NXT Showcase: Bayley

Topic/Subject: Today, I will be showing a match that involves a woman that loves to hug.

Wrestler: “The Doctor of Huganomics” Bayley (Davina Rose).

Background Information: Bayley is from San Jose, California. She states she has been a fan of professional wrestling since the age of eleven. Drawn to athletics, she has competed in track, basketball, martial arts, and has even done juggling and pogo sticking. At age 18, she began seriously training for professional wrestling.

She had been attending shows by Big Time Wrestling (BTW), a professional wrestling promotion in Northern California, since she was 11.

She started her professional wrestling career at the age of 18 in April 2008 by attending Big Time Wrestling’s training classes by her head trainer Jason Styles which was one of the reasons why she considered Big Time Wrestling as her home promotion. She had her first match in September 2008.

On the American independent circuit, she wrestled under the ring name Davina Rose. From 2011 to 2012, she branched out to wrestle for other promotions like NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood and Shine Wrestling.

She first met her mentor Serena in October 2010 when they teamed together for a tag team match.

When she made her debut for Shimmer Women Athletes in October 2011 at the tapings of Shimmer Volume 41-44; she became embroiled in Serena’s feud with the Canadian Ninjas (Portia Perez and Nicole Matthews). At the tapings, she lost all four matches wrestled including her debut match to Mercedes Martinez.

She continued to wrestle for Shimmer in 2012 and she received her first victory on Volume 48 as she teamed with Mia Yim to defeat Melanie Cruise and Mena Libra; on Volumes 51 and 52, she picked up her first two singles victories in Shimmer with wins over Cherry Bomb and Rhia O’Reilly.

She joined the WWE in early 2013, appearing on the NXT program under the name of Bayley. She wrestled her first match on NXT on February 21, 2013, losing to Paige.

On May 1, 2014, on an episode of NXT, she failed to advance in the tournament for the vacant NXT Women’s Championship after losing to Banks in the first round.

On September 25, 2014, on an edition of NXT, she defeated Alexa Bliss in singles action and later challenged Charlotte to a rematch for the NXT Women’s Championship in which she lost on the following week.

She began an angle with Emma on March 4, 2015, on an episode of NXT, where Emma began mocking her kindness and stating that it kept her from winning the NXT Women’s Championship leaving Emma in the process of turning heel.

After some hiatus due to a broken hand, she returned to NXT on July 22, 2015, where she defeated Emma and announced her goal to become the next NXT Women’s Champion.

Throughout her NXT career, she became a NXT Women’s Champion.

On July 24, 2016, at WWE Battleground, she made her WWE main roster and pay-per-view debut in a one-off appearance as Sasha Banks’s mystery tag team partner defeating Charlotte and Dana Brooke.

On August 22, 2016, on an episode of Raw, she officially debuted on the main roster and challenged the WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte for her title with Charrlotte denying the challenge and instead volunteered her protege Dana Brooke to face her instead. She won and challenged Charlotte for the title at Clash of Champions. That match resulted into a Triple Threat alongside Sasha Banks in which Charlotte retained.

She still competes in the WWE today and is part of the Raw brand.

She cites Randy Savage, The Rock, The Hardy Boyz, Lita, Ivory, Victoria and Triple H as her influences in wrestling. She enjoys juggling, pogo sticking and playing basketball.

My Thoughts: Bayley is a very talented individual that has worked hard to get where she is today. She has a good look, she has a presence about her in and outside of the ring that makes you adore her, she has a great character, good charisma, and she’s an excellent wrestler in the ring. Heeeeey, we want some Bayley!

Video: This video contains a match between Bayley and Asuka at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II on August 20, 2016.

My Thoughts: This was an excellent match where Bayley got to showcase her skills in the ring. This match was Bayley’s last match in NXT before moving up to the main roster.

The video package leading up to the match in the video was great as it shows how much the NXT Women’s Championship means to Bayley and it also shows who Bayley is as a character in case people don’t watch NXT on a regular basis so this was great.

Bayley did excellent in this match as she tried everything in her power to take down the unstoppable Asuka and I thought she did pretty well for herself as there were certain points in the match where she almost beat Asuka and it was believable. The spot where she hit the Belly to Bayley on Asuka out of nowhere is where I thought she would have won the match, but Asuka kicked out. Plus, her resilience and heart throughout this match is just incredible as she never gives up despite the punishment she had to go through in this match. Excellent performance by Bayley here.

Even though Bayley lost this match, she looked excellent in defeat as she took Asuka to her limit and at one point, she even begged Asuka for more as she got kicked by Asuka in the head, but she still wanted more before getting kicked in the head once again which led to her loss. Not only that, the way she went out with her showing respect to Asuka as well as hugging Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, Charlotte, her mother, and Izzy was a very special moment as this happened to be her last match in NXT. Bayley went out with a bang in that match and I have nothing, but respect for her.

Excellent match where Bayley gave it her all in her last match in NXT before moving up to the main roster of WWE.

Bayley is a character that you can’t just hate because she is lovable in every single way. It’s amazing how much Bayley has evolved throughout her years in NXT. She first started out as enhancement talent who had no character at the time where she eventually became “The Doctor of Huganomics” Bayley who was still jobbing at the time. Eventually, she started to get over with the crowd where she started to get wins. After all of her hard work, she finally got to show that she can win the big one and proved that an underdog can become a champion. She did exactly and I can’t be more proud of her.

Hopefully, WWE will use her well because Bayley can be a great asset to the company because I know she can do it and she can prove it if you just give her the chance. I hope WWE doesn’t ruin her because she can be a great benefit to WWE. Heeeeey, we want some Bayley!

After watching the video, give me your thoughts on the video or the wrestler herself. Thank you.
