205 Live on June 13, 2017 was a good show. 205 Live is a show where the cruiserweights take center stage as they will risk their bodies to entertain us wrestling fans. Let’s break it down:
We start off the show with a backstage segment with Akira Tozawa and Titus O’Neil and it was good. Akira Tozawa was warming up backstage until Titus O’Neil came in and told him that he’s already the MVP on Monday Night Raw without being on the Titus Brand. He then informed Akira Tozawa that he got him to the main event against TJP later on the show. Titus O’Neil then told Akira Tozawa that Neville is kind of afraid of him as he could be the next Kobe Byrant or LeBron James of Japan. Akira Tozawa then thanked Titus O’Neil and asked him about Apollo Crews, but Titus O’Neil told him that once he joins the Titus Brand, it will be raining yen as he left with Akira Tozawa shaking his head.
It seems like Akira Tozawa is still uncertain on whether or not he should join the Titus Brand or not. Regardless, he’s possibly getting a future shot at the WWE Cruiserweight Championship so he can’t complain about that. Looking forward to his match against TJP later on the show. Good backstage segment here.
Before I continue talking about the show, the broadcast team for this show contains Vic Joseph and Corey Graves. Vic Joseph has work in NXT for quite a while now as a backstage interviewer so now he’s at the commentary booth. He didn’t do bad on his first night commentating, but I still prefer the duo of Tom Phillips and Corey Graves. Anyway, let’s get back to the show.
Cedric Alexander Vs. Ariya Daivari was a good match. Before the match, we got a recap of what happened on Monday Night Raw as Cedric Alexander defeated Noam Dar in quick fashion as Noam Dar and Alicia Fox aren’t finished with Cedric Alexander yet. This is good as it shows what happened on Monday Night Raw for those who have missed it or forgot about it. Anyway, let’s continue on to the next segment.
Ariya Daivari did well in this match as he tried to make a name for himself in the WWE Cruiserweight division. The way he tripped Cedric Alexander on the ropes as he was going for a springboard clothesline was well planned on Ariya Daivari’s part as he made Cedric Alexander got his head hit first on the top turnbuckle which looked nasty. Cedric Alexander did well in this match too as he tried to climb up the ladder in the WWE Cruiserweight Championship picture. His springboard clothesline on Ariya Daivari was beautifully executed. Good performances from both men here.
The ending of the match came when Noam Dar came out with his phone that Alicia Fox was on as they tried to distract Cedric Alexander from winning where Ariya Daivari tried to take advantage, but Cedric Alexander ended taking out Noam Dar at ringside and then hit the Lumbar Check (Belly-to-back suplex into a double knee backbreaker) on Ariya Daivari for the pin and win. Even though Cedric Alexander may be done with Noam Dar and Alicia Fox, Noam Dar and Alicia Fox has not as after the match, he turned off Noam Dar’s phone that had Alicia Fox on as he told Noam Dar and Alicia Fox that he moved on while Noam Dar looked pissed. I expect this feud to be far from over here and I’m interested to see where it goes next.
Good match and I’m interested to see what’s next in this Cedric Alexander and Noam Dar feud.
The promo segment between Austin Aries, Tony Nese, and Gentleman Jack Gallagher was good. While Austin Aries was making his way to the ring, we got a recap of what happened at Extreme Rules where Austin Aries tapped out to Neville and then Austin Aries later tweeted that he has to think about his career after his loss at Extreme Rules. This is good as it shows what Austin Aries is thinking at the moment and what he’s planning to say so let’s hear what he has to say.
Austin Aries talked about how it’s great to be back in New Orleans, Louisiana, and inside a WWE ring. However, he wished things were different as he talked about how he could have been WWE Cruiserweight Champion as of right now, but isn’t. However, he’s okay with that because sometimes in life, you don’t always win and he just couldn’t do it at Extreme Rules. He then said that he will pick himself back up and keep going, but a lot of questions have been asked about him lately in terms of his injuries and as a result, he went to the doctors and they informed him that he won’t be able to wrestle.
As Austin Aries was about to continue, Tony Nese interrupted him and told him that Austin Aries should just go and be a part of the crowd as he takes over. Tony Nese then told Austin Aries that he should quietly fade into the past to save his dignity as the future is him. Austin Aries then told Tony Nese that the last time they were in the ring together, he made Tony Nese tap out and then he asked Tony Nese on when did he grow a set. Tony Nese then told Austin Aries that he makes a lot of jokes, but his future doesn’t have time for jokes and Austin Aries as he took off his vest and stared at Austin Aries.
As Tony Nese was about to attack Austin Aries, Gentleman Jack Gallagher came in and told Tony Nese that New Orleans is known for having fun and there are always time for jokes. He then told Tony Nese that if he considered himself the future, then he’s the biggest joke of all because he’s no Austin Aries as he started poking Tony Nese with William III. However, Tony Nese grabbed William III and threw him away as he was about to attack Gentleman Jack Gallagher, but Gentleman Jack Gallagher ducked his attack and attacked him with William III as Tony Nese retreated. Gentleman Jack Gallagher and Austin Aries celebrated in the ring as Tony Nese looked on from the entrance ramp.
It seems like we’re going to get a feud between Gentleman Jack Gallagher and Tony Nese which I’m fine with as it gives both men something to do and it should be a good feud. Not only that, I wish a speedy recovery for Austin Aries.
Good promo segment as I’m intrigued on what’s next for Gentleman Jack Gallagher and Tony Nese and get well soon Austin Aries.
The backstage segment between Rich Swann and TJP was good. TJP was walking backstage until he bumped into Rich Swann as Rich Swann told him that he took Neville to the limit last week as he took him out on Monday Night Raw as they’re both looking for another opportunity as TJP told Rich Swann that’s good for him. Rich Swann then told TJP that he was starting to believe him as well as the WWE Universe. Rich Swann then told TJP that he has changed since losing the WWE Cruiserweight Championship and if he wants to be TJP, it’s fine with him, but TJ Perkins would do the right thing as TJP looked at Rich Swann for a moment before he left.
It seems like Rich Swann is trying to make TJP back into TJ Perkins, but I don’t know think TJP will listen to what Rich Swann has to say to him. It will be interesting to see how TJP will respond to what Rich Swann has told him. Good backstage segment here.
We then get a vignette of Mustafa Ali followed by a promo from Drew Gulak which was good. Mustafa Ali talked about how high-flying means a lot to him as it’s a way for him to grab the attention of the WWE Universe.
As he was about to continue talking, the vignette was cut off from a promo from Drew Gulak as he asked who is Mustafa Ali and what is high-flying. Drew Gulak said that Mustafa Ali is not a high-flyer, but a man that is taking unnecessary risks where he should be wrestling on the ground. He then said that Mustafa Ali is all about himself and people deserve better than Mustafa Ali and that’s why he’s going to make a better 205 Live for the WWE Universe.
It seems like Drew Gulak won’t stop making Mustafa Ali do his high-flying until he makes him. I’m looking forward to seeing these two clash again in the near future. Good vignette here as well as a good promo from Drew Gulak.
We then get an announcement that next week, it will be Mustafa Ali Vs. Drew Gulak and Gentleman Jack Gallagher Vs. Tony Nese. Those matches should be good next week as it’s building their feuds so that’s nice to see. Looking forward to them.
Akira Tozawa Vs. TJP was an excellent match. Mark out moment! Before the match, we got a recap on what happened three weeks ago as Akira Tozawa beat The Brian Kendrick in a Street Fight. This is good as it shows what happened three weeks ago with Akira Tozawa to see how he progressed after his feud with The Brian Kendrick. Not only that, we saw Titus O’Neil backstage watching the match as he’s observing on Akira Tozawa’s performance which continues the storyline between Akira Tozawa and Titus O’Neil which is nice to see. Anyway, let’s get back to the match itself.
TJP did excellent in this match as he tried to climb up the ladder once again to get back into the WWE Cruiserweight Championship picture. The way he countered Akira Tozawa’s diving crossbody into a dropkick was well executed. His double underhook chickenwing into a double knee gutbuster on Akira Tozawa looked devastating. His jumping spin kick on Akira Tozawa was well executed as well. Excellent performance from TJP here.
Akira Tozawa did excellent in this match as well as he’s looking to become the next #1 Contender for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. His suicide dive on TJP to the outside was done beautifully and his snap belly-to-back suplex on to TJP looked devastating. Excellent performance from Akira Tozawa here.
The ending of the match came when Akira Tozawa hit a diving senton on TJP for the pin and win. A great win for Akira Tozawa as he’s looking to become the next #1 Contender for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah!
Excellent match as I’m interested to see what’s next for Akira Tozawa and TJP in the WWE Cruiserweight division.
The backstage segment between Titus O’Neil and Neville was good. Titus O’Neil was celebrating backstage for Akira Tozawa’s win until Neville showed up as he stared at the TV looking with disgust. Titus O’Neil then told Neville that he’s glad he’s here as he told Akira Tozawa about possibly being the next #1 Contender for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. Titus O’Neil was singing until Neville stopped him and told him that his client Akira Tozawa is nowhere near his level as he’s on the Neville level. Titus O’Neil then told Neville that Akira Tozawa is the future and he proved that in his match against TJP where he will be the future WWE Cruiserweight Champion as he left with Neville looking furious.
It seems like we’re getting our next feud for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship which will be Neville Vs. Akira Tozawa which should be great. Can’t wait to see these two lock up when they finally meet face-to-face. Good backstage segment here to end the show.
Overall, good show for the twenty ninth episode of 205 Live. It’s great to see the cruiserweights with more focus and attention here and it’s only going to get better from here. Looking forward to it.
