Lucha Underground on June 7, 2017 was a great show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a recap of what happened between Prince Puma, Catrina, Drago, Kobra Moon, Johnny Mundo, and The Mack earlier in the season of Lucha Underground Season 3. This is a good way to remind people about what happened during that time in case they missed it or forgot about it because since they have been on a long break, it’s good to refresh people’s minds heading into this show so I appreciated that. Well done and well produced.

The backstage segment between Prince Puma, Rey Mysterio, and Vampiro was good. Prince Puma was in the bathroom looking at himself in the mirror until Rey Mysterio came in and told Prince Puma that he’s worried about Vampiro using him for his agenda. Prince Puma then asked Rey Mysterio like him and Konnan as he was being used by people before. Prince Puma then told Rey Mysterio that he isn’t his friend as he leaves.

This led to Vampiro appearing on the mirror as he promised to send Rey Mysterio to hell as Rey Mysterio broke the mirror as Vampiro was nowhere to be seen.

It seems like Vampiro is really getting in the head of Prince Puma that he can’t even think for himself anymore. Will Prince Puma really follow Vampiro? I guess we’ll find out soon enough. Good backstage segment here.

Before the first match began, Dario Cueto came out and said that there are no ties in his temple as the Lucha Underground Championship match will go to sudden death as Dario Cueto makes the match, Falls Count Anywhere! Mark out moment! This is why I love Dario Cueto. He really cares about the fans despite being a villain. Anyway, let’s talk about the match! Ring the bell!

Johnny Mundo Vs. The Mack for the Lucha Underground Championship in a Fall Counts Anywhere match was excellent. Mark out moment! These two men went out there and delivered a brutal match where both men gave everything they have to make sure they walk out as Lucha Underground Champion.

There were several spots in this match where either man could have won and it could have been believable. The moment when The Mack was about to beat Johnny Mundo, Ricky Mandel came in to stop The Mack which led to Johnny Mundo hit a corkscrew dive on The Mack from the crowd! Mark out moment! That was an awesome spot from Johnny Mundo there. After the interference from Ricky Mandel, Sexy Star came in to even the odds to get rid of Ricky Mandel so it’s back to Johnny Mundo and The Mack one on one.

There was another spot in the match where Johnny Mundo tried to get the advantage over The Mack as PJ Black came in under the ring to hit The Mack with a kendo stick. Eventually, The Mack got the better of PJ Black as he got PJ Black on the ring apron as he hit a stunner on PJ Black where he fell through the table that was set up by The Mack earlier. PJ Black got that coming as The Mack tried to overcome the odds.

The ending of the match came when The Mack was about to set up Johnny Mundo through the set of steel chairs on the floor from the ring apron, but Taya came in and saved Johnny Mundo as Johnny Mundo hit a sunset flip powerbomb on The Mack through the steel chairs from the ring apron to the floor for the pin and to retain the Lucha Underground Championship! Mark out moment for Taya and that sunset flip powerbomb through the steel chairs spot! Nice to see Taya back as she was gone from Lucha Underground for a little while after her injury. Plus, that spot with the sunset flip powerbomb through the steel chairs looked nasty. Hope that The Mack was okay after that. Either way, Johnny Mundo is still Lucha Underground Champion and I’m interested to see who will take down Johnny Mundo for the title.

Excellent Falls Count Anywhere match and I’m interested to see what’s next for Johnny Mundo and The Mack in Lucha Underground.

The promo segment with Dario Cueto was great. Dario Cueto was in the ring as he said that Lucha Underground has revolutionized the industry of wrestling including Dario’s Dail of Doom, Ultimate Opportunity, and Battle of the Bulls because he made Lucha Underground unpredictable and violent. He then said that something innovative will happen at Ultima Lucha Tres as he introduced the Cueto Cup! Mark out moment! That actually looks like a great trophy and once again, Dario Cueto with more innovative concepts to make Lucha Underground more interesting.

Melissa Santos came out with the Cueto Cup as she heads to the ring. Dario Cueto then grabbed the Cueto Cup from Melissa Santos and told her to go away as Dario Cueto announced that the Cueto Cup will be a 32 man single elimination tournament where the winner will not only win the Cueto Cup, but also get a Lucha Underground Championship match at Ultima Lucha Tres which will start next week. He then announced that Johnny Mundo will defend the Lucha Underground Championship at the same night of the finals where he would give it to Matanza, but he embarassed his family so he won’t get the title shot. Instead, Rey Mysterio will get the shot at the Cueto Cup Finals.

Dario Cueto is the man. The Cueto Cup is a nice concept and I love tournaments so I expect this one to be fun and great to watch. Johnny Mundo Vs. Rey Mysterio for the Lucha Underground Championship at the Cueto Cup Finals sounds great to me. Can’t wait to see who’s in the tournament.

Great promo segment and I’m looking forward to the first round of the Cueto Cup starting next week.

Super Friends Vs. The Reptile Tribe for the Lucha Underground Trios Championships was a good trios match. With these two trios having issues with each other for a long while now, they finally come to blows in this match.

Super Friends did well in this match as they tried to get revenge on The Reptile Tribe for what they have done to Drago. Aerostar was the MVP for his team in this match as he did a lot of insane spots in this match including some cool springboard moves. Good performance from Super Friends here.

The Reptile Tribe did well in this match as well too as they tried to bring Drago back to The Reptile Tribe. Vibora was the MVP for his team in this match as he used his size and strength to overcome his opponents. His tombstone piledriver on Fenix to the outside looked devastating. Good performances from The Reptile Tribe here.

The ending of the match came when Aerostar was about to make the tag to Drago, but Drago ended up hitting Aerostar with the green mist as Pindar hit a powerbomb on Aerostar. This led to Drago going to The Reptile Tribe’s side and The Reptile Tribe along with Drago did a trio move where Pindar and Vibora hold Aerostar in place as Drago hit a diving splash on Aerostar for the pin and to win the Lucha Underground Trios Championships! Mark out moment! I wanted The Reptile Tribe to be the next Lucha Underground Trios Champions and they did so congratulations to them.

Not only did The Reptile Tribe won the Lucha Underground Trios Championships, Super Friends are no more as Drago has betrayed them and join The Reptile Tribe. Kobra Moon has control over Drago now and it seems like The Reptile Tribe is unstoppable as Kobra Moon put the chain on Drago. I wonder how Kobra Moon convinced Drago to join them. Was it mind control or was it Drago’s own free will? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Good trios match and I’m interested to see what’s next in this Super Friends and The Reptile Tribe feud.

The backstage segment between Johnny Mundo, Ricky Mandel, and Taya was good. Johnny Mundo came out of the shower as he had a talk with Ricky Mandel who told him to get the champagne, but Ricky Mandel told Johnny Mundo to wait for Taya. Taya then came in and told Johnny Mundo that he will have to face Rey Mysterio for the Lucha Underground Championship in the finals of the Cueto Cup. Johnny Mundo looked worried as he told Ricky Mandel to warm up the car so he can go to the dojo to train. Johnny Mundo then told Taya that Rey Mysterio is no joke and that he’ll train harder than ever before. Johnny Mundo then left with no pants as he has no time for pants.

Wow Johnny Mundo, you’re going to a dojo without any pants on? Okay then. However, Johnny Mundo has a right to be worried about Rey Mysterio as he’s a man that can’t be taken lightly. Looking forward to that match when it happens. Good backstage segment here. Also, Johnny Mundo, put some pants on.

Prince Puma Vs. Mil Muertes in a Boyle Heights Street Fight was excellent. Mark out moment! With these two having a lot of history and awesome matches with each other, you expect an excellent match from them and they delivered. Not only that, I like how Prince Puma set up a trap for Mil Muertes as he came out under the ring to attack Mil Muertes. Smart strategy from Prince Puma there.

Just like with the Falls Count Anywhere match, there were several spots in this match where either man could have won and it would have been believable. The moment where Mil Muertes spear Prince Puma through a table was a cool spot. The DDT that Mil Muertes did on Prince Puma on the floor looked devastating.

There was another spot in the match where Prince Puma hit a 450 splash on Mil Muertes from the ring apron to the floor so that was cool to see. However, Mil Muertes got the better of Prince Puma later with the fireman’s carry into a cutter on the floor which looked devastating as well.

There was a spot in the match where Prince Puma hit a somersault corner-to-corner dropkick to Mil Muertes with a trashcan! Mark out moment! Man, I never expect Prince Puma to make the corner-to-corner dropkick with a somersault into it so that was awesome to see. Very innovative there. Excellent performancees by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Prince Puma hit a 630 senton on Mil Muertes, but was about to win the match until Catrina came in and hit Prince Puma with a rock as she gave the rock to Catrina afterwards. This led to Vampiro giving a brick to Prince Puma as Prince Puma hit Mil Muertes with a brick for the pin and win.

It seems like Prince Puma has finally joined the dark side with Vampiro as he ended up using a brick to win the match instead using his own moves and tactics to win. Even though it may not be official yet, Prince Puma is heading into that direction which could help him so I’m interested to see where this will go.

Excellent Boyle Heights Street Fight and I’m intrigued for what’s next for Prince Puma and Mil Muertes in Lucha Underground.

Overall, great show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. So many storylines and feuds here and I love it! Next week, we’re going to have the first round of the Cueto Cup which should be great, looking forward to that. If you haven’t already, please check out Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
