Lucha Underground 9/14/16 Review: Weapons of Mass Destruction

Lucha Underground on September 14, 2016 was a great show that is building feuds and storylines for the future as well as building up new characters which is good. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a recap of what happened between Dario Cueto, Famous B, Mascarita Sagrada, Marty Martinez, and Killshot earlier in the season of Lucha Underground Season 2 and 3. This is a good way to remind people about what happened during that time in case they missed it or forgot about it as this week, the people from the recap appeared on the show. Well done and well produced.

The video segment between The Cops and Captain Vasquez was good. We see The Cops listening to Dario Cueto after Ultima Lucha Dos. After listening to Dario Cueto, Cortez Castro said that he doesn’t want to arrest Dario Cueto, but Captain Vasquez said that this is more than a meaningless street thug. This led to a kung-fu fight between Joey Ryan and Cortez Castro where there was more tension between the two.

No! We can’t get dissension between The Cops right now! We need them so they can get a partner in order to be a trio in Lucha Underground which we desperately need at the moment! Don’t do this Lucha Underground! Don’t you dare break them up! In all seriousness, this storyline is getting more interesting at the moment and I’m interested to see where it goes next especially with Cortez Castro as he’s on the fence of this investigation. Looking forward to see what happens next in this storyline. Good video segment here.

Mascarita Sagrada Vs. Dr. Wagner Jr. was a good squash match. Famous B was the one that introduced Dr. Wagner Jr. and if you haven’t already, please call 423-GET-FAME, again that’s 423-GET-FAME, call now so you can be famous!

This match was what it was with Dr. Wagner Jr. looking strong as he completely destroyed Mascarita Sagrada here with the Doctor Driver (Michinoku Driver) for the pin and win. I have a feeling that this feud between Mascarita Sagrada and Famous B will continue until we get Mascarita Sagrada Vs. Famous B match where Mascarita Sagrada will go over, but we have to wait and see. Till then, call 423-GET-FAME so you can be famous!

Good squash match and it’ll be interesting to see if the feud between Mascarita Sagrada and Famous B continues in Lucha Underground.

The video segment between Captain Vasquez and Cortez Castro was good. We get a flashback of the ancient Aztecs as a man told his daughter that she has to lead the Aztec tribe as a war is coming and it’s more important than him. He then gave an amulet that only works on females as it will grant her immortality once she gets to be an adult. As he gave the amulet to his daughter, he died.

We then get into another flashback during Ultima Lucha Dos as we see Captain Vasquez in her office with half of the amulet. Cortez Castro arrived to her office and Captain Vasquez told him that he will be suspended because they needed Dario Cueto out because he will lead them to the true enemy. Captain Vasquez then told Cortez Castro to decide on which side of the war he will be on.

This storyline is getting more and more interesting. So it seems like that Captain Vasquez is about a thousand years old just like Catrina which is pretty interesting and a good looking woman at that as well. So the amulet has the power to make a female immortal which is an interesting detail and I’m interested to see how the amulet will be a part of this story going forward. Not only that, she only has half of the amulet, where’s the other half? More questions to this, but I can’t wait to find out the answers and I hope we get them soon. Good video segment here.

Argenis Vs. Mil Muertes was a good squash match. Lucha Underground, I said this plenty of times, but I’ll say it again, give entrances to your wrestlers! Thank you.

This match was what it was with Argenis getting a little bit of offense on Mil Muertes, but Mil Muertes completely destroyed Argenis here as he hit a spear on Argenis followed by a reverse STO on Argenis for the pin and win. With Mil Muertes taking out King Cuerno at Ultima Lucha Dos, Mil Muertes is more evil than ever. It will be interesting to see who he will feud with in Lucha Underground next.

After the match, Catrina went to lick Argenis’ face until Prince Puma came out and hit a springboard lariat on Mil Muertes which led to a brawl between the two with Prince Puma getting the upper hand on Mil Muertes as Mil Muertes bailed.

After what Vampiro told Prince Puma last week to get Mil Muertes, he did exactly that. It seems like we’ll be getting a feud between Prince Puma and Mil Muertes again which I personally don’t mind as they do have great chemistry together, but I would like to see something different for the both of them as we have seen this feud before in Lucha Underground. However, it’s for the progression of the Prince Puma’s character so if Prince Puma has to face Mil Muertes because of it, that I’m fine with it. Looking forward to these two colliding again in the near future.

Good squash match and good post-match as I’m looking forward to see what’s next in the Prince Puma Vs. Mil Muertes feud.

The video segment between Dario Cueto and Joey Ryan was good. Dario Cueto returned to his office last week as Joey Ryan arrived to his office to explain to Dario Cueto that he knows that he killed Mr. Cisco and that he is a friend. Joey Ryan then told Dario Cueto that he is a cop, but wants to be on his side for this war. Joey Ryan then told Dario Cueto that he could be a double agent and he did everything he could to keep Dario Cueto out of jail as he told Dario Cueto that Cortez Castro is also a cop. Joey Ryan then offered Dario Cueto a hand for the deal because he has child support to pay as Dario Cueto gave him the cash.

So it seems like Joey Ryan is going to be on Dario Cueto’s side of this war. Great decision by Joey Ryan here as he’s aligning himself with “El Jefe”. In all seriousness, this storyline is getting more and more intriguing as it goes and I can’t wait to see how it turns out once they get to the climax. Looking forward to it. Good video segment here.

The video segment with Captain Vasquez and Cortez Castro was good. Cortez Castro went into Captain Vasquez’s office and told her that he will be on her side in this war. Captain Vasquez then told Cortez Castro that he’s heading back to the temple and as Cortez Castro was leaving, Captain Vasquez looked at her amulet.

So it seems like Cortez Castro is going to be on Captain Vasquez’s side of this war. I personally would have gone to Dario Cueto’s side because Dario Cueto is awesome, but that’s just me. All jokes aside, it seems like we’ll be getting some progression in this storyline which is nice to see as they have been building up this storyline since last season so I’m interested to see how it will play out. Looking forward to it. Good video segment here.

Killshot Vs. Marty Martinez in a Weapons of Mass Destruction match was excellent. Mark out moment! With these two having a history with each other from the end of Season 2 of Lucha Underground, this was a great way to finally finish the feud in this type of match where they finally settle their differences once and for all.

I like how when Marty Martinez was making his entrance, Killshot didn’t wait for Marty Martinez to finish his entrance as he attacked him from behind and began his assault on Marty Martinez. I liked it because it shows a sense of realism of the hatred between Killshot and Marty Martinez as Killshot isn’t willing to wait to get his hands on Marty Martinez so the moment he saw Marty Martinez, he’s going to strike and that’s what he did right here. Whoever booked this part, give yourself a pat to the back because that was good booking right there.

The match was brutal as you expect with the name of Weapons of Mass Destruction. However, this just felt like a hardcore match with a different name attached to it, but regardless, these two did everything they could to sell the audience that these two wanted to kill each other and I think they did just that in this match.

I like how in the beginning of the match, Killshot went straight after the head of Marty Martinez to make sure that he was unconscious and bled so he can take advantage of him in the match and win, that’s exactly what he did and it looked brutal. Marty Martinez lost a lot of blood in this match so I have to give credit to Marty Martinez for going such lengths to tell the appropriate story for this match even though he didn’t need to do it. Props to Marty Martinez here.

The spots in this match were insane and there were points in the match where I thought it was over. The 450 seated senton that Killshot did from the bleachers to the floor onto Marty Martinez was insane! Mark out moment! The belly-to-back suplex on the ring apron from Marty Martinez onto Killshot looked painful as heck. The powerbomb onto the two tables on the outside from Marty Martinez to Killshot looked devastating! Mark out moment! That Storm Cradle Driver by Killshot onto Marty Martinez looked amazing and I thought the match was over from there, but didn’t. Have to give props to both Killshot and Marty Martinez for taking huge bumps in the match when they didn’t need to so hands off to them.

The ending of the match came when Killshot and Marty Martinez were fighting on top of the ladder until Mariposa came to the ring in order to interfere in the match, but Killshot pushed Mariposa away as she crashed down from the ladder to a table! Mark out moment! Then Killshot grabbed Marty Martinez’s balls and grabbed his dog tags back as he followed it up by hitting a double foot stomp from the ladder onto Marty Martinez through a table for the pin and win! Mark out moment!

Wow, just wow. I have to give credit to all three of these wrestlers to put their bodies on the line even though they didn’t need to do it. Incredible. Hands off to Mariposa getting pushed off the ladder through a table. Must have been painful to her so props to her for doing it even though she didn’t need to. Not only that, hands off to Marty Martinez and Killshot for doing that double foot stomp off the ladder through a table spot even though they didn’t have to do it. Excellent performances by both men in this match. Well done.

After this match, I expect the feud between Killshot and Marty Martinez to be over and it was a great feud while it lasted, but it’s time to move on. Looking forward to see who Killshot and Marty Martinez will feud with next in Lucha Underground.

Excellent match and I’m interested to see who Killshot and Marty Martinez will feud with next in Lucha Underground.

The backstage segment between Mil Muertes and Catrina was great. We see Mil Muertes beating up a locker backstage as Catrina told him to stop, but he wants Prince Puma. She told Mil Muertes to be patient because he will get him as she has waited for hundreds of years to get she wants as she hold the other half of the amulet.

So it seems like we’ll be getting Prince Puma Vs. Mil Muertes which I’m all for which should be an excellent match. Also, Catrina has the other half of the amulet that captain Vasquez has. Why does Catrina have it? What purpose does she have with the amulet besides wanting to be immortal? So many questions that haven’t been answered and I hope we get the answers soon. Great backstage segment here to end the show.

Overall, great show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. So many storylines and feuds here and I love it! If you haven’t already, please check out Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
