NXT 4/26/17 Review: Moustache Men Fight With Fisticuffs

NXT on April 26, 2017 was a good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a segment between Ruby Riot and Nikki Cross and it was good. Nikki Cross crawled into the ring as she grinned and rolled out of the ring as she talked into Dasha Fuentes‘ mic by saying Ruby Riot’s name and that she wants to play with her.

Ruby Riot then walked down the ramp as they stared each other while entering the ring simultaneously. Nikki Cross then laughed and rushed at Ruby Riot where Ruby Riot fought back as they fought to the outside. The fight continued as Nikki Cross slammed Ruby Riot head-first into the steel steps. Referees and security rushed down to break up the fight. Nikki Cross then leaped off the ring and took out Ruby Riot.

A nice way to start off the show as it shows the hatred between the two as they want to destroy each other apart. Looking forward to match between the two when it happens which probably happen at NXT Chicago, but we’ll see.

Good segment and I’m interested to see what happens next in this feud between Ruby Riot and Nikki Cross in NXT.

We then get a recap of what happened last week when Hideo Itami made his return to NXT and challenged Bobby Roode to a match for the NXT Championship as he left him laying in the ring. This is good as it showed what happened last week and it ties into the next segment which I will get to next.

The backstage interview with Bobby Roode by Kayla Braxton was good. Bobby Roode talked about how the attack from Hideo Itami was cowardly and if Hideo Itami thinks that he’s going to get a title shot against him, he has to earn that shot.

Bobby Roode does have a point that Hideo Itami hasn’t earned a shot for the NXT Championship yet so I guess in order for Hideo Itami to get a shot, he needs to win first. Looking forward for Bobby Roode Vs. Hideo Itami for the NXT Championship when it happens. Good backstage interview here.

Drew McIntyre Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas was a good match. After the confrontation between the two last week, it led to this match and it was good, but I wish it had more time as it was starting to get really good until it ended.

Andrade “Cien” Almas did well in this match as he got to show his character and charisma in the ring. His slap to Drew McIntyre in the corner looked painful as heck. Drew McIntyre did well in this match too as he continued to make a statement since his return to NXT. His big boot to Andrade “Cien” Almas when Andrade “Cien” Almas hung on to the ropes looked devastating. Good performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Drew McIntyre hit a running single leg dropkick on Andrade “Cien” Almas for the pin and win. A good win for Drew McIntyre as he looked to climb up the ranks in NXT.

Good match and I’m interested to see what’s next for Drew McIntyre and Andrade “Cien” Almas in NXT.

We then get an announcement from William Regal backstage that Ruby Riot will face Nikki Cross later on the show after what happened earlier in the show. Makes sense after what happened in the opening of the show. However, I feel like this match should happen at NXT Chicago. Maybe we will get an unclean finish for this match, but we’ll see. Looking forward to the match later on the show.

We then get a vignette on Roderick Strong called Who is Roderick Strong? Part 1 and it was great. It showed footage of him in his car and showed clips of him wrestling and working out on NXT. He talked about how he will prove to the NXT fans that he is a champion. He felt that he hasn’t told his story yet as he shared a tragic story about his childhood. He talked about how his mother is a huge inspiration in his life and his mother got a chance to express her feelings on Roderick Strong’s success in wrestling. He then talked about how Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart trained him and his father into wrestling. He talked about how he had his own wrestling in his backyard where he began to work on his craft, developed his passion wrestling, and where he became the man he is today.

This was great as it shows who Roderick Strong is as a character and a person making the fans watching at home care about him more because of what he has to go through to get to this point so that’s great to see. I hope this means a push for Roderick Strong in NXT in the near future. Great vignette here.

Part 2 of Who is Roderick Strong? will be shown next week which I’m looking forward as I want to know more about Roderick Strong outside of wrestling so I’m looking forward to the vignette next week.

Aleister Black Vs. Kona Reeves was a good squash match. It was cool to see Kona Reeves back on NXT as he has a lot of potential. I like this theme and he’s showing character and personality so that’s good.

Even though Kona Reeves got some offense in this match, Aleister Black finished Kona Reeves off with the spinning heel kick for the pin and win. Another win for Aleister Black as he’s looking to climb up the ranks in NXT. Fade to black!

Good squash match and I’m interested to see what’s next for Aleister Black and Kona Reeves in NXT.

The backstage interview with Ruby Riot by Christy St. Cloud was good. Ruby Riot talked about that she wants to settle the score with Nikki Cross and that she could probably support SAnitY’s non-conformist tendencies, but the problem is that SAnitY is pushing their ways on everyone else. She then said that when she gets pushed, she’ll push back and her ultimate goal is the NXT Women’s Championship.

It seems like Ruby Riot really wants to get her hands on Nikki Cross and I don’t blame her as she has been in her head for the past few weeks. Looking forward to the match between the two even though I think this match should have been saved at NXT Chicago. Good backstage interview here.

The segment with Andrade “Cien” Almas and Kayla Braxton was good. Andrade “Cien” Almas was outside in the parking lot with some women as Kayla Braxton went up to him and asked him about his match. Andrade “Cien” Almas was busy to talk to Kayla Braxton as he was being flanked by two women and more who await him in the SUV limo and he left without saying anything.

It seems like Andrade “Cien” Almas really doesn’t care about his losses at the moment because he’s only caring about partying at the moment. I can see where they’re going with this, but I believe that Andrade “Cien” Almas should win more as I think he could be a star for NXT and a worthy NXT Champion if pushed and booked right. However, I’m willing to see where they go with this. Tranquilo!

Ruby Riot Vs. Nikki Cross never happened as when Ruby Riot was making her entrance, Nikki Cross attacked her from behind. Nikki Cross slammed Ruby Riot back-first into the ring apron as she tried to drag Ruby Riot to the back, but Ruby Riot slammed her head on the ramp and then followed it up with a suplex.

Nikki Cross threw Ruby Riot into the side of the entrance stage as referees tried to break up the two of them. Ruby Riot then punched a security guard aside and flied off the stage with a crossbody on Nikki Cross and officials. The fight continued on and the referees came in to pull the women apart. Four officials were holding Nikki Cross to separate her from Ruby Riot as they head up to the back with Nikki Cross.

I’m glad they didn’t do the match as this match should be saved at NXT Chicago and the way they interacted with each other, I would love to see a Street Fight between the two which would be cool. Can’t wait to see this match when it happens.

Good segment as I can’t wait to see Ruby Riot Vs. Nikki Cross when it finally happens.

The backstage segment between William Regal and Asuka was good. William Regal was standing with Asuka in his office as he told Asuka that there will be a new #1 Contender for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT Chicago and it will be determined in a battle royal next week. Asuka then scoffed at William Regal as she left.

It seems like Asuka doesn’t care who wins the battle royal next week as she thinks she will win regardless. I guess we’ll find out next week when we see her opponent at NXT Chicago. Good backstage segment here.

Tyler Bate Vs. Gentleman Jack Gallagher for the WWE United Kingdom Championship was an excellent match. Mark out moment! Also, Tyler Bate has returned to NXT and Gentleman Jack Gallagher has made his debut on NXT! Mark out moment for both! Both men delivered an excellent technical match where either man could have won the match and it would be believable.

Gentleman Jack Gallagher did excellent in this match as he tried to capture the WWE United Kingdom Championship. The way he worked on Tyler Bate’s arm throughout the match was excellent in-ring psychology. His headbutt to Tyler Bate looked painful as heck. Excellent performance from Tyler Bate here.

Tyler Bate did excellent in this match too as he tried to retain his WWE United Kingdom Championship. His rolling wheel kick on Gentleman Jack Gallagher was well executed. Excellent performance from Tyler Bate here.

The ending of the match came when Tyler Bate hit Gentleman Jack Gallagher with the Tyler Driver ’97 (Sitout double underhook powerbomb) for the pin and win. A great win for Tyler Bate as he continued to prove why he deserves to be the WWE United Kingdom Champion.

After the match, we see Trent Seven, Mark Andrews, Pete Dunne, and Wolfgang in the crowd! Mark out moment for all of them! Nice to see them there as I didn’t expect them to be there. This was probably to promote the weekly WWE UK show on the WWE Network that is coming soon which I can’t wait for so I’m looking forward to that.

Excellent match and I can’t wait for the weekly WWE UK show on the WWE Network in the near future.

Overall, good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we are going to have a #1 Contender Battle Royal to determine the #1 Contender for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT Chicago which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
