Lucha Underground on April 20, 2016 was a good show that is building feuds and storylines for the future as well as building up new characters which is good. Let’s break it down:
We start off the show with a recap of what happened between The participants in the Trios Tournament, Mil Muertes, Catrina, Dario Cueto, and Matanza earlier in the season of Lucha Underground Season 2. This is a good way to remind people about what happened during that time in case they missed it or forgot about it as this week, the people from the recap appeared on the show. Well done and well produced.
The backstage segment between Fenix, Drago, Aero Star, and Dario Cueto was pretty good. Dario Cueto meets with Fenix, Drago, and Aero Star in his office. He tells Fenix that he was lucky that he survived Matanza. He tells them that they all have been in the trios tournament last season and he needs a new team, but not with Fenix, Drago, and Aero Star. Instead, Fenix will team up with Jack Evans and PJ Black in the Trios Tournament while Drago and Aero Star will face each other for the second Aztec medallion.
Wow Dario Cueto, you just ruin what could have been an awesome trios team with Fenix, Drago, and Aero Star. Dang you Dario Cueto! However, I like that about you because you’re a great villain, but dang it, they could have been an awesome trio!
However, a trio with Fenix, Jack Evans, and PJ Black is very interesting to me. I doubt that they will get along, but the dynamic between the three should be interesting to see. Looking forward to see how those three will do.
Drago Vs. Aero Star for the second Aztec medallion, yes! That should be a great to excellent match as these two have a lot of history with each other going back into Season 1 with that Best of Five Series. Can’t wait for that match, it should be awesome. Good backstage segment here.
Drago Vs. Aero Star in a Gift of the Gods Aztec Medallion match was good. With their history together in Lucha Underground, you know these two will be on put a good match and they did right here.
Unfortunately, the match was not as great or excellent from their matches from Season 1 due to that botch that Aero Star did with that triple jump spot. I think it wasn’t for that, I think this match would have been great.
Luckily, Aero Star seemed to be fine during the match despite the botch that he did and the commentators did a good job of covering that botch. Aero Star got the victory and holds the second Aztec medallion. So now we have Texano and Aero Star with Aztec medallions. Not bad so far and I’m interested to see who else will win those medallions.
Good match and looking forward to see who else will win the Aztec medallions.
The backstage segment between Johnny Mundo and Taya was good. Johnny Mundo was training backstage until Taya showed up and tells him that he keeps looking better every day. Taya also tells Johnny Mundo that he will have a chance to win an Aztec medallion next week. Johnny Muno didn’t like the fact that he has to work for it, but accepts it. Taya then tells Johnny Mundo that he will go against Cage for the Aztec medallion. Johnny Mundo then wants Taya to be in his corner to help him, but Taya informs him that the match will be in a steel cage which made Johnny Mundo a bit scared in the end.
So next week we’re going to have Cage Vs. Johnny Mundo in a Steel Cage match for the third Aztec medallion, awesome! That should be a great to excellent match next week to settle the score between Cage and Johnny Mundo once and for all. I’m looking forward to it. Good backstage segment here.
Fenix, Jack Evans, and PJ Black Vs. The Disciples of Death in a Trios Tournament match was great. Both trios went out there and put on a great trios match.
The dynamic between Fenix, Jack Evans, and PJ Black was great even though they seem to have some miscommunication with each other throughout the match, but it is to be expected as Fenix is friends with Drago and Aero Star, and Jack Evans and PJ Black are the ones that are feuding with them so it makes sense for them to have miscommunication with each other.
Despite that, Fenix, Jack Evans, and PJ Black managed to get the win and they moved on in the tournament. Poor The Disciples of Death, this is another loss for them and I bet that Catrina won’t be happy about this. The interaction between Fenix, Jack Evans, and PJ Black was hilarious. You can tell that they’re going to get along just fine. Okay not really, but this was funny, I enjoyed it.
Now we have The Cop Crew, The Ultimate Flight Crew, and the trio of Fenix, Jack Evans, and PJ Black moving on in the Trios Tournament. Not a bad list of trio teams right there. Looks great. Interested to see who else will join those three trios I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
Great trios match and I can’t wait to see who’s the next trio to join The Cop Crew, The Ultimate Flight Crew, and the trio of Fenix, Jack Evans, and PJ Black.
The backstage segment between Dario Cueto and The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs was good. Dario Cueto talks to The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs in his office about how The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs at first were against each other, but now they’re a strong trio together. The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs promised to each other that no matter who wins the tournament, they will retain their trios championships.
However, Dario Cueto tells The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs that they’re going to be in tournament as they will defend the Lucha Underground Trios Championships against The Cop Crew, The Ultimate Flight Crew, and the trio of Fenix, Jack Evans, and PJ Black next week. Dario Cueto then calls The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs, Team Havoc which caused everyone in the trio to argue with each other.
Well, Dario Cueto did it again. However, this is why we love him as he’s the best villain in Lucha Underground at the moment. Also, it shouldn’t be Team Havoc, it should be The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs as their trios name, get it right guys!
All jokes aside, I’m looking forward to seeing the four way trios match next week for the Lucha Underground Trios Championships. Should be great. Good backstage segment here.
The backstage segment between The Disciples of Death and Catrina was great. The Disciples of Death appear from Beyond the Grave backstage as Catrina approaches them and tells that they failed her. She also said that what it made it worse was when Fenix took the victory over them. Catrina asks The Disciples of Death on why they should live and this leads to Siniestro de la Muerte to take the hearts out of Barrio Negro and Trece as he gets to live.
Dang, Siniestro de la Muerte is willing to kill his own allies in order to live. Kind of heartless for him to take hearts out of Barrio Negro and Trece. I kind of like it as it’s showing a side of Siniestro de la Muerte that I never seen before and he seems to be going for a more evil and lethal character. I’m interested to see where that goes.
However, with this, they lost a trio. Luckily, Lucha Underground are building up new trios at the moment so that’s good. Should be interesting to see how Siniestro de la Muerte does on his own. Great backstage segment here.
Matanza Vs. Mil Muertes for the Lucha Underground Championship was a great match. Even though I don’t feel like they went all out in this match as they shouldn’t as I think they should save it for Ultima Lucha II, but we’ll see.
The way both men went against each other, it’s what you expected. Two big men willing to kill each other in that ring and I love every minute of it.
However, the most intriguing about this match was the ending. Both Mil Muertes and Matanza were brawling all over the Temple and eventually went up on top of the office. Then, Mil Muertes hits a reverse STO on Matanza on top of the office and they crash down through the roof! Mark out moment! Holy shoot, I did not see that coming! That was awesome!
As a result of this, this feud between Mil Muertes and Matanza is far from over and I can’t wait to see these two to finally kill each other in that ring. “The Man of a Thousand of Deaths” Vs. “The Monster”, Catrina Vs. Dario Cueto, The Stone Vs. The Key, I’m all for it and it should be excellent!
Great match even though it ended in a no contest as the feud between Mil Muertes and Matanza is far from over.
The video segment between Captain Vasquez and Lorenzo Lamas was great. Captain Vasquez is continuing her case with Dario Cueto as we see signs for Bael, Alberto El Patron, Hernandez, Blue Demon Jr., Big Ryck, and DelAvar Daivari. Then a councilman arrives which is played by Lorenzo Lamas and told Captain Vasquez on what she’s doing in his territory. His boss wants her to stop the case on Dario Cueto, but she refuses. Then the councilman tells Captain Vasquez that his boss is much more powerful and that it’s friendly advice as he leaves with Captain Vasquez not looking happy about this.
Oh my god! Lorenzo Lamas is in Lucha Underground! Mark out moment! Lorenzo Lamas is a famous actor who is well known from TV shows in the 80s and 90s such as Falcon Crest and Renegade. Man, this is awesome! Lucha Underground is getting great actors for non-wrestling roles as I kind of hate when WWE and TNA especially just take random people from the street to do acting and they can’t act at all, but Lucha Underground takes good actors to do non-wrestling roles and they’re doing great. They did with Luis Fernandez-Gil as Dario Cueto and now possibly Lorenzo Lamas. This is great!
Plus, I like how in Captain Vasquez’s office, she has signs and pictures of the Lucha Underground alumnus. I like the sense of detail in that. I’m really intrigued with this storyline and can’t wait to see what happens next with it. Hope it has a good payoff. Great video segment to end the show.
Overall, good show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. So many storylines and feuds here and I love it! Next week, we’re going to have a four way trios match for the Lucha Underground Trios Championships and Cage Vs. Johnny Mundo in a Steel Cage match, looking forward to that. If you haven’t already, please check out Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
