NXT 4/5/17 Review: El Vagabundo Drifts Away

on

NXT on April 5, 2017 was a good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package highlighting the matches and moments from NXT Orlando. This is good as it showed what happened at NXT Orlando for those who have missed it or forgot about it so if you haven’t already, please watch it as it will be worth your time. Well produced video package here.

Aliyah Vs. Peyton Royce was a good women’s match. Billie Kay was at ringside for Peyton Royce’s match and both women did well in this match as they tried to climb up the ladder of the NXT Women’s Championship picture.

Aliyah did well in this match as she showcased her skills in the ring. Her running blockbuster and hip tosses on Peyton Royce were well executed. Peyton Royce did well in this match as she also showcase her skills in the ring. Her spinning heel kick on Aliyah was well executed. Good performances by both women here.

The ending of the match came when Peyton Royce hit a bridging fisherman suplex on Aliyah for the pin and win. A good win for Peyton Royce as she looks to climb back up the ladder of the NXT Women’s Championship picture.

Good women’s match and I’m interested to see what’s next for Aliyah and Peyton Royce in NXT.

Just a reminder that NXT is coming back to the UK this June for the Download Festival so get your tickets now before it’s too late so you can see NXT live!

We then get highlights of the eight mixed tag team match at NXT Orlando and this was good as it showed what happened at NXT Orlando so that was good to see.

We then get highlights of the NXT Women’s Championship match at NXT Orlando and this was good as it showed what happened at NXT Orlando so that was good to see. Plus, it also ties in to the next segment.

The interview with Asuka by Kayla Braxton at the parking lot after her match against Ember Moon at NXT Orlando was good. Kayla Braxton asked Asuka who is next for Asuka as Asuka replied by saying that she’s still champion and that no one is left.

I wouldn’t say that for sure Asuka as you didn’t beat Ember Moon on your own as you have to use a referee to make you the victory, but I digress since I don’t want my head get kicked in by Asuka. At this point, if Ember Moon can’t beat Asuka, who can? Nikki Cross? I guess time will tell, but I’m expecting Ember Moon to get her rematch at NXT Chicago. Good interview here.

Just a reminder that Are You Coming With Me? by Crown The Empire was a theme for NXT Orlando so if you haven’t listened to it yet, please do so because it’s a great song. Also, if you haven’t already, watch NXT Orlando. Great show.

We then get highlights of Aleister Black Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas at NXT Orlando and this was good as it showed what happened at NXT Orlando so that was good to see. Plus, it also ties in to the next segment.

We then get to see an Instagram post from Andrade “Cien” Almas who was partying with some ladies after NXT Orlando as Tom Phillips thought that Andrade “Cien” Almas is spending more time focusing on partying rather than getting big wins.

Tom Phillips does have a point with Andrade “Cien” Almas not getting a lot of big wins as of late and this is probably one of the reasons why. Regardless, I hope Andrade “Cien” Almas does well in NXT and eventually gets that push he deserves. Tranquilo!

Heavy Machinery Vs. Bollywood Boyz was a good tag team match. Bollywood Boyz have returned to NXT after being gone for a while! Mark out moment! Cool to see Bollywood Boyz back in NXT with a new gimmick as now they’re more of the dancing and less playing to the crowd as they’re heels which is an interesting gimmick to say the least.

The Bollywood Boyz did get some offense in this match as well as showcasing their charisma in the ring, but Heavy Machinery was too much for them as they showcased their strength and agility in the ring as they finished the match with Otis Dozovic holding Gurv Sihra in a high-angle falling powerslam position as Tucker Knight does a leapfrog over Otis Dozovic as Otis Dozovic hit the high-angle falling powerslam on Gurv Sihra for the pin and win. Very unique tag team finisher right there and I’m very impressed with Heavy Machinery. Hope to see them more in the future.

Good tag team match and I’m interested to see what’s next for Heavy Machinery and Bollywood Boyz in NXT.

The backstage interview with Oney Lorcan by Kayla Braxton was good. Kayla Braxton asked Oney Lorcan about him facing a mystery opponent later on the show where Oney Lorcan said that it doesn’t matter and that he’s here to compete, do his job, and win.

It seems like Oney Lorcan is very confident about winning despite not winning a lot as of late. Hope Oney Lorcan gets a push on NXT soon and hopefully, this will be the start for it. Good backstage interview here.

Just a reminder that Come And Get It by I Prevail was a theme for NXT Orlando so if you haven’t listened to it yet, please do so because it’s a great song. Also, if you haven’t already, watch NXT Orlando. Great show.

We then get highlights of the triple threat elimination NXT Tag Team Championship match at NXT Orlando and this was good as it showed what happened at NXT Orlando so that was good to see. Plus, it also ties in to the next segment.

The interview with Paul Ellering and Authors of Pain by Kayla Braxton at the parking lot after their match against #DIY and The Revival was good. Paul Ellering said that their victory was a confirmation of the evolution of Authors of Pain. Authors of Pain have proven themselves by not beating one, but two teams. They can’t be stopped and Authors of Pain will be a dynasty.

I really questioned who can beat Authors of Pain for the NXT Tag Team Championships at this point. I could see Heavy Machinery being the next challengers, but they need to be build up first before that happens. It will be interesting to see which team will face Authors of Pain next for the titles. Good interview here.

We then get highlights of the NXT Championship match at NXT Orlando and this was good as it showed what happened at NXT Orlando so that was good to see. Plus, it also ties in to the next segment.

The backstage interview with Bobby Roode by Kayla Braxton after his match against Shinsuke Nakamura at NXT Orlando was good. Bobby Roode said that he told the world that he was going to beat Shinsuke Nakamura and he did. He did it at NXT Orlando where 15,000 people saw Bobby Roode take NXT to a new level. He then said that it’s going to continue for days, weeks, and months to come.

Bobby Roode is definitely having a big ego here, but I can’t blame him as he proved once again why he is the NXT Champion. It will be interesting to see who will face Bobby Roode next for the NXT Championship. Looking forward to it. Good backstage interview here.

Just a reminder that Shock Me by Baroness was a theme for NXT Orlando so if you haven’t listened to it yet, please do so because it’s a great song. Also, if you haven’t already, watch NXT Orlando. Great show.

We then see footage of Drew McIntyre sitting at ringside at NXT Orlando and this was good as it showed what happened at NXT Orlando so that was good. Plus, it also ties in to the next segment.

The backstage interview with Drew McIntyre after NXT Orlando was good. Drew McIntyre talked about how he has signed with NXT where ESPN broke the news about earlier in that night. We then get an announcement that next week, we will see Drew McIntyre in NXT.

Awesome to see Drew McIntyre back in NXT as he haven’t seen him in NXT since its rebranding in 2012. Surprised that he isn’t on the main roster, but I’m not going to complain about him being in NXT. Looking forward to his return to NXT next week. Good backstage interview here.

Oney Lorcan Vs. El Vagabundo was a good match. El Vagabundo made his way to the ring as he introduced himself to the NXT Universe as he was playing his guitar and had a question for the crowd. He asked them if they want to rock with him as the crowd chanted yes in Spanish. He then played a song where the ending went like this, “What it needs is what I am”.

Oney Lorcan then interrupted him and told him that he knows that he’s Elias Samson, El Vagabundo knows that he’s Elias Samson, and Orlando knows that he’s Elias Samson. Oney Lorcan then told El Vagabundo to drift away, but El Vagabundo ended beating up Oney Lorcan and the match was under away. El Vagabundo does look and sound like Elias Samson a lot, but it’s probably not him since he left NXT last week due to the Loser Leaves NXT match. Anyway, interesting way to start the match.

El Vagabundo did well in this match as he was trying to make a first impression in NXT. His in-ring style is very similar to Elias Samson, but once again, it can’t be him since he lost the Loser Leaves NXT match last week. Oney Lorcan did well in this match too as he’s tried to get a win in NXT. His strikes against El Vagabundo looked devastating. Good performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Oney Lorcan pulled the mask off El Vagabundo and it was revealed to be Elias Samson. Oney Lorcan then hit Elias Samson with a running blockbuster for the pin and win. No wonder El Vagabundo looked like Elias Samson because he is Elias Samson. Great to see him back in NXT even though he’s probably going to be taken out of the building because he’s not employed by NXT at the moment so that’s unfortunate. Also, good win for Oney Lorcan as he needed wins so good for him.

After the match, Elias Samson complained with the referee who instructed him to leave. A security team member then approached Elias Samson and asked him to leave. Elias Samson said that he belongs in NXT and the security guard took Elias Samson away.

I think this is pretty much Elias Samson’s officially last match and appearance in NXT and if that’s the case, thank you for everything you have done in NXT Elias Samson and I wish you luck on the main roster. What it needs is who he is!

Good match as I’m interested to see what’s next for Oney Lorcan in NXT and if this is his last match and appearance in NXT, thank you Elias Samson!

Overall, good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we are going to have an appearance from Drew McIntyre which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
