Ultima Lucha Dos on July 6, 2016 was an excellent show that had excellent matches and great moments throughout the show as the second season of Lucha Underground is coming to an end. Let’s break it down:
Now, before I get into the show, Lucha Underground have posted an online exclusive match on Youtube where it was Worldwide Underground Vs. These Guys for the Lucha Underground Trios Championships. I won’t be talking about the match since it’s not part of the review, but go out of your way and watch this as it was fun and entertaining. Plus, some potential new talent coming to Lucha Underground is possible with the performances of These Guys in this match. That’s all I have to say about it.
Here’s the match for you guys to see for yourself. Anyway, let’s get on the review.
We start off the show with a recap of what happened between Dario Cueto, The Mack, Son of Havoc, Texano, and Cage earlier in the season of Lucha Underground Season 2. This is a good way to remind people about what happened during that time in case they missed it or forgot about it as this week, the people from the recap appeared on the show. Well done and well produced.
The Mack Vs. Cage in a 4 A Unique Opportunity Tournament Semi-Final Match was excellent. Mark out moment! Now, before I talk about the match itself, I have said this many times in Lucha Underground and I will say it again. Lucha Underground, have entrances for your wrestlers please! Thank you.
Before the match began, Dario Cueto came out of his office and said that The Mack Vs. Cage in a Falls Count Anywhere Match last season at Ultima Lucha was excellent. Now, he’s going to make this match a Falls Count Anywhere Match! Mark out moment!
Even though Dario Cueto is an evil man, he knows what people want and what he wants in the temple and that is violence! The Mack Vs. Cage in a Falls Count Anywhere Match last season at Ultima Lucha was excellent so I was expecting another excellent match between the two and they delivered.
This match had tons of great moments here which made the match very memorable. There was a part where Cage hit The Mack with a framed poster! Mark out moment! It looked painful as heck and I thought The Mack would have bled for that spot, but he didn’t. Big props to The Mack for taking that spot as it looked painful.
I also love the parts where The Mack brought in pinatas where one of them contained a wrench and the other one contained candy which Cage picked up as The Mack hit him with the wrench which was funny and cool. I also love the tribute to “Stone Cold” Steve Austin by The Mack here with the beer cans and the stunners, that was awesome as well.
However, my favorite part of this match was when The Mack went up to the bleachers and he hit a frog splash from the bleachers onto Cage through a table! Mark out moment! That was an awesome spot, it was insane, and I loved it! Big props for The Mack doing that spot, incredible!
The ending of the match came when Cage was about to finish The Mack with a cinder block, reminiscing the finish from their match last season. Before he could put The Mack away, Cage slipped on beer from the floor as The Mack rolled Cage into a schoolboy to get the pin and win. Wow, what a nice way for The Mack to get revenge on Cage from last season’s match. Outstanding.
I was very surprised that The Mack gained the victory here as I thought Cage would go over here as Cage has been on a roll lately in Lucha Underground. However, I am very happy for The Mack as he moves onto the finals of the 4 A Unique Opportunity Tournament.
Excellent Falls Count Anywhere match and congratulations to The Mack moving on to the finals!
Son of Havoc Vs. Texano in a 4 A Unique Opportunity Tournament Semi-Final Match was excellent. Mark out moment! Just like the first match, both of these men went out there and they gave everything they had in order to get this unique opportunity.
Before the match began, Dario Cueto came out again from his office and announced that this match will be Boyle Heights Bar Fight! Mark out moment! Once again, Dario Cueto is showing why he’s the man in Lucha Underground. He’s such a great character and I love it! Now, let’s talk about the match. Ring the bell!
Even though this match doesn’t have much moments compared to the first match, this match had some memorable moments. There were points where Son of Havoc was wearing a fire helmet and brought in a fire extinguisher to use it on Texano, that was cool. There was also a spot where Texano hit a beer bottle on Son of Havoc’s head, but since he was wearing the fire helmet, he was protected. Well, that’s something you won’t see everyday in wrestling so that was sweet.
However, my favorite part of this match was when Son of Havoc hit a backdrop on Texano who dropped through the bar! Mark out moment! Dang, that must have been painful going through all of those broken glass bottles. Big props for Texano for taking that spot because I don’t think a lot of people would have done that so hands off to him.
The ending of the match came when Son of Havoc hit a double foot stomp on Texano through glass to get the pin and win. Oh my god, once again, big props to Texano for doing that spot. Must have been painful going through all of that glass. Hands off to Texano for doing that when he didn’t have to.
With this win, Son of Havoc has moved on to the finals in the 4 A Unique Opportunity Tournament as he will face The Mack. Should be a great match between the two and I’m looking forward to it.
Excellent Boyle Heights Bar Fight and I can’t wait to see The Mack Vs. Son of Havoc in the finals next!
Matt Striker and Vampiro then went down the Ultima Lucha Dos card in the next two weeks in which I already talked about in my last review so if you want to see my thoughts on those matches. Check out my latest review. Now, let’s get on to the finals!
The Mack Vs. Son of Havoc in a 4 A Unique Opportunity Tournament Final Match was excellent. Mark out moment! Man, three excellent matches in a row, this is great! I love it!
Before the match began, Dario Cueto came out yet again from his office and announced that this match will be a Falls Count Anywhere Match! Mark out moment! Seriously, who doesn’t love Dario Cueto at this point? He’s awesome! All hail El Jefe! Now, let’s talk about the match! Ring the bell!
Despite the match being Falls Count Anywhere, they didn’t do much outside of the ring as most of the action was in the ring so that was disappointing. Also, the match was shorter than expected as well as I thought that match would have gone even longer.
Despite that, it was still an excellent match where both men looked great as they want to get this unique opportunity from Dario Cueto.
The ending of the match came when Son of Havoc hit the Shooting Star Press onto The Mack to get the pin and win. Congratulations to Son of Havoc of winning the 4 A Unique Opportunity Tournament! Great tournament and I hope they do it again next season.
Excellent match and congratulations to Son of Havoc for winning the 4 A Unique Opportunity Tournament!
After the match, Dario Cueto and Black Lotus came into the ring with two briefcases as they discuss to Son of Havoc about the “Unique Opportunity”. Dario Cueto gave Son of Havoc two choices. Son of Havoc could either win $250,000 or a contract for a shot at the Lucha Underground Championship at Ultima Lucha Tres.
Son of Havoc then told Dario Cueto that even if he give him $250,000,000, he would choose the contract so Son of Havoc has chosen the contract for a shot at the Lucha Underground Championship at Ultima Lucha Tres.
Son of Havoc celebrated with the case until Dario Cueto interrupted him and told him that he will keep the briefcase if he wins one more match. Dario Cueto will offer the opponent the cash if the opponent beats Son of Havoc and if Son of Havoc wins, he will keep the contract.
Famous B then came out and announced that he has a new client, Dr. Wagner Jr.! Dr. Wagner Jr. has arrived in Lucha Underground! Mark out moment! Dr. Wagner Jr. is a legend in lucha libre who has competed in CMLL and NJPW during the height of his career and is currently competing in AAA. Wow, Dr. Wagner Jr. is here in Lucha Underground and he’s aligned with Famous B! Now, call 423-GET-FAME so you can be famous!
Son of Havoc Vs. Dr. Wagner Jr. was a good match for the time it had. Dr. Wagner Jr. still has it in the ring despite being 50 years old currently. He looked good in this match as well as getting good heat from the crowd as the crowd was behind of Son of Havoc.
Despite the punishment, Son of Havoc kept fighting in order to keep his contract, but in the end, Dr. Wagner Jr. hit a Doctor Driver (Sitout scoop slam piledriver) onto Son of Havoc to get the pin and win. As a result, Dr. Wagner Jr. won $250,000 while Son of Havoc lost his contract.
Man, Dario Cueto is such a devil ruining Son of Havoc’s moment like that. However, that is why Dario Cueto is such a great villain in Lucha Underground because he’s El Jefe! I wonder with this match, we will get a feud between Son of Havoc and Dr. Wagner Jr. in Season 3 of Lucha Underground. I guess we’ll find out next season. An excellent start to Ultima Lucha Dos in my opinion and I can’t wait for next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
Good match for what it was and I can’t wait for part 2 of Ultima Lucha Dos!
Overall, excellent show that had excellent matches and great moments throughout the whole show. Now, comparing Ultima Lucha Dos with Ultima Lucha will come once Ultima Lucha Dos is done. Till then, we should enjoy Ultima Lucha Dos for the time being. Next week, part two of Ultima Lucha Dos will begin and I can’t wait! It should be great. If you haven’t already, please check out Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
