NXT 4/19/17 Review: Time to Go To Sleep, Ten!

NXT on April 19, 2017 was a good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a promo segment between Bobby Roode and Hideo Itami and it was good. Bobby Roode made his way to the ring as he said he defeated Shinsuke Nakamura at NXT Orlando to retain the NXT Championship. Bobby Roode talked about how he sold out the Amway Center and allowed 15,000 people to sit and watch him. By defeating Shinsuke Nakamura, he ensured that the fate of NXT is in his control now as Bobby Roode begins his era.

He talked about Shinsuke Nakamura’s farewell speech last week and how all of the fans sang his theme and he thought it was pathetic. He wasn’t there on stage last week to celebrate Shinsuke Nakamura because he didn’t want to listen to the crap that came out of Shinsuke Nakamura’s mouth, the lie that he left NXT. He talked about how Shinsuke Nakamura was embarrassed to lose to Bobby Roode twice that he had to leave NXT.

He then told the audience that no one in the crowd deserves to be in his NXT and from this moment on, the audience can choose to be with him or hit the bricks like Shinsuke Nakamura.

Hideo Itami then made his return to NXT and confronted Bobby Roode in the ring! Mark out moment! Great to see Hideo Itami back in NXT after his injury. Hopefully he won’t injured himself again, but we’ll see. Hideo Itami and Bobby Roode stared at each other until Hideo Itami gave Bobby Roode a slap to the face. Bobby Roode looked surprised, but then he laughed, jawed at him a bit, and took off his jacket. He rolled up his sleeves as Hideo Itami stood and watched Bobby Roode yelling at him. Hideo Itami then picked up Bobby Roode and hit a Go To Sleep (Fireman’s carry dropped onto a knee) on Bobby Roode that knocked him out.

Great to see Hideo Itami back in NXT and it looks like he wants a match against Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship. If that’s the case, it should be a great match between the two if it happens. Looking forward to it.

Good promo segment as I’m looking forward to Bobby Roode Vs. Hideo Itami for the NXT Championship down the line.

The backstage segment between Tyler Bate and Gentleman Jack Gallagher by Kayla Braxton was good. Gentleman Jack Gallagher commended Tyler Bate for his success at the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament and thanked Tyler Bate for the opportunity to win the WWE United Kingdom Championship. Tyler Bate said that he’s looking forward to successfully defending the WWE United Kingdom Championship next week as both men shook hands.

Oh my god, we’re going to get Tyler Bate Vs. Gentleman Jack Gallagher for the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament next week! I would mark out at this point, but I’ll save it for next week. Can’t wait to see the both of them next week for the WWE United Kingdom Championship. Should be an awesome match.

We then get back to the ring to check on the condition of Bobby Roode as Bobby Roode slowly got up after the Go To Sleep from Hideo Itami as he slowly made his way out of the ring. I guess Hideo Itami really made Bobby Roode sleep there for a bit. Looking forward to the program between the two down the line and it will be glorious!

We then got footage from earlier in the show at the WWE Performance Center where Heavy Machinery were working out until they saw Andrade “Cien” Almas was strolling into the weight room to antagonize Drew McIntyre who was working out and that he will see him next week.

It seems like we’ll get a match between Drew McIntyre Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas next week which should be a great match as I’ll be looking forward to it. Tranquilo!

Danny Burch Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas was a good match. Danny Burch has made an appearance on NXT! Mark out moment! Great to see Danny Burch to make another appearance on NXT as he competed in NXT before in the past and recently competed in the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament.

Even though Danny Burch did get some pretty good offense on Andrade “Cien” Almas in this match, Andrade “Cien” Almas got the better of him as he hit Danny Burch with the Hammerlock DDT for the pin and win. A good win for Andrade “Cien” Almas after his loss against Aleister Black at NXT Orlando as he’s getting ready for his match against Drew McIntyre next week. Tranquilo!

Good match and I’m looking forward to Drew McIntyre Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas next week on NXT.

We then get a video package of Asuka as the NXT women’s locker room talked about her undefeated streak in NXT, her in-ring skills, and her dominance in the NXT Women’s division. At the end, the NXT women’s locker room noticed that Asuka has been a bit cocky as of late and that could be her downfall.

It’s interesting that the NXT women’s locker room noticed the change of Asuka as of late as I have noticed it as well. It will be interesting to see if Asuka will really trun heel soon, but we’ll see. Well produced video package here.

We then get a video package of the rivalry between Tye Dillinger and Eric Young. This is good as it’s building up their steel cage match later on the show which should be an awesome match. Looking forward to it. Well produced video package here.

Liv Morgan & Aliyah Vs. The Iconic Duo was a good women’s tag team match. After the interaction between the two teams last week, it led to this match and both teams did well for themselves as they look to climb up the ladder of the NXT Women’s division.

The Iconic Duo did well in this match as they got to show their tag team chemistry in the ring. Billie Kay‘s discus punch on Aliyah looked devastating and Peyton Royce‘s spinning heel kick on Aliyah was well executed. Liv Morgan and Aliyah did well in this match as they tried to get revenge on The Iconic Duo. The way Liv Morgan rolled Billie Kay around the ring was cool to see and Aliyah hit a nice looking devastating diving leg drop on Billie Kay. Good performances by both teams here.

The ending of the match came when Aliyah rolled up Peyton Royce with a sunset flip as Liv Morgan hit a dropkick on Billie Kay as she goes down to the floor for the pin and win. A nice surprising victory for Liv Morgan and Aliyah here as I thought The Iconic Duo were going to win this match. The Iconic Duo threw a tantrum in the ring which is not surprising. I don’t know if this feud will continue, but we’ll see what happens next with these four women going forward.

Good women’s tag team match as I’m interested to see what’s next for Liv Morgan, Aliyah, and The Iconic Duo in NXT.

We then get an announcement that next week, Aleister Black will have a match, Drew McIntyre Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas, and Tyler Bate Vs. Gentleman Jack Gallagher for the WWE United Kingdom Championship. Looks to be interesting matches next week and I’m looking forward to it.

Tye Dillinger Vs. Eric Young in a steel cage match was excellent. Mark out moment! As SAnitY was making their entrance, Eric Young told the rest of SAnitY to go as he wants to do this alone as the others left. Nice to see that Eric Young is willing to go one on one with Tye Dillinger here. Much respect to that.

Eric Young did excellent in this match as he tried everything in his power to finally put Tye Dillinger away. Eric Young bled in this match where I don’t know if it was intentional or not, but it really added to the match so I appreciated that a lot. Plus, he even brought the rest of SAnitY to ringside to try to make Tye Dillinger lose so he did his job as a heel there.

Tye Dillinger did excellent in this match as well as he tried to finally get his revenge on Eric Young for the past few months. His Tye Breaker (Fireman’s carry dropped onto a knee) on Eric Young was well executed. When SAnitY tried to interfere in the match, Kassius Ohno, Roderick Strong, and Ruby Riot got Tye Dillinger’s back so he was a perfect ten for bringing back up.

There were certain spots in the match where I didn’t expect them to do like the spot where Eric Young hit a diving elbow drop onto Tye Dillinger from the top of the cage and Tye Dillinger hitting a diving crossbody on Eric Young and Killian Dain on top of the cage! Mark out moment for both moments! Didn’t see that coming at all which made this match amazing in my opinion so props to both men here.

Also, this is officially Tye Dillinger’s last appearance and match in NXT. I’m very happy for Tye Dillinger as he worked so hard to finally get another chance at the WWE and this time, he had succeeded because of his hard work so for that, congratulations to Tye Dillinger for being on SmackDown Live! Thank you Tye Dillinger for everything you have done in FCW and NXT from the time I have been watching you for almost a decade, thank you and good luck on SmackDown Live! Ten!

Excellent steel cage match and thank you Tye Dillinger!

Overall, good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we are going to have Drew McIntyre Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas, Aleister Black will have a match, and Tyler Bate Vs. Gentleman Jack Gallagher for the WWE United Kingdom Championship which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
