NXT 6/7/17 Review: The Beast of Belfast

on

NXT on June 7, 2017 was a good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package to hype No Way Jose Vs. Killian Dain and Hideo Itami Vs. Oney Lorcan later on the show. This is good as it’s hyping up the matches later on the show which should be good. Well produced video package here.

Heavy Machinery Vs. Lars Sullivan & Victor Andrews was a good tag team match. Dylan Miley got a new name here with Lars Sullivan and that’s a pretty good name if I say so myself. We also got a pre-taped promo from Victor Andrews and Lars Sullivan where Victor Andrews said that he’s nervous, but this is the biggest opportunity he has gotten as Lars Sullivan wished him luck. Nice to see Victor Andrews get some promo time so good for him.

Lars Sullivan & Victor Andrews did well in this match as they tried to make a name for themselves in NXT. The reverse scoop powerslam on Tucker Knight by Lars Sullivan was very impressive. Heavy Machinery did well in this match too as they showed that they should be the next contenders for the NXT Tag Team Championships. I like the move where Tucker Knight got Victor Andrews in a bearhug and he just tossed him to Otis Dozovic who also got Victor Andrews in a bearhug so that was cool. Good performances by both teams here.

The ending of the match came when Otis Dozovic got Victor Andrews in a falling high-angle powerslam position as Tucker Knight hit a Lou Thesz Press on Otis Dozovic as he hit the falling high-angle powerslam on Victor Andrews for the pin and win. Love the innovation from Heavy Machinery as they’re looking to become the next NXT Tag Team Champions.

After the match, Lars Sullivan looked pissed from the ring apron as he entered the ring and started to beat down Victor Andrews. He then hit a uranage on Victor Andrews before leaving the ring.

It seems like once again, Lars Sullivan isn’t having any luck when it comes to tag team competition. I guess he should just go singles instead of tag team wrestling, but that’s all on him. I have no idea where they’re going with the character of Lars Sullivan, but I’m intrigued on what they’re going to do with him.

Good tag team match and I’m interested to see what’s next for Heavy Machinery and Lars Sullivan in NXT.

We then get a recap of what happened last week when No Way Jose returned to NXT to help even the odds in the Roderick Strong and Kassius Ohno Vs. SAnitY match. This is good as it showed what happened last week in case people missed it or forgot about it and plus, it ties into the next segment which I will talk about next.

The backstage interview with Killian Dain by Christy St. Cloud from last week was good. Christy St. Cloud asked Killian Dain about his upcoming match with No Way Jose as Killian Dain said that no one is safe especially No Way Jose as he left.

You don’t want to mess with Killian Dain as he is a beast so No Way Jose better be careful when facing Killian Dain. Should be an interesting big man match up. Good backstage interview here.

The promo segment between Roderick Strong and Bobby Roode was great. Roderick Strong came out to the ring and said that for the last seven to eight months, it has been a rollercoaster for him as he’s in NXT with a beautiful fiancee and a handsome baby boy back at home where he told his story to the NXT Universe. He then thanked everyone for accepting his story and he came here to NXT to become NXT Champion.

He then talked about how life has never been better, but there’s still one thing that he wants and that is the NXT Championship. He then said that it’s no longer Roddy Vs. The World, it’s his family Vs. The World as his family motivated him to be better as a person and as a wrestler.

As Roderick Strong was about to continue, Bobby Roode interrupted while crying and wiping his eyes with a tissue. He then started talking about how he felt so emotional for Roderick Strong’s story, but it was all sarcasm as he asked Roderick Strong if he’s proud of himself. Bobby Roode told Roderick Strong that he’s finally winning matches, his son is somewhat normal, his fiancee is hot, and that he should be proud.

He then told Roderick Strong that diapers are expensive and if Roderick Strong wants a match against him, he have to move from trailer park to a mansion on a hill as he told him it doesn’t work like that around here. He told Roderick Strong that he won’t get his chance when he wants one as he has to earn it. He asked Roderick Strong to saty here late and one day, they can take a selfie together and show it to his son and say that he’s the champ and Roderick Strong is his old man.

Bobby Roode then told Roderick Strong that he’s not man enough to win and wished him luck as Roderick Strong had no response for it.

It seems like we’re going to get our next NXT Championship match which will be Bobby Roode Vs. Roderick Strong and that should be a great match where I expect it will happen at NXT Brooklyn III. Looking forward to that match when it happens and this is the build for it.

Great promo segment as I’m interested to see what’s next in this Bobby Roode and Roderick Strong feud in NXT.

The promo that Nikki Cross cut on top of the arena was good. Nikki Cross said that she wants to play with Asuka as she ripped her jacket off and slamed it on the ground as she went nuts.

It seems like Nikki Cross is impatient for her championship match next week which should be great as she might get out of control. Good promo from Nikki Cross here.

We then get an announcement that next week, Asuka will defend the NXT Women’s Championship against Ruby Riot and Nikki Cross in a Triple Threat Elimination match which should be a great match and I’m looking forward to it.

The vignette of Authors of Pain with Paul Ellering narrating it was good. Paul Ellering talked about Authors of Pains’ next challengers for the NXT Tag Team Championships, but he felt like none of them are ready yet so he’s going to wait and see.

It seems like Paul Ellering is planning his next move for Authors of Pain. I wonder which tag team Paul Ellering will target. I guess we’ll find out soon enough. Good vignette here.

Sarah Logan Vs. Peyton Royce was a good women’s match. Sarah Logan has returned to NXT! Mark out moment! For those of you who don’t know, Sarah Logan is also known as Crazy Mary Dobson in her time in SHIMMER and she has been with NXT for quite a while, but now she has a new name and a new gimmick so that’s great to see.

Sarah Logan did well in this match as she tried to make a name for herself in the NXT Women’s division. Her running knee strike on Peyton Royce looked devastating. Peyton Royce did well in this match too as she’s representing The Iconic Duo in this match. Her spinning heel kick was well executed and her rolling fireman’s carry slam on Sarah Logan was beautifully done. Good performances by both women here.

The ending of the match came when Peyton Royce hit a bridging fisherman suplex on Sarah Logan for the pin and win. A good win for Peyton Royce, but Sarah Logan also fought well here so she had nothing to be ashamed of.

Good women’s match and I’m interested to see what’s next for Sarah Logan and The Iconic Duo in NXT.

We then get a recap of what happened last week when Cezar Bononi got an upset victory over Andrade “Cien” Almas where he got furious at first, but later cooled down. This is good as it shows what happened last week in case people missed it or forgot about it and it ties into the next segment which I will talk about next.

The segment with Andrade “Cien” Almas, Thea Trinidad, and Christy St. Cloud in the parking lot last week was good. Andrade “Cien” Almas was walking out in the parking lot as Christy St. Cloud asked him about his loss against Cezar Bononi, but he ignored her as he was talking with the ladies. Thea Trinidad then came in and slapped Andrade “Cien” Almas in the face as she left!

Thea Trinidad has made an appearance in NXT! Mark out moment! For those of you who don’t know, Thea Trinidad is known her work as Rosita in TNA back in 2010 to 2011 so seeing her here was great and it seems like she’s a part of NXT now if she’s in an angle with Andrade “Cien” Almas. Is Thea Trinidad going to be the one who helps Andrade “Cien” Almas get back to his winning ways? I hope so, that would be great. Good segment here.

Hideo Itami Vs. Oney Lorcan was a great match. This match was hard hitting, but where both men gave each other very hard hits where it looked like both men could be hurt.

Oney Lorcan did great in this match as he tried to make a statement for himself in NXT. His strikes in this match were lethal and his somersault senton from the top rope on to the outside on Hideo Itami was cool to see. Hideo Itami also did great in this match as he tried to recover his loss from NXT Chicago. Just like with Oney Lorcan, his strikes and kicks were lethal in this match. Great performances by both men here.

Despite that, there was no ending to the match as Hideo Itami ended up hitting Oney Lorcan with three Go To Sleeps without going for the pin. As Hideo Itami was about to hit Oney Lorcan with a fourth Go To Sleep, Kassius Ohno then ran down to the ring and asked Hideo Itami on why he wouldn’t stop. The two then shoved each other and then Hideo Itami left the ring after being shoved from Kassius Ohno.

It seems like the loss against Bobby Roode at NXT Chicago really had an effect on Hideo Itami which is why he took out his frustrations on Oney Lorcan and Kassius Ohno. Will this lead to a heel turn for Hideo Itami and will we get a feud between Kassius Ohno and Hideo Itami from this? To me, I’m not really sure where this is going, but I am intrigued on what they’re going to do from here.

Great match and I’m interested to see where this feud between Kassius Ohno and Hideo Itami is going.

We then get a video package of Drew McIntyre as he will be in action next week. Nice to see NXT making a big deal out of Drew McIntyre and I see him being back in the NXT Championship picture soon. Well produced video package here.

We then get another announcement to remind us that next week, it will be Asuka Vs. Ruby Riot Vs. Nikki Cross for the NXT Women’s Championship in a Triple Threat Elimination match. A nice reminder that they mentioned earlier in the show. Should be great.

The backstage interview with Ember Moon by Christy St. Cloud was good. Christy St. Cloud asked Ember Moon about not being in the Triple Threat Elimination match for the NXT Women’s Championship as Ember Moon responded by saying that she’s not happy about missing these opportunities as she has re-evaluated her interests and objectives. However, she promised that she’s going to make good on the opportunity to become NXT Women’s Champion.

Ember Moon is back and healthy as she’s looking to get another shot at the NXT Women’s Championship. I can’t wait for her to get back in the ring and hopefully, she’ll get that rematch with Asuka for the NXT Women’s Championship soon. Good backstage interview here.

No Way Jose Vs. Killian Dain was a great match. No Way Jose has made in-ring return on NXT! Mark out moment! I missed seeing the excitement that No Way Jose brings to the crowd so seeing that was great.

No Way Jose did great in this match as he tried to get revenge on what SAnitY has done to him. His fireman’s carry into a cutter on Killian Dain was impressive showcasing his strength. Killian Dain was great in this match too as he showed that he’s a valuable part of SAnitY and shouldn’t be taken lightly. His running front missile dropkick on No Way Jose to the corner was impressive to see. Great performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Killian Dain hit the Ulster Plantation (One-handed electric chair driver) on No Way Jose for the pin and win. A good win for Killian Dain as he looked strong here in this match and No Way Jose put a good fight against him in his return.

Great match and I’m interested to see what’s next for No Way Jose and No Way Jose in NXT.

Overall, good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we are going to have Asuka Vs. Ruby Riot Vs. Nikki Cross for the NXT Women’s Championship in a Triple Threat Elimination match and Drew McIntyre in action which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
