Lucha Underground 5/11/16 Review: Monsters Have Grave Conseqeunces

Lucha Underground on May 11, 2016 was a great show that is building feuds and storylines for the future as well as building up new characters which is good, and ending feuds that have been going on for months. Let’s break it down:

Now, before I get onto the review, Lucha Underground has posted an online exclusive match between Fenix Vs. Jack Evans. I won’t say much about the match since this match is not really part of the review, but I decided to put this video on this review anyway since Lucha Underground uploaded this match on Youtube.

All I have to say is that it was a good match and the interaction between Fenix and Jack Evans was very entertaining. Here’s the full match to see it for yourself. Enjoy! Now, let’s get on to the review.

We start off the show with a recap of what happened between Dario Cueto, the participants in the Four Way Trios match for the Lucha Underground Trios Championships two weeks ago, Captain Vasquez, Councilman Delgado, Matanza, Mil Muertes and Catrina earlier in the season of Lucha Underground Season 2. This is a good way to remind people about what happened during that time in case they missed it or forgot about it as this week, the people from the recap appeared on the show. Well done and well produced.

The video segment between Dario Cueto and Councilman Delgado was great. Dario Cueto is shown walking backstage to a bar as he meets up with Councilman Delgado. Dario Cueto gives him money and Councilman Delgado says that his employee will be pleased. Dario Cueto was about to leave until Councilman Delgado stops him.

Councilman Delgado tells Dario Cueto that the cops are coming for him and there is a possibility that someone is going to get him sooner rather than later. Dario Cueto claims that he would know, but he wasn’t sure. Councilman Delgado then tells Dario Cueto that his employer is coming to The Temple soon. He ends with, “What? Did you think your brother would have all the fun?” as both men drink.

Man, having both Dario Cueto and Councilman Delgado in the same segment is pretty awesome. I am very interested with this storyline right now especially on who is Councilman Delgado’s employer. What does he want with Dario Cueto? Why does he have something against Dario Cueto? Why is he going after Dario Cueto? So many questions, but not many answers and I hope we get the answers for these pretty soon. Other than that, I’m very intrigued with this storyline and let’s see where it goes. Great video segment here.

Mr. Cisco Vs. Cortez Castro Vs. Joey Ryan in a 3 Way Gift of the Gods Aztec Medallion match was solid for what it was. Again, I said this many times before and I will say it again. Give entrances to your wrestlers Lucha Underground! Thank you.

Also, this match was very short as this match only went about a little over a minute. However, I do like that Joey Ryan wins and he will move on to the Gift of the Gods Championship match. A shame that The Cop Crew broken up as we do need more trios, but hey, it is what it is. Hope to see more of The Crew in the future as well as I think they could be a great part in Lucha Underground.

With Joey Ryan’s win, he now joins Texano, Aero Star, Cage, The Mack, Siniestro de la Muerte, and Sexy Star in the Gift of the Gods Championship match. This looks to be very good and I can’t wait to see who will be the next Gift of the Gods Champion as we’ll find that out next week.

Solid 3 Way match for the time it got and can’t wait to see the Gift of the Gods Championship match as well as what’s next for The Crew.

The video segment between Catrina, Mil Muertes, and King Cuerno was great. Catrina meets with Mil Muertes at his lair and Catrina says that she has waited for this moment for one 197 years. She talks to Mil Muertes about their past and she wants Mil Muertes to watch her lick Matanza’s face. As Catrina and Mil Muertes leave, King Cuerno appears as he stares down towards Catrina and Mil Muertes.

Holy shoot! Catrina has waited for a moment like this for 197 years?! Dang she’s old! However, she is very fine at her age. Just incredible. I wonder what kind of power she has to make herself look so young.

Anyway, enough of that. This was great to hype up the Matanza Vs. Mil Muertes Grave Consequences match for the Lucha Underground Championship. I can’t wait to talk about that match. Plus, I knew we were going to get a King Cuerno Vs. Mil Muertes feud in Lucha Underground. Yes! That should be a great feud when it happens. Great video segment here.

The Ultimate Flight Crew Vs. The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs and Johnny Mundo for the Lucha Underground Trios Championships was good. With Angelico out of the picture, The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs need a new partner for the trio and it turns out that Dario Cueto has assigned Johnny Mundo as their partner with Taya accompanying him. Man, talk about tough luck. I have a feeling this won’t end well.

This was a good trios match where everyone in the match managed to get to shine. I love the interaction between Rey Mysterio and Son of Havoc as I would love to see a one on one match between the two of them in the near future. Also, love how the commentators mention the history between Prince Puma and Johnny Mundo when they face off, that was a nice touch.

As expected, The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs and Johnny Mundo couldn’t work well together as there were a lot of miscommunication between them especially with Ivelisse and Taya. At one point, Johnny Mundo accidentally hit Ivelisse during the match which led to The Ultimate Flight Crew getting the win as they triple team on Son of Havoc to get the pin and win.

I love how as Rey Mysterio was about to finish Son of Havoc off, he decided to give Prince Puma the spotlight which is very nice of him. Much respect to Rey Mysterio there as he knows that Prince Puma is the face of Lucha Underground so that’s awesome. Can’t wait to see who are the next challengers for The Ultimate Flight Crew for the Lucha Underground Trios Championships. Should be interesting to see.

After the match, Taya attacked Ivelisse and laid her out as she was attending Son of Havoc to see if he was okay or not. This will probably lead to The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs Vs. Johnny Mundo and Taya feud which I’m all for as we never get to see these four feud with each other so that should be interesting to see. Looking forward to this feud between The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs Vs. Johnny Mundo and Taya.

Good trios match as I’m looking forward to what’s next for The Ultimate Flight Crew as well as being interested in The Baddest Iron Heartthrobs Vs. Johnny Mundo and Taya feud.

Matanza Vs. Mil Muertes in Grave Consequences for the Lucha Underground Championship was excellent. Mark out moment! Before the match began, we get the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) ceremony to set up Grave Consequences. Love the presentation for this match as it’s very different from other matches being presented so this was well done. Love that they’re doing the Aztec/Hispanic/Latino culture of Dia of Los Muertes (Day of the Dead) which is a very important tradition in their culture so Lucha Underground did a good job on that. Love the presentation, it was good.

The match itself was pretty insane. Basically, Grave Consequences is a Casket match with a different name, but I like the name of that match better because it sounds epic. Even though I feel like the Grave Consequences match between Fenix Vs. Mil Muertes last season was better, this Grave Consequences match has some memorable moments in its own right. It was big two men and monsters trying to kill each other in that ring as they did suplexes to each other on coffins, powerbombs to each other on coffins, trying to take off each other’s mask, trying to make each other bleed, trying to hurt their managers, and so forth. It was a very back and forth match between the two big men and it was excellent.

The big spots in this match were Matanza hitting Catrina with a steel chair from behind knocking her out and placing her in the coffin, Mil Muertes choking out Matanza when he broke the coffin with his hand (Mark out moment! He’s The Undertaker! He’s back from the dead!), and Matanza hitting his Wrath of the Gods (Reverse-Spin Scoop Powerslam) to Mil Muertes into the coffin. Those were awesome spots as those spots made this match memorable.

Dang! Catrina is taking a lot of bumps even though she’s not an active wrestler in Lucha Underground. Big props to her. Also, good bye Catrina and Mil Muertes as it seems like both may be gone for the time being as they were both put into coffins with Matanza getting the victory. Hope we get to see them again a lot sooner because they are great.

However, that may not be the case for Catrina as after the match, Dario Cueto opens the coffin Catrina was put in, but she was gone. Well, Catrina does have teleportation powers so maybe she teleported to escape the coffin so who knows. At least we might get to see Catrina again so that’s a plus.

Also, after the match, the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) parade comes back to collect Mil Muertes and we see that one of the hooded men with them was King Cuerno! Mark out moment!

Yes! This is going to be the beginning of the King Cuerno Vs. Mil Muertes feud in Lucha Underground! Yes! Can’t wait for this feud to happen, it’s going to be great. Let the hunt begin!

Excellent match and great-post match. Looking forward to see what’s next for Matanza and interested to see the start of the King Cuerno Vs. Mil Muertes feud.

The video segment between Councilman Delgado and the mystery man was great. Councilman Delgado meets with a mystery man in a limo and gives the man money from Dario Cueto. As Councilman Delgado gives the man the money, he explains that he told Dario Cueto that his arrival to The Temple was coming soon. Councilman Delgado calls the man, “My Lord”, as we see a man smoking a cigarette in a dark background.

Man, I’m really intrigued with this storyline now as I still question on who is this man, what does he want, and so forth. I’m very interested to see where this storyline goes as we may get answers sooner rather than later. I’m looking forward to it when the time comes. Great video backstage segment here.

Overall, great show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters, and endings feud with good to excellent matches. So many storylines and feuds here and I love it! Next week, we’re going to have the 7 Way match for the Gift of the Gods Championship match which should be great. Looking forward to that. If you haven’t already, please check out Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
