Lucha Underground 4/27/16 Review: Time to Take Flight!

Lucha Underground on April 27, 2016 was a good show that is building feuds and storylines for the future as well as building up new characters which is good, and ending a feud that has been going on for months. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a recap of what happened between the participants in the Trios Tournament, Dario Cueto, Cage, Taya, and Johnny Mundo earlier in the season of Lucha Underground Season 2. This is a good way to remind people about what happened during that time in case they missed it or forgot about it as this week, the people from the recap appeared on the show. Well done and well produced.

Matt Striker and Vampiro announced that after what happened last week, Mil Muertes and Matanza will return to action soon. Great to hear as both Mil Muertes and Matanza are beasts and they’re excellent, but I expect them to come back sooner rather than later because these two are monsters. I can’t wait to see Mil Muertes and Matanza return to Lucha Underground, it should be amazing.

Cage Vs. Johnny Mundo in a Steel Cage match for the Gift of the Gods Aztec Medallion was great. Both men went out and delivered a very hard hitting Steel Cage match with a lot of memorable spots and moments in this match.

Johnny Mundo was being that sleazy heel that will do whatever it takes to win the match as he uses kendo sticks, a steel chair to Cage’s head, and he even uses Taya to try to get the victory. Love the work that Johnny Mundo did in this match, it was insane. Big props to him.

Speaking of Taya, she got involved in this match a lot, but putting her in the mix makes the match even more intriguing. That dive she did on the steel cage was very impressive. Big props to her for doing that. She did her role well here.

However, the MVP of this match to me was Cage. Man, when he says he’s not a man, he’s a machine, he really means it. I mean holy shoot, he took many bumps in this match as he took multiple kendo stick shots, a chair shot to the head, and a diving crossbody by Taya from the top to the cage. Even after all of that, he managed to survive all of the beating he took and came out on top.

Also, I really thought that Cage got some kind of concussion there with the chair shot to the head, but it seems like he’s perfectly fine which is insane. At the same time though, he is not a man, he’s a machine!

Plus, that vertical suplex piledriver that he did to Johnny Mundo on the steel chair was awesome. Love that move and he got the win.

After this match, it seems like the feud between Cage and Johnny Mundo as Cage is now moving on to get the Gift of the Gods Championship as he won the third Aztec medallion. So far, we have Texano, Aero Star, and Cage with Aztec medallions. Who will be the last four? I guess we’ll find out sooner rather than later.

Great steel cage match and I’m looking forward to see what’s next for Cage and Johnny Mundo in Lucha Underground.

Before we have the Four Way Trios match for the Lucha Underground Trios Championships, Dario Cueto comes to the ring and announces that Angelico had an accident and he’s currently in the hospital recovering as we speak. As a result, Dario Cueto announces that both Son of Havoc and Ivelisse will defend their Lucha Underground Trios Championships without Angelico and told them that they’re going to need it.

Apparently, this was a way to write off Angelico in Lucha Underground for the time being as he suffered a major injury when he was in AAA. Lucha Underground and Dario Cueto covered that very well, but having no Angelico in Lucha Underground for a while is a shame. Hope we see him back in Lucha Underground soon.

Also, Dario Cueto, you evil man. I have a feeling he might be the one responsible for the accident that Angelico had, but we’ll see as time goes on. However, we love Dario Cueto for the evil man he is. El Jefe!

The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs Vs. The Cop Crew Vs. The Ultimate Flight Crew Vs. Fenix, Jack Evans, and PJ Black in a Four Way Elimination Trios Match for the Lucha Underground Trios Championships was excellent. Mark out moment! This was an excellent way four way trios elimination title match where every trio managed to shine in this match.

Before I get into how well each trio do in this match, I like how Matt Striker and Vampiro mentioned Bael during this match as they were wondering where Bael was as he was part of The Crew and they make it up by saying that people come and go from The Temple which made a very nice touch. I just have to point that out there since I love the sense of details in that since we know what’s going on backstage, etc. while the commentators doesn’t. I find that very cool.

The Cop Crew did well in this match as Joey Ryan, Cortez Castro, and Mr. Cisco all did their part in this match. The interaction between Ivelisse and Joey Ryan was entertaining, I enjoyed that. After a miscommunication between Joey Ryan and Cortez Castro after Cortez Castro refuses to tag in Joey Ryan, Ivelisse rolls up Cortez Castro to eliminate The Cop Crew in about eight minutes into the match.

Wasn’t surprised that The Cop Crew was the first trio to be eliminated as they were kind of the weakest trio in that match, but despite that, they did well for themselves. I can’t wait to see what’s next for The Cop Crew especially for Cortez Castro and Joey Ryan as they’re in a big storyline right now with Dario Cueto being cops and all.

The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs did great in this match where Ivelisse was the MVP of the team where she took on almost every man in the four way trios match and she looked great doing it. Her German Suplex on Joey Ryan was awesome to see as it showcases the strength that Ivelisse has. Son of Havoc did great in this match as well. Despite Angelico not being a part of this match, The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs did well without Angelico by their corner. However, it wasn’t enough as PJ Black superkicked Ivelisse for Jack Evans to pin her to get The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs eliminated in the trios match at nearly fourteen minutes.

Wow! The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs were the next ones eliminated which was kind of surprising as I thought they would be the final two trios in the match, but they didn’t. With that, we were guaranteed new Lucha Underground Trios Champions as this match got even more exciting to watch to see which trio will be the new Lucha Underground Trios Champions. Will be very interested to see where The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs go from here as they lost Angelico. Maybe they’ll find a new partner to replace him or they might go into singles competition until Angelico recovers. Only time will tell, but I am intrigued about this so let’s see what happens next with The Baddest Tron Heartthrobs.

Fenix, Jack Evans, and PJ Black did great in this match where all three men shined in this match. Jack Evans was extremely funny in this match with him trash talking to everyone in this match. At one point, he even said he was “The Baddest B*tch on the Planet” which shows how good of a heel Jack Evans is which is great to see as Jack Evans is very talented.

The Ultimate Flight Crew did excellent in this match and they were stars of this trios match especially for Dragon Azteca Jr. He was on fire in this match with those insane tilt-a-whirl tornado DDTs, those were awesome. Every member in the Ultimate Flight Crew did excellent in this match which made this trios match an excellent and a fun match to watch.

In the end, The Ultimate Flight Crew get the victory by Rey Mysterio pinning Jack Evans with the split-legged moonsault as The Ultimate Flight Crew are the new Lucha Underground Trios Champions! Mark out moment!

The Ultimate Flight Crew were the next trio that should have won the Lucha Underground Trios Championships and I’m glad they did just that. The Ultimate Flight Crew is going to be a great trio going forward and I’m interested to see where Fenix, Jack Evans, and PJ Black go from here as I doubt they’ll be a trio for long as Jack Evans and PJ Black are feuding with Fenix’s friends, but we’ll see as time goes on.

Excellent four way elimination trios match for the Lucha Underground Trios Championships and congratulations to The Ultimate Flight Crew on being the new Lucha Underground Trios Champions!

The video segment between Vampiro and Pentagon Jr. was great. Pentagon Jr. was seen in a wheelchair meeting with Vampiro as Vampiro wants Pentagon Jr. to get up as he pours wax on him from a black candle and yells at him again. Pentagon Jr. tries to get up, but he collapses as Vampiro calls him weak as he leaves the black candle near him to burn.

Wow, this was a great segment showing how Vampiro really wants Pentagon Jr. to succeed, but he ends up failing him so he punishes Pentagon Jr. for it. I wonder if this means that we’ll get another match between Vampiro and Pentagon Jr. so Pentagon Jr. can prove himself again to impress Vampiro. If that happens, I will be all for it as I love their match at Ultima Lucha so for them to fight each other again would be great. Let’s see where this goes from here. Great video segment to end the show.

Overall, good show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters, and ending a great feud with a great match. So many storylines and feuds here and I love it! If you haven’t already, please check out

Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
