NXT Showcase: Nia Jax

Topic/Subject: Today, I will be showing a match that involves a woman that is the force of greatness.

Wrestler: “The Force of Greatness” Nia Jax.

Background Information: Nia Jax is billed from San Diego, California. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and is the daughter of Renate and Joseph Fanene.

She attended Palomar College in San Marcos, California, where she played college basketball.

On May 5, 2014, it was reported that she signed a contract with the WWE. She reported to the WWE Performance Center where she began training.

She debuted under her ring name of Lina. On May 7, 2015, during the live show of NXT in Jacksonville, Florida, she teamed with Devin Taylor in a losing tag team match against Bayley & Carmella.

From May 23, 29 and May 30, 2015, on NXT, she suffered a consecutive string of losses against Becky Lynch during her first series of singles matches.

She returned to tag team action picking up victories with Dana Brooke first against Devin Taylor and Jessie McKay on June 19, 2015 and with Alexa Bliss & Jasmin Areebi against Carmella, Cassie and Devin Taylor on June 20, 2015. In August 2015, her ring name was changed to Nia Jax.

Beginning with NXT Takeover: Brooklyn, video promos aired teasing her debut. She made her debut on October 14, 2015, on an episode of NXT, establishing herself as a villain and defeating Evie in singles action.

After her debut, she went on a winning streak, defeating various enhancement talents and NXT Diva Carmella, while establishing herself as a villain.

In November 2015, she formed an alliance with Eva Marie and started her first rivalry with Bayley over the NXT Women’s Championship. She earned a title match on December 16, 2015, at NXT TakeOver: London where she was unsuccessful in winning the title.

On January 27, 2016, on an episode of NXT, she returned to the ring after a month of inactivity due to a storyline injury with a win over Liv Morgan.

On May 25, 2016, on an episode of NXT, she won a triple–threat match over Carmella and Alexa Bliss to become the number one contender to Asuka’s NXT Women’s Championship. She received her title match on June 8, 2016, at NXT TakeOver: The End, but was unsuccessful in capturing the title.

On July 20, 2016, on an episode of NXT, she was defeated by Bayley in what would be her last match in NXT.

After being drafted from NXT to Raw as part of the 2016 WWE draft which took place on July 19, 2016, she made her main roster debut for the brand on July 25, 2016, where she defeated local competitor Britt Baker.

She still competes in WWE to this day and is a part of the Raw brand.

Prior to entering professional wrestling, she was a basketball player. She is also a cousin of semi-retired wrestler and current actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

My Thoughts: Nia Jax is a woman that has a lot of potential. Even though she’s not great in the ring, she has a great look, she has presence about her in and outside of the ring that makes her look like a threat, she has a good character, and she has solid charisma. She’s not like most girls!

Video: This video contains a match between Nia Jax and Evie at NXT on October 15, 2015.

My Thoughts: This was a good squash match for Nia Jax where she got to showcase her character and in-ring ability. This was Nia Jax’s debut on NXT TV after weeks of vignettes hyping her up.

The entrance that Nia Jax made was great. It really showed that she isn’t like most women’s wrestlers in NXT so she stood out a lot. Plus, when you look at her, it looked like she was going to beat up and she did just that in her match against Evie.

Even though I can tell Nia Jax is still very green in the ring, she managed to use what works for her by trying to hide her weaknesses and showing more of her character instead of her in-ring ability. The spinebuster that she did to Evie was devastating. Despite being green in this ring, she got to showcase her character well.

Good squash match and it was a good debut for Nia Jax during this time where she got to showcase her character.

Even though I think Nia Jax has a lot of potential to be a great heel monster, I believe and feel like she isn’t ready to be on the main roster of WWE. Now granted, she has the look and the character to do well on the main roster, but I feel like she could have improve her in-ring ability if she stayed in NXT for another year or two.

Despite that, I think she could be something in WWE, but it’s going to take some time and that’s if WWE booked her correctly. I wish her luck on Monday Night Raw. She’s not like most girls!

After watching the video, give me your thoughts on the video or the wrestler herself. Thank you.
