Ultima Lucha Dos 7/20/16 Review: Darkness Has Cero Miedo!

Ultima Lucha Dos on July 20, 2016 was an excellent show that had excellent matches and great moments throughout the show as the second season of Lucha Underground has ended. So sad… *Sniff* Anyway, we’ll cry about that later. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a recap of what happened throughout Lucha Underground Season 2 from the very first episode. This is a good way to remind people about what happened during that time in case they missed it or forgot about it. Plus, it’s a great way to show that this is the final show of the season which in a way, makes it very depressing… *Sniff* Anyway, we’ll cry about that later. Well done and well produced recap.

The video segment between Pentagon Jr. and Vampiro was great. Pentagon Jr. went to see Vampiro about his title match and Vampiro tells Pentagon Jr. that he is not ready for Matanza as he still has fear. Vampiro then tells Pentagon Jr. that he needs to destroy the man that is afraid in order to overcome fear. Vampiro then sends Pentagon Jr. into a cave as he fights phantom luchadores as Vampiro tells him to find the darkness. Vampiro and Pentagon Jr. then fight each other and once it’s done, Vampiro tells Pentagon Jr. that he is ready as the light must be extinguished in order to have Pentagon Dark take his place.

That whole video segment was fun to watch and I’m really liking where this new character of Pentagon Jr. is coming as we’ll probably a darker side of Pentagon Jr. which should be great. Can’t wait to see his transformation. Great video segment here.

Worldwide Underground Vs. Super Friends for the Lucha Underground Trios Championships was an excellent trios match. Mark out moment! Wow, both of these trios went out there and delivered a great and fun trios match where everyone looked excellent in the match.

Worldwide Underground were excellent in this match as they played the dirty heels very well. Their heel tactics were excellent here with the poke in the eyes, the low blows, pulling and punching the referee so Super Friends couldn’t get the win, and hitting Super Friends with the Trios title belts. They got a lot of heat which is great to see. Excellent performance by Worldwide Underground here playing as the heels in this match.

Super Friends were also impressive in this match as well. The chemistry between these three are incredible especially the chemistry between Fenix and Aero Star as they did a Rocket Launcher with Aero Star jumping off of Fenix’s shoulders to the outside on Worldwide Underground! Mark out moment! That was awesome and plus, despite getting screwed up by Worldwide Underground plenty of times in this match, they still managed to fight back and eventually get the upper hand on Worldwide Underground.

As the match was about to end, Johnny Mundo was about to hit The End of the World onto Fenix, but then Angelico came out in crutches as he stared down Johnny Mundo! Angelico is back! Mark out moment! As Jack Evans and PJ Black were distracted by Angelico, Drago and Aero Star took out Jack Evans and PJ Black to leave only Fenix and Johnny Mundo. Angelico then hit Johnny Mundo with his crutches as Super Friends finish Johnny Mundo off to get the pin and win the Lucha Underground Trios Championship! Mark out moment! After the match, while Super Friends were celebrating for their title win, Angelico left the Temple.

Congratulations to Super Friends on winning the Lucha Underground Trios Championships! With this win, Fenix is the first ever Triple Crown Champion in Lucha Underground while Drago and Aero Star won their first titles in Lucha Underground. Congratulations Super Friends, you guys deserve it!

It’s great to see Angelico back in Lucha Underground after being gone for a couple of months. It seems like he has recovered from his leg injury which is great to see because I missed Angelico in the ring. It seems like Johnny Mundo was the one that took out Angelico in Lucha Underground so if we’re going to get a feud between Angelico and Johnny Mundo in Season 3 of Lucha Underground, then I’m all in. Should be a great feud when it happens. Looking forward to it.

Excellent trios match, congratulations to Super Friends, and I’m interested to see what will happen next with Angelico and Johnny Mundo in Season 3 of Lucha Underground.

Dragon Azteca Jr. Vs. Black Lotus was a good match for what it was. Lucha Underground, I know I said this many times, but give entrances to your wrestlers! Please and thank you.

Black Lotus made her in-ring debut for Lucha Underground! Mark out moment! For those of you don’t know, Black Lotus is also known as Angela Fong or Savannah from her work in FCW and she’s a very talented women’s wrestler that could be great in the future. Great to see her back in the ring.

The match itself was good for what it was as both competitors were very even in this match and they looked good in the process.

As the match was going on, Pentagon Jr. came in and attacked both Dragon Azteca Jr. and Black Lotus as he attacked Dragon Azteca Jr. first which led to Dragon Azteca Jr. winning this match in disqualification. This is probably the best way to end the match as neither of them look weak in the process so I was fine with the finish.

After the match, Pentagon Jr. ended up breaking both Black Lotus’ and Dragon Azteca Jr.’s arm while Vampiro was smiling at the commentary table! Mark out moment! Man, I’m loving this new character of Pentagon Jr. already. Whether he’s a heel or a face with this character, I love how he’s just breaking everyone’s arms just to prove a point and I love it! Cero Miedo!

As a result, it seems like Black Lotus and Dragon Azteca Jr. will be out of action in Lucha Underground for a while even when Season 3 of Lucha Underground starts. That’s a shame as I am a fan of both competitors, but since this is for storyline purposes, there’s nothing I can do about it. Will be interesting to see what happens when those two come back.

Good match for what it was and I’m loving where this new character of Pentagon Jr. is going.

The promo that Pentagon Dark cut in the ring was excellent. Mark out moment! He said that at Ultima Lucha, he defeated his master Vampiro. Vampiro told him that he wasn’t ready for Matanza and that Matanza broke Pentagon Jr. as he felt pain and frustration which led to Vampiro teaching him once again as he went to a dark place to overcome his fears. He then said that he’s more stronger than ever before.

He then said that Ian Hodgkinson is dead as Vampiro replaced him. He also said that Pentagon Jr. is dead as well because now he’s stronger than ever as Pentagon Dark. Pentagon Dark then said he’s not afraid of anything and will destroy Matanza because he is Pentagon Dark and he has Cero Miedo!

Wow, just wow. This was an excellent promo by Pentagon Dark here as he evolved his character from Pentagon Jr. to Pentagon Dark. Now, he’s more stronger and darker than ever. I love it! He is now ready for Matanza and we’ll talk about that next.

Excellent promo by Pentagon Dark and now let’s get onto the match!

Matanza Vs. Pentagon Dark for the Lucha Underground Championship was an excellent match. Mark out moment! With Matanza being the one that took out Pentagon Dark for a while, you know that Pentagon Dark is out to get revenge and he got it somewhat. I was also very surprised that this match didn’t main event the show as this match was for the Lucha Underground Championship, but after seeing what happened after the show, I could see why this match didn’t main event the show and we’ll get to that later once we talk about the main event.

Matanza was very impressive in this match as he got to showcase his strength and power with the impressive suplexes. Not only that, Matanza managed to pull out a standing moonsault and a standing shooting star press which is nice to see. Nice mix of agility and power by Matanza here as he delivered an excellent performance in this match.

However, the MVP of this match goes to Pentagon Dark as he pretty much dominated Matanza throughout the whole match. I love how the moment the match started, he did a somersault dive to the outside onto Matanza which was very cool to see. Also, his front-flip piledriver onto Matanza was insane, but awesome at the same time. Excellent performance by Pentagon Dark here as he went to a side that he never went before and it benefited him in this match.

The ending of the match came when Vampiro gave Pentagon Dark a barbed wire baseball bat as he was about to use it onto Matanza, but Dario Cueto prevented him from using it. This led to Pentagon Dark going after Dario Cueto and he was about to break his arm until Matanza hit Pentagon Dark with the barbed wire baseball bat behind the referee’s back followed by the Wrath of the Gods to get the pin and retain his Lucha Underground Championship. Despite the loss, Pentagon Dark looked excellent in this match and he took Matanza to the limit. It made neither man look weak in this match as both men look strong during the match so props to both of them in this match.

After the match, Vampiro tried to check on Pentagon Dark, but then Pentagon Dark didn’t want anything to do with Vampiro as he left the ring. It seemed like Pentagon Dark was pissed at Vampiro and I don’t blame him since he was the one that costed him the match against Matanza. This could possibly lead to another Vampiro and Pentagon Dark, but only time will tell. Either way, I’m intrigued and I’m interested to see where this goes.

Excellent match and I’m interested to see what happens next between Vampiro and Pentagon Dark.

Ivelisse Vs. Taya was a good women’s match. Both of these women went out there and delivered a good women’s match to show who was the better woman in Lucha Underground.

Ivelisse had an impressive showing in this match as she was trying to do whatever it takes to beat Taya. Her dive from the bleachers to the outside onto Taya was very cool to see. Good performance by Ivelisse here.

Taya was also impressive in this match as she did everything in her power to beat Ivelisse down. Unfortunately, she didn’t do much in the match, but what she did in this match was good as she got herself heel heat from the crowd which is nice to see.

The ending of the match came when Ivelisse was about to finish Ivelisse off, but then lights went out, and when they came back on, Catrina appeared and hit Ivelisse with a lifting butterfly hold transitioned into a guillotine drop. The lights went out again, but Catrina disappeared as Taya finished Ivelisse off with the Northern Lights suplex followed by a double foot stomp to get the pin and win over Ivelisse. Well, the finish made sense as Ivelisse and Catrina did confront each other backstage where Ivelisse kind of pissed off Catrina which is why Catrina attacked her. Even though this was another finish that had interference in it, it helped build up a feud and storyline for Season 3 of Lucha Underground so I was fine with it.

After the match, Catrina reappeared in the ring and promised that death will come to everyone, even Ivelisse as she licked her with the lick of death. So it seems like we’ll be getting a feud between Ivelisse Vs. Catrina in Season 3 of Lucha Underground. Should be good as these two have a long history with each other. I don’t know how the match will turn out as Catrina is not really that good of a wrestler, but I’m willing to see how it goes and it should be a good feud for both women.

Good women’s match and I can’t wait to see the feud between Ivelisse and Catrina to start on Season 3 of Lucha Underground.

We then get a video package on the feud between Prince Puma and Rey Mysterio. This is good as it helps build up the main event later on the show which should be excellent. Anyway, let’s get onto the match!

Prince Puma Vs. Rey Mysterio was an excellent match. Mark out moment! Wow, just wow. After seeing this match, I could understand why this match was the main event of the show and not the Lucha Underground Championship because this match was fantastic.

Before the match, they both shook hands by showing sportsmanship to each other. This was great to see as it shows that they’re still babyfaces and that no matter wins, they’ll be the better man on that night.

Prince Puma really shined in this match as he took Rey Mysterio to his limit. Prince Puma pretty much did everything he could to beat Rey Mysterio to the point where he even used Rey Mysterio’s signature move with the 619 (Tiger feint kick to the head of an opponent draped over the second rope) onto Rey Mysterio. Excellent performance by Prince Puma as he was the star of this match.

However, Rey Mysterio did excellent in this match as well as he made Prince Puma fought really hard in this match and Rey Mysterio still showed that he has what it takes to be the best.

The ending of the match came when Rey Mysterio hit a 619 onto Prince Puma followed by a springboard hurricanrana pin for the win. This was a dream match that a lot of people have including myself and it delivered tremendously. Despite Prince Puma losing this match, he looked excellent in this match and he showed that he can hang with the king of lucha libre which is Rey Mysterio and Rey Mysterio proved that he is still one of the best luchadores in wrestling today. Excellent performance by both men, magnificent.

After the match, Prince Puma and Rey Mysterio embraced each other and then Rey Mysterio then told Prince Puma that the people in the temple are his people as he left the ring to Prince Puma. Man, such great respect from Rey Mysterio. Despite winning the match, he ended up giving the spotlight to Prince Puma which was very nice of him. A lot of respect from Rey Mysterio there. After this loss to Rey Mysterio, I wonder where Prince Puma goes from here. I guess we’ll find out Season 3 of Lucha Underground.

Excellent match and I’m interested to see what will happen next with Rey Mysterio and Prince Puma next in Season 3 of Lucha Underground.

As Matt Striker and Vampiro were about to end the show, Pentagon Dark came from behind the commentary table as he superkicked Matt Striker and beat up Vampiro. Pentagon Dark then brought Vampiro to the ring as he used the barbed wire baseball bat to make Vampiro bleed in the middle of the ring. He kept using the barbed wire baseball bat on Vampiro’s head, kicked him in the face, and then licked his blood before talking on the mic.

Pentagon Dark told Vampiro that he’s no longer his master because he’s the master now. He then humiliated Vampiro more by kicking him in the head multiple of times as well as using the barbed wire baseball bat on his head, and licking his blood.

Wow, everything that Pentagon Dark did here was excellent. Mark out moment! I love that he’s trying to prove that he doesn’t need Vampiro and he has surpassed Vampiro in every way as the student beats the master. As a result of this, I expect them to have a match against each other in Season 3 of Lucha Underground. Their first match together at Ultima Lucha was excellent so I expect another excellent match between these two in the near future. Looking forward to it. Cero Miedo!

Excellent segment here and I can’t wait to see how Vampiro respond to Pentagon Dark’s actions in Season 3 of Lucha Underground.

The video segment with Dario Cueto was good. We see Dario Cueto getting arrested by the police as he was taken to the police van. As the police van was driving along, Dario Cueto ended up looking up and smiled as the show ends with, “To Be Continued”.

Hey! You can’t arrest Dario Cueto like that! I mean granted, he did murder Mr. Cisco, but come on, he’s “El Jefe” Dario Cueto! Show the man respect police!

In all seriousness, I’m very intrigued on why Dario Cueto smiled at the end even though he was arrested. Maybe he has some kind of plan or maybe this was the plan after all so he could execute his scheme. I don’t know the answer to that, but I am intrigued and I want to know what happens next. However, we have to wait until Season 3 of Lucha Underground which is early 2017. *Sigh* Good video segment to end the show as it made people want to see what happens next when they return early next year.

Overall, excellent show that had excellent matches and great moments throughout the whole show. Now, do I think Ultima Lucha Dos is better than Ultima Lucha? In my opinion, I thought Ultima Lucha Dos was better than Ultima Lucha as it had more excellent matches and memorable moments compared to Ultima Lucha. However, both shows were still excellent and I suggest to watch both if you guys haven’t already yet as both of those shows are worth of your time so please, go watch them, you won’t be disappointed. Well, this is it, no more Lucha Underground until early 2017 for Season 3. It was fun while it lasted and it was a pretty good season this season, but it’s going to be sad that there’s no more Lucha Underground for the time being. *Sniff* If you haven’t already, please check out Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. See you all again for Season 3 of Lucha Underground in early 2017, till then, it’s been fun and see you all then. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
