NXT 2/15/17 Review: Moustache Mountain Collides!

Published

on

NXT on February 15, 2017 was a good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package hyping up Tyler Bate Vs. Trent Seven for the WWE United Kingdom Championship later on the show. This is good as it’s hyping up the main event later on the show which should be a great match. Well produced video package here.

Garrison Spears & Lance Anoa’i Vs. Authors of Pain was a good tag team squash match. It was cool to see a member of the Samoan Dynasty in this match so good for Lance Anoa’i here.

Unfortunately, Garrison Spears and Lance Anoa’i stand no chance against Authors of Pain as Authors of Pain hit the Last Chapter on Lance Anoa’i for the pin and win. Authors of Pain continued their dominance in NXT as I questioned who can stop Authors of Pain at this point.

After the match, Authors of Pain hit Garrison Spears and Lance Anoa’i with double powerbombs as they stood tall with their NXT Tag Team Championships held high. I really questioned who can stop Authors of Pain at this point, but only time will tell.

Good tag team squash match and good post-match as I’m looking forward to seeing who will face Authors of Pain next for the NXT Tag Team Championships.

We then get a vignette about Tyler Bate and it was good. Tyler Bate talks about how he’s only 19 years old, but the only numbers he cares about are the one, two, three. The same vignette from his WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament and from last week, but it was still pretty good as it shows who Tyler Bate is as a character and so forth. Looking forward to his match against Trent Seven later in the show.

The match that was booked last week by William Regal between Liv Morgan and a partner of her choosing Vs. Billie Kay and Peyton Royce took place this week. It turns out that Liv Morgan’s partner turned out to be Ember Moon. Not surprising as these two have a partnership for the past few months so it made sense for them to team up. Anyway, let’s talk about the match itself.

We then get an announcement from Tom Phillips, Percy Watson, and Nigel McGuinness that Shinsuke Nakamura is back in training and will be back in the ring soon. Good news as Shinsuke Nakamura is a top guy in NXT and I would love to see him against Bobby Roode again down the line. Great to see Shinsuke Nakamura recovering from his injury and I can’t wait to see him back in the ring soon.

Liv Morgan & Ember Moon Vs. Billie Kay & Peyton Royce was a good women’s tag team match. After what happened between Liv Morgan, Billie Kay, and Peyton Royce last week, it led to this match where both teams did well here.

Liv Morgan & Ember Moon did well in this match as they tried to take down the duo. Ember Moon’s offense on Billie Kay was very impressive especially with that hurricanrana she executed. Liv Morgan executed a nice running bulldog and STO on Peyton Royce when she got in the hot tag from Ember Moon. Billie Kay and Peyton Royce did well in this match too as they continued to be a force within the NXT Women’s division. Billie Kay’s big boot to Ember Moon looked devastating as it almost knocked out Ember Moon in the process. Good performances by all four women here.

The ending of the match came when Billie Kay locked in Liv Morgan into a wheelbarrow double underhook chickenwing as Peyton Royce hit a running knee to Liv Morgan’s face as Billie Kay pin Liv Morgan for the win. Another win for the team of Billie Kay and Peyton Royce. It will be interesting to see if Billie Kay and Peyton Royce are looking to get back into the NXT Women’s Championship picture, but I guess we’ll see in the future.

Good women’s tag team match and I’m interested to see what’s next for Liv Morgan, Ember Moon, Billie Kay, and Peyton Royce in NXT.

We then get a recap of what happened last week when SAnitY attacked Tye Dillinger with No Way Jose and Roderick Strong saving him from the attack from SAnitY. This is good as it showed what happened last week between Tye Dillinger, No Way Jose, Roderick Strong, and SAnitY for those who have missed or forgot about it. Plus, it also ties in to the next segment which I will talk about next.

The interview with No Way Jose and Roderick Strong by Andrea D’Marco in the Performance Center was good. Roderick Strong said that he used to be in SAnitY’s place of being a guy that just beats people up for fun, but now, he doesn’t like when SAnitY teamed up against Tye Dillinger so he decided to help him. No Way Jose then agreed with Roderick Strong and said that Tye Dillinger is the hottest wrestler in sports entertainment today so he and Roderick Strong decided to step up.

It’s cool to see why No Way Jose and Roderick Strong were helping out Tye Dillinger last week and it made sense for them to do so. Would like it if they did that last week, but it’s better than nothing. Also, it seems like the feud between Tye Dillinger, No Way Jose, Roderick Strong, and SAnitY will continue which should be interesting to see. Good interview here.

The promo segment between #DIY, Authors of Pain, and The Revival was good. #DIY made their way to the ring as they were cutting a promo in the ring. Tommaso Ciampa said that at NXT Toronto, their dreams came true and that they were very happy to be voted Match of the Year by the fans. He then talked about how he and Johnny Gargano traveled together and met Authors of Pain at NXT San Antonio. Johnny Gargano then said that Authors of Pain may be tough, but they had doubt in their eyes at NXT San Antonio as they want their rematch for the NXT Tag Team Championships.

Authors of Pain and Paul Ellering then appeared on the ramp as Paul Ellering said that if #DIY wants their rematch, they’ll get it in two weeks so they better make peace for their loved ones. #DIY then said that they love each other and that they want to fight Authors of Pain right now.

The Revival then attacked #DIY from behind as they hit Johnny Gargano with the Shatter Machine to take him out. Authors of Pain then came down to the ring as The Revival retreated.

It seems like we’ll be getting a three way tag team match between Authors of Pain, #DIY, and The Revival for the NXT Tag Team Championships at NXT Orlando which I’m fine with as I think it will be a great tag team match between all three teams. Until then, we’ll get Authors of Pain Vs. #DIY for the NXT Tag Team Championships in two weeks which should be a great tag team match. Looking forward to it.

Good promo segment and I can’t wait to see Authors of Pain Vs. #DIY for the NXT Tag Team Championships in two weeks.

We then get a vignette about Trent Seven and it was good. He talked about how it was a privilege to work for WWE and that his match with Tyler Bate may be his biggest match to date. It was the same vignette of Trent Seven from the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament with some added content in it. However, it was still good as it shows who Trent Seven is as a character and so forth. Looking forward to his match against Tyler Bate. Should be great.

We then get a vignette on Kassius Ohno and that he would make his return to NXT very soon. Yes! Kassius Ohno is returning to the NXT ring soon and I can’t wait as it’s been over three years since we last saw Kassius Ohno in the NXT ring so I’m looking forward to his return. When you see Kassius coming, you say Ohno!

We then get an announcement from William Regal in his office saying that there will be a #1 Contender Triple Threat match for the NXT Women’s Championship next week between Ember Moon, Liv Morgan, and Peyton Royce as they will face Asuka for the championship in two weeks. A nice announcement from William Regal there and it should be interesting to see who will win the #1 Contender’s Triple Threat match for the NXT Women’s Championship next week. Looking forward to it.

Tyler Bate Vs. Trent Seven for the WWE United Kingdom Championship was an excellent match. Mark out moment! Also, Trent Seven has made his debut for NXT! Mark out moment! It’s cool to see the WWE UK wrestlers here as it will give them more exposure and I also like how they set up the ring with the WWE United Kingdom Championship graphics so that was a nice touch. Not only that, we also got the formal in-ring introductions and both men shook hands before the match so that was nice and sweet. Anyway, let’s get back to the match itself.

Trent Seven did excellent in this match as he tried everything he could to take down his tag team partner from Moustache Mountain. The way Trent Seven showed charisma in this match with him playing his mustache was fun to watch. Also, his spinning back fists and snap dragon suplex on Tyler Bate looked devastating.

Tyler Bate also did excellent in this match as he tried to prove the world why he is the WWE United Kingdom Champion. Just like with Trent Seven, the way Tyler Bate showed in this match with him playing his mustache was fun to watch. In addition, his airplane spin was fun to watch and his over the top rope dive on Trent Seven was beautifully executed.

There were certain points in the match where I thought the match was over as both of these men knew each other so well and both men did excellent where neither man looked weak in the process. When Trent Seven hit the Seven Stars (Wrist lock transitioned to a short-arm lariat) on Tyler Bate and Tyler bate kicked out, I was shocked as I thought Trent Seven was going to win that match at that point, but Tyler Bate shocked me so that was cool. Another part of the match where I thought it was over was when Tyler Bate hit Trent Seven with an exploder suplex on Trent Seven from the top rope and Trent Seven managed to kick out. That was impressive by Trent Seven there as I thought the match was over at that point and the way Tyler Bate hit an exploder suplex on Trent Seven from the top rope was impressive. Excellent performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Tyler Bate hit Trent Seven with Tyler Driver ’97 (Sitout double underhook powerbomb) for the pin and win. Wow, what an incredible match between these two men as they brought it out tonight. They even shook hands and hugged each other at the end so that was nice. Hope to see more of these two in NXT down the road.

Excellent match and I hope to see Tyler Bate and Trent Seven in NXT again in the future.

Overall, good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we are going to have Ember Moon Vs. Liv Morgan Vs. Peyton Royce in a #1 Contender’s match for the NXT Women’s Championship which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
