NXT 12/7/16 Review: Osaka Japan, YeaOh!

Published

on

NXT on December 7, 2016 was a good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package hyping up Samoa Joe Vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for the NXT Championship at Osaka, Japan last Saturday later on the show. This is good as it shows people what’s going to happen later on the show and gets people hyped for it. Should be an excellent match. Looking forward to it. Well done video package here.

The promo segment between #DIY, Authors of Pain, and The Revival was good. #DIY were out as they were celebrating their championship win with the crowd for a few minutes before heading back to the ring and they were about to speak until Authors of Pain showed up along with Paul Ellering.

Paul Ellering told #DIY that Authors of Pain have won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic as he talked about their accomplishments and said that #DIY’s celebration is premature. As he was about to continue, The Revival showed up as they stare at Authors of Pain and they began to speak while walking up the ramp.

Dash Wilder said that The Revival are the true #1 Contenders and Scott Dawson said that the tag team revolution started all because of The Revival. Authors of Pain then walked up the ramp and stared down with The Revival as they shove The Revival as The Revival began to back off. Paul Ellering then said that the next chapter of the revolution will be written by the future NXT Tag Team Champions, Authors of Pain as they pose on the stage as #DIY stared them down.

It’s a shame that we didn’t get to hear #DIY about their title win, but it’s fine as they might do it eventually. It seems like we may get a three way tag team match between these three teams for the NXT Tag Team Championships in the future, but we’ll see. Either way, the tag team division in NXT is heating up and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next for all of these three teams in the future. Top guys out!

Good promo segment here as I’m interested to seeing what’s next for #DIY, Authors of Pain, and The Revival in NXT.

We then get a vignette of Percy Watson of his whole NXT career as he’s making his return to NXT in the commentary booth! Mark out moment! For those of you who don’t know, Percy Watson was a part of NXT back in 2010 when NXT was a reality TV show and he was part of the second season of that show. He got released three years later and went to the independent circuit. However, now he’s back and he’s on the commentary team! Great to see him back and I think the commentary team of Tom Phillips, Corey Graves, and Percy Watson should be good. Welcome back Percy Watson! Oh yeah!

No Way Jose & Rich Swann Vs. SAnitY was a good tag team match. When SAnitY were making their entrance, only Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe, and Nikki Cross appeared as Sawyer Fulton was nowhere to be found as Eric Young had his jacket with him as he threw it in the ground and began to spit on it before throwing it out of the ring.

Apparently, Sawyer Fulton suffered an injury which will likely cause him several months out of action so this was a way for NXT to write off Sawyer Fulton until he recovers from injury. It’s a shame really as they were on a roll as of late. I wish Sawyer Fulton a speedy recover and hope he recovers from injury. Anyway, let’s get back to the match.

No Way Jose & Rich Swann did well in this match as they got their tag team chemistry in the ring. The assisted hurricanrana from No Way Jose and Rich Swann on Alexander Wolfe was cool to see and Rich Swann’s corkscrew senton to the outside on Alexander Wolfe was cool as well. SAnitY did well in this match too as they show their dominance despite losing one member. Alexander Wolfe’s antics in the ring were fantastic as he played his character very well. Good performances by both teams here.

The ending of the match came when Big Damo came in and pushed No Way Jose to the ring-post as Alexander Wolfe stared at him as he rolled No Way Jose back in the ring where Eric Young finished him off with the wheelbarrow position transitioned into an elevated neckbreaker for the pin and win. Big Damo has made his debut for NXT! Mark out moment! For those of you who don’t know, Big Damo is a great big man wrestler for his size as he’s well known for his work in ICW, PROGRESS, and RPW. Great to see Big Damo finally making his NXT debut and a lot sooner than expected too. Very happy for him.

After the match, Big Damo picked up the vest that belonged to Sawyer Fulton and threw it on the ground before walking away as SAnitY looked confused with Eric Young smiling.

It seems like Big Damo may join SAnitY in the future and with Sawyer Fulton being out for the moment, Big Damo would be a good replacement for him as I think he could fit well in SAnitY. We’ll see how this storyline goes as we progress. Looking forward to it.

Good tag team match and I’m interested to see what’s going to happen between SAnitY and Big Damo going forward.

We then get an announcement from William Regal from his office saying that on January 11, on an episode of NXT, it will be #DIY Vs. The Revival for the NXT Tag Team Championships where the winners will defend their titles against Authors of Pain at NXT San Antonio.

It’s cool to see that William Regal is already hyping up NXT San Antonio which is great to see as you want to build up to your big shows and William Regal is doing exactly that. I’m looking forward to #DIY Vs. The Revival for the NXT Tag Team Championships on January 11. Should be an excellent tag team match. Can’t wait.

The backstage segment between Tye Dillinger and William Regal was good. After William Regal made the announcement about the tag team division, Tye Dillinger came in and told William Regal that maybe he doesn’t belong in NXT after losing to Samoa Joe last week. William Regal stopped him and told him that he’s starting a tournament to determine a #1 Contender for the NXT Championship. It will start next week where there will be four singles matches and the winner of those singles matches will face each other in a fatal four way match. William Regal then told Tye Dilliner despite him losing as of late, he still believes in him as Tye Dillinger agrees as he left. William Regal then put on his brass knuckles the moment Tye Dillinger left.

I wonder what the brass knuckles is about from William Regal. Is he coming back to the ring? Who knows. Regardless, the tournament to crown a new #1 Contender should be interesting next week and I’m glad that Tye Dillinger is still in NXT because I feel that he should get his big win. Looking forward to it next week. Ten! Good backstage segment here.

The backstage segment between SAnitY and Asuka was good. SAnitY was walking backstage as they ignore Kayla Braxton as Nikki Cross stared at the NXT Women’s Championship and smiled at it, but she stopped the moment Asuka came in to retrieve it.

It seems like we’ll be getting a future feud between Asuka and Nikki Cross which is fine by me as Asuka needs a new opponent for her NXT Women’s Championship and Nikki Cross seems to be a good candidate for that. Looking forward to that feud when it comes. Should be awesome. Good backstage segment here.

Ember Moon Vs. Kimber Lee was a good women’s match. Oh my god, Kimber Lee has made an appearance on NXT! Mark out moment! For those of you who don’t know, Kimber Lee is a women’s wrestler who is well known for her work in Chikara so seeing her here is great. Hope she gets signed as I think she could do well in the NXT women’s division. NXT, please sign her!

Kimber Lee did well in this match as she got some offense in this match which was nice to see. Ember Moon did well in this match too as she continues to show her in-ring skills. Good performances by both women here.

The ending of the match came when Ember Moon hit the diving corkscrew stunner on Kimber Lee for the pin and win. Kimber Lee sold that diving corkscrew stunner pretty well and Ember Moon continues to looked strong as I can see her going after the NXT Women’s Championship in the near future. Burn yeah!

Good women’s match as I’m interested to see what’s next for Ember Moon in NXT and NXT, please sign Kimber Lee!

It has been announced that next week, we’re going to get Tye Dillinger Vs. Eric Young, No Way Jose Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas, Roderick Strong Vs. Elias Samson, and Oney Lorcan Vs. Bobby Roode in #1 Contender qualifying matches. The matches for next week look good. Looking forward to next week’s show. Should be fun.

Samoa Joe Vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for the NXT Championship was a great match. The match took place in the Edion Arena in Osaka, Japan and the crowd was relatively good as they were quiet throughout the match as they were showing their respect to the wrestlers in the ring and pop when something big happens so a good crowd from Osaka, Japan here for NXT.

Unfortunately, this match wasn’t as excellent compared to their match at NXT Brooklyn II and NXT Toronto, but it was still great as both men fought hard and took each other to their limit.

Samoa Joe did great in this match as he continued to show his dominance inside the ring. His scoop powerslam on Shinsuke Nakamura when Shinsuke Nakamura was about to go for the Kinshasa was well executed. Shinsuke Nakamura did great in this match too as he tried to regain his NXT Championship. His release German suplex on Samoa Joe was impressive. Great performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Shinsuke Nakamura hit a Kinshasa on Samoa Joe for the pin and win as Shinsuke Nakamura is your new NXT Champion. A great win for Shinsuke Nakamura in his home country of Japan. I questioned why NXT didn’t let Shinsuke Nakamura win the NXT Championship until they got into Osaka, Japan instead of NXT Brooklyn II, but we got a great feud and matches from it so I guess it was worth it. Congratulations to Shinsuke Nakamura for regaining his NXT Championship.

Great match and congratulations to Shinsuke Nakamura for being the second man to hold the NXT Championship twice in NXT.

We then get an announcement from Charly Caruso that next week, we’ll see Shinsuke Nakamura Vs. Samoa Joe for the NXT Championship in a steel cage match in Melbourne, Australia! Mark out moment! We’re going to get one more match between Shinsuke Nakamura and Samoa Joe in NXT and it will be in a steel cage match. This will be the second steel cage match in NXT history so this match between them should be excellent and the crowd in Melbourne should be great as well. Looking forward to it. YeaOh!

Overall, good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we’re going to have four #1 Contender Qualifying matches as we’ll get Tye Dilliner Vs. Eric Young, No Way Jose Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas, Roderick Strong Vs. Elias Samson, and Oney Lorcan Vs. Bobby Roode which should be interesting to see. NXT! NXT! NXT!
