NXT 4/12/17 Review: Thank You King of Strong Style, YeaOh!

NXT on April 12, 2017 was a good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

Before I talked about the show itself, NXT has a new intro theme as well as new graphics for the show and both of them are pretty good if I say so myself. Love the increase of production so that’s great to see. Anyway, back to the show itself.

We start off the show with Aleister Black Vs. Corey Hollis and it was a great squash match. Corey Hollis has made another appearance on NXT! Mark out moment! Great to see Corey Hollis back on NXT even though it’s only for one night. A shame that his tag team partner, John Skyler isn’t with him, but with him at ROH at the moment, it makes sense. NXT, please him if possible! Thank you.

Unfortunately, Corey Hollis didn’t get any offense on Aleister Black as Aleister Black finished Corey Hollis off pretty quickly as he hit a spin kick on Corey Hollis for the pin and win. An impressive win for Aleister Black as he continues to make a statement for himself in NXT. Fade to black!

Great squash match as I’m interested to see what’s next for Aleister Black in NXT and NXT, please sign Corey Hollis!

We then get a recap of what happened last week on SmackDown Live! where Tye Dillinger made his debut as he defeated Curt Hawkins. This is good as it showed what happened on SmackDown Live for those who have missed it or forgot about it. Plus, it also ties in to the next segment.

The backstage interview with Tye Dillinger by Kayla Braxton was good. Kayla Braxton congratulated Tye Dillinger for making his debut on SmackDown Live where Tye Dillinger is happy about it, but he said that he has unfinished business in NXT as he isn’t finished with SAnitY. He then said that he told William Regal that he’ll be wrestling Eric Young next week and this time, the numbers advantage won’t matter because it will happen inside a steel cage.

So we’re going to get Tye Dillinger Vs. Eric Young in a steel cage next week for Tye Dillinger’s last match in NXT. Nice. Should be an awesome match next week and I’m looking forward to it. Good backstage interview here.

#DIY Vs. Dylan Miley & Michael Blais was a good tag team match. With the loss that #DIY suffered at NXT Orlando, they looked to rebound in this match and they did.

Dylan Miley was impressive in this match as he got to showcase his strength in this match as he hit a nice delayed vertical suplex on Johnny Gargano. However, #DIY got the victory as they pin Michael Blais with the superkick/running knee strike to the back of the head combination. A good win for #DIY as they looked to get back on track in the NXT Tag Team Division. Do It Yourself!

After the match, Dylan Miley attacked Michael Blais by slamming him down multiple times and finishing him off with a reverse scoop powerslam. Nice work from Dylan Miley there as he’s looking to make a statement in NXT. It will be interesting to see what Dylan Miley does next in NXT.

Good tag team match and good post-match as I’m interested to see what’s next for #DIY and Dylan Miley in NXT.

We then get highlights of Asuka Vs. Ember Moon at NXT Orlando and this was good as it showed what happened at NXT Orlando so that was good to see. Plus, it also ties in to the next segment.

We then see Ember Moon after NXT Orlando in an empty arena where she was retracing her steps from backstage to the ramp as she was remembering the loss to Asuka. Ember Moon then said that it was supposed to be her moment, but it wasn’t and it was her destiny.

It seems like Ember Moon wants a rematch with Asuka for the NXT Women’s Championship down the line and I don’t blame her as Asuka didn’t really beat Ember Moon on her own as she used the referee to help her win the match. Looking forward to the rematch when it happens and maybe it will happen at NXT Chicago, but we’ll see.

Ruby Riot Vs. Kimberly Frankele was a good women’s match. Oh my god, Kimberly Frankele has made her return to NXT! Mark out moment! Unfortunately, I don’t think this is official debut yet as she hasn’t had a name change or her name displayed on the titantron yet so I guess we have to wait a little while longer.

When Ruby Riot was making her entrance, Ruby Riot cut a promo earlier backstage as she said that she has started a feud with SAnitY and that’s fine with her. However, she’s in NXT because she wants the NXT Women’s Championship and she’s going to do it with a riot. A good promo from Ruby Riot there showcasing who she is as a character and showing her mic skills. During the match, Nikki Cross came to ringside as she watched the match between the two women. It seems like Nikki Cross have unfinished business with Ruby Riot so it’s great to see that feud continuing.

However, she got to showcase her skills in the match as she delivered a nice tilt-a-whirl backbreaker on Ruby Riot as she got to show her character in this match too with her showing some references from her Princess gimmick so that’s nice to see. Ruby Riot did well in this match as she also got to showcase her skills in the ring. Her hurricanrana on Kimber Lee was well executed. Good performances by both women here.

The ending of the match came when Ruby Riot hit a spinning backflip kick on Kimberly Frankele for the pin and win. A good win for Ruby Riot as she’s looking to make a statement in the NXT Women’s division as it seems like we’re going to get a feud with Ruby Riot and Nikki Cross after Nikki Cross stared at Ruby Riot after the match. Looking forward to that match when it happens. We riot!

Good women’s match and I’m interested to see what’s next in this Ruby Riot and Nikki Cross feud in NXT.

The segment between Iconic Duo, Liv Morgan, and Aliyah at the Performance Center was good. Billie Kay was walking through the training room at the Performance Center as she said everything was awful while Peyton Royce followed her with a camera. Billie Kay then cathed Liv Morgan and Aliyah talking to a trainer as she entered the room and called them NXT’s resident losers. Liv Morgan then pushed Billie Kay into an ice bath as Billie Kay was struggling to get out of the ice bath. The trainer eventually helped her out and Billie Kay became upset afterwards.

It seems like the feud between Liv Morgan, Aliyah, and The Iconic Duo which I don’t mind as having a feud is better than no feud, but we have seen this feud already so I don’t know what they’re going to do differently this time around. However, I’m willing to give it a chance so we’ll see. Good segment here.

Drew McIntyre Vs. Oney Lorcan was a great match. Drew McIntyre has made his in-ring return to NXT! Mark out moment! It’s just a shame that he didn’t came out with the Broken Dreams as that was an excellent theme for him back then. Hopefully we’ll get to hear it again, but his current theme is not bad, I just prefer Broken Dreams.

Oney Lorcan did great in this match as he tried to continue the momentum that he had from last week. His somersault dive to the outside on Drew McIntyre looked amazing. His running blockbuster on Drew McIntyre was well executed and his chops and slaps to Drew McIntyre looked painful as heck. Drew McIntyre looked great in this match as he’s looking to redeem himself. His overhead belly-to-belly suplex, tilt-a-whirl backbreaker on the ring apron, and his reverse double leg slam on Oney Lorcan looked devastating. Great performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Drew McIntyre hit a running single dropkick on Oney Lorcan for the pin and win. Poor Oney Lorcan as he was bleeding after he took that reverse double leg slam so I hope he’s okay. However, a great win for Drew McIntyre as he’s looking to redeem himself.

After the match, Drew McIntyre went up the ramp as Dasha Fuentes came in to interview Drew McIntyre about his return to NXT. Drew McIntyre said that this is exactly where he needs to be and he built up a reputation where he could have signed anywhere, but NXT is where he wants to be the most.

Interesting words from Drew McIntyre there, but I’m very happy to see him back in NXT and I can’t wait to see his first feud in NXT.

Great match as I’m interested to see what’s next for Drew McIntyre and Oney Lorcan in NXT.

Just a reminder that NXT is returning to the UK this June for the Download Festival so get your tickets now before it’s too late and see NXT live!

The promo segment with Shinsuke Nakamura was great. Shinsuke Nakamura came to the ring as he talked about how he came to NXT one year ago with experience as a champion in Japan. He said he wanted to compete against the best in the world and he learned a lot since coming to NXT, from the wrestlers, the coaches, and the fans.

Shinsuke Nakamura then said that NXT is its own brand. It has its own energy and life and the NXT Universe is crazy. He said he loves the innovation and passion in NXT as it’s their style. He then said that he will always be NXT.

Shinsuke Nakamura then played with the crowd as the fans chanted his theme as the NXT roster walked out to the stage and they saluted to Shinsuke Nakamura by clapping and singing the melody of his song. Shinsuke Nakamura was then moved by the tribute and he said thank you by bowing to all sides of the audience. He then walked up the ramp and was surprisingly joined by his friend, Finn Balor! Mark out moment! Cool to see Finn Balor here as I didn’t expect him to appear. However, it does makes sense as Finn Balor is best friends with Shinsuke Nakamura so seeing them together was great to see.

This is officially Shinsuke Nakamura’s last appearance in NXT and I will surely miss him dearly. However, I think he’s going to do a great job in SmackDown Live! because he is “The King of Strong Style”. Thank you Shinsuke Nakamura for everything you have done for NXT and I wish you luck on SmackDown Live! YeaOh!

Great promo segment and thank you Shinsuke Nakamura!

Overall, good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we are going to have Tye Dillinger Vs. Eric Young in a steel cage which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
