The WWE United Kingdom Championship Special on May 19, 2017 was a great show. This show was a showcase of the best UK wrestlers in the world as they compete to see who is the best. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package highlighting the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament as well as Wolfgang, Joseph Conners, Pete Dunne, Trent Seven, Mark Andrews, and Tyler Bate on what the WWE United Kingdom Championship means to them. This is good to help hype up the show which should be great. Well produced video package here.

Now, before I talk about the show itself, I have to talk about the presentation for this show. The presentation for this show is great as it is very similar to the presentation of the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament. It feels very different from you what you have seen in WWE Raw, WWE Smackdown, and even NXT and 205 Live in that matter. The crowd in the Epic Studios in Norwich, England was very hot for this show so props to them for being such a great crowd.

The commentary team for this show consists of Jim Ross and Nigel McGuinness. Mark out moment for Jim Ross for being a commentator for this show! Great to see and hear Jim Ross on this show as he showed emotion, called the action, and called the story in the ring. Nigel McGuinness is one of the best UK wrestlers ever. With the knowledge that both Jim Ross and Nigel McGuinness have for the commentary table in this show is great and they display that here on this show. Great commentary team.

Wolfgang Vs. Joseph Conners was a great match. When Wolfgang and Joseph Conners were making their entrance to the ring, we got a video package from them showing highlights of the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament as Wolfgang said that losing to the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament was tough for him, but he’s going to get back up while Joseph Conners said that he’s going to be a future star in the UK wrestling scene. This is good as it shows who Wolfgang and Joseph Conners are as characters and how they feel about themselves in the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament. Anyway, let’s get back to the match itself.

Joseph Conners did great in this match as he’s trying to make a name for himself in the United Kingdom division. The way he was working on Wolfgang’s ribs was great in-ring psychology. His baseball slide dropkick to Wolfgang to the ring post looked painful as heck. Great performance from Joseph Conners here.

Wolfgang did great in this match as well as he’s tried to show that he is “The Last King of Scotland”. His counter to Joseph Conners’ diving crossbody with the double knee gutbuster was well executed and his counter to Joseph Conners’ diving axe handle with a spear was done beautifully. Great performance from Wolfgang here.

The ending of the match came when Wolfgang hit The Howling (High-angle senton bomb) on Joseph Conners for the pin and win. A great win for Wolfgang to show why he is “The Last King of Scotland”.

Great match and I can’t wait to see the development of Wolfgang and Joseph Conners in the United Kingdom division in the near future.

We then see Mark Andrews and Tyler Bate warming up backstage as they get ready for their match later on the show. This is good as it shows that both men are here and are ready to compete which should be a great match between the two. Looking forward to it.

Rich Swann & Dan Moloney Vs. TJP & The Brian Kendrick was a good tag team match. Mark out moment for Rich Swann, TJP, and The Brian Kendrick appearing on this show! Nice to see the cruiserweights on this show. Anyway, back to the show itself.

Rich Swann & Dan Moloney did well in this match too as they showed some good chemistry as a tag team. The way Dan Moloney tossed up Rich Swann for Rich Swann to hit the somersault dive on TJP & The Brian Kendrick to the outside was nice team work there. Rich Swann’s somersault leg drop on the back of The Brian Kendrick’s head was beautifully done. Good performances from Rich Swann & Dan Moloney here.

TJP & The Brian Kendrick did well in this match as they showed some very interesting chemistry as a tag team. I like the part where Dan Moloney escaped The Brian Kendrick’s arm grip which led to TJP grabbing The Brian Kendrick’s arm as he pulled it down in the corner without realizing it until he saw Dan Moloney outside of the ring which was funny to see. The way they worked down Rich Swann & Dan Moloney to get themselves heel heat was well done. Good performances from TJP & The Brian Kendrick here.

The ending of the match came when TJP helped The Brian Kendrick roll up Dan Moloney as he pulled the tights for the pin and win. A sneaky win for TJP & The Brian Kendrick, but a win regardless. Nice showing for Dan Moloney in this match here.

Good tag team match and I can’t wait to see the development of Dan Moloney in the United Kingdom division in the near future.

We then get a recap of what happened on Day 1 of Norwich England where Wolfgang injured Trent Seven’s arm as we get a backstage interview with Trent Seven by Charly Caruso. Charly Caruso asked Trent Seven about his condition where Trent Seven said that his arm hurts, but there’s no major injuries.

As he was about to continue, Pete Dunne came in as Trent Seven told him that he’ll see him soon as he slapped his hand. Pete Dunne then grabbed Trent Seven’s arm and slammed it to the wall as Pete Dunne left.

Man, Pete Dunne is such a bully and such a great heel for doing antics and actions like that. I’m pretty sure that will take effect on Trent Seven’s performance against Pete Dunne. Looking forward to that match which should be great.

We then go to Jim Ross and Nigel McGuinness as they talked about the actions that Pete Dunne did to Trent Seven backstage. Jim Ross said that he didn’t like it and Nigel McGuinness said that Pete Dunne will take advantage of it to win. It’s nice to see the commentators to talk about the situation as they give more story to the match which I enjoy. Looking forward to Trent Seven Vs. Pete Dunne which comes up next.

We then get a vignette of both Pete Dunne and Trent Seven and they were good. Pete Dunne talked about how he got the credit he deserves after being in the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament, and now, all he needs is that WWE United Kingdom Championship. Trent Seven talked about how he may be fun and games outside of the ring, but in the ring, he can take people down as he can hit harder than anyone. Trent Seven then said that he needs to win the WWE United Kingdom Championship in order to prove himself. Pete Dunne said that he’s going to become WWE United Kingdom Champion as it’s his.

A nice way to build up both characters and why they want the WWE United Kingdom Championship. Looking forward to the match so let’s get to it!

Trent Seven Vs. Pete Dunne in a #1 Contender’s match for the WWE United Kingdom Championship was an excellent match. Mark out moment! Pete Dunne came out with the PROGRESS Championship when he made his entrance! Mark out moment! Great to see PROGRESS getting some representation on this show which is nice to see. Anyway, let’s talk about the match itself.

Trent Seven did excellent in this match as he tried to be #1 Contender for the WWE United Kingdom Championship. His suicide dive on Pete Dunne through the second rope was well executed. His dragon suplex on Pete Dunne on the ring apron looked devastating and painful as heck.

Pete Dunne did excellent in this match as well as he also tried to become the #1 Contender for the WWE United Kingdom Championship. The way he worked on Trent Seven’s right arm throughout the whole match was excellent in-ring psychology there.

There was a part of the match where I thought the match was over when Pete Dunne hit an enzuiguri on Trent Seven, but Trent Seven hit Pete Dunne a big clothesline that almost turned him inside out where I thought it was over when Trent Seven pin Pete Dunne, but he kicked out. Excellent performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Pete Dunne hit the Bitter End (Pumphandle lift into a reverse STO) on Trent Seven for the pin and win. A great win for Pete Dunne as he will face the WWE United Kingdom Champion at NXT Chicago.

After the match, Pete Dunne grabbed a mic and said that he told people that people would get hurt. However, the goal remains the same for him as he’s going to take the WWE United Kingdom Championship at NXT Chicago by any means necessary.

A big statement from Pete Dunne there as he’s looking to become WWE United Kingdom Champion at NXT Chicago and I could see him being the future WWE United Kingdom Champion.

Excellent match and I’m interested to see what next in the development of Trent Seven and Pete Dunne in the United Kingdom division in the near future.

We then get a vignette of both Tyler Bate and Mark Andrews and they were good. Tyler Bate talked about how being the WWE United Kingdom Champion brought a lot of pressure to him, but he’s willing to take that pressure as he wants to remain the WWE United Kingdom Champion. Mark Andrews talked about how he wanted to show the world that he is the best wrestler in the UK and felt short on that with the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament, but now, he has another chance by trying to beat Tyler Bate. Tyler Bate talked about how he and Mark Andrews are friends, but once that bell rings, that friendship goes to the side as he will beat Mark Andrews to retain his championship. Mark Andrews said that he will take advantage of Tyler Bate’s lack of experience to show that he is the best in the UK. Tyler Bate said that he’s ready for what Mark Andrews has in store for him. Mark Andrews said that he’s going to prove that the sky is the limit for him. Tyler Bate then said that he’s looking forward to the challenge and he will prove why he is the WWE United Kingdom Champion.

Just like with Pete Dunne and Trent Seven, this was a nice way to build up both characters and what the WWE United Kingdom Championship means to them. Looking forward to the match so let’s get to it!

Tyler Bate Vs. Mark Andrews for the WWE United Kingdom Championship was an excellent match. Mark out moment! Both of these men went out there and delivered an excellent match where neither man looked weak in the process.

Mark Andrews did excellent in this match as he tried to become the WWE United Kingdom Champion. His somersault dive onto Tyler Bate on the outside was well executed. His standing shiranui on Tyler Bate on the ring apron looked devastating as heck. His counter to Tyler Bate’s suplex into a stunner was beautifully done.

Tyler Bate did excellent in this match as well as he tried to retain the WWE United Kingdom Championship. His suicide dive on Mark Andrews was well executed. His superkick and him bouncing off the ropes into a lariat on Mark Andrews was cool to see. The way he countered Mark Andrews’ shooting star press by having both of his knees up was smart from Tyler Bate there.

There were certain parts in the match where I thought the match was over as it could have gone either way between the both of them in this match. Tyler Bate was about to go for the Tyler Driver 97′ on Mark Andrews, but Mark Andrews reversed it into a hurricanrana pin and Tyler Bate kicked out of it. That spot was awesome. Another spot where I thought it was over was when Tyler Bate was doing the airplane spin on Mark Andrews and once Tyler Bate was about to continue the airplane spin, Mark Andrews hit a reverse hurricanrana on Tyler Bate and went for the pin, but Tyler Bate kicked out of that as well. Incredible. Excellent performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Tyler Bate hit the Tyler Driver 97′ on Mark Andrews for the pin and win. A tremendous win for Tyler Bate as he’s heading to NXT Chicago as the WWE United Kingdom Champion.

After the match, a referee was carrying Mark Andrews to the back, but Pete Dunne came and pushed Mark Andrews down to the floor. This led to William Regal coming down to the ramp and tried to talk some sense into Pete Dunne as both William Regal and Pete Dunne head to the ring. Pete Dunne then offered his hand to Tyler Bate, but Tyler Bate refused to as both men stare at each other to end the show.

It’s going to be great to see a rematch between Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne for the WWE United Kingdom Championship, but this time, it will be in NXT Chicago which should be another excellent match between the two and I can’t wait.

Excellent match and good post-match as I’m looking forward to Tyler Bate Vs. Pete Dunne for the WWE United Kingdom Championship at NXT Chicago.

Overall, this was a great show that showcased the talents of the UK wrestlers. Hope to see WWE do another one of these in the near future as this was fun to watch. Till then, I will see you next time when WWE does another UK special on the WWE Network.
