NXT 5/31/17 Review: No Way… Jose for SAnitY

NXT on May 31, 2017 was a great show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a promo segment from Tommaso Ciampa and it was great. Tommaso Ciampa came down to the ring with no music and with crutches as the fans booed. He asked Johnny Gargano to come out to the ring, but rememberd that Johnny Gargano isn’t here as he went on to talk about how it felt to be replaced as the crowd started booing him.

He admit that he sustained an injury before NXT Chicago, but he knew he was going to fight anyway because that’s what #DIY does. However, he then started to talk about how the fans think that he could be replacable as they want dream tag team partners for Johnny Gargano, but he wasn’t going to let that happen as he wanted to fight and they did. In the end, they lost and Tommaso Ciampa said that he got injured in the match. Despite that, he kept fighting for Johnny Gargano and the fans.

He then talked about how at the end of the match, he was afraid that Johnny Gargano wouldn’t hesitate to replace him as he doesn’t want to be an afterthought. He then mentioned if he’s going away for a long time, so does Johnny Gargano.

Tommaso Ciampa then talked about how #DIY was a tag team that was special that gotten fans and wrestlers together living their dreams and searching for their moment as NXT Chicago was supposed to be their moment. Unfortunately, it wasn’t their moment, but it was his moment.

Tommaso Ciampa then started to say that the ring is irreplacable along with himself and Johnny Gargano, but the fans are. He then mentioned that once he comes back from injury, he’s going to be the most dangerous man in NXT as he left the ring.

Tommaso Ciampa did give out very good reasons on why he turned on Johnny Gargano, but that doesn’t changed the fact that #DIY is no more and he will still be hated for that. Unfortunately, I don’t think we will see this feud continue between Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa until both men recover so I wish both a safety recovery.

Great promo segment and get well soon Tommaso Ciampa.

We then get a vignette of Danny Burch and it was good. It was basically the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament vignette they aired with him with added highlights from the tournament and NXT so it was all good. Can’t wait to see Danny Burch back in action. Good vignette here.

We then get an announcement from Tom Phillips, Percy Watson, and Nigel McGuinness that Tommaso Ciampa will need surgery for his injury and there is no medical update for Johnny Gargano at this time. As I expected, this feud won’t continue until both men are recovered, but when it happens, it’s going to be awesome. Get well soon #DIY or former #DIY I guess.

The promo from Bobby Roode inside his car earlier in the show was good. Bobby Roode was in car traveling around Florida as he talked about how the glorious celebration was supposed to happen on this show, but it won’t because it’s private so he’ll be there next week.

Man, Bobby Roode wants his celebration all on his own. I see how it is Bobby. It will be interesting to see what Bobby Roode has to say next week and it will be glorious. Good promo here.

Danny Burch Vs. Pete Dunne was an excellent match. Mark out moment! Danny Burch and Pete Dunne have made another appearance on NXT! Mark out moment for both! I expect that we’re going to get more WWE UK wrestlers on NXT down the line until that weekly WWE UK series on the WWE Network and this was another showcase of that.

Danny Burch did excellent in this match as he tried to prove that he can be the best UK wrestler in the world. His clothesline to Pete Dunne looked devastating and his rope-hung DDT on Pete Dunne from the top rope looked painful as heck. Excellent performance from Danny Burch here.

Pete Dunne did excellent in this match as well as he tried to show why he is the WWE United Kingdom Champion. His rolling release suplex on Danny Burch was well executed and his German suplex on Danny Burch to the turnbuckle looked painful as heck. Excellent performance from Pete Dunne here.

The ending of the match came when Pete Dunne hit Bitter End (Pumphandle lift into a reverse STO) on Danny Burch for the pin and win. Even though Danny Burch lost here, he looked excellent in defeat so he had nothing to be ashamed of. As for Pete Dunne, he showed why he is the WWE United Kingdom Champion.

After the match, Pete Dunne cut a promo on the mic saying that he had to watch a boy carry his title since January and history will remember that the championship reign didn’t really begin until he became champion and that champion is Pete Dunne.

I like how Pete Dunne was making fun of Tyler Bate there, that was cool. Pete Dunne is going to do great as the WWE United Kingdom Champion and he’s going to be champion for a long time. Bruiserweight!

Excellent match and I can’t wait to see the weekly WWE UK series on the WWE Network when it comes out.

The backstage interview with The Velveteen Dream by Kayla Braxton was good. Kayla Braxton was about to asked The Velveteen Dream about his debut last week, but The Velveteen Dream interrupted her and said that the ambiance isn’t right and it has to be perfect for him and then maybe he’ll talk as he walked away.

Loving the character of The Velveteen Dream already. I can’t wait to see who he will feud with first in NXT because he’s an interesting character to have someone feud with so I’m looking forward to that. Good backstage interview here.

We then see a video package highlighting Authors of Pain with Paul Ellering narrating it and it was good. Paul Ellering talked about all has been foretold in the Book of Pain and they forged a new destiny with the Book of Pain, but it is now closed as The Book of Dominance has opened.

I really can’t argue of what Paul Ellering said there about Authors of Pain as they have been dominant as of late. I think that Heavy Machinery or TM-61 once Shane Thorne recovers from injury will grab the NXT Tag Team Championships from Authors of Pain, but we’ll see. Well produced video package here.

Cezar Bononi Vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas was a good match. This was a good match that showcased both men skills in the ring.

Andrade “Cien” Almas did well in this match as he showcased his skills in the ring. His running double knees to the corner on Cezar Bononi looked devastating and his slap to the corner on Cezar Bononi looked painful as heck. Cezar Bononi did well in this match too as he tried to make a name for himself in NXT. His knee strikes to Andrade “Cien” Almas were well executed. Good performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Andrade “Cien” Almas was about to hit a vertical suplex on Cezar Bononi, but Cezar Bononi reversed the vertical suplex into a small package for the pin and win. Wow, I didn’t expect Andrade “Cien” Almas was going to lose here as I thought he was going to win so this was a shock to me. Even though I didn’t like Andrade “Cien” Almas losing here, this was a great win for Cezar Bononi so good for him.

After the match, Andrade “Cien” Almas became furious as he picked up a chair at ringside and slammed it on the mat until he calmed down a bit later as he laughed it off as he walked up the ramp.

It seems like Andrade “Cien” Almas doesn’t mind losing, but he should because if he wants to become NXT Champion, he needs to win matches. I’m sick and tired of seeing Andrade “Cien” Almas losing most of the time and I believe he should get a push to the NXT Championship picture so do it NXT!

Good match and NXT, push Andrade “Cien” Almas!

The segment between The Iconic Duo and Ember Moon at the Performance Center was good. The Iconic Duo were at the Performance Center as they asked the camera man to give them a little space as they’re looking for an iconic do-over of the room. As they were discussing that, Ember Moon walked in as The Iconic Duo said that Ember Moon has ruined their train of thought as they want to beat her up.

A trainer then came by to ask Ember Moon to sign off on being medically as Ember Moon told The Iconic Duo that she will see them soon as she left.

It seems like Ember Moon is ready to wrestle again after her arm injury a few weeks ago and it looks like she’s going to do it with The Iconic Duo. We’ll see how The Iconic Duo deal with Ember Moon once we see Ember Moon back in action. Good segment here.

We then get an announcement that in two weeks, it will be Asuka Vs. Ruby Riot Vs. Nikki Cross for the NXT Women’s Championship in a Triple Threat Elimination match. We’re going to get a rematch from NXT Chicago and it’s going to happen on NXT TV in a triple threat elimination match. This should be a lot of fun so I can’t wait to watch that in two weeks.

We then get a recap of what happened at NXT Chicago when Hideo Itami lost to Bobby Roode as we see him backstage after his match being pissed off as Kassius Ohno tried to calm him down and tried to relate to him, but Hideo Itami started to swear at him as he left pissed off.

Then earlier in the show, we see Hideo Itami asking for forgiveness from Kassius Ohno in the parking lot as Kassius Ohno shook hands with Hideo Itami as Hideo Itami left afterwards. This is good as it showed how Hideo Itami felt about losing to Bobby Roode at NXT Chicago where I don’t blame him for being pissed off. Though, it would be cool to see a match between Kassius Ohno and Hideo Itami. Maybe we will, but we’ll see.

We then get an announcement that next week, it will be Hideo Itami Vs. Oney Lorcan which should be a hard hitting match so I’m looking forward to that. Should be great.

Roderick Strong & Kassius Ohno Vs. SAnitY was a great tag team match. Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe were representing SAnitY in this match with Killian Dain at ringside and these four delivered a great tag team match where neither team looked weak in the process.

SAnitY did great in this match as they tried to get their revenge on Roderick Strong and Kassius Ohno for feuding with them the past few weeks. Alexander Wolfe’s double underhook suplex on Kassius Ohno was well executed and Eric Young’s heel tactics in this match got him good heel heat. Roderick Strong and Kassius Ohno did great in this match as they tried to get a win over SAnitY for what they have done to them for the past few weeks. Kassius Ohno’s strikes in this match looked devastating and when Roderick Strong got the hot tag from Kassius Ohno, he cleaned house on SAnitY so that was cool to see. Great performances by both teams here.

The ending of the match came when Eric Young called out Killian Dain to help him, but No Way Jose rushed down the ramp and attacked Killian Dain from behind by sending him to the ring-post! Mark out moment for No Way Jose returning to NXT! We haven’t seen No Way Jose in NXT since the attack from SAnitY on him since Wrestlemania weekend so seeing him back here was great as he got a good reaction from the crowd. This led to Kassius Ohno hitting the discus elbow smash on Alexander Wolfe and Roderick Strong hitting the End of Heartache (Vertical suplex into a double knee backbreaker) on Eric Young for the pin and win. A good win for Roderick Strong and Kassius Ohno as they got a victory over SAnitY as they celebrate with No Way Jose up the ramp as SAnitY stared at them from the ring. It seems like we may get a feud between Roderick Strong, Kassius Ohno, No Way Jose, and SAnitY for the time being so I’m fine with that.

Great tag team match and I’m interested to see what’s next for Roderick Strong, Kassius Ohno, No Way Jose, and SAnitY in NXT.

Overall, great show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we are going to have Hideo Itami Vs. Oney Lorcan and in two weeks, Asuka Vs. Ruby Riot Vs. Nikki Cross for the NXT Women’s Championship in a Triple Threat Elimination match which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
