NXT 10/19/16 Review: Generation Next Reunites!

Published

on

NXT on October 19, 2016 was a great show that is building up NXT Toronto in four weeks. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package of the feud between Shinsuke Nakamura and Samoa Joe. This is good as it shows what happened between Shinsuke Nakamura and Samoa Joe and why they are feuding with each other. Looking forward to see what happens when these two meet each other face to face again, it should be physical. Well produced video package here.

No Way Jose and Rich Swann Vs. Tony Nese and Drew Gulak in the first round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic was a great tag team match. Tony Nese and Drew Gulak have made their returns to NXT! Mark out moment for both! Great to see both Tony Nese and Drew Gulak back in NXT and with them being signed to the Cruiserweight division, we’re probably going to see them more on NXT which is great.

Before the match, we see a video of Tony Nese and Drew Gulak cutting a promo on how they are the best and that No Way Jose and Rich Swann are nobodies compared to them. A good way to show who Tony Nese and Drew Gulak are in case people don’t know about them which is good to see.

Tony Nese and Drew Gulak did great here as they showed their tag team chemistry in the ring. No Way Jose and Rich Swann did great in this match too as they also got to showcase their tag team chemistry and got to show their charisma while they’re at it. Rich Swann’s corkscrew senton on the outside to Tony Nese was beautiful. Great performances by both teams here.

The ending of the match came when No Way Jose hit the cobra clutch slam on Drew Gulak for the pin and win for his team. With that win, No Way Jose and Rich Swann moves on to the quarter-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic as they will face Authors of Pain which should be an interesting match to see.

After the match, No Way Jose and Rich Swann cut a promo saying that The Authors of Pain should not look past them as they did their catchphrases to the crowd. This tag team of No Way Jose and Rich Swann is really getting over and I can tell they’re having a lot of fun with it as well. This is going to be a fun tag team. Even though I don’t think they will win the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, I hope they stay together as a tag team because this tag team can work really well if done right so hopefully, they’ll still team up after the tournament. Can you handle this? No Way Jose!

Great tag team match and I’m looking forward to No Way Jose & Rich Swann Vs. Authors of Pain in the quarter-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

We then heard from Tom Phillips and Corey Graves that Hideo Itami won’t be competing in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic due to a neck injury. Man, that’s horrible. Hideo Itami just came back from his shoulder injury and now he has another injury. It’s a shame. That means we’ll probably won’t get Hideo Itami Vs. Austin Aries at NXT Toronto which is a shame as I was really looking forward to that match. Hope Hideo Itami recovers soon and I wonder who Kota Ibushi’s tag team partner will be in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, I guess we’ll have to see. Get well soon Hideo Itami and rest well.

We then get a recap of what happened last week when Bobby Roode left Tye Dillinger in a tag team match against SAnitY in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. This is good as it shows what happened last week in case people missed it or forgot about it. Not only that, it also ties into the next segment in which I will talk about next.

The backstage promo with Tye Dillinger earlier in the show was good. Tye Dillinger talked about how Bobby Roode isn’t a man of his word and that William Regal is. He then said that he wants to talk to William Regal to get a match with Bobby Roode at NXT Toronto.

So it seems like we’re going to get a match between Tye Dillinger and Bobby Roode at NXT Toronto and if that’s the case, that should be a great match and I hope it happens. We’ll see later on the show. Good backstage promo here.

Just a reminder that NXT is joining the fight for breast cancer and if you want to join, buy the pink shirt at WWEShop.com and help support the cause.

The backstage interview with Austin Aries by Dasha Fuentes was good. Austin Aries was eating a banana as he talked about how he has a mystery partner and people want to know about it. However, Austin Aries wanted to talk about the power of potassium instead of his mystery partner. He then talked about Hideo Itami who has injured his neck and won’t be facing him because he’s afraid of Austin Aries. He then said that his one and only partner will help him win the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic as he left.

Sean Maluta Vs. Bobby Roode was a good match. Sean Maluta has made another appearance on NXT! Mark out moment! Great to see Sean Maluta in NXT again and I hope he gets signed because he has a lot of potential.

Sean Maluta did well in this match as he got to showcase his skills in the ring. His tilt-a-whirl headscissors on Bobby Roode was well executed. Bobby Roode did well in this match too as he got to show why he is glorious in the ring being his usual self. Good performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Bobby Roode his a lifting DDT on Sean Maluta for the pin and win. It seems like the lifting DDT will now be Bobby Roode’s finisher in NXT which I’m fine with, but would love to see the Roode Bomb, but that’s just me. Glorious!

After the match, Bobby Roode cut a promo and said that at NXT Toronto, it will be Tye Dillinger Vs. Bobby Roode! Mark out moment! He then said that Tye Dillinger’s whining and complaining on social confused him as Tye Dillinger was the one that came to him to be his partner in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and he took pity on him because he’s a good man. Bobby Roode then said he was trying to bring Tye Dillinger to his own level, but he couldn’t.

This led to Tye Dillinger coming out as he headed to the ring and brawled with Bobby Roode as Bobby Roode retreated and head up the ramp as Tye Dillinger stared down at Bobby Roode from the ring.

We’re going to get Tye Dillinger Vs. Bobby Roode at NXT Toronto! Yes! This should be a great match between Two Canadians here. Should be a fun one and I can’t wait to hear the reaction for this match and for both men, it’s going to be fun. Looking forward to it.

Good match as I’m looking forward to Tye Dillinger Vs. Bobby Roode at NXT Toronto. Also, NXT, please sign Sean Maluta!

The backstage and promo segment between Liv Morgan, Billie Kay, and Peyton Royce was good. Charly Caruso was interviewing Liv Morgan backstage as she asked Liv Morgan about Peyton Royce helping Billie Kay to beat her last week. Liv Morgan said that she doesn’t make excuses.

As Liv Morgan was about to continue, Billie Kay and Peyton Royce attacked Liv Morgan from behind as they dragged her to the entrance ramp and beat Liv Morgan up where Peyton Royce finished Liv Morgan up with a kick to the head. Billie Kay then grabbed a mic and said that Liv Morgan was about to complain, but they have taken care of that. She then gave the mic to Peyton Royce as Peyton Royce said that they’re putting the women of NXT on notice including Asuka as this division is theirs and they left.

It seems like the heat between Liv Morgan, Billie Kay, and Peyton Royce is growing more each day and it seems like it will eventually lead to a tag team match where Liv Morgan will find a tag team partner to face Billie Kay and Peyton Royce with her. Who will she team up with? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Good backstage and promo segment as I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next in this feud between Liv Morgan, Billie Kay, and Peyton Royce.

NXT is coming to New Zealand for the first time ever in December so get your tickets now before it’s too late and see NXT live!

Heavy Machinery Vs. Generation Next was a good tag team match. Before the match when Heavy Machinery were making their entrance, we see a video of them as they talk about that they’re hungry and they’re ready to win. Good promo from Heavy Machinery here as it seems like they have charisma and characters which is nice to see. They’re hungry and they’re ready to eat!

After Austin Aries made his entrance, the mystery partner was revealed and it turned out to be Roderick Strong! Mark out moment! Roderick Strong is one of the best wrestlers in the world who is known for his work in ROH and now he’s here in NXT! I like how his entrance theme is similar to his ROH theme which is nice to hear. Also, I love the fact that NXT let Roderick Strong keep his name which is another big plus to me. Not only that, Generation Next has reunited in NXT!

Heavy Machinery did well here as they got to show their tag team chemistry in the ring. Now, we have seen Tucker Knight in NXT before and we have an idea on what he’s capable of as he’s a very agile big man. However, Otis Dozovic was very impressive as well as he’s also very agile for a man his size. Love the work they put on here and I would love to see more of them in the future.

Generation Next did well in this match too as they show that they still have that tag team chemistry with each other despite not teaming up for a long time. It’s great to see that NXT is letting Roderick Strong be Roderick Strong as he moves like himself in the ring during his run in ROH. Good performances by both teams here.

The ending of the match came when Roderick Strong hit Tucker Knight with the Fireman’s Carry Double Knee Gutbuster followed by the Running Single Leg Dropkick for the pin and win. Great to see that Roderick Strong is still using his finishers in NXT which is nice to see. With that win, Generation Next moves on to the quarter-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic as they will face TM-61 which should be a great tag team match.

Good tag team match as I’m looking forward to TM-61 Vs. Generation Next in the quarter-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

We then see a recap of what happened two weeks ago as Andrade “Cien” Almas turned on Cedric Alexander after their tag team match against The Revival in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. This is good as it shows what happened two weeks ago in case people missed it or forgot about it. Plus, it ties into the next segment in which I will talk about next.

The sitdown interview with Andrade “Cien” Almas with Andrea D’Marco was good. Andrade “Cien” Almas was speaking Spanish as he talked about his recent attitude change while Andrea D’Marco was translating for him until Andrade “Cien” Almas began to speak in English. He feels that no one is giving him respect from anyone even though he deserves it and from now on, he doesn’t care about it anymore.

Loving the new heel turn of Andrade “Cien” Almas as it reminds me of his Los Ingobernables character in CMLL. I can’t wait to see Cedric Alexander Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas and hopefully we will get it at NXT Toronto, but we’ll see. Good sitdown interview here.

Danielle Kamella Vs. Nikki Cross was a good women’s squash match. Danielle Kamela didn’t get much offense here as Nikki Cross completely dominated here as she got to showcase her character in the ring which is sanity.

The ending of the match came when Nikki Cross hit Danielle Kamella with the Swinging Fisherman’s Neckbreaker for the pin and win. Nice finisher from Nikki Cross there and it’s great to see her getting a push in NXT as she’s very talented. Good win for her.

After the match, SAnitY celebrated in the ring until Nikki Cross began to beat up Danielle Kamela. Eric Young tried to stop Nikki Cross, but Nikki Cross ended up punching Eric Young in the face as she continued beating up Danielle Kamela. As a result, this led to the referees reversing the decision and that Danielle Kamela was the winner of the match as SAnitY goes sanity.

Well, that victory for Nikki Cross didn’t last long, but hey, SAnitY made a big impression here and I like it. They’re going to be a huge force in NXT and I can’t wait to see what’s next for them. Also, their mannerisms in the ring are fantastic. Love the characters they’re playing so far. They’re great. SAnitY!

Good women’s squash match and I can’t wait to see what’s next for SAnitY in NXT.

We get the announcement that next week, it will be #DIY Vs. HoHo Lun & Tian Bing and TJ Perkins & Kota Ibushi Vs. Lince Dorado & Mustafa Ali in the first round matches of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Should be fun tag team matches next week. Looking forward to them.

The promo segment between Shinsuke Nakamura, Patrick Clark, and Samoa Joe was good. It was announced during commentary by Tom Phillips and Corey Graves that Shinsuke Nakamura Vs. Samoa Joe for the NXT Championship will take place at NXT Toronto. Awesome! Should be an excellent match between the two. Looking forward to it.

Shinsuke Nakamura came out to the ring and asked Samoa Joe if he wants his NXT Championship and if so, come get it because he wants him no matter what. This led to Patrick Clark coming out as he said that Samoa Joe almost ended Shinsuke Nakamura’s career so it would be better if people get to see the Patrick Clark experience instead.

Patrick Clark then entered the ring as he began to trash talk to Shinsuke Nakamura until Shinsuke Nakamura knocked Patrick Clark to the ground. Samoa Joe then quietly walked down the ramp as the referees tended to Patrick Clark, but Shinsuke Nakamura ended up hitting Patrick Clark with the Kinshasa as Samoa Joe stared at Shinsuke Nakamura from ringside.

It’s great to see Patrick Clark working with someone like Shinsuke Nakamura which should have been a honor to him, but he shouldn’t have messed with him and he payed the price. I can’t wait to see Shinsuke Nakamura and Samoa Joe face each other at NXT Toronto. Should be an excellent match and I expect it to be brutal. Looking forward to it. YeaOh!

Good promo segment as I’m looking forward to Shinsuke Nakamura Vs. Samoa Joe for the NXT Championship at NXT Toronto.

Overall, great show that is building up NXT Toronto in four weeks. Next week, we’re going to see #DIY Vs. HoHo Lun & Tian Bing and TJ Perkins & Kota Ibushi Vs. Lince Dorado & Mustafa Ali in first round matches of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
