NXT 11/2/16 Review: Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is SAnitY

NXT on November 2, 2016 was a good show that is building up NXT Toronto in two weeks. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with Charly Caruso who went over the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic as the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic went on the road once again on tour just like they did last year. It’s cool to see that the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is back on the road again as they did this last year with the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. It’s a shame that we might only see highlights of the matches again, but we’ll see. An interesting way to start off the show to get an update on the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Shane Thorne Vs. Roderick Strong in the quarter-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic was an excellent match. Mark out moment! This match was taped in San Jose and I saw this match live and I have to say it was awesome. I won’t go into detail with my live experience as I will probably do that in a future Wrestling Live Experience down the road. Anyway, back to the match.

Before the match started, we see Austin Aries not wearing his in-ring gear as he grabbed a mic and said that he won’t be competing as he suffered an eye injury in a NXT live event as he took his sunglasses to show his injured eye and it looked nasty. Austin Aries then said that he wanted to compete, but the NXT officials told him no. Austin Aries then told TM-61 that they should forfeit and save themselves the embarrassment of a beating and a loss in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

This led to William Regal coming out and he said that Austin Aries can’t compete due to his eye injury. As a result, he makes a singles match between a member of TM-61 and Roderick Strong where the winner will have their team move on to the semi-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic as Shane Thorne was representing TM-61 in this match. It’s very unfortunate that Austin Aries got injured as TM-61 Vs. Generation Next would have been an excellent tag team match. Hopefully, we will see that match one day, but this match between Shane Thorne and Roderick Strong was excellent.

Roderick Strong was excellent in this match as he was being himself in this match. He is called “The Messiah of the Backbreaker” for a reason as his backbreakers to Shane Thorne were lethal. Shane Thorne was excellent in this match too as he showed that he’s not just a tag team wrestler and he can hang with the best singles wrestlers in the world. His dropkick to Roderick Strong was beautiful. Excellent performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Roderick Strong hit a sliding dropkick to Nick Miller to the outside as Nick Miller was approaching Austin Aries. This led to Shane Thorne rolling up Roderick Strong for a small package for the pin and win. With this win, TM-61 moves on to the semi-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Excellent match and I can’t wait to see which team will face TM-61 in the semi-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Come Back For More by Turnstile will be a theme for NXT Toronto and it’s a good song. NXT Toronto is just two weeks away and I can’t wait to see it. Should be a great show.

#DIY Vs. The Revival in the quarter-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic never happened as when #DIY made their entrances to the ring, The Revival did their entrance, but we see Scott Dawson with crutches as they began to speak on the mic.

Scott Dawson said that the doctors told him that he has multiple knee injuries and if he was a normal Joe Blow like #DIY, he would be crippled, but he said it’s not going to happen. He then said that he would love to beat up #DIY, but the doctors told him that his career would be over if he does fight. Therefore, Scott Dawson announced that The Revival are pulled out of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Dash Wilder then said to #DIY to not be upset as this was their golden ticket to the semi-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and he told them that they’re saving them from losing again to The Revival as they left with #DIY not being pleased with the result.

Man, it’s a shame that Scott Dawson got that injury as I was really looking forward to #DIY Vs. The Revival. Hopefully, Scott Dawson will recover soon so we can get #DIY Vs. The Revival again down the road. Top guys out!

Great promo from The Revival as #DIY moves on to the semi-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

The backstage interview with Cedric Alexander by Dasha Fuentes was good. Cedric Alexander talked about how he needs a mean streak in order to survive in NXT as he wanted to thank Andrade “Cien” Almas for it, any time, any place.

It seems like we’re going to get another match between Cedric Alexander and Andrade “Cien” Almas down the road which should be great as these two have great chemistry with each other. Hopefully, their match will happen at NXT Toronto, but we’ll see as time goes on. Good backstage interview here.

We then get a vignette that says “The Return“. Very interesting vignette here as it seems like someone is making their return to NXT soon whether that person was injured or have been released in the past. Either way, I’m intrigued by this and I can’t wait to see who it is. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Just a reminder that Devil’s Calling by Parkway Drive is a theme for NXT Toronto and it’s a good song. NXT Toronto is just two weeks away and I can’t wait to see it. Should be a great show.

No Way Jose & Rich Swann Vs. Authors of Pain in the quarter-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic was a good tag team match. This match was taped in San Jose and I saw this match live and I have to say it was awesome. I won’t go into detail with my live experience as I will probably do that in a future Wrestling Live Experience down the road. Anyway, back to the match.

No Way Jose & Rich Swann did well in this match as they got to show their tag team chemistry in the ring and with their charisma. The corkscrew senton by Rich Swann onto Rezar to the outside and No Way Jose with the TKO on Akam were well executed. Authors of Pain did well in this match too showcasing their strength, agility, and power in this match. Also, it was cool to see Paul Ellering to get involved in the match as well as he hasn’t been involved in any match until now. Good performances by both teams here.

The ending of the match came when Authors of Pain hit Last Chapter on No Way Jose for the pin and win. With that win, Authors of Pain will move on to the semi-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic as they will face #DIY which should be an interesting match to see.

Good tag team match and I’m looking forward to #DIY Vs. Authors of Pain in the semi-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

NXT is coming to Japan for the first time ever in December so get your tickets now before it’s too late and see NXT live!

We then get a video package of Mickie James throughout her WWE career and that she wants the NXT Women’s Championship. I can’t wait to see the return of Mickie James in WWE especially in NXT where I think her match against Asuka at NXT Toronto for the NXT Women’s Championship should be great. Looking forward to their match at NXT Toronto. Hardcore Country!

It was announced that next week, it will be #DIY Vs. Authors of Pain in a semi-final match in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Should be an interesting tag team match next week. Looking forward to it.

TJ Perkins & Kota Ibushi Vs. SAnitY in the quarter-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic was a great tag team match. Both of these teams went out there and delivered a great tag team match where neither team look weak in the process.

TJ Perkins & Kota Ibushi did great in this match as they showed some great tag team chemistry in the ring. Kota Ibushi with his Asai Moonsault from the middle rope to the outside on Alexander Wolfe looked beautiful. SAnitY did great in this tag team match as well as they also got to showcase their tag team chemistry in the ring as well. Their knee strike/gutwrench suplex combination on TJ Perkins was well executed. Great performances by both teams here.

The ending of the match came when Eric Young and Nikki Cross distracted the referee which led to SAnitY hitting the vertical suplex/front powerslam combination on Kota Ibushi from behind the referee’s back for the pin and win. With that win, SAnitY will move on to the semi-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic as they will face TM-61 which should be an interesting match to see.

Great tag team match and I’m looking forward to TM-61 Vs. SAnitY in the semi-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Overall, good show that is building up NXT Toronto in two weeks. Next week, we’re going to see #DIY Vs. Authors of Pain in a semi-final match of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
