems like every time Finn Balor becomes the demon, he always has a new entrance up his sleeve and that’s awesome to see. I love that a lot.

The match itself is what I expected as it was very hard hitting, very competitive, and it felt like at points where both men can win the match. The times I thought the match was over were when Samoa Joe hit the Muscle Buster on Finn Balor, but Finn Balor kicked out and when Finn Balor hit the Coup de Grace on Samoa Joe, but Samoa Joe kicked out. The reason why I was surprised by this is because NXT rarely have matches that let people kick out of their finishers so when both men kicked out from each other’s finishers, I was surprised and shocked. Despite that, it didn’t take anything from the match as it made both Samoa Joe and Finn Balor work harder to get the victory over one another.

I also like how both Samoa Joe and Finn Balor utilized the steel cage in the match even though I do wish that they use it more like Finn Balor trying to do a dive from the top of the cage, but that’s just me.

The ending came when Finn Balor was about to escape from the steel cage, but Samoa Joe grabbed and hooked Finn Balor up for a Super Muscle Buster to get the pin and retain the NXT Championship. Wow! That was an awesome ending to an excellent steel cage match. Incredible. It seems like the feud between Samoa Joe and Finn Balor is finally over and it was a good feud, but I think it’s time for new feuds for both Samoa Joe and Finn Balor. So what’s next for both Samoa Joe and Finn Balor? I guess we’ll find out in the weeks to come. Looking forward to it.

Excellent steel cage match and I can’t wait to see what’s next for Samoa Joe and Finn Balor going forward.

Overall, great show by NXT. Like I said before, even though I don’t think this is the best NXT live special that NXT has done so far since doing these NXT live specials as I think NXT Dallas is the best one, it was still a great show in its own right. The show was great with their special moments and matches.

Another great show for NXT in 2016 and it’s going to look even brighter later in the year with NXT Brooklyn II for Summerslam weekend. We are the Natural eXhilarating Talents! We are the next generation! We are the future and the future is now! We are NXT! NXT! NXT! NXT!
