The Cruiserweight Classic on August 31, 2016 was an excellent show. CWC will showcase 32 cruiserweight wrestlers from around the world compete in a single elimination tournament in order to become the best cruiserweight wrestler in the world. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package showing Kota Ibushi, Gran Metalik, Rich Swann, TJ Perkins, Brian Kendrick, Akira Tozawa, Noam Dar, and Zack Sabre Jr. moving on to the quarter-finals in the Cruiserweight Classic. This is good as it shows what happened with the previous weeks in the Cruiserweight Classic in case people missed or forgot about it. Well produced video package here.

We then see a vignette of Gran Metalik and it’s a good vignette. Gran Metalik talks about how he’s happy to be in the Cruiserweight Classic and that he thanks the fans for supporting him in this tournament. The vignette also show highlights of his first round and second round match against Alejandro Saez and Tajiri.

This is good as it shows who Gran Metalik is as a wrestler and his motivations within the Cruiserweight Classic. Whether Gran Metalik wins this tournament or not, I hope to see him get a NXT contract. Good vignette here.

We then see a vignette of Akira Tozawa and it’s a good vignette. Akira Tozawa talks about how his dream is to be in WWE and that he has the best German suplex in wrestling today. The vignette also show highlights of his first and second round match against Kenneth Johnson and Jack Gallagher.

This is good as it shows who Akira Tozawa is as a wrestler and how well he did in the Cruiserweight Classic. Whether Akira Tozawa wins this tournament or not, I hope he gets a contract with NXT. Good vignette here.

Gran Metalik Vs. Akira Tozawa was an excellent match. Mark out moment! Before the match, both Gran Metalik and Akira Tozawa shook hands.

Both men were very even in this match as either man could have gone on to the semi-finals of the Cruiserweight Classic and it would be believable. The crowd even chanted, “Fight Forever” which shows how excellent this match was.

Gran Metalik was excellent here as he got to show his lucha libre style in this match. His suicide dive and his second rope somersault dive over the top rope were beautiful. Excellent performance by Gran Metalik here.

Akira Tozawa was also excellent in this match as he got to show his strong style in this match. His suicide dive and his German suplexes were devastating. He also showed some charisma in the ring as well which is nice to see. Excellent performance by Akira Tozawa here.

Gran Metalik wins this match as the referee calls the wrestlers in and raises Gran Metalik’s hand and declares him the winner. After the match, both Gran Metalik and Akira Tozawa shook hands and hugged each other in signs of sportsmanship. This was nice to see after an amazing match between these two.

Excellent match and with that, Gran Metalik moves on to the semi-finals of the Cruiserweight Classic.

We then see a vignette of Brian Kendrick and it’s a good vignette. Brian Kendrick talks about how this could possibly be his last chance to prove himself and if he loses, it’s over for him. The vignette also show highlights of his first round and second round match against Raul Mendoza and Tony Nese.

This is good as it shows who Brian Kendrick is as a character and it makes you want to support him because this could be his last chance of glory if he doesn’t win. Even though I don’t think Brian Kendrick will win in this tournament, I expect him to get signed and he’ll probably be on Raw for the Cruiserweight division. Good vignette here.

We then see a vignette of Kota Ibushi and it’s a good vignette. Kota Ibushi talks about how he loves professional wrestling and that he’s going to win this tournament because he loves what he does. The vignette also show highlights of his first round and second match against Sean Maluta and Cedric Alexander.

This is good as it shows who Kota Ibushi is as a character and how well he did in the Cruiserweight Classic. I think Kota Ibushi is going to go very far in this tournament and possibly even winning the tournament. Good vignette here.

Brian Kendrick Vs. Kota Ibushi was an excellent match. Mark out moment! Before the match, both Brian Kendrick and Kota Ibushi shook hands.

Both men were very even in this match that either man could have walked out the victor.

Brian Kendrick was excellent in this match as he got to show a lot of heart in this match. Despite what Kota Ibushi did to Brian Kendrick throughout the entire match, Brian Kendrick found way to keep fighting despite the punishment. A lot of heart there. I also like how he went after Kota Ibushi’s neck throughout the match which is excellent in-ring psychology right there. Not only that, his Argentine Backbreaker Slam on Kota Ibushi looked devastating. Excellent performance by Brian Kendrick here.

Kota Ibushi was excellent in this match as well as he showed more of his wrestling style in this match. His springboard moonsault to the outside on Brian Kendrick and his German suplex from the second rope as Brian Kendrick was on the apron were beautiful. Kota Ibushi also sold his neck well as Brian Kendrick worked on his neck throughout the match. Excellent performance by Kota Ibushi here.

Kota Ibushi wins this match here as the referee calls the wrestlers in and raises Kota Ibushi’s hand and declares him the winner. After the match, both Brian Kendrick and Kota Ibushi shook hands and hugged each other in signs of sportsmanship. This was nice to see after an amazing match between these two. Also, the emotion on Brian Kendrick was very saddening to see as he worked hard to get this far in the tournament. Feel sorry for Brian Kendrick here, but he had an excellent performance in this match and he has nothing to be ashamed.

Excellent match and with that, Kota Ibushi moves on to the semi-finals of the Cruiserweight Classic.

We then get footage that next week, we’ll get the last two quarter-final matches in the Cruiserweight Classic as we have Zack Sabre Jr. Vs. Noam Dar and Rich Swann Vs. TJ Perkins. Those should be great to excellent matches next week. Looking forward to them.

After the announcement, Brian Kendrick was seen being heavily emotional to the crowd in the ring as the crowd chanted, “Thank you Brian!”. This led to Daniel Bryan coming to the ring as he hugged Brian Kendrick for all of his efforts and then raised Brian Kendrick’s hand as Brian Kendrick cried.

Man, what a very heartfelt moment right there as these two know each other so well and it’s great to see something like that as it makes you very emotionally afterwards. Like I said before, even though Brian Kendrick lost, I think he’s going to be signed by WWE and be put in the Cruiserweight division on Raw. Thank you Brian!

Great way to end the show and I hope to see Brian Kendrick on Raw for the Cruiserweight division.

Overall, excellent show for the eighth show of the Cruiserweight Classic. Next week, we’ll see Zack Sabre Jr. Vs. Noam Dar and Rich Swann Vs. TJ Perkins which should be great. Looking forward to next week’s show, it should be awesome.
