NXT on February 1, 2017 was a good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package showing highlights of NXT San Antonio. This is good as it shows what happened at NXT San Antonio in case people missed it or forgot about it. Well produced video package here.

Ember Moon Vs. Aliyah was a good women’s match. Both of these women went out there and delivered a good match where neither woman looked weak in the process.

Aliyah did well in this match as she got to showcase her skills in the ring. Her neckbreaker on Ember Moon was well executed. Ember Moon also did well in this match as she’s looking to become the next #1 Contender for the NXT Women’s Championship. Her moonsault from the second rope and clothesline on Aliyah were done beautifully. Good performances by both women here.

The ending of the match came when Ember Moon hit a diving corkscrew stunner on Aliyah for the pin and win. Another win for Ember Moon as she’s looking to become the next #1 Contender for the NXT Women’s Championship.

Good women’s match as I’m interested to see what’s next for Ember Moon and Aliyah in NXT.

Just a reminder that Intro 2 by NF was a theme for NXT San Antonio so if you haven’t listened to it yet, please do so because it’s a great song. Also, if you haven’t already, watch NXT San Antonio. Great show.

We then get a recap of Tye Dillinger Vs. Eric Young at NXT San Antonio. This is good in case people missed or forgot about it as it was a good match. Plus, it also ties into the next segment on this show.

The promo from SAnitY at the parking lot after Eric Young’s match with Tye Dillinger was good. Eric Young said that SAnitY told San Antonio that they would take and they did exactly that. Eric Young then said Tye Dillinger made the wrong choice and he proved it by beating him as Killian Dain agreed with him.

SAnitY are looking to make a statement in NXT and they did just that with Tye Dillinger. I wonder if Tye Dillinger and SAnitY will continue to feud after their match at NXT San Antonio. I guess we’ll find out soon enough. Good promo here.

The backstage promo from Tye Dillinger after the Royal Rumble match was good. Tye Dillinger talked about being included in the Royal Rumble match at #10. It was very special for him as he dreamed this when he first started the wrestling business and it was surreal to him that he was in the Royal Rumble match.

Even though Tye Dillinger may lost at NXT San Antonio, he got to be at the Royal Rumble which should have been a great moment for him and I was very happy for him when he appeared at the Royal Rumble. Is this the end for Tye Dillinger in NXT as he goes up to the main roster? Who knows, but either way, I’m happy for him. Good backstage promo here.

We then get a recap of Asuka Vs. Billie Kay Vs. Peyton Royce Vs. Nikki Cross for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT San Antonio. This is good in case people missed or forgot about it as it was an excellent women’s match. Plus, it also ties into the next segment on this show.

The interview with Asuka by Cathy Kelley in the parking lot after her win in the Fatal Four Way NXT Women’s Championship match was good. Cathy Kelley asked Asuka about her victory as Asuka said it was tough, but the title is still hers. Cathy Kelley then asked Asuka about Ember Moon where Asuka responded by asking Cathy Kelley if Ember Moon works here and Cathy Kelley responded with yes as Asuka nodded as she left.

Is this leading to a match between Asuka and Ember Moon at NXT Orlando for the NXT Women’s Championship? If so, that would be great as that is a dream match of mine that I want to happen. Hope it comes true. Good interview here.

The backstage interview with Ember Moon by Kayla Braxton was good. Kayla Braxton was asking Ember Moon about what Asuka said to her as Ember Moon said that she wants to be the one who beats Asuka for the NXT Women’s Championship as she never faced someone like her and once they do, she will know who Ember Moon is.

It seems like we’re getting closer to a future match between Asuka and Ember Moon for the NXT Women’s Championship. I really hope it happens and it should happen at NXT Orlando, but we’ll see. Good backstage interview here.

Tyler Bate Vs. Oney Lorcan was a great match. Oh my god, Tyler Bate has made his debut on NXT! Mark out moment! His performance from the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament was extremely impressive and I didn’t expect him to appear on this show so seeing him here was great.

Oney Lorcan did great in this match as he continued to prove why he is the most underrated wrestler in the NXT roster at the moment. His European uppercuts to Tyler Bate looked devastating. Tyler Bate did great in this match too as he got to show why he is the WWE Unite Kingdom Champion. His airplane spin on Oney Lorcan was fun to watch and his rolling wheel kick on Oney Lorcan was well executed. Great performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Tyler Bate hit the Tyler Driver ’97 (Sitout double underhook powerbomb) on Oney Lorcan for the pin and win. A good win for Tyler Bate as he made a great impression on his debut in NXT. Hope we see more of Tyler Bate in NXT down the line.

Great match and I’m interested to see what’s next for Tyler Bate and Oney Lorcan going forward.

Just a reminder that This Light I Hold by Memphis May Fire was a theme for NXT San Antonio so if you haven’t listened to it yet, please do so because it’s a great song. Also, if you haven’t already, watch NXT San Antonio. Great show.

The interview with Roderick Strong by Cathy Kelly at the parking lot after his match against Andrade “Cien” Almas at NXT San Antonio was good. Cathy Kelley asked Roderick Stroong about his win over Andrade “Cien” Almas as Roderick Strong said that he made a statement and it doesn’t matter who he faces next as he’s going to run over everyone to become the next NXT Champion.

Even though Roderick Strong is not the best on the microphone, he did managed to get his point across here so it was all good. I wonder what Roderick Strong will do next in NXT. I guess we’ll find out soon enough. Good interview here.

We then get a recap of #DIY Vs. Authors of Pain for the NXT Tag Team Championships at NXT San Antonio. This is good in case people missed or forgot about it as it was a great tag team match. Plus, it also ties into the next segment on this show.

The backstage promo from Paul Ellering with Authors of Pain after Authors of Pain’s victory over #DIY was good. Paul Ellering said that the tag team landscape has changed and that Authors of Pain are the new sheriffs and they will show no mercy on their opponents.

Authors of Pain are making a big name for themselves as they look to become the most dominant tag team in NXT. I wonder which tag team will be able to dethrone them? I guess we’ll find out soon enough. Good backstage promo here.

We then get a recap of Shinsuke Nakamura Vs. Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship at NXT San Antonio. This is good in case people missed or forgot about it as it was an excellent match. Plus, it also ties into the next segment on this show.

We then see exclusive footage of Shinsuke Nakamura being taken backstage to get checked on as Matt Bloom and Triple H were concerned about Shinsuke Nakamura’s injury. We then see Kassius Ohno as he went up to Shinsuke Nakamura and told him that he was sorry about what happened to him as the doctors checked on Shinsuke Nakamura.

Oh my god! Kassius Ohno has made an appearance on NXT! Mark out moment! The last time we have seen Kassius Ohno on NXT was back in 2013 when he lost to Luke Harper in his last match of the company before getting released. It’s great to see Kassius Ohno back on NXT even though I think he should lose weight. As for Shinsuke Nakamura’s injury, I hope he gets better soon.

The backstage interview with Bobby Roode by Kayla Braxton after his win over Shinsuke Nakamura was good. Kayla Braxton congratulated Bobby Roode on his title win and asked him if the outcome would have been different if Shinsuke Nakamura didn’t get injured as Bobby Roode said that he can’t believe she asked that question to him as he said no and told her to respect him. Bobby Roode then said that he did exactly what he said was going to do and that was to become NXT Champion. He then said that NXT will become his and that the era of him has just begun as it will be glorious.

Bobby Roode is already showing that he’s the man in NXT as he is the new NXT Champion. I’m interested to see what Bobby Roode will do as NXT Champion as it will be glorious! Good backstage interview here.

We then get an announcement that next week, Bobby Roode will appear on the show to celebrate his NXT Championship win at NXT San Antonio. Looking forward to seeing Bobby Roode next week. Should be good. Glorious!

We then get a vignette about Corey Graves and it was great. Corey Graves talked about how when he first started with WWE, NXT wasn’t a developmental system then as it was known as Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW). He then later became a part of NXT when FCW made the transition to being NXT. He then talked about how he was in the same class as the guys who are currently on Raw and SmackDown Live where he and his class didn’t want NXT to fail.

Corey Graves then talked about his injury where he suffered multiple concussions and always wondered when will he ever get back in the ring. He then questioned why the doctors didn’t let him get back in the ring even though he felt fine after his fourth concussion. Corey Graves then said that the moment he was told he couldn’t wrestle anymore, it was the worst day of his life and it still hurts him to this day. He then talked about how he tried everything he could to stay with NXT as he didn’t want his dream to be in WWE to end. He then went to tried to be a commentator as he practiced every day from that time for two to three hours a day. He then said that when he tried to announce his retirement from the ring, it was very hard for him as he knew that his dream of becoming a WWE superstar was over.

Corey Graves then said that NXT is about opportunities and even though his opportunity of becoming a WWE superstar has gone away, he won’t let his opportunity of becoming a commentator go away. Corey Graves then said that he has fulfilled his opportunity of being a commentator and it’s only right for him to move up from NXT and continue his commitments to Monday Night Raw and 205 Live. He said that he’s going to miss NXT and that he hope that NXT will do well without him as he’s going to be a part of the main roster full-time.

This was a really great vignette about Corey Graves as it kind of made me feel a little bit emotional as I have watched Corey Graves ever since he came to FCW/NXT back in 2011 and 2012 which brought back a lot of great memories for me so I appreciated that a lot. I’m really going to miss Corey Graves in NXT as he has been part of NXT since Day 1 so seeing him leave will be bittersweet. Thank you Corey Graves and I wish you luck on the main roster of WWE in the commentary booth full-time. Stay down!

No Way Jose Vs. Elias Samson was a good match. After what happened last week on NXT, this match made sense as both men went out there and delivered a good match where neither man looked weak in the process.

Elias Samson did well in this match as he got to showcase his character inside the ring. I like how every time he got the upper hand on No Way Jose, he told the crowd to walk with him as the crowd booed him. Great heel heat there even though it may be go away heat, but it works for him so good on him. No Way Jose did well in this match too as he also got to showcase his character in the ring. His hiptoss neckbreaker on Elias Samson was well executed. Good performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when No Way Jose hit Elias Samson with the pop up knockout punch for the pin and win. A good win for No Way Jose as he got to shut up Elias Samson. No Way Jose!

Good match and I’m interested to see what’s next for No Way Jose and Elias Samson in NXT.

Overall, good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we are going to have Bobby Roode appear which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
