NXT 4/20/16 Review: The Machine Takes Out The Nation

Published

on

NXT on April 20, 2016 was a good show that is building up characters and possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with American Alpha Vs. The Certified Gs and it was a great tag team match. Before the match, The Certified Gs cut a very entertaining promo that hypes their match as well as their opponents. For your information, the show is still in the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Center in Dallas, Texas. Good crowd from Dallas in this show.

This is the first time ever that both American Alpha Vs. The Certified Gs faced each other and man, it was a great tag team match. Both teams went out and there and they delivered a great tag team match.

The Certified Gs were great here showing why they have been on top of the NXT tag team division for quite a long time and American Alpha were great here as well showing why they are the NXT Tag Team Championships at the moment. All four men have their moments in this match and it was great to see. Both Colin Cassady and Jason Jordan did great in this match especially. Plus, I like how Jason Jordan put on the straps back once he pulled them down, but ended up pulling it down again, that was awesome.

American Alpha got the win here and they should as they are the NXT Tag Team Champions and The Certified Gs are leaving for the main roster. If this is the last match that The Certified Gs will have on NXT, they went out with a bang and did the right thing putting over American Alpha on their way out, and that’s not S-A-W-F-T, SAWFT! Thank you The Certified Gs for everything you have done for NXT and I wish you luck on the main roster. Thank you The Certified Gs!

Great tag team match as I’m looking forward to see what’s next for American Alpha and thank you The Certified Gs!

The backstage promo that Apollo Crews cut was good. Apollo Crews said that he doesn’t like bullies which include Samoa Joe. He knows what Samoa Joe has accomplished in his career and knows what he’s capable of. However, he’s going to prove to Samoa Joe that he can do a lot too in the Age of Apollo.

Apollo Crews keeps getting better on the mic which is great to see as his mic skills are his weakest point of his in terms of overall talent. Love that Apollo Crews was not messing around with this promo as he should as he’s going to face Samoa Joe later on in the show. I’m looking forward to that match, should be great. Good backstage promo here.

The vignette of No Way Jose for the past few weeks was shown, but this time, he’s coming up next! Yes! Let’s get on to it right now!

No Way Jose Vs. Alexander Wolfe was a good match. No Way Jose finally makes his debut on NXT! Mark out moment! I was right, No Way Jose is Levis Valenzuela Jr. or Manny Garcia in the independent circuit. That’s awesome.

No Way Jose was impressive in this match showing his character and in-ring skills. For a man his size, the guy can move and I love how he corporate his character on how he wrestles, very nice touch there. Though he may need a better finisher than that knockout punch, but in a way, it fits his character so I’m okay with it for now. Plus, the crowd was into him in this match so that’s a good sign. Very interested to see who No Way Jose will feud with first in NXT.

I also like how NXT is giving Alexander Wolfe some spotlight as well as he got an entrance and the NXT commentators mention his career in Germany as “The Axeman” Axel Tischer. Very nice touch there. Hope to see Alexander Wolfe get a push in NXT in the future.

Good match and hope to see Alexander Wolfe get pushed in NXT as well as what NXT will do with No Way Jose.

The backstage interview with Austin Aries by Alex Reyes was great. Alex Reyes tells Austin Aries that Baron Corbin said his win against him at NXT Dallas was lucky. Austin Aries says he doesn’t believe in luck and he doesn’t need luck as he has skills. Austin Aries says that if Baron Corbin wants to fight him, he’s not a hard guy to find as he’s ready to prove that he is “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived” and will accept any challenge in front of him.

Austin Aries being great on the mic as always and I like how he’s willing to take on all challengers no matter who it is. It may seem like the feud between Austin Aries and Baron Corbin may not be over yet as it seems like Baron Corbin isn’t done with Austin Aries so it will be interesting to see where this feud goes from here if they’re continuing it that is. Great backstage interview here.

We then see Samoa Joe backstage getting ready for his match against Apollo Crews later on the show. This is good as it helps build up the main event as well as showing how Samoa Joe looks before his match. It looks like Samoa Joe is ready to kill someone and I can’t wait. Should be a great match.

The backstage segment between Elias Samson and William Regal was great. Elias Samson is playing his guitar in a storage room until William Regal pops in and sits next to Elias Samson. William Regal tells Elias Samson that he has been listening to his songs and grants Elias Samson an opportunity. Elias Samson questions William Regal and William Regal tells Elias Samson that next week, he will face Shinsuke Nakamura. As William Regal leaves, Elias Samson plays a broken minor chord.

Wow William Regal, what a way to ruin Elias Samson’s mood. Jokes aside, Elias Samson going against Shinsuke Nakamura should be a great honor for him. Interested to see how well he can do against Shinsuke Nakamura next week, I’m looking forward to it. Great backstage segment here.

Deonna Purrazzo Vs. Nia Jax was a good women’s squash match. Yes, Deonna Purrazzo made another appearance on NXT! Mark out moment! NXT, have you not given Deonna Purrazzo a NXT contract yet?! What are you waiting for?! Go sign her now!

In all seriousness, I’m happy to see Deonna Purrazzo in NXT as she has been appearing a lot lately. Maybe she signed a NXT contract that we don’t know about? I guess we’ll find out in the future. Unfortunately, Deonna Purrazzo didn’t even get a lot of offense in this match as she got squashed by Nia Jax.

Nia Jax was her usual self here being dominant and looking strong in the process. I assume that once the feud between Asuka and Bayley is done, Nia Jax is next in line for the NXT Women’s Championship. That should be interesting to see if it happens, but I guess we’ll find out sooner or later.

Good women’s squash match and interested to see where Nia Jax goes next from here and NXT, if you haven’t already, please sign Deonna Purrazzo to a NXT contract!

The backstage interview with Bayley by Dasha Fuentes was good. Dasha Fuentes asks Bayley about Asuka Vs. Eva Marie next week and Bayley tells Dasha Fuentes that anything could happen in NXT and as long as the NXT Women’s Champion is in the picture, she’ll be watching.

So it seems like we might get more tension between Asuka and Bayley possibly since Bayley is looking to gain back her NXT Women’s Championship. I wonder if Bayley would get involved with Asuka Vs. Eva Marie next week, but we’ll see. Also, poor Eva Marie. She’s probably going to get destroyed by Asuka next week. Poor Eva Marie. Good backstage interview here.

We then see Apollo Crews backstage getting ready for his match against Samoa Joe which comes up next. This is good as it helps build up the main event as well as showing how Apollo Crews looks before his match. Looks like Apollo Crews is ready to go so let’s go!

Before that though, it’s announced that next week, we will get Asuka Vs. Eva Marie and Shinsuke Nakamura Vs. Elias Samson. Next week should be a lot of fun, looking forward to it. Now, let’s get onto the main event!

Apollo Crews Vs. Samoa Joe was a great match. This is the first time that these two face each other on NXT TV so this was great to see as its two big men going at it to see who the better man is.

Both Apollo Crews and Samoa Joe were their usual selves here in this match with Samoa Joe being that dominant monster that he is and Apollo Crews being that athletic gifted man that he is. We should expect a great match out of these two and we did. Great efforts by both men here in this match.

Samoa Joe gets the win by making Apollo Crews tap out to the Coquina Clutch. Samoa Joe has been on a rampage as of late and despite losing to Finn Balor at NXT Dallas, it seems like his road to the NXT Championship will not end just yet. Interested to see where Samoa Joe does next in NXT.

If this is the last match that Apollo Crews will have on NXT, he went out with a bang and did the right thing on putting over Samoa Joe on his way out as he made it look too easy! Thank you Apollo Crews for everything you have done for NXT and I wish you luck on the main roster. Thank you Apollo Crews!

Great match and interested to see where Samoa Joe goes next from here and thank you Apollo Crews!

Overall, good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we’re going to get Asuka Vs. Eva Marie and Shinsuke Nakamura Vs. Elias Samson which should be fun. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
