NXT 8/10/16 Review: The King Messes With The Machine

NXT on August 10, 2016 was a good show that is building up NXT Back to Brooklyn next week. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a backstage segment between William Regal and Bobby Roode and it was good. William Regal and Bobby Roode both came out from the office and Bobby Roode thanked William Regal for the meeting as Bobby Roode showed excitement while William Regal left to head to the ring for the contract signing.

I wonder what Bobby Roode is being excited about for. I guess we’ll find out later on the show. Good backstage segmeent here.

The contract signing between Asuka and Bayley by William Regal was great. William Regal called out both Asuka and Bayley to the ring as both women make their entrances to the ring.

Bayley said that she has been fighting in NXT for three and a half years and has face some of the best women’s wrestlers in NXT. She said she was the underdog during those tough times and despite that, she overcame it at NXT Brooklyn when she became NXT Women’s Champion. She then said that her nightmare came when she lost the NXT Women’s Championship to Asuka at NXT Dallas because she wasn’t ready for Asuka back then. However, she said she is ready now and she said she will become the first ever 2x NXT Women’s Champion as she signed the contract.

Asuka then told Bayley that she doesn’t have what it takes to beat her, but she respected Bayley as she extended her hand towards Bayley. Bayley then told Asuka that she won’t shake her hand and she told Asuka to sign that contract before she’s lying on the mat again just like her last contract signing.

Asuka then signed the contract and extended her hand towards Bayley again expect this time, Bayley slapped the hand away as she was leaving the ring. Bayley then ended up back in the ring as both Asuka and Bayley stared at each other. Asuka then raised her championship towards Bayley’s face before leaving the ring.

It seems like the feud between Asuka and Bayley has increased here and I’m loving it. Bayley is trying to prove that she could beat Asuka and Asuka doesn’t think Bayley can beat her. I’ll be looking forward to their match at NXT Back to Brooklyn which should be excellent. Looking forward to it.

Great contract signing and I’m looking forward to Asuka Vs. Bayley for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT Back to Brooklyn.

Just a reminder that Relentless by Mice & Men will be a theme for NXT Back to Brooklyn which is a great song. Looking forward to NXT Back to Brooklyn next week. Should be a great show.

Adrian Nailz & Rob Ryzin Vs. Authors of Pain was a good tag team squash match. Great to see Adrian Nailz and Rob Ryzin in NXT again. Unfortunately, they got destroyed by Authors of Pain here.

Authors of Pain were impressive in this match as they got to show their strength and agility. Their double powerbomb was cool to see as they got the win over Adrian Nailz and Rob Ryzin with the Russian legsweep/clothesline combination on Rob Ryzin.

After the match, Authors of Pain continued to attack Adrian Nailz and Rob Ryzin until TM-61 came out and tried to defend Adrian Nailz and Rob Ryzin after what happened between those two tag teams two weeks ago. Eventually, Authors of Pain got the upper hand on TM-61 as they stood tall in the end.

By looking at this, it seems like we may be getting a feud between TM-61 and Authors of Pain which is fine by me as I think it could be a good feud for both teams. Unfortunately, I don’t think their match will take place at NXT Back to Brooklyn, but I expect them to have a match at the TV taping in Brooklyn, we’ll see.

Good tag team squash match and I’m looking forward to the TM-61 and Authors of Pain feud if it happens.

The backstage interview with Shinsuke Nakamura by Andrea D’Marco was good. Andrea D’Marco asks Shinsuke Nakamura about his match with Samoa Joe at NXT Back to Brooklyn and Shinsuke Nakamura responds with that he’ll find him when he wants to as he pretends to find Samoa Joe while leaving.

Again, this shows the character and charisma that Shinsuke Nakamura has which is awesome to see. Looking forward to Samoa Joe Vs. Shinsuke Nakamura at NXT Back to Brooklyn for the NXT Championship. Should be an excellent match. Good backstage interview here.

Andrade “Cien” Almas Vs. Angelo Dawkins was a good squash match. It’s cool to see Angelo Dawkins getting his entrance and character shown which is nice to see. However, he couldn’t do much against Andrade “Cien” Almas.

Andrade “Cien” Almas did well in this match as he got the win over Angelo Dawkins with the hammerlock DDT. It’s cool to see that Andrade “Cien” Almas is using a new finisher, but it’s nothing compared to his Brillante Driver (Schoolboy Suplex). However, it’s still a cool finisher so I’m fine with it.

After the match, Bobby Roode came down to the ring and congratulated Andrade “Cien” Almas, but not for his win. Regardless, a win is a win and that’s what counts according to Bobby Roode. He then congratulated Andrade “Cien” Almas for making NXT Back to Brooklyn more glorious because at NXT Back to Brooklyn, it will be Andrade “Cien” Almas Vs. Bobby Roode! Mark out moment! Andrade “Cien” Almas then nodded and stared down Bobby Roode as Bobby Roode left the ring.

So we’re going to get Andrade “Cien” Almas Vs. Bobby Roode at NXT Back to Brooklyn?! Awesome! It’s a dream match here to me as it’s one of the best luchadores today against one of the best heels in wrestling today in my opinion. This should be a great match and I’m looking forward to it.

Good squash match and excellent post-match segment. Looking forward to Andrade “Cien” Almas Vs. Bobby Roode at NXT Back to Brooklyn.

Just a reminder that Giant by Banks & Steelz will be a theme for NXT Back to Brooklyn which is a great song. One more week until NXT Back to Brooklyn, should be great.

The backstage segment between William Regal and Austin Aries was great. Austin Aries is shown backstage with William Regal in his office as he closes William Regal’s laptop to get his attention. While Austin Aries is holding an orange in his hand, he talks about how great NXT Back to Brooklyn would be if Austin Aries was on it because for him, it’s not great as everyone has a match expect him.

William Regal then agrees with Austin Aries that he should have an opponent at NXT Back to Brooklyn and that opponent will be No Way Jose. Austin Aries isn’t very happy about it, but takes it anyway as he leaves with his orange.

So it seems like after about a month of build between No Way Jose and Austin Aries, their match will happen at NXT Back to Brooklyn. Should be a good match and it will determine whether or not if No Way Jose can hang with the top guys like Austin Aries. Also, what is up with Austin Aries and fruits? Oh well, at least he’s eating healthy so that’s good. Great backstage segment here.

Liv Morgan Vs. Billie Kay was a good women’s match. Great to see both Liv Morgan and Billie Kay getting spotlighted more which is great to see.

Billie Kay did well in this match trying to take down Liv Morgan at every point in the match and Liv Morgan did well in this match too showcasing her skills in the ring.

In the end, Billie Kay hit Liv Morgan with the big boot to the face for the pin and win. Still not a fan of Billie Kay’s finisher with the big boot and I wish she used her sitout uranage finisher from SHIMMER, but it is what it is. Glad to see that Billie Kay is getting a push in NXT and I hope she does well in the future.

Good women’s match and I’m interested to see what’s next for Billie Kay and Liv Morgan in NXT.

We then see Rich Swann, Jack Gallagher, and Noam Dar at ringside! Mark out for all three of them! Can’t wait to see Rich Swann back in NXT and I hope to see Jack Gallagher and Noam Dar get signed with NXT as well. For more information on them, check out my CWC reviews. Anyway, back to the show.

We then get a recap of Johnny Gargano Vs. Tommaso Ciampa at the Cruiserweight Classic last week which was an excellent match. This is good as it shows what happened at the Cruiserweight Classic last week in case people missed it or forgot about it. If you want my thoughts on the match, please check out my CWC review on the show. Also, it ties into the next segment which I’ll talk about next.

The backstage segment between Wrestling Killers and William Regal was good. William Regal praises Wrestling Killers for their match at the Cruiserweight Classic, but he’s worried about them possibly breaking up because they’re going to face The Revival at NXT Back to Brooklyn for the NXT Tag Team Championships. Tommaso Ciampa then tells William Regal that families fight, but they stick together and Johnny Gargano says that history will repeat itself when they will defeat The Revival and become the new NXT Tag Team Champions.

So it’s official. It will be The Revival Vs. Wrestling Killers for the NXT Tag Team Championships at NXT Back to Brooklyn. Awesome! That should be a great tag team match when those two teams go at it for the NXT Tag Team Championships at NXT Back to Brooklyn. Looking forward to it. Good backstage segment here.

We then get a vignette of Ember Moon once again as she’ll make her NXT debut at NXT Back to Brooklyn. Looking forward to her debut at NXT Back to Brooklyn and I can’t wait.

Wrestling Killers Vs. Tucker Knight & Patrick Clark was a good tag team match. This was a warm up match for Wrestling Killers as they will face The Revival for the NXT Tag Team Championships at NXT Back to Brooklyn.

Tucker Knight & Patrick Clark did well here in this match trying to showcase themselves, but it was Wrestling Killers that dominated the match as they took control most of the match as Wrestling Killers hit the superkick/running knee strike to the back of the head combination on Tucker Knight for the pin and win.

Wrestling Killers are looking strong heading into NXT Back to Brooklyn. The only problem I have with this is The Revival not showing up after Wrestling Killers’ match to hype up their match, but other than that, it did its job well. It will be interesting to see how well they do against The Revival at NXT Back to Brooklyn. Looking forward to it.

Good tag team match and I’m looking forward to The Revival Vs. Wrestling Killers for the NXT Tag Team Championships at NXT Back to Brooklyn.

We then get a recap of Hideo Itami‘s return last week in NXT as he will be in action next week. Awesome. Looking forward to it.

The backstage interview with Mojo Rawley by Charly Caruso was good. Mojo Rawley is warming up backstage for his match against Samoa Joe until Charly Caruso arrives and asks Mojo Rawley about the match. Mojo Rawley says he’s upset and he’s going to bring the fight to Samoa Joe as it’s not about getting hype, it’s about getting even.

It’s great to see to a serious side of Mojo Rawley here since he’s usually positive so this is great to see. It looks like he’s ready to face Samoa Joe which we will be talking about next so let’s go! Good backstage interview here.

Mojo Rawley Vs. Samoa Joe was a good match. After what happened last week between Mojo Rawley and Samoa Joe, it makes sense for this match to happen and both men did well here.

Mojo Rawley was impressive here as this is probably his best singles match in NXT to date. His full nelson slam to Samoa Joe was cool to see. Despite that, Samoa Joe was too big of a monster for Mojo Rawley to handle as he dominated Mojo Rawley throughout the match.

The ending of the match came when Samoa Joe made Mojo Rawley tap out to the Coquina Clutch. Despite Mojo Rawley losing here, he looked good in defeat as this was his best singles match in NXT to this date. This is probably Mojo Rawley’s last match in NXT and if it is, I just want to say thank you Mojo Rawley for everything you have done in NXT and I wish you the best on Smackdown Live!

After the match, Samoa Joe continued to punish Mojo Rawley to prove a statement to Shinsuke Nakamura until Shinsuke Nakamura showed up from the ramp and walked down the ring. As Shinsuke Nakamura was making his way to the ring, security came in trying to separate the two as Shinsuke Nakamura started to play mind games with Samoa Joe as he pulled his nose and slapped him in the face as Samoa Joe got pissed off and Shinsuke Nakamura was loving it.

Again, this shows the character and charisma that Shinsuke Nakamura which is awesome to see. However, despite Shinsuke Nakamura having fun with Samoa Joe, he now has to face an angry Samoan in Samoa Joe as he’s going to kill spree mode on Shinsuke Nakamura at NXT Back to Brooklyn. This type of interaction made me even more excited for their match at NXT Back to Brooklyn now which should be an excellent match. Looking forward to it.

Good match and great post-match segment here as I’ll be looking forward to seeing Samoa Joe Vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for the NXT Championship at NXT Back to Brooklyn and thank you Mojo Rawley!

Overall, good show that is building up NXT Back to Brooklyn next week. Next week, we’re going to have Hideo Itami returning to action which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
