NXT 9/14/16 Review: No Way… Glorious!

NXT on September 14, 2016 was a good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a promo segment between Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura and it was great. Samoa Joe came out to the ring and talked about how he’s a man that understands that he’s gone a bit too far and that he can make mistakes. He then said that when he was NXT Champion, he was a disgrace as he wanted to be the champion in NXT as he called out Shinsuke Nakamura.

Shinsuke Nakamura then came out as he entered the ring as Samoa Joe told Shinsuke Nakamura that at first, he thought he was undeserving to be #1 Contender to the NXT Championship, but he was proven wrong as Shinsuke Nakamura is now the NXT Champion.

Samoa Joe then told Shinsuke Nakamura that he wants a rematch with him for the NXT Championship once he recovers. Shinsuke Nakamura then responded to Samoa Joe by slowly accepting Samoa Joe’s challenge. Samoa Joe then extended his hand towards Shinsuke Nakamura where Shinsuke Nakamura was hesitated at first until he eventually shook his hand as Samoa Joe said thanks to Shinsuke Nakamura as he heads to the back.

Shinsuke Nakamura then played with the crowd a bit before heading up the ramp. As Shinsuke Nakamura was posing at the ramp, Samoa Joe attacked him from behind as he slammed him through the steel steps and then hit Shinsuke Nakamura with a uranage on the steel steps. The referees then came in to send Samoa Joe away as Samoa Joe yelled to Shinsuke Nakamura that he did this to him. The medical team then put Shinsuke Nakamura on a stretcher with a neck break as William Regal and Corey Graves went to check on him to see if he’s okay.

Man, Samoa Joe is so obsessed with Shinsuke Nakamura and the NXT Championship that he even took him out for it. It seems that the feud between Shinsuke Nakamura and Samoa Joe just got more personal here and I can’t wait to see them tear each other apart when they’re both recovered. Should be excellent.

Great promo segment as I’m interested to see what’s next in this feud between Shinsuke Nakamura and Samoa Joe in NXT.

The backstage segment between William Regal and Samoa Joe was good. William Regal was outside of the arena as he was trying to chase down Samoa Joe, but Samoa Joe managed to get away as he drove away as William Regal approached him.

Wow, Samoa Joe is trying to get away from what he did to Shinsuke Nakamura that he even doesn’t want to deal with William Regal about it. It seems like the tension between William Regal and Samoa Joe keeps growing and I really wonder if we’re going to get a match between the two down the line because it’s getting really intense between the two of them. Either way, I would love to see a match between William Regal and Samoa Joe which I think would be excellent if it happens. Good backstage segment here.

Liv Morgan Vs. Rachel Fazio was a solid women’s match. Oh my god! Rachel Fazio just made an appearance on NXT! Mark out moment! For those of you who don’t know, she’s Rachael Ellering who is the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer, Paul Ellering who is now managing The Authors of Pain. I have no idea why NXT changed her name unless she is signed with NXT and if so, great for her. I hope it’s true.

Rachel Fazio did well in this match as she got to get some offense, but not a lot. Liv Morgan did well here as well as she got to show her athletic ability. Nice performances by both women here.

The ending of the match came when Liv Morgan applied the guillotine choke on Rachel Fazio to make her tap out and win. It’s great to see Liv Morgan getting more wins in NXT as she’s one of the women in NXT currently that could be a star in the women’s division with a lot of the women moving up to the main roster. Hope to see more of her progress in NXT.

After the match, Liv Morgan cut a promo and it wasn’t all that great to me. She said that no offense, but Rachel just tapped out as she said that there’s no one on the NXT women’s division that could face Asuka right now. She then said that she’s here and she wants to fight. People may think it’s a death wish, but she doesn’t care as she wants a title match against Asuka.

Liv Morgan needs a lot more practice with her promo skills because this promo wasn’t that good. I mean she has the right words, but her delivery seemed very off. Hopefully, she will work on that as time goes on.

Not only that, even though Liv Morgan said that she doesn’t have a death wish, she does. Going against Asuka with just a few wins is insane. I expect Asuka to accept the challenge from Liv Morgan and Asuka will probably squash her unfortunately. Make sure that you live after you face Asuka Liv Morgan because Asuka might kill you. Ba!

Solid women’s match and I’m looking forward to see how Asuka Vs. Liv Morgan will work out once it happens.

Just a reminder that NXT is coming to New Zealand and Australia for the first time in December so get your tickets when they’re available. NXT is taking over the world and I love it.

We then see the same vignette of the word “sanity“. These vignettes have been going on for a month now and I think it’s time to reveal what “sanity” is or who “sanity” is. I’m still thinking it’s Eric Young, but we’ll see. Should be interesting to see.

Hideo Itami Vs. Drew Gulak was a good match. Oh my god! Drew Gulak has made an appearance on NXT! Mark out moment! Drew Gulak had an impressive showing in the CWC so I would love to see him get signed by NXT in the future.

Drew Gulak was impressive in this match as he got some offense in this match against Hideo Itami. His slap to Hideo Itami looked painful which cause Hideo Itami to snap which was cool to see. Hideo Itami was impressive in this match as well as he continues to prove that he still had it in the ring despite being out of action for over a year. His kicks to Drew Gulak looked vicious as heck. Good performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Hideo Itami hit the GTS (Fireman’s carry onto a knee) on Drew Gulak for the pin and win. Even though Drew Gulak lost this match, he looked good in defeat and he brought out a vicious side to Hideo Itami which was nice to see. Hideo Itami is looking ready to face Austin Aries which I expect will happen at NXT Toronto in two months. Looking forward to that when that happens, should be excellent.

Good match as I can’t wait to see what’s next for the feud between Hideo Itami and Austin Aries in NXT. Also, NXT, please sign Drew Gulak!

Doug Sessa & Chris Payne Vs. Authors of Pain was a good tag team squash match. Oh my god! Chris Payne just made an appearance on NXT! Mark out moment! For those of you who don’t know, Chris Payne is a wrestler from PWS and he has a lot of potential to be a great star in the future so I hope he gets signed by NXT. As for Doug Sessa, he’s known as Braydon Knight who wrestles in BELIEVE. Haven’t seen much of him, but I would like to see more of his work down the line. Nice to see both men here.

Unfortunately, they didn’t get much offense here as they got decimated by the Authors of Pain here as they get the win by hitting the Russian legsweep/clothesline combination on Doug Sessa for the pin and win. Authors of Pain continued to be a dominating force in NXT and it’s only a matter of time when they get a shot at the NXT Tag Team Championships. Will be looking forward to that when it happens. Should be interesting to see.

Good squash match and I’m interested to see what’s next for Authors of Pain in NXT. Also, NXT, please sign Chris Payne!

The backstage promo from Tye Dillinger was good. Tye Dillinger talked about how he has been on a roller-coaster over the summer with him having a losing streak at the beginning, but he has gotten his momentum back as he started to get wins as of late. He then said that he will always be a perfect ten.

It’s great to see that Tye Dillinger is back on track and starting to get wins finally. Hopefully, this will finally mean a push for Tye Dillinger because he definitely deserved one and he’s a perfect ten. Good backstage promo here.

We then get an advertisement for Connor’s Cure which is nice to see as we don’t want more children getting cancer or anything, so please support them at

No Way Jose Vs. Bobby Roode was a good match. After the confrontation that No Way Jose and Bobby Roode had two weeks ago, this match makes sense. Also, that entrance from Bobby Roode, it was glorious.

No Way Jose did pretty well in this match as he got to show more of his serious side here against Bobby Roode with not much dancing here. His spinning fireman’s carry into the fireman’s carry cutter on Bobby Roode looked cool as No Way Jose continued to add moves to his arsenal. Bobby Roode did well in this match as well as he made himself looked good as well as making No Way Jose looked good. Not only that, he got to show some charisma here which was glorious. Good performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Bobby Roode hit the lifting DDT on No Way Jose for the pin and win. It seems like NXT is trying to find a finisher for Bobby Roode and even though the lifting DDT was better than the pumphandle slam, I still prefer his Roode Bomb (Fireman’s carry into a neckbreaker slam) finisher, but that’s just me. It will be interesting to see what these two men do next in NXT and I’ll be looking forward to it. No Way Jose! Glorious!

Good match and I’m interested to see what’s next for No Way Jose and Bobby Roode in NXT.

Overall, good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we’re probably going to have an update on Shinsuke Nakamura’s condition after what Samoa Joe what did to him which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
