The Cruiserweight Classic on July 13, 2016 was a great show. CWC will showcase 32 cruiserweight wrestlers from around the world compete in a single elimination tournament in order to become the best cruiserweight wrestler in the world. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package showing the history of cruiserweight wrestling from WCW and WWE from past time to the current time with the participants of the Cruiserweight Classic. This was good as it shows the importance of cruiserweight wrestling and the wrestlers that came from it. Very well produced video package.

Now, before I talk about the show itself, I have to talk about the presentation for this show. The presentation for this show is fantastic. It feels very different from you what you have seen in WWE Raw, WWE Smackdown, and even NXT in that matter. The intro for the show was very cool with the superhero figures fighting each other with wrestling moves which is pretty awesome.

The commentary team for this show consists of Mauro Ranallo and Daniel Bryan. Mark out moment for both! Man, this is a deadly commentary team where Mauro Ranallo is one of the best commentators in not only wrestling, but in sports in general. Daniel Bryan is one of the best cruiserweight wrestlers ever. With the knowledge that both Mauro Ranallo and Daniel Bryan have for the commentary table in this show is incredible and they display that here on this show. Great commentary team.

Also, I love the graphics of the show with the two wrestlers looking like characters from a fighting game which looks awesome. Plus, I love how before each match, a promo package was given for every wrestler to talk about who they are and so forth which is nice as some people may not know about these guys so that is great. Plus, the ring looks awesome as it reminds me of EVOLVE. Nice touch there with the relationship they have. Great presentation for the show overall. Now, let’s get on with the matches!

Gran Metalik Vs. Alejandro Saez was a great match. I love how before the match, the referee have the two wrestlers near him as he ask them if they have any questions on the instructions they were told about in the back. Then after that, the referee then orders the wrestlers to shake hands if they want to so nice reference there to the Code of Honor in ROH. In this case, both Gran Metalik and Alejandro Saez shook hands here.

Gran Metalik is also known as Mascara Dorada in CMLL and NJPW who is one of the best luchadors in Mexico today. Mark out moment for Gran Metalik for being in the CWC! For more information on who Gran Metalik is, here’s a video about him.

Alejandro Saez is also known as Xtra Large who has competed in XNL which is a wrestling promotion in Chile. For more information on who Alejandro Saez is, here’s a video about him.

Like I said earlier, the match was great. Both men were very impressive here and these two have pretty good chemistry with each other.

I have watched Gran Metalik in CMLL and NJPW for a while now and he’s a very talented wrestler where he showcased that in this match with the use of the ring ropes to do his lucha libre moves. Great performance by Gran Metalik.

This is the first time I ever see Alejandro Saez in action here and what he displayed here was very impressive. His shooting star press from the apron to the floor was awesome. Great showing by Alejandro Saez.

Gran Metalik wins this match here and after the match, the referee grabs both Gran Metalik and Alejandro Saez to the center of the ring as he raises Gran Metalik’s hand and declares him the winner. Again, something different here and I like it as it gives more of a sports type of feel with the ending like that so that was great to see.

Great match and with that, Gran Metalik moves on to the second round of the Cruiserweight Classic.

HoHo Lun Vs. Ariya Daivari was a good match. Before the match, once again, the referee told the wrestlers to shake each others’ hand, but Ariya Daivari refused to shake HoHo Lun’s hand which got him some heel heat from the crowd. Well, it’s great to see some character and personality from the wrestlers or else we’ll get the same thing over and over again which will get boring so this was great to see.

HoHo Lun is known for his work in Pro Wrestling ZERO1 Hong Kong. Despite not knowing much about him, him representing China is awesome as I’m Chinese so mark out moment for a Chinese wrestler in the CWC! For more information on who HoHo Lun is, here’s a video about him.

Ariya Daivari is known for his work in DREAMWAVE Wrestling, F1RST Wrestling, and has competed in Ring Ka King from 2012. Mark out moment for Ariya Daivari for being in the CWC! For more information on who Ariya Daivari is, here’s a video about him.

Like I said earlier, this match was good as these two told a good story in the ring in my opinion.

This is the first time I ever see HoHo Lun in action here and what he displayed here was pretty solid. With more development and time, he could be something great in the future as he got cool dropkicks and a nice Bridging German Suplex. Solid performance by HoHo Lun here.

I have watched Ariya Daivari in action before as I saw his work in Ring Ka King and a bit of his work in DREAMWAVE Wrestling from time to time. I think he did well in this match as he got the crowd to boo him as he played the heel in this match in order for the crowd to support HoHo Lun. Ariya Daivari has definitely improved the last time I saw him so good performance by Ariya Daivari here.

HoHo Lun wins this match here as the referee calls the wrestlers in and raises HoHo Lun’s hand and declares him the winner.

Good match and with that, HoHo Lun moves on to the second round of the Cruiserweight Classic.

Clement Petiot Vs. Cedric Alexander was an excellent match. Mark out moment! Clement Petiot and Cedric Alexander shook hands with each other, but Clement Petiot ended up pulling Cedric Alexander’s hand close to him as Cedric Alexander told him to bring it. Again, more character and personality with the wrestlers here and I like it.

Clement Petiot is also known as Tristan Archer in PWS in the Netherlands as he’s considered to be one of the best French wrestlers in the world today and is trained by Lance Storm. For more information on who Clement Petiot is, here’s a video about him.

Cedric Alexander is known for his work in ROH and EVOLVE who is one of the rising stars in professional wrestling today. Mark out for Cedric Alexander for being in the CWC! For more information on who Cedric Alexander is, here’s a video about him.

Like I said earlier, this match was excellent as these two were evenly matched as one man could have gotten the victory over the other.

This is the first time I ever see Clement Petiot in action here and what he displayed here was pretty impressive. I love that he works a technical and brawling style which made him stand out from the other wrestlers in the tournament. His discus clothesline to Cedric Alexander was devastating. Great performance by Clement Petiot here.

I have watched Cedric Alexander in action before as I saw his work in ROH and EVOLVE as he keeps getting better and better each day and this match was no different. The high flying moves that Cedric Alexander did in this match was insane. Excellent performance by Cedric Alexander here.

Cedric Alexander wins this match here as the referee calls the wrestlers in and raises Cedric Alexander’s hand and declares him the winner as Clement Petiot threw down the referee’s hand. Again, more character and personality being shown here which I like.

Excellent match and with that, Cedric Alexander moves on to the second round of the Cruiserweight Classic.

Kota Ibushi Vs. Sean Maluta was an excellent match. Mark out moment! Kota Ibushi and Sean Maluta shook hands before the match.

Kota Ibushi is known for his work in NJPW and DDT who is one of the greatest high flyers in wrestling today. Mark out moment for Kota Ibushi being in the CWC! Man, with him being in this tournament, he’s going to do wonders as he is “The Golden Star”!

Sean Maluta is known as “The Samoan Dragon” and has competed in WXW who is the nephew of WWE Hall of Famer Afa. For more information on who Sean Maluta is, here’s a video about him.

Like I said earlier, this match was excellent as these two were evenly matched as either man could have won and move on to the second round of the tournament.

I have watched Kota Ibushi in action before as I saw his work in NJPW and DDT and he was incredible in this match. The high flying moves along with the strong style that he does in this match made him a vicious competitor in that ring. Excellent performance here by Kota Ibushi.

This is the first time I ever see Sean Maluta in action here and what he displayed here was very impressive. Even though he botched his somersault dive to the outside, he managed to continue the match and still looked great at the end. His superkick to Kota Ibushi was awesome. Great performance by Sean Maluta despite that one botch.

Kota Ibushi wins this match here as the referee calls the wrestlers in and raises Kota Ibushi’s hand and declared him the winner. Then Kota Ibushi and Sean Maluta shook hands and respected each other which is nice to see.

Excellent match and with that, Kota Ibushi moves on to the second round of the Cruiserweight Classic to face Cedric Alexander which should be an excellent match.

Overall, great show for the first show of the Cruiserweight Classic. Next week, we’ll see matches that involves Tajiri, Damian Slater, TJ Perkins, Da Mack, Mustafa Ali, Lince Dorado, Kenneth Johnson, and Akira Tozawa which should be great. Looking forward to next week’s show, it should be awesome.
