NXT

NXT on August 31, 2016 was a good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a backstage segment between Samoa Joe and William Regal and it was good. William Regal is in the training room with Samoa Joe and his trainer as the trainer talks about Samoa Joe’s jaw injury at NXT Brooklyn II. The trainer says Samoa Joe has other injuries so he won’t be clear to wrestle anytime soon. Samoa Joe then walks away looking upset as William Regal looks on.

It’s a shame that Samoa Joe’s injuries are a lot more serious than I thought. I really hope he recovers from this as I would love to see him against Shinsuke Nakamura again in the near future. Get well soon Samoa Joe! Good backstage segment here.

The commentary team for NXT for this show are Tom Phillips and Corey Graves despite Corey Graves being on Raw. It’s still great to see Corey Graves in NXT as his commentary in NXT for the past two years has been great in my opinion. Glad that he’s staying for the time being until NXT finds a new color commentator to replace him.

Tye Dillinger Vs. Buddy Murphy was a good match. Buddy Murphy is once again solo here and it’s sadden to see that BAM Factor is finished at this point, but I’m wishing the best of luck of Buddy Murphy’s singles run in NXT.

Buddy Murphy did well in this match as he got to showcase more of his charisma and in-ring ability. The way he mocked Tye Dillinger with his taunt and flicking his hair on Tye Dillinger was nice to see. His diving double knee drop on Tye Dillinger looked devastating. Tye Dillinger also did well in this match as he was being himself in that ring, but this time as a babyface it seems like. Finally.

The ending of the match came when Tye Dillinger hit the Tye Breaker on Buddy Murphy for the pin and win. Yes! Tye Dillinger got another win! Mark out moment! It’s about time that Tye Dillinger is getting a push in NXT and I hope this continues because Tye Dillinger is great. Ten!

Good match and I hope to see the push of Tye Dillinger in NXT continue.

We then get a recap on what happened at NXT Brooklyn II and the Cruiserweight Classic last week as Johnny Gargano seemed to hurt his leg during those matches. This is good as it shows what’s happening with Johnny Gargano at the moment and it also ties in with the next segment.

The segment with Tommaso Ciampa and The Revival was great. Dasha Fuentes was interviewing Tommaso Ciampa about Johnny Gargano’s condition and Tommaso Ciampa told Dasha Fuentes that Johnny Gargano has heart and he will be alright.

As Tommaso Ciampa was about to speak again, The Revival showed up as Tommaso Ciampa began to attack The Revival as the fight spilled out into the commentary area. The Revival then got the upper hand on Tommaso Ciampa as they beat him up at ringside. Officials began to come in and tried to stop The Revival, but The Revival continued their attack on Tommaso Ciampa.

The Revival then got on the mic and said that they’ll make an example out of Tommaso Ciampa as they hit the Shatter Machine on Tommaso Ciampa, then they left.

Man, The Revival means business now and I’m liking where they’re going with their characters. It seems like the feud between The Revival and DIY is far from over from this segment. I expect another match between these two teams down the road to settle the score once and for all. Looking forward to it when the time comes.

Great segment here and I’m looking forward to The Revival Vs. DIY down the road if they’re heading in that route.

Kenneth Crawford Vs. Steve Cutler was a good match. It was great to see these two guys that haven’t been showcased much in NXT to get showcased in this match. It was nice to see the entrances of both men here which is good.

While Steve Cutler was making his entrance, we see a promo video of him and it was good. He talked about he wanted some attention from the NXT fans and he has an opportunity to prove it as he needs a much needed victory. A good idea of who Steve Cutler is as a character and he managed to show his mic skills. Good promo by Steve Cutler here.

Steve Cutler was impressive in this match as he got to showcase his character, charisma, and in-ring ability here. I like how during the match he tried to get himself heel heat to help put over his opponent as well as himself which is nice to see. Kenneth Crawford was impressive here as well as he managed to get the crowd behind him during the match. His standing shooting star press was well executed. Good performance by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Steve Cutler hit a Fisherman Michinoku Driver on Kenneth Crawford for the pin and win. Very nice finisher from Steve Cutler there. Looked devastating. It seems like Steve Cutler is getting a push in NXT which is fine by me because the more stars in NXT, the better. Would also like to see more of Kenneth Crawford as well as he was impressive here as well.

Good match and I’m looking forward to see the progression of Steve Cutler and Kenneth Crawford in NXT.

The backstage interview with Hideo Itami by Dasha Fuentes was good. Hideo Itami was dissing Austin Aries and he thought that Austin Aries was a real man, but instead, he’s just a big baby. Hideo Itami then said that he’s going to make Austin Aries go to sleep again.

So it seems like this is the reason why Hideo Itami attacked Austin Aries at NXT Brooklyn II. I wish there was a better reason, but it’s a reason nonetheless. Looking forward to the feud between Hideo Itami and Austin Aries. It should be great. Good backstage interview here.

We then get highlights of Shinsuke Nakamura Vs. Sami Zayn at NXT Dallas as Shinsuke Nakamura will speak later on the show. This is good as it shows the development of Shinsuke Nakamura since arriving to NXT and it’s a great way to advertise him as he will appear later on the show. Looking forward to see what Shinsuke Nakamura has to say. YeaOh!

We then get the same vignette once again with the word “sanity“. Who could it be? Still thinking Eric Young, but who do you think it will be? Either way, I’m intrigued.

We then get a vignette of TM 61 as they will be in action on NXT next week. This is good as it shows who TM 61 are and their desire to becoming NXT Tag Team Champions. Looking forward to seeing them in action next week. They are The Mighty… and The Mighty Don’t Kneel!

No Way Jose Vs. Angelo Dawkins was a good match. It’s great to see that Angelo Dawkins is getting an entrance, theme, and titantron which is nice to see because Angelo Dawkins has a lot of potential to be great in NXT.

Angelo Dawkins was impressive here in this match as he got to show some charisma in the ring and he has gotten over with the cooking taunt as the crowd is starting to do it which is nice to see. No Way Jose was being his normal self here being charismatic as well as being serious in the ring. Good performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when No Way Jose hit the Wrist-lock Full Nelson Slam on Angelo Dawkins for the pin and win. It seems like No Way Jose is back being his old self again as he danced with the crowd after the match. Will be interesting to see who No Way Jose will feud with next in NXT and I hope NXT push Angelo Dawkins in the near future. No Way Jose!

Good match and I’m interested what No Way Jose will do next in NXT. Also, NXT, please push Angelo Dawkins!

The backstage segment with Andrade “Cien” Almas and Austin Aries with Dasha Fuentes was good. Dasha Fuentes was asking Andrade “Cien” Almas on how he will rebound from his first loss in NXT.

Before Andrade “Cien” Almas was about to speak, Austin Aries interrupted him and he’s frustrated about how other people are taking his spotlight. Austin Aries then talked about how he beat No Way Jose at NXT Brooklyn II, but people are talking about Hideo Itami expect he’s not sure as his eardrum is ruptured from the GTS. Andrade “Cien” Almas then spoke to Austin Aries in Spanish as Austin Aries didn’t understand what he was saying to him so Austin Aries told Andrade “Cien” Almas to speak to him in English. Andrade “Cien” Almas then talked to Austin Aries in English, but he doesn’t hear what he said as he left.

Wow, Austin Aries is getting a lot of feuds here in NXT after his feud with No Way Jose. First Hideo Itami and now Andrade “Cien” Almas. It will be interesting to see if we’ll get a match between Austin Aries and Andrade “Cien” Almas in NXT and if so, that should be a great match. Good backstage segment here.

We then get highlights of Shinsuke Nakamura Vs. Finn Balor on July 13, 2016, as Shinsuke Nakamura will speak later on the show. This is good as it shows the development of Shinsuke Nakamura since arriving to NXT and it’s a great way to advertise him as he will appear later on the show. Looking forward to see what Shinsuke Nakamura has to say. YeaOh!

Just a reminder that NXT is coming to New Zealand and Australia for the first time on December 5 to December 15. NXT is taking over and I’m loving it!

Liv Morgan Vs. Aliyah was a solid women’s match. It was great to see these two women that haven’t been showcased much in NXT to get showcased in this match. It was nice to see the entrances of both women here which is good.

Liv Morgan was impressive in this match as she got to showcase her skills in the ring. Her comeback moves were cool to see especially with that bulldog followed by the kip-up. Aliyah was also impressive in this match as she also got to showcase her in-ring skills. Love the technical style that Aliyah brought in this match which is nice to see. Solid performances by both women here.

The ending of the match came when Liv Morgan hit a spinning heel kick on Aliyah for the pin and win. That finisher was kind of weak to me as it came out of nowhere and it wasn’t executed very well. Hopefully, she will execute it better on her next match, but we’ll see. However, it’s great to see that Liv Morgan is getting wins on NXT which is nice to see as I think Liv Morgan has a lot of potential so good for her. Would love to see more of Aliyah as well. Ba!

Solid women’s match and I’m looking forward to seeing the progression of Liv Morgan and Aliyah in NXT.

The backstage segment between No Way Jose and Bobby Roode by Dasha Fuentes was good. Dasha Fuentes interviewed No Way Jose and No Way Jose said that he has a heart of a lion and the fiesta he brings to NXT will take him to the top. Bobby Roode then came in and told No Way Jose that he has nice hair as he left.

Are we getting a possible feud with No Way Jose and Bobby Roode in NXT? If so, another great opponent for No Way Jose to feud with to help develop his character. It should be interesting to see. Good backstage segment here.

We then get highlights of Shinsuke Nakamura Vs. Samoa Joe on NXT Brooklyn II as Shinsuke Nakamura will speak next on the show. This is good as it shows the development of Shinsuke Nakamura since arriving to NXT and it’s a great way to advertise him as he will appear next on the show. Looking forward to see what Shinsuke Nakamura has to say. YeaOh!

The promo segment from Shinsuke Nakamura was good. Shinsuke Nakamura talked about how he has accomplished his goals in NXT. He said when he was in Japan, he wanted to become the best and the only place to be the best is NXT. He faced guys like Sami Zayn, Finn Balor, and Samoa Joe, and beat them. Despite being sore from his match at NXT Brooklyn II, he’s now the NXT Champion.

He then talked about how he won titles before, but this title meant a lot to him. He then respected Samoa Joe, but Samoa Joe’s era is over as it’s now the Era of Strong Style.

Despite not knowing a lot of English, Shinsuke Nakamura managed to get his point across very well and I’m interested to see who will face Shinsuke Nakamura next for the NXT Championship if Samoa Joe doesn’t recover from his injuries. YeaOh!

Good promo segment to end the show as I’m interested to see who will face Shinsuke Nakamura for the NXT Championship until Samoa Joe recovers.

Overall, good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we’re going to have TM 61 in action as well as having an interview with Asuka which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
