Lucha Underground 12/14/16 Review: The Darewolf Became The Bull

Lucha Underground on December 14, 2016 was a great show that is building feuds and storylines for the future as well as building up new characters which is good. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a recap of what happened between Angelico, Dario Cueto, Drago, Kobra Moon, Matanza, Rey Mysterio, Dragon Azteca Jr., Sexy Star, and Worldwide Underground earlier in the season of Lucha Underground Season 3. This is a good way to remind people about what happened during that time in case they missed it or forgot about it as this week, the people from the recap appeared on the show. Well done and well produced.

Killshot Vs. Jeremiah Crane Vs. Dante Fox Vs. Mariposa in a Battle of the Bulls Tournament match was excellent. Mark out moment! All of these four individuals in this match did excellent here as they put their bodies on the line in order to be in the finals of the Battle of the Bulls Tournament.

There were so many spots in this match where I thought the match was over as this match was all over the place. The Tower of Doom spot where Jeremiah Crane and Dante Fox hit a double superplex on Killshot with Mariposa doing a double one-arm powebomb on Jeremiah Crane, Dante Fox, and Killshot onto a pile of chairs was insane. Mariposa’s Back-to-Back Double Underhook Piledriver on Killshot on the chair looked painful and devastating. Excellent performances by all four individuals here.

The ending of the match came when Jeremiah Crane hit Dante Fox with a double underhook piledriver for the pin and win. An amazing win for Jeremiah Crane here as he looked extremely impressive in this match. He should do well in the finals of the Battle of the Bulls Tournament next week.

After the match, Dante Fox was down as Killshot was about to help him up, but ended up kicking Dante Fox in the head followed by a diving foot double stomp to finish Dante Fox off.

It seems like the feud between Killshot and Dante Fox is far from over and it will be interesting to see where it goes from here. Whatever they do next in this feud, it should be good and I’m expecting some kind of stipulation for this match, but we’ll see.

Excellent four way match and good post-match. With that, Jeremiah Crane moves on in the Battle of the Bulls Tournament.

The backstage segment with Worldwide Underground was good. Taya was filming Jack Evans and PJ Black as they were talking about Worldwide Underground until Johnny Mundo showed up. Johnny Mundo then asked Jack Evans and PJ Black on why they’re not preparing for their match later on the show as they lost to Sexy Star expect him. He then told them that if that they don’t win, then they have to give up their bandanas and find new members to replace them as he left.

It seems like Johnny Mundo is very serious about Jack Evans and PJ Black here as if they don’t win, they’re done with Worldwide Underground. I hope they don’t lose as they’re doing great in Worldwide Underground thus far and I don’t want to see it end. We’ll see where this storyline goes from here. Good backstage segment here.

The backstage segment with Sexy Star was good. Sexy Star was training backstage getting ready for her title match against Johnny Mundo for the Lucha Underground Championship inside a steel cage next week. After her training, she went into her locker and discovered a big spider in her locker room where she later became pissed off.

It seemed like someone is playing mind games with Sexy Star before her big title rematch. Who would put the big spider in Sexy Star’s locker room and why? Hopefully, we’ll get answers soon. Good backstage segment here.

Drago Vs. Kobra Moon was a good match for what it was. After Kobra Moon trying to bring back Drago to her side, it all led to this match where Drago wanted to silence and end Kobra Moon once and for all.

However, the match didn’t last long as Pindar came in and hit a pop-up powerbomb on Drago which caused a disqualification! Oh my god! Pindar has made an appearance in Lucha Underground! Mark out moment! For those of you who don’t know, Pindar is known as Steve Pain who has wrestled in AAA from 2013 to 2015 and UIPW. It’s great to see Pindar on TV because he’s very talented for a man his size. Very happy for him.

Also, this was a good way to protect Kobra Moon from getting a clean loss from Drago and giving a Drago a win so I was fine with the way the finish went. However, I wished the match went on a little longer, but they managed to accomplish what they needed to do here so I was fine with the finish.

After the attack from Pindar, Fenix and Aerostar came in to protect Drago as Aerostar hit a tilt-a-whirl jumping DDT on Pindar to knock him out. Kobra Moon then called in Vibora to take out Fenix and Aerostar as Vibora cleaned house on them as he hit Aerostar with a bicycle kick and Fenix with a big boot followed by a double chokeslam. Vidora then hit Drago with a belly-to-belly kneeling piledriver as The Snake Tribe took Drago with them to the back.

Oh my god, Vibora has made an appearance on Lucha Underground! Mark out moment! For those of you who don’t know, Vibora is known as Judas Devlin who had a brief run in NXT back in 2012 and 2013 before being released. Since then, he has improved a lot and now he’s in Lucha Underground! The way he dominated Super Friends here was great to see. A nice way to make Vidora look strong.

It seems like The Snake Tribe is trying to make Drago return to them as they were trying to for the past few months. It will be interesting to see how this will play out and what The Snake Tribe will do to Drago. Looking forward to it.

Good match for what it was and great-post match as I’m interested to see what’s next for Super Friends and The Snake Tribe in Lucha Underground.

The backstage segment between Sexy Star and Mariposa was good. Sexy Star was walking backstage all pissed off as she bumped into Mariposa as Mariposa grabbed Sexy Star’s hair, but Sexy Star fought back and drove Mariposa to the corner. Sexy Star then accused Mariposa for putting the spider in her locker room, but Mariposa denied it. Sexy Star then tried to punch Mariposa, but Mariposa escaped as Sexy Star ended up punching through the wall instead.

Mariposa, I suggest not messing up with Sexy Star or else you will get a hole in your face just like the wall did. So did Mariposa put the spider in her locker room or was she telling the truth about not doing it? Either way, I have a feeling that the feud between Sexy Star and Mariposa may reignite because of this, but we’ll see. Good backstage segment here.

Angelico Vs. Son of Havoc Vs. PJ Black Vs. Jack Evans in a Battle of the Bulls Tournament match was excellent. Mark out moment! Just like the other Battle of the Bull Tournament matches, all of these four competitors gave everything they had in this match and they delivered.

Not only that, Angelico has made his in-ring return to Lucha Underground! Mark out moment! It’s been so long since we have last seen Angelico wrestle in Lucha Underground so it’s great to see him back in action.

Everyone did excellent in this match and Angelico still got it in Lucha Underground despite not wrestling there since Season 2 of Lucha Underground. It was also nice to see Son of Havoc and Angelico teaming up in certain parts of the match as they have history with each other as The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs in Season 1 and Season 2 with Ivelisse. Worldwide Underground worked together well in this match too with the Electric Chair Drop/Diving Clothesline combination on Son of Havoc. Excellent performances by all four men here.

The ending of the match came when PJ Black told Jack Evans to pin him, but when Jack Evans was about to pin PJ Black, PJ Black then pin Jack Evans with an inside cradle for the win. PJ Black then extended his hand for a handshake with Jack Evans and Jack Evans was about to shake it, but PJ Black pulled it back as he laughed at Jack Evans while Jack Evans got pissed off.

Wow, PJ Black was being a butthole to Jack Evans there. Not cool. I really hope this doesn’t mean the end of Worldwide Underground here as I said before, they’re great together so I hope they don’t break up because of this. Either way, the finals of the Battle of the Bulls Tournament looks great with Cage, The Mack, Jeremiah Crane, and PJ Black so it should be a great four way match between the four of them next week. Looking forward to it. *Darewolf howl*

Excellent four way match and with that, PJ Black moves on in the Battle of the Bulls Tournament.

The video segment between Dragon Azteca Jr. and Rey Mysterio was good. Dragon Azteca Jr. went into Rey Mysterio’s room and told him that Matanza is coming for him as he helped Rey Mysterio up. Rey Mysterio then blamed himself for the attack that Dragon Azteca Jr. got from Matanza, but Dragon Azteca Jr. instead thank Rey Mysterio for the attack because he now understands his destiny.

Rey Mysterio then told Dragon Azteca Jr. that this is a fight that he can’t win as Dragon Azteca Jr. told Rey Mysterio that it’s not a fight. Rey Mysterio then told Dragon Azteca Jr. that this is his fight and not his while Dragon Azteca Jr. told Rey Mysterio that the days of telling him what to do are over as he plans on ending Matanza’s life as he leaves.

Dragon Azteca Jr., Rey Mysterio, you guys are making a huge mistake for messing with Matanza and now you’re going to pay the price. It will be interesting to see how Dragon Azteca Jr. and Rey Mysterio will fight against Matanza, but we’ll see. Good backstage segment here.

Overall, great show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. So many storylines and feuds here and I love it! Next week, we’re going to have Cage Vs. The Mack Vs. Jeremiah Crane Vs. PJ Black in the finals of the Battle of the Bulls Tournament and Johnny Mundo Vs. Sexy Star in a steel cage match for the Lucha Underground Championship which should be great. Looking forward to it. If you haven’t already, please check out Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
