NXT on June 15, 2016 was a good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:
Also, before I start the review, what NXT did by respecting the people in Orlando after the tragic that happened on Sunday was very nice to see. Stay safe and be strong for the people of Orlando.
We start off the show with a video package of what happened at NXT The End last week. This was good as it shows what happened last week at NXT The End for those who have missed it or forgot about it. If you haven’t watched the show yet, please do because it’s great. Good video package to start off the show.
CJ O’Doyle & Sean Swag Vs. The Authors of Pain was a good tag team squash match. The Authors of Pain have made their NXT in-ring debuts! Mark out moment! Also, it was cool to see CJ O’Doyle and Sean Swag there as they’re wrestlers from ACW. They have a lot of potential so it was great to see them there.
However, CJ O’Doyle and Sean Swag couldn’t do anything to The Authors of Pain as The Authors of Pain completely destroyed them with their strength and power. The Authors of Pain finished off both men with the big boot/swinging sidewalk combination and the Russian legsweep/clothesline combination. I’m very intrigued on why The Authors of Pain are aligned with Paul Ellering and why Paul Ellering is in NXT. Hopefully, we’ll get answers soon.
Good tag team squash match and interested to see what the plans are for The Authors of Pain and Paul Ellering going forward.
The backstage segment with Andrade “Cien” Almas and Tye Dillinger by Cathy Kelley was good. Cathy Kelley interviewed Andrade “Cien” Almas about his match against Tye Dillinger next week and when Andrade “Cien” Almas was answering her question, Tye Dillinger showed up and interrupted him. He told Andrade “Cien” Almas that his win at NXT The End was a fluke and that he’s nowhere near his level as he leaves as Andrade “Cien” Almas looked serious to end the segment.
I like how there seems to be a feud between Andrade “Cien” Almas and Tye Dillinger which is great because the more feuds in NXT, the better. Their match together at NXT The End was good so I expect another good match between them in the future. Good backstage interview here.
The backstage interview with The Authors of Pain and Paul Ellering by Andrea D’Marco was good. Andrea D’Marco was trying to interview The Authors of Pain, but they walked right past her. She then tried to interview Paul Ellering, but all Paul Ellering said was, “In due time.” as he leaves.
Well it seems like we have to wait for answers for why The Authors of Pain and Paul Ellering are here. I’m very intrigued on why they attack American Alpha in the first place so hopefully, we’ll get answers soon. Good backstage interview here.
Carmella Vs. Tessa Blanchard was a good women’s match. Oh my god! Tessa Blanchard made another appearance on NXT! Mark out moment! NXT, please sign her already! Thank you.
I like how Tessa Blanchard was showing her character and personality here in this match like her work in the independent circuit. That was very nice to see.
Carmella keeps improving every time she’s in that ring. Love the superkick that she does, it looks awesome. She gets the victory over Tessa Blanchard by hitting the reverse STO followed by the Code of Silence (Modified figure-four headscissors) to make Tessa Blanchard tap out. I’m interested to see who Carmella will feud with next in NXT.
Good women’s match and I can’t wait to see what Carmella does next in NXT. Also, NXT, please sign Tessa Blanchard!
The post-match promo with Samoa Joe after his steel cage match against Finn Balor at NXT The End last week was good. Samoa Joe talked about the sacrifices that he made in order to win the NXT Championship as he hunted down his brother, the demon, to see who is the undisputed NXT Champion. He said that this victory is just the beginning.
Samoa Joe has been on a tear as of late. It will be very interesting to see who will face Samoa Joe next for the NXT Championship. I’m looking forward to see what happens next with Samoa Joe. Good post-match promo here.
The backstage interview with BAM Factor by Cathy Kelley was good. Cathy Kelley asked BAM Factor if they solved their issues after what happened between them a few weeks ago. BAM Factor agreed that Alexa Bliss was dragging them down and she was the problem. Buddy Murphy said their history is behind them and they look forward to reclaiming their NXT Tag Team Championships. Their first victims, TM-61.
It seems like BAM Factor is doing fine now as it seems like they’re getting back on the same page which is good as NXT needs more tag teams and the more tag teams, the better. So it seems like TM-61 will be their first targets on trying to get their NXT Tag Team Championships which should be a good tag team match. Looking forward to it. Good backstage interview here.
TM-61 Vs. BAM Factor was a good tag team match. Both of these teams went out there and deliver a good tag team where both teams didn’t look weak.
BAM Factor showed that they still have a good chemistry with each other despite having issues with each other. Though, they did show that they have a little miscommunication in the match where Buddy Murphy accidentally hit Blake with a kick to the gut and Blake hitting a clothesline onto Buddy Murphy. Despite that, they still looked great together as a tag team and I hope they don’t break up as they need each other.
TM-61 did well in this match as well showing their tag team moves and chemistry with each other like in their work in Australia and Japan. TM-61 got the win over BAM Factor by hitting Thunder Valley (Thrust spinebuster/Thurst sitout side slam) on Blake. Love that NXT kept the name of their tag team finisher which is nice to see. Will be very interesting to see where TM-61 go from here.
Good tag team match and I can’t wait to see what’s next for TM-61 and BAM Factor.
The post-match interview with The Revival after their match against American Alpha last week at NXT The End last week was good. The Revival talked about how they told everyone that they’re going to be 2x NXT Tag Team Champions because they talk heavy and hit hard.
Well The Revival proved to the world last week that they are the current 2x NXT Tag Team Champions. It will be interesting to see when American Alpha will get their rematch against The Revival for the NXT Tag Team Championships. I can’t wait for that match to happen, it should be excellent. Good post-match promo here.
We then get some pictures on what happened at the Download Festival as Bobby Roode made his appearance there. Holy shoot! Bobby Roode is coming to NXT! Mark out moment! Though, I questioned why he made his first appearance on NXT at a live event. However, it’s for certain that Bobby Roode is coming to NXT and I can’t wait for his NXT TV debut.
We then get a recap of what happened last month as Nia Jax injured Bayley’s leg. This is good as it reminds us on what happened last month and why Bayley isn’t wrestling at the moment.
The backstage interview with Bayley by Andrea D’Marco was good. Andrea D’Marco asked Bayley abut her condition and Bayley told Andrea D’Marco that she has an appointment next week, and if it goes well, she can wrestle again.
Awesome to see Bayley doing well and I can’t wait to see her back in the ring so she can get revenge on Nia Jax and try to get back her NXT Women’s Championship from Asuka. Good backstage interview here.
Andrade “Cien” Almas Vs. Tye Dillinger was a good match. After what happened backstage, it led to this match. I wished they build it up for next week to make people excited about it, but this was fine.
Just like their match at NXT The End, it was good. However, there were some things that were different in this match than their match at NXT The End last week.
Tye Dillinger is getting more over with the fans each time he appears and no matter what heel tactics he does, people still love him. It’s starting to get to the point where people want to get behind him because he’s so entertaining right now. I’m really surprised that NXT hasn’t made Tye Dillinger a face yet due to the reaction he’s getting, but sooner rather than later, they need to make him a face or else people will get confused on why he’s cheered even though he’s a heel.
Not only that, Andrade “Cien” Almas is starting to get some heat from the crowd even though they’re also cheering for him as well. I mean it happened last week at NXT The End as well, but this reaction was a lot more louder and noticeable than the crowd from NXT The End last week. I don’t know if NXT should turn Andrade “Cien” Almas heel immediately because of this as he still get pops from the crowd.
In the end, Andrade “Cien” Almas gets the win over Tye Dillinger with the running double knee smash to the corner. It will be very interesting to see what NXT will do with Andrade “Cien” Almas and Tye Dillinger because of the reaction from the crowd.
Good match and I’m interested to see what NXT will do with Andrade “Cien” Almas and Tye Dillinger because of the crowd’s reaction towards them.
The promo segment between Finn Balor and Shinsuke Nakamura was excellent. Mark out moment! Finn Balor made his way to the ring as the crowd chanted, “Thank you Finn!” and “Please don’t go!”.
Finn Balor talked about the very first time he saw NXT as he was sitting at home in Ireland watching The Certified Gs. That’s when he decided he wanted to become a part of NXT and NXT became a part of who he is. He was NXT Champion for 292 days who went up against guys like Neville, Tyler Breeze, Kevin Owens, Samoa Joe, and others. However, he is no longer NXT Champion.
Everyone wants to know what’s next for Finn Balor in NXT and the crowd was chanting, “Balor Club”, and Finn Balor responded with “Too Sweet”. He then asked again what’s next for him in NXT until the lights went out and Shinsuke Nakamura made his way to the ring.
The crowd was singing his theme as Shinsuke Nakamura made his way to the ring which is awesome as they did it last week at NXT The End, but more into it this week which was cool. Finn Balor and Shinsuke Nakamura both shook hands and the crowd chanted, “This is awesome!” as both men showed respect for each other which was awesome.
Shinsuke Nakamura asked Finn Balor if he wants some cause as he wants some. He then told Finn Balor that Finn Balor is the icon of NXT and even though he’s no longer the NXT Champion, he is still the icon of NXT. Shinsuke Nakamura then said that he wants become NXT Champion and in order to do that, he has to beat Finn Balor as the crowd went nuts.
Finn Balor told Shinsuke Nakamura that his answer is yes as both men shook each other’s hand.
So we’re getting Finn Balor Vs. Shinsuke Nakamura in NXT in the future, yes! Mark out moment! These two have faced other before in NJPW once in the 2014 New Japan Cup so seeing this match again in NXT is going to be excellent. I’m expecting this match to happen at NXT Back to Brooklyn because this match is way too big for a NXT TV show. Either way, I’m excited for this match and I can’t wait to see it.
Excellent promo segment and I can’t wait to see Finn Balor Vs. Shinsuke Nakamura in NXT.
Overall, good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. NXT Back to Brooklyn is in two months and who knows what matches we’ll get on that show. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
