Lucha Underground 6/14/17 Review: Best Friends into Foes

on

Lucha Underground on June 14, 2017 was a good show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a recap of what happened between Dario Cueto, Johnny Mundo, Kobra Moon, Drago, Black Lotus, and Pentagon Dark earlier in the season of Lucha Underground Season 3. This is a good way to remind people about what happened during that time in case they missed it or forgot about it because since they have been on a long break, it’s good to refresh people’s minds heading into this show so I appreciated that. Well done and well produced.

The backstage segment between Dario Cueto and Pentagon Dark was good. Dario Cueto was setting up matches for the Cueto Cup in his office until Pentagon Dark came in! Mark out moment! We haven’t seen Pentagon Dark ever since Black Lotus broke his arm so it’s great to see him back. Pentagon Dark told Dario Cueto that he wants Black Lotus, but Dario Cueto told Pentagon Dark that Black Lotus has went to Hong Kong and hasn’t return since. Pentagon Dark then threatened to break Dario Cueto’s arm, but Dario Cueto prevented him from doing so as he put him in the Cueto Cup. Pentagon Dark then told Dario Cueto that if he doesn’t win the Lucha Underground Championship at Ultima Lucha Tres, he’s going to leave broken bones behind as he left.

Pentagon Dark wants his Lucha Underground Championship and he’ll do whatever it takes to do it which even includes breaking Dario Cueto’s arm. I could see Pentagon Dark being the winner of the Cueto Cup, but we’ll have to wait and see. Good backstage segment here.

The Mack Vs. Mala Suerte in the first round of the Cueto Cup was a great match. Both of these men went out there and delivered a great match as they want to move on to the next round of the Cueto Cup.

Mala Suerte did great in this match as he tried to make a name for himself in Lucha Underground. His senton on The Mack was well executed. The Mack did great in this match too as he wants another shot at the Lucha Underground Championship. His modified Michinoku Driver on Mala Suerte looked devastating. Great performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when The Mack hit a stunner on Mala Suerte for the pin and win. The Mack moves on to the round of sixteen.

Great match and The Mack moves on to the round of sixteen in the Cueto Cup.

The backstage segment between Cage and Dario Cueto was good. Cage was working out backstage with his gauntlet until Dario Cueto showed up and told him to thank Councilman Delgado for the gauntlet. Cage said he doesn’t care as Dario Cueto told Cage that he should at least meet with him as he have him Councilman Delgado’s address as he left.

I’m pretty sure that Cage has no interest with Councilman Delgado as he’s usually about himself, but I’m curious on what Cage will do here. I guess we’ll find out soon enough. Good backstage segment here.

Argenis Vs. Pentagon Dark in the first round of the Cueto Cup was a great match. Pentagon Dark has made his Lucha Underground in-ring return! Mark out moment! Missed Pentagon Dark in the ring so let’s talk about the match itself.

Argenis did great in this match as he tried to make a statement for himself in Lucha Underground. His Asai Moonsault to the outside on Pentagon Dark was beautifully done. Pentagon Dark did great in this match as well as he wants to become Lucha Underground Champion. His spinning sitout sleeper slam on Argenis was well executed. Great performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Pentagon Dark hit a package piledriver on Argenis for the pin and win. After the match, Pentagon Dark broke Argenis’ arm once again. Pentagon Dark is back and is looking to break people’s arms. I expect him to go far in the Cueto Cup as he moves on to the round of sixteen.

Great match and Pentagon Dark moves on to the round of sixteen in the Cueto Cup.

Texano Vs. Famous B in the first round of the Cueto Cup was a good squash match. Melissa Santos was doing the ring announcing for Famous B, but Famous B told Melissa Santos that he’s from Texas as Melissa Santos left the ring afterwards. He then went to Texano and told him that he wants to represent Texano and not fight him as laid on the floor for Texano to pin him.

Texano was about to pin Famous B for the three count, but stopped at two as hit Famous B with a sitout powerbomb for the pin and win. An effective for Texano as he moves on to the round of sixteen where he will face The Mack which should be great as Beautiful Brenda slapped Texano’s butt after the match as he enjoyed it while leaving. I expect this storyline to not be over yet because of what happened here.

Good squash match and Texano moves on to the round of sixteen in the Cueto Cup.

We then get a video package of Johnny Mundo Vs. Rey Mysterio for the Lucha Underground Championship at the Cueto Cup Finals. This is good as they’re making the match a big deal and I can’t wait to see these two collide at the Cueto Cup Finals. It should be excellent. Well produced video package here.

Aerostar Vs. Drago in the first round of the Cueto Cup was a great match. With these two having history and with Drago betraying Super Friends last week, Aerostar is trying to get Drago back to his senses.

Aerostar did great in this match as well as he tried to get Drago back into his senses. His modified Indian deathlock on Drago was cool to see and the way he did Drago’s move with the flying headscissors transitioned into a rolling crucifix hold on Drago was cool to see as well as it shows how much they know each other which is nice. Drago did great in this match showcasing his new character in the ring ever since joining The Reptile Tribe. His front-flip blockbuster on Aerostar was very innovative and beautifully done. Great performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Drago countered Aerostar’s flying headscissors transitioned into a rolling crucifix hold into his own flying headscissors transitioned into a rolling crucifix hold for the pin and win. A nice counter from Drago there as he got a win under the alliance of The Reptile Tribe as he moves on to the round of sixteen where he will face Pentagon Dark which should be great.

After the match, Kobra Moon ordered Drago to attack Aerostar in which he did as he kicked him out of the ring as Drago and Kobra Moon stood tall in the ring. It seems like Drago is on the side of The Reptile Tribe

Great match as Drago moves on to the round of sixteen in the Cueto Cup.

The video segment between Cage and Councilman Delgado was great. Cage was walking outside in the streets as he went to City Hall to meet up with Councilman Delgado. Councilman Delgado told Cage that the gauntlet is working and that their work can begin. Cage told Councilman Delgado that he doesn’t work for him as he choked him and slammed him to the wall. Councilman Delgado then told Cage that he’s thinking like a man which led to Cage punching Councilman Delgado in the face as it led to Councilman Delgado’s head to explode as he later became dead. Cage then said he’s not a man, but a machine as he walked out by stepping on Councilman Delgado’s eye in the process.

Man, Cage just killed a man with his gauntlet. People shouldn’t mess with Cage now if they don’t want to be killed. I expect Cage to get some kind of huge push in Lucha Underground down the line after what he did here. Also, rest in peace Councilman Delgado. He’s not a man, he’s a machine!

Great video segment and I’m interested to see what’s next for Cage in Lucha Underground.

Overall, good show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. So many storylines and feuds here and I love it! Next week, the Cueto Cup continues which should be great, looking forward to that. If you haven’t already, please check out Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
