Lucha Underground 6/8/16 Review: Cero Miedo for Ultima Lucha Dos!

Published

on

Lucha Underground on June 8, 2016 was a great show that is building feuds and storylines for the future as well as building up new characters which is good. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a recap of what happened between The Dare End Slayers, Drago, Aero Star, Captain Vasquez, Cortez Castro, Dario Cueto, Councilman Delgado, Joey Ryan, Mr. Cisco, Pentagon Jr., Matanza, and Vampiro earlier in the season of Lucha Underground Season 2. This is a good way to remind people about what happened during that time in case they missed it or forgot about it as this week, the people from the recap appeared on the show. Well done and well produced.

The backstage segment between Black Lotus and Dario Cueto was good. Black Lotus confronts Dario Cueto in his office and questions Dario Cueto if he’s lying or not about who killed her parents. Dario Cueto tells Black Lotus that it was Dragon Azteca that killed her parents. Dario Cueto also tells Black Lotus that she will face Dragon Azteca Jr. at Ultima Lucha Dos and if she wins, she gets to take Dragon Azteca Jr.’s mask.

Wow, so we’re getting Dragon Azteca Jr. Vs. Black Lotus at Ultima Lucha Dos where if Black Lotus wins, she gets to take Dragon Azteca Jr.’s mask, awesome! I have watched Black Lotus wrestled before when she was Savannah in FCW, she’s pretty solid and with someone like Dragon Azteca Jr. carrying her since I don’t think she has wrestled for a while, then it should be a good match to watch. It seems like we’re getting closer for this storyline to have a breaking point and it might start at Ultima Lucha Dos.

With the addition of Dragon Azteca Jr.’s mask being on the line, it makes the match much more interesting. Looking forward to see how this match goes at Ultima Lucha Dos. Good backstage segment here.

Matt Striker and Vampiro announces that in four weeks, Lucha Underground will present Ultima Lucha Dos. They also announced that in the main event on this show, it will be a twelve man tag team match between Prince Puma, Texano, Sexy Star, Son of Havoc, Rey Mysterio, and The Mack Vs. Fenix, Ivelisse, King Cuerno, Taya, Johnny Mundo, and Chavo Guerrero. The winning team will face each other next week in a six way match where the winner will face Matanza for the Lucha Underground Championship at Ultima Lucha Dos.

Wow, Ultima Lucha Dos is in four weeks already?! Man, that was fast. A part of me is happy and sad about this news as Season 2 of Lucha Underground will be ending and Season 3 of Lucha Underground won’t start until early next year which made me sad a little bit. However, I am excited for Ultima Lucha Dos as Ultima Lucha last season was great so I expect another great show from Lucha Underground this season with Ultima Lucha Dos. I can’t wait. Also, looking forward to the main event later on the show, it should be fun.

Killshot Vs. Marty Martinez was a good match while it lasted. Before the match, Marty Martinez was creeping out Melissa Santos again until Melissa Santos got out of the ring. Marty Martinez then holds Killshot’s dog tags up in the air taunting with them until Killshot came in and went face to face with Marty Martinez as they start the match.

After fighting for a few minutes, both men were outside the ring and they were both counted out. However, despite that, they still continue to brawl as Killshot managed to get the dog tags back by hitting Marty Martinez with a kick.

But it backfired on Killshot as Marty Martinez hit a German suplex on Killshot from behind to regain the dog tags. Killshot then tried to get it back, but Marty Martinez retreated with the dog tags.

Well at least Melissa Santos did the right thing by escaping from Marty Martinez this time. Jokes aside, it seems like this feud between Killshot and Marty Martinez may go all the way through till Ultima Lucha Dos which I’m fine with as I’m really interested in the feud and storyline between these two right now. Very interested to see how will it end. Will Mariposa be involved? Will Killshot get backup to fight against Mariposa? So many directions on where this feud can go, but I’ll be waiting to see what Lucha Underground has in store for these two down the road.

Good match while it lasted and good post-match segment. I’m interested to see what happens next in this Killshot Vs. Marty Martinez feud.

The video segment between Mr. Cisco, Cortez Castro, Joey Ryan, and Captain Vasquez was good. Mr. Cisco is shown being held in a holding room with handcuffs on as Joey Ryan and Cortez Castro interrogate him with Captain Vasquez. Joey Ryan and Cortez Castro tell Mr. Cisco to wear a wire and go back to the Temple to get more info on Dario Cueto. Mr. Cisco then questions them on why they are looking to get Dario Cueto. Captain Vasquez then tells Mr. Cisco that Dario Cueto is involve with drugs, murder, and most importantly, she thinks that Dario Cueto is the “lynch pin to the end of days”.

Captain Vasquez then asks Mr. Cisco to help them, but Mr. Cisco refuses. She then tells Mr. Cisco to enjoy time in prison, but eventually Mr. Cisco decides to listen what Captain Vasquez has to say as the segment ends.

So with this segment, does that mean The Cop Crew is back? Yes! We need more trios in Lucha Underground so I’m all for this. Okay, jokes aside, it seems like we’re also getting closer to the breaking point of this storyline as well. I have no idea how this storyline will plat out, but I’m intrigued on what’s going to happen. It should be interesting to see. Good video segment here.

Drago and Aero Star Vs. The Dare End Slayers in a nunchunks match was excellent. Mark out moment! Wow, I never expect myself to enjoy a nunchunks match because it seems like a silly idea at first, but once everyone start to play their part, it worked very well.

Basically, the nunchunks are up near the top of the Temple and in order to use them, you need to get them. Pretty simple enough, but the way the match played out was simply amazing. Jack Evans and PJ Black representing The Dare End Slayers did their part well in this match by doing whatever it takes to win the match while Drago and Aero Star did whatever it takes to get the victory. It was very well played out.

Also, the usage of the nunchunks from the men in this match were very brutal. I can imagine getting hit from those nunchunks multiple times, it must have been painful so big props to them for taking those shots. Plus, that dive from Aero Star from the top of Dario Cueto’s office onto The Dare End Slayers! Mark out moment! Even though I have seen that spot many times before in Lucha Underground, I still marked out every time someone does it because you don’t expect people to jump off that height, but for certain wrestlers to do that, I have to give them big props for being brave. So well done Aero Star.

The ending of the match came when Drago hit Jack Evans multiple times with the nunchunks, then he sprayed some mist on him before pinning Jack Evans with the Dragon’s Tail (Flying headscissors transitioned into a rolling cruifix hold) to get the win. I have a feeling that this feud between these four is far from over. I expect Fenix and Johnny Mundo to be a part of this feud as we will probably get Fenix, Drago, and Aero Star Vs. The Dare End Slayers for the Lucha Underground Trios Championships at Ultima Lucha Dos which I’m all for as I think that could be a great trios match. Looking forward to see what’s next for this feud.

Excellent nunchunks match and interested to see where this feud goes next heading into Ultima Lucha Dos.

Prince Puma, Texano, Sexy Star, Son of Havoc, Rey Mysterio, and The Mack Vs. Fenix, Ivelisse, King Cuerno, Taya, Johnny Mundo, and Pentagon Jr. in a twelve man tag team match was excellent. Mark out moment! This match was a lot of fun where everyone had a chance to shine.

Originally, Chavo Guerrero was supposed to be in this match. As Chavo Guerrero made his entrance, Pentagon Jr. made his return to the Temple with a wheelchair! Pentagon Jr. is back in the Temple! Mark out moment! Pentagon Jr. is one of the best characters and wrestlers in Lucha Underground so it’s great to see him back.

Pentagon Jr. wheels out and tells Chavo Guerrero that he was the only one that supported him and he thanked him for it. Then, Pentagon Jr. got up and told Chavo Guerrero that he’s going to destroy him as he took Chavo Guerrero out by breaking his arm.

Dario Cueto and Black Lotus came out from Dario Cueto’s office and Dario Cueto said that since Chavo Guerrero is out, he decided to let Pentagon Jr. in the match, but he warned Pentagon Jr. that he will regret it as he might face Matanza once again.

Wow, poor Chavo Guerrero. It seems like he’ll be out for a while and might miss Ultima Lucha Dos. Unfortunate for him, but I’m very glad to see Pentagon Jr. in this spot. Cero Miedo!

The match itself was a lot of fun. Everyone had a chance to shine in the match and another reason why I love this match is because they’re setting up and continuing feuds and storylines from the wrestlers in the match. There was tension between Ivelisse and Taya, Fenix and Johnny Mundo, Prince Puma and Rey Mysterio, and so on. This is a great way to continue multiple feuds at once, it’s amazing.

The ending of the match came when Rey Mysterio hit a 619 onto Johnny Mundo and tagged in Prince Puma as he was about to hit the 630 Senton. However, Johnny Mundo pushed Rey Mysterio off to Prince Puma and then Johnny Mundo goes to the top rope with Prince Puma and hits a moonsault side slam on Prince Puma to get the pin and win for his team.

So it seems like we’ll be getting Fenix Vs. Ivelisse Vs. King Cuerno Vs. Taya Vs. Johnny Mundo Vs. Pentagon Jr. next week where the winner will get a shot at the Lucha Underground Championship at Ultima Lucha Dos, awesome! That should be a great six way match next week. I’m expecting Pentagon Jr. to win that match and face Matanza at Ultima Lucha Dos for the Lucha Underground Championship which should be great. I can’t wait for that match. I’m looking forward to that six way match next week, it should be a lot of fun.

Excellent twelve man tag team match and I can’t wait for next week’s six way match.

The video segment between Catrina and Mil Muertes was great. Catrina is shown in King Cuerno’s den as she finds Mil Muertes in the glass casket. Catrina then revives Mil Muertes as the glass cakset breaks and Mil Muertes was reborned to end the segment.

Well, it seems like Catrina is doing fine which is great because she is a great character and seeing Mil Muertes back is great as well. I expect him to cost King Cuerno his opportunity to win next week as I expect King Cuerno Vs. Mil Muertes at Ultima Lucha Dos which should be great. Great video segment to end the show.

Overall, great show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. So many storylines and feuds here and I love it! Next week, we’re going to have Fenix Vs. Ivelisse Vs. King Cuerno Vs. Taya Vs. Johnny Mundo Vs. Pentagon Jr. where the winner will face Matanza for the Lucha Underground Championship at Ultima Lucha Dos. Looking forward to that. The road to Ultima Lucha Dos has begun and I can’t wait for that show, it should be great. If you haven’t already, please check out Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
