NXT on September 21, 2016 was a great show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package after what happened last week when Samoa Joe brutally attacked Shinsuke Nakamura. This is good as it shows what happened last week in case people missed it or forgot about it. Well produced video package here.

The promo segment between Samoa Joe wand William Regal was good. Samoa Joe came out to the ring to address his attack on Shinsuke Nakamura last week as he has gotten a medical report on Shinsuke Nakamura’s status. Samoa Joe said that due to him, Shinsuke Nakamura has severe inflammation in his left elbow, multiple contusions in the lower lumbar, and separation of the clavicle and left shoulder. He then said that those injuries won’t require surgery, but Shinsuke Nakamura will be out of action for 6 to 12 weeks. Samoa Joe then said that he can’t wait 6 to 12 weeks as he wants his match against Shinsuke Nakamura and the NXT Championship and if nothing is done about him, he will do it himself.

William Regal then came out from the entrance ramp as he told Samoa Joe that he doesn’t know where Samoa Joe got the report from, but it’s accurate as Shinsuke Nakamura is severely hurt and he doesn’t know more than that. He then said to Samoa Joe that he will take of the problem that Samoa Joe caused to Shinsuke Nakamura.

Samoa Joe then got pissed as he left the ring and went face to face with William Regal. He then told William Regal that he’s giving him an opportunity to do the right thing and if not, he’s going to destroy the whole NXT locker room like he did with Shinsuke Nakamura as he left.

I love how they’re still continuing tension between William Regal and Samoa Joe which has to lead to a match between them down the road as it has to happen. This is a good way to keep the feud between Shinsuke Nakamura and Samoa Joe going until Shinsuke Nakamura comes back up from injury. Can’t wait for those two to tear each other apart when the time comes. Should be excellent.

Good promo segment as I’m interested to see what’s next in this feud between Shinsuke Nakamura and Samoa Joe in NXT.

We then get a recap of what happened last month in the CWC with Kota Ibushi Vs. Cedric Alexander. This was good as it showed what happened on the CWC last month in case people missed or forgot about it. Plus, it was an excellent match so if you haven’t already, please watch the match, you won’t be disappointed. Not only that, it ties in to the next segment which I will talk about next.

The backstage interview with Cedric Alexander by Dasha Fuentes was good. Cedric Alexander said that he has worked for seven years to get to this point and people told him that he wouldn’t make it, but he did. He then said that he wants to wrestle the best in NXT and his first opponent will be Andrade “Cien” Almas.

Oh my god! Cedric Alexander made his NXT debut! Mark out moment! Great to see that Cedric Alexander got signed and it’s great to see him in NXT as well. Him Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas should be a great match. Looking forward to it. Good backstage interview here.

We then get an advertisement for Connor’s Cure which is nice to see as we don’t want more children getting cancer or anything, so please support them at www.ConnorTheCrusher.org.

The backstage segment with Liv Morgan and Asuka by Charly Caruso was good. Liv Morgan said that she came to NXT to hop hurdles so she’s not afraid of Asuka. She then said that she didn’t start from the bottom to end up back at the bottom. Asuka then showed up and asked Liv Morgan if she’s ready for her as she grinned at Liv Morgan as she left.

So it seems like we’ll be getting Asuka Vs. Liv Morgan in the future which should be interesting to see. We’ll see if Liv Morgan can go toe to toe with Asuka as it will be her biggest test yet. Looking forward to it. Good backstage segment here.

Oney Lorcan Vs. Austin Aries was a great match. Both men went out there and delivered a great match where neither man looked weak.

Oney Lorcan was great in this match as he got to show that he can hang with top guys like Austin Aries here. His European uppercuts to Austin Aries looked devastating. Austin Aries was great here as well as he was his usual self trying to make himself look great as well as his opponent. Great performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Austin Aries applied the Last Chancery onto Oney Lorcan to make him tap out. Even though Oney Lorcan lost here, he looked great in defeat and I hope to see more of him in NXT in the future.

After the match, Austin Aries called Hideo Itami out as he said that Hideo Itami may put people to sleep, but Austin Aries makes people to tap out. Hideo Itami then came out and entered the ring and as Hideo Itami entered the ring, Austin Aries retreated as he went to the back with his hands raised high.

So is Austin Aries a coward or something because he has been avoiding Hideo Itami for a while now. Either way, I can’t wait for these two to face each other as it should be an excellent match just like their match at ROH back in 2006. Looking forward to it when the time comes.

Great match and good post-match as I’m looking forward to Hideo Itami Vs. Austin Aries in the near future.

We then get a vignette of Dan Matha as he will make his debut for NXT in two weeks. Dan Matha has signed with NXT last year as he’s a former football player and has been training ever since. Now, I haven’t seen his work before so I don’t know if he has a character, charisma, or is a good worker in the ring. However, I will say that he has a great look and he has presence about him so he got that at least. It’ll be interesting to see how he turns out and I’ll be looking forward to his debut in two weeks.

We then get a recap of what happened last week with The Revival and DIY after the Crusierweight Classic Live Finale. Tommaso Ciampa said that it was their night as they won their match at the Cruiserweight Classic Live Finale. Suddenly, The Revival showed up and started attacking DIY out in the parking lot. The Revival then retreated as officials prevented DIY from chasing The Revival any further.

So it seems like the feud between The Revival and DIY is far from over after what we saw here as it gets more personal every time they cross. I can’t wait to see these two teams go at it again and tear each other apart in the near future. Should be excellent.

Aliyah Vs. Billie Kay was a solid women’s match. Both women did well here as they are trying to move up the ranks in the NXT Women’s Division.

Aliyah did well here in this match showcasing more of her technical ability in the ring which is nice to see. Billie Kay did well in this match as well as she got to showcase her strength. Her Argentine backbreaker hold on Aliyah looked painful. Solid performances by both women here.

The ending of the match came when Billie Kay hit a big boot on Aliyah for the pin and win. Still not a big fan of the big boot finisher, but at least it looks better every time she uses it so I might get used to it, but we’ll see. It will be interesting to see where Aliyah and Billie Kay go from here.

Solid women’s match and I’m interested to see what’s next for Aliyah and Billie Kay in NXT.

We then get the same vignette of the word “sanity“. It’s been about a month since we got this vignette and we still can’t figure who or what sanity is. My guess is still Eric Young, but we’ll see. I’m interested to see who or what sanity is when it comes. Hoping that it’s good.

The backstage interview with Mandy Rose by Dasha Fuentes was good. Mandy Rose talked about the comments she made on social media about Ember Moon. She said that Ember Moon is a cross between Hunger Games and Little Red Riding Hood. Mandy Rose then said that she’s what a NXT superstar looks like and when they get in the ring, she’ll make sure that Ember Moon is eclipsed.

Pretty good promo here by Mandy Rose here as it seems like she’ll be feuding or having a match with Ember Moon down the line which is good because the more feuds in NXT, the better. It will be interesting to see how Ember Moon Vs. Mandy Rose will turn out in the future. Good backstage interview here.

We then get an announcement that next week, it’ll be Asuka Vs. Liv Morgan. After what happened earlier between Asuka and Liv Morgan last week, this match makes sense and I’ll be looking forward to it next week. Should be interesting to see.

Cedric Alexander Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas was a great match. Cedric Alexander made his NXT in-ring debut! Mark out moment!

This was Cedric Alexander’s first match in NXT and I think he did well for himself here as he looked great in this match. His somesault dive to the outside and his springboard clothesline on Andrade “Cien” Almas looked beautiful. Andrade “Cien” Almas was great in this match as well as he got to show why he is one of the best luchadores in wrestling. His corkscrew plancha and his feint moonsault to a standing moonsault on Cedric Alexander looked beautiful as well.

Not only that, Andrade “Cien” Almas even managed to hit the Brillante Driver (Schoolboy suplex) on Cedric Alexander! Mark out moment! Unfortunately, it didn’t get the win for him, but it’s great to see that he can still use that move in NXT so that’s great to see. Great performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Andrade “Cien” Almas was about to hit Cedric Alexander with the running double knees to the corner, but Cedric Alexander caught him and hit the belly-to-back suplex into a double knee backbreaker on Andrade “Cien” Almas for the pin and win. Even though, Andrade “Cien” Almas lost here, he looked great in defeat so he has nothing to be ashamed of. As for Cedric Alexander, a great win in his debut on NXT. Cien! Overtime!

After the match, both Cedric Alexander and Andrade “Cien” Almas shook hands and embraced each other in a sign of sportsmanship. That is nice to see after a great match these two had against each other. Would love to see these two face each other again in NXT in the future as they have great chemistry with each other. It will be interesting to see what Cedric Alexander and Andrade “Cien” Almas do next in NXT.

Great match and great post-match as I’m interested to see what’s next for Cedric Alexander and Andrade “Cien” Almas in NXT.

Overall, great show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we’re going to have Asuka Vs. Liv Morgan which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
