NXT 5/11/16 Review: The Demon Has Reawakened

Published

on

NXT on May 11, 2016 was a good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines for the NXT live special on June 8th. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a vignette of the feud between Finn Balor and Samoa Joe for the NXT Championship. This was good as it shows what happened between these two and it shows why these two are fighting at the moment. Finn Balor makes his return to NXT next. Can’t wait. Well-produced vignette here.

The promo segment between Finn Balor and Elias Samson was pretty good. Finn Balor comes out and thanks the NXT Full Sail crowd for supporting him since coming into NXT. He says that him and Samoa Joe went to war for the past couple of months where he gained victories over Samoa Joe at NXT London and NXT Dallas, but at Mayhem in Massachusetts, he failed.

As Finn Balor is about to continue, Elias Samson comes in and interrupts Finn Balor as he sings a song to him. As Elias Samson is singing, Finn Balor didn’t look at Elias Samson at all. After Elias Samson finishes his song, he tells Finn Balor that he is nothing without his NXT Championship which leads to Finn Balor hitting a back flip kick onto Elias Samson. As Elias Samson retreats, Finn Balor plays Elias Samson’s guitar for a little bit before throwing it back to Elias Samson.

Wow, I was expecting Finn Balor to break the guitar, but gladly that didn’t happen. The promo that Finn Balor cut was pretty good and the song that Elias Samson sang to Finn Balor was pretty good as well. Such a disrespectful crowd from Full Sail. Let him sing dang it! Well at least Finn Balor didn’t interrupt Elias Samson’s song which is nice. All this will lead to Finn Balor Vs. Elias Samson in the main event later on the show. Should be a good match. Looking forward to it.

Good promo segment and looking forward to seeing Finn Balor Vs. Elias Samson in the main event later on the show.

We then get a backstage interview with Eric Young by Cathy Kelley last week in a WWE.com Exclusive and it was pretty good. Eric Young tells Cathy Kelley that the best are in NXT and that’s why he’s here to prove that he belongs in NXT. He then says that he is a World Class Professional and a World Class Maniac, and he will prove it time and time again.

Great to see a post-match interview from Eric Young after his match last week against Samoa Joe in which I thought it was great. I like how Eric Young is still being himself which is good. I wonder if we’ll see Eric Young more in NXT, but only time will tell. Good backstage interview here.

The backstage interview with Finn Balor by Andrea D’Marco was great. Andrea D’Marco catches up with Finn Balor and asks him about his message towards Samoa Joe. Finn Balor replies with that he’s going to give Samoa Joe his message after he beats up Elias Samson.

This was great because it shows how much Finn Balor wants to get his hands on Samoa Joe and Elias Samson after what they did to him so good character development here. Great backstage interview here.

American Alpha Vs. Corey Hollis and John Skyler was a good tag team match. Holy shoot! Corey Hollis and John Skyler made another appearance on NXT! Mark out moment! NXT, sign this team as you need more tag teams! Do it!

Okay enough with that, but I was glad to see Corey Hollis and John Skyler again as they are pretty a good tag team. Love the new attire that they have, it looks awesome. American Alpha were their usual selves being great and that is great.

Towards the end of the match, The Revival show up on the ramp as they watch American Alpha, but it didn’t do any effect as American Alpha picks up the win over Corey Hollis and John Skyler. American Alpha then propose to The Revival to get in the ring with them, but The Revival retreat.

Love that Jason Jordan put his straps down in order to put them back up and then put them back down again, I just love that for some reason and I have no idea why. It seems like we’ll be getting a rematch between American Alpha and The Revival for the NXT Tag Team Championships which is fine by me as their match at NXT Dallas was great. Looking forward to their rematch in the near future.

Good tag team match and can’t wait to see American Alpha Vs. The Revival for the NXT Tag Team Championships again in the near future. Also, NXT, please sign Corey Hollis and John Skyler!

The backstage interview with Shinsuke Nakamura by Cathy Kelley was great. Cathy Kelley asks Shinsuke Nakamura about Alex Riley last week with him saying rage and Shinsuke Nakamura replies with that he is shaking with rage as he leaves.

Shinsuke Nakamura is just awesome. He doesn’t need to speak a lot and when he does speak, it’s short, sweet, and to the point. Looking forward to his match with Alex Riley next. Great backstage interview here.

Shinsuke Nakamura Vs. Alex Riley was a good match. This seems to be Alex Riley’s last match with NXT as he got released from WWE last week. It’s a shame that Alex Riley didn’t get the type of push that he deserves as I thought this guy had a lot of potential to be something great. However, with backstage politics and his attitude, it costed him his job and it’s unfortunate. Hope to see Alex Riley in some other wrestling company in the near future.

What Alex Riley did in this match, it was quite impressive. I think he hold his own against Shinsuke Nakamura here and I was impressed. Even though he’s gone, at least he went up against Shinsuke Nakamura in his last match which must have been a huge honor for him. Good luck to you Alex Riley on what you do next. However, first, change your attitude and that is all.

Shinsuke Nakamura was being himself in this match showcasing why he is one of the best wrestlers in the world today. Can’t wait to see who Shinsuke Nakamura will feud first in NXT which should be great. YeaOh!

Good match and good luck to Alex Riley on what he does next and can’t wait to see who Shinsuke Nakamura will feud with first in NXT.

The backstage segment between Austin Aries, William Regal, and BAM Factor was great. Austin Aries was talking to William Regal backstage about how he didn’t come to NXT just to be another guy in which William Regal replied with he didn’t ask him here for that. Austin Aries wants to prove to William Regal that he’s not just good, he’s great.

BAM Factor then came in and interrupted them as they want a tag team title match. Austin Aries then told BAM Factor that they don’t have the decency to bring Alexa Bliss with them in which Alexa Bliss appears. They continue to argue until William Regal pops in to announce something. He told them that it will be BAM Factor Vs. Austin Aries and a partner of his choosing where BAM Factor told Austin Aries that he has no friends as they leave. Austin Aries then made a phone call as he leaves.

So we’re going to get Austin Aries and a partner of his choosing Vs. BAM Factor. That should be a great tag team match and I wonder who is Austin Aries’ tag team partner will be. I guess we’ll find out soon enough. Great backstage segment here.

Rachael Ellering Vs. Alexa Bliss was a good women’s match. Oh my god! Rachael Ellering just made an appearance on NXT TV! Mark out moment! Rachael Ellering is the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer Paul Ellering and she has a lot of potential to be great in the future. So NXT, please sign her!

Rachael Ellering did well here in this match managing to get some offense on Alexa Bliss, but in the end, Alexa Bliss came out on top.

Alexa Bliss was continuing her vicious streak that she has as of late with her victory over Rachael Ellering. I was surprised that Alexa Bliss started to use the Sparkle Splash (Rounding Moonsault) as her finisher again as I thought she would use the Glitz Flip (Standing Moonsault Knee Drop) as her finisher, but I guess not. I do like the Sparkle Splash, but that finisher is more suited to a babyface and she’s a heel right now so I don’t think it really works. However, I’m not complaining as it’s a good move for Alexa Bliss. Can’t wait to see what Alexa Bliss does next in NXT.

Good women’s match and interested to see what Alexa Bliss does next in NXT. Also, NXT, please sign Rachael Ellering!

The backstage interview with Bayley and Nia Jax by Cathy Kelley was pretty good. Cathy Kelley asks Bayley when she’s going to ask Asuka for a rematch for the NXT Women’s Championship. Bayley says that she’s training and she’s feeling better.

Nia Jax then comes in and interrupts Bayley that when she made one mistake, she got stronger. When Bayley passed out and lost the NXT Women’s Championship, she became weaker. Bayley says that Nia Jax may have dominated her at NXT London, but she won at the end. Nia Jax then tells Bayley that if they face each other again, the outcome will not be the same. Bayley then tells Nia Jax that she could choke her out again.

I love how both Bayley and Nia Jax mentioned their history with each other back at NXT London which is a nice touch. It seems like we may be getting a match between Bayley and Nia Jax in the future. I’ll be looking forward to that since their first match against each other was great. Good backstage interview here.

It was announced that next week, we’ll get Austin Aries and a partner of his choosing Vs. BAM Factor and Bayley Vs. Nia Jax. Those should be good to great matches next week. Looking forward to them.

Finn Balor Vs. Elias Samson was a good match. Elias Samson has been put in a lot of high profile matches as of late which is great for him as I do see him as a top star for NXT in the near future. I mean yes, he has been losing a lot as of late, but he is getting a lot of heel heat which is great as I do see him as a top heel for NXT. Not only that, he was impressive in this match against Finn Balor. Very interested to see where Elias Samson goes next from here.

Finn Balor was being his usual self here expect he was showing a little more aggression this time around which makes sense because he lost the NXT Championship and was pissed off with Elias Samson on what he did to him earlier on the show. Also, like the name of Finn Balor’s finisher with the lifting single underhook DDT, 1916 as it’s a throwback to Irish culture which is nice to see.

After the match, Finn Balor cut a promo on how he knows that he lost to Samoa Joe, but he wants his rematch. He says that he was obsessed with NXT and being NXT Champion. Now, he says he is possessed, like a demon stalking its prey and he wants what belongs to him, the NXT Championship.

This leads to Samoa Joe coming out who objects to what Finn Balor has said. The two became to jaw each other until William Regal comes out. William Regal says that this is a NXT ring and it will not break into chaos. So he makes the announcement that at the next NXT live special on June 8th, it will be Samoa Joe Vs. Finn Balor for the NXT Championship.

Samoa Joe thinks that Finn Balor doesn’t deserve it and says that he’s the champion. This leads to Finn Balor hitting a suicide somersault senton onto Samoa Joe as Finn Balor stands tall over Samoa Joe to end the show.

Wow! So at the NXT live special at June 8th, we’re going to get Samoa Joe Vs. Finn Balor for the NXT Championship, awesome! That should be an excellent match and I’m looking forward to it. The feud between Finn Balor and Samoa Joe has been relatively good for the past few months so it seems like the feud will finally come to an end pretty soon. I’m looking forward to their match on June 8th at the next NXT live special, and this segment right here made me excited for it. It should be excellent.

Good match and good post-match segment as I’m looking forward to see what Elias Samson does next in NXT as well as the feud between Finn Balor and Samoa Joe for the NXT Championship.

Overall, good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we’re going to get Austin Aries and a partner of his choosing Vs. BAM Factor and Bayley Vs. Nia Jax which should be good to great. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
