Lucha Underground 6/29/16 Review: Hype for Ultima Lucha Dos

Published

on

Lucha Underground on June 29, 2016 was a good show that is building feuds and storylines for the future as well as building up new characters as Ultima Lucha Dos starts next week. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a recap of what happened between Mil Muertes, King Cuerno, Johnny Mundo, Taya, Fenix, Prince Puma, and Rey Mysterio earlier in the season of Lucha Underground Season 2. This is a good way to remind people about what happened during that time in case they missed it or forgot about it as this week, the people from the recap appeared on the show. Well done and well produced.

We get an announcement from Matt Striker and Vampiro that at Ultima Lucha Dos, it will be Worldwide Underground (Johnny Mundo, Jack Evans, and PJ Black) Vs. Super Friends (Fenix, Drago, and Aero Star) for the Lucha Underground Trios Championships. As I expected, this match was going to happen at Ultima Lucha Dos as these six men have a history with each other so it makes sense.

However, I am surprised that Lucha Underground have given these two teams trios names which is nice. Should be a great trios match between the two trios. Looking forward to it.

Mil Muertes Vs. King Cuerno was a good match for what it was. I was very surprised that this match happened on this show instead of Ultima Lucha Dos. However, what they did in this match was setting up another match between the two of them probably at Ultima Lucha Dos.

The ending of the match came when King Cuerno uses the ropes for leverage to get the pin and win on Mil Muertes which made Mil Muertes furious after the match. With this, I can definitely see them facing each other again at Ultima Lucha Dos, but would it be a normal match or a stipulation match? I guess only time will tell and I can’t wait to see these two go at it again, but hopefully, they will go at it longer than what they did here.

Good match and I can’t wait to Mil Muertes Vs. King Cuerno once again, but hopefully, in a longer match than what we got in this match.

The backstage segment between Dario Cueto, Taya, Ivelisse, and Catrina was great. Dario Cueto is in his office talking with Ivelisse and Taya. He tells them that they’re both impressive, but only one woman can be “The Baddest B*itch in the Building”. Dario Cueto then tells Ivelisse and Taya that they will face each other at Ultima Lucha Dos.

As I expected, these two are going to face each other at Ultima Lucha Dos. I’m really glad that Ivelisse Vs. Taya will be a singles match as I thought they will be in a multi-man match or a match with many people in it, but I’m glad they’re having an one on one match. Looking forward to their match at Ultima Lucha Dos, it should be great.

After Dario Cueto tells Ivelisse and Taya about their match, they both leave. As Ivelisse is leaving, she runs to Catrina as she enters. Ivelisse tells Catrina that they have unfinished business to take care of as Ivelisse leaves. Catrina then demands Dario Cueto a match between Mil Muertes and King Cuerno at Ultima Lucha Dos. Dario Cueto did not want the match at first until Catrina says that she wants Mil Muertes Vs. King Cuerno in a Death match at Ultima Lucha Dos. Dario Cueto then changes his mind and makes the match official as Catrina disappears.

Again, I still wonder how Catrina has those teleportation powers. Anyway, as I expected, Mil Muertes and King Cuerno will face each other once again at Ultima Lucha Dos. However, this time, it will be in a Death match! Mark out moment! This will be the second Death match in Lucha Underground as the first one was Fenix Vs. Mil Muertes last season. Oh man, I can’t wait for this match as it should be excellent and very brutal. Looking forward to it. Great backstage segment here.

Prince Puma Vs. Dragon Azteca Jr. was an excellent match. Mark out moment! These two men went out there and they deliver an excellent match making both men looking strong heading into their matches at Ultima Lucha Dos.

Dragon Azteca Jr. with that awesome tornado DDT of his which is nice to see and Prince Puma pulling out all the stops in order to beat Dragon Azteca Jr. It was a very competitive match that either man could have won, but in the end, Prince Puma became victorious as he hit the 630 senton on Dragon Azteca Jr. for the win.

After the match, Rey Mysterio then checks on Dragon Azteca Jr. as he was at ringside with him. Prince Puma then stared at him and talked trash to Rey Mysterio as the two stare down at each other.

I like how there’s some tension between Prince Puma and Rey Mysterio since just having two of them being babyfaces wanting a great match is not enough to get people invested in the match. However, interactions like this makes me even more excited about the match as Prince Puma thinks that he’s better than Rey Mysterio which is why he did what he did to Rey Mysterio after the match. It should be an excellent match and I’m looking forward to it.

Excellent match and I can’t wait to see Dragon Azteca Jr. Vs. Black Lotus and Rey Mysterio Vs. Prince Puma at Ultima Lucha Dos.

The promo segment between Dario Cueto, Son of Havoc, Cage, The Mack, and Texano was great. Dario Cueto is in the ring with Son of Havoc, Cage, The Mack, and Texano where he says that he has big plans for them.

Dario Cueto then announces that Son of Havoc, Cage, The Mack, and Texano will be in the first ever Unique Opportunity Tournament and he promises that this opportunity will be the best yet. He wants them to give him everything they have because only one man can become victorious. He then leaves as the four men went after each other in the ring.

Man, even more awesome matches for Ultima Lucha Dos. It’s great to see that Son of Havoc, Cage, The Mack, and Texano will be at Ultima Lucha Dos which makes me happy. I wonder what this Unique Opportunity will be, but I guess we’ll find out at Ultima Lucha Dos. Looking forward to it. Great promo segment here.

Matt Striker and Vampiro then went down the Ultima Lucha Dos card that will happen on July 6, July 13, and July 20. I will talk about each match that will be on the show one by one so let’s get to it.

The Unique Opportunity Tournament featuring Son of Havoc, Cage, The Mack, and Texano should be great as all four men are tremendous wrestlers. I don’t know how this tournament will work out, but the participants in this tournament looks great and I can’t wait to see it in action. I expect Cage to win the Unique Opportunity Tournament as he has been on a roll as of late, but we’ll see at Ultima Lucha Dos.

Ivelisse Vs. Taya should be great as these two have been feuding with each other for a few months now so I expect these two to tear each other apart. I expect Ivelisse to win this match, but I won’t be surprised if Taya wins this match in order to continue the feud between the two into Season 3, but we’ll see.

Dragon Azteca Jr. Vs. Black Lotus where if Black Lotus wins, she’ll get Dragon Azteca Jr.’s mask. I like how the commentators didn’t mention that stipulation since they don’t know what’s going on backstage which is nice to know that the fans know more than the commentators. As for the match, I think it could be good as Black Lotus is a pretty good wrestler from the time I saw her in FCW as Savannah. It will be interesting to see how this match will play out, but I expect Dragon Azteca Jr. to win this match because I doubt he would remove his mask right away. However, we’ll find out that answer at Ultima Lucha Dos.

Rey Mysterio Vs. Prince Puma should be an excellent as it will be The Face of Lucha Underground Vs. The Face of Lucha Libre. This match could possibly steal the show and I’m really excited for it. I expect Prince Puma to win here, but we’ll find out at Ultima Lucha Dos.

Mil Muertes Vs. King Cuerno in a Death match should be excellent as these two have been feuding for the past few months now so I expect these two to tear each other apart. I expect Mil Muertes to win this match to get his revenge on King Cuerno, but we’ll see at Ultima Lucha Dos.

Night Claw Vs. Daga Vs. Killshot Vs. Marty Martinez Vs. Siniestro de la Muerte Vs. Sexy Star Vs. Mariposa for the Gift of the Gods Championship should be fun as there are multiple feuds in this match. Also, once again, I like how the commentators didn’t know who the seventh man is in the Gift of the Gods Championship match because they don’t know what happened backstage. I expect either Sexy Star or Night Claw to win the Gift of the Gods Championship, but we’ll see at Ultima Lucha Dos.

Worldwide Underground Vs. Super Friends for the Lucha Underground Trios Championships should be great as all six men have beef with each other and they’re going to tear each other apart at Ultima Lucha Dos. I expect Super Friends to walk out as Lucha Underground Trios Champions, but we’ll see at Ultima Lucha Dos.

Matanza Vs. Pentagon Jr. for the Lucha Underground Championship should be great as these two have feuding for the past few months and with Pentagon Jr. returning, he is looking to get his revenge on Matanza. I expect Pentagon Jr. to walk out as Lucha Underground Champion, but we’ll see at Ultima Lucha Dos.

Ultima Lucha Dos looks to be a great show and I’m looking forward to watching it next week. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!

Fenix Vs. Johnny Mundo was a great match. To hype up the Lucha Underground Trios Championship match at Ultima Lucha Dos, the leaders of each trio went head to head in this match and it was great.

Both men look great in this match without either one looking weak in the process as they head towards their trios match with their respective teams at Ultima Lucha Dos.

The ending of the match came when Taya threw in the Lucha Underground Trios title in the ring while distracting the referee as Johnny Mundo uses the title to knock out Fenix to get the pin and win. It was a nice way to get Johnny Mundo heat on him while not making Fenix look weak as he got screwed over in this match.

After the match, Jack Evans and PJ Black came into the ring and celebrated with Johnny Mundo and Taya. They then beat down Fenix until Drago, Aero Star, and Ivelisse came down to make the save. They tossed Worldwide Underground out of the ring as they stood tall at the end of the show.

This is a great way to give hype to the matches at Ultima Lucha Dos and I’m excited for every match at Ultima Lucha Dos which should be great.

Great match and good post-match segment. I can’t wait to see Ultima Lucha Dos next week, get hyped! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!

Overall, good show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters as Ultima Lucha Dos starts next week. So many storylines and feuds here and I love it! Next week, part one of Ultima Lucha Dos will begin and I can’t wait! It should be great. If you haven’t already, please check out Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
