NXT 6/14/17 Review: Chaos Commence Between Empress and The Deranged One

on

NXT on June 14, 2017 was a good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package to hype up Asuka Vs. Ruby Riot Vs. Nikki Cross for the NXT Women’s Championship in a Triple Threat Elimination match later on the show. This is good as it’s hyping up the NXT Women’s Championship match later on the show which should be great. Well produced video package here.

Drew McIntyre Vs. Rob Ryzin was a good match. Rob Ryzin made another appearance on NXT! Mark out moment! It’s been a while since we last saw Rob Ryzin in NXT so it’s cool to see him back again for one night.

Rob Ryzin got some offense in this match surprisingly as he hit a nice superkick on Drew McIntyre during the match, but in the end, Drew McIntyre got the better of Rob Ryzin as he hit him with the running single leg dropkick for the pin and win. Another win for Drew McIntyre as I expect him to be in the NXT Championship picture in the near future.

Good match as I’m interested to see what’s next for Drew McIntyre in NXT and I would love to see Rob Ryzin get signed in the company as well.

We then get a recap of what happened two weeks ago between Ember Moon and The Iconic Duo as Ember Moon was cleared to wrestle again as The Iconic Duo weren’t very happy about that as Ember Moon will face Peyton Royce next week. This is good as it’s hyping up the match next week as why it’s occurring. The match between those show should be good.

We then get a vignette of Aleister Black and it was good. Nice to see NXT making a big deal out of Aleister Black as always as he’s going to be a big star in NXT in the near future. Fade to Black!

Anthony Dominguez & Wilmer Freyday Vs. Authors of Pain was a good tag team squash match. This was a very interesting squash match as Paul Ellering was talking to Rezar at ringside while Akam was handling two men at the same time on his own.

The ending of the match came when Akam hit a powerbomb on Anthony Dominguez for the pin and win. An impressive win for Authors of Pain as they managed to beat a tag team using one guy.

After the match, Paul Ellering instructed Rezar to throw Wilmer Freyday back into the ring as Authors of Pain hit powerbombs on Anthony Dominguez and Wilmer Freyday.

Paul Ellering then got on the mic and said that Heavy Machinery is as foolish as they are large as Authors of Pain have been undefeated for a whole year. Paul Ellering then talked about how Authors of Pain defeated American Alpha, TM-61, The Revival, and even #DIY. Paul Ellering then said they want to write the first chapter in their Book of Dominance and Heavy Machinery won’t even make a footnote.

Heavy Machinery then came out as they get into the faces of Authors of Pain as Paul Ellering hold Authors of Pain back from engaging as they retreat.

It seems like Authors of Pain want to face Heavy Machinery next for the NXT Tag Team Championships which should be an interesting tag team match when it happens. I can’t wait to see these two teams collide when it happens.

Good tag team squash match as I’m interested to see what happens next in this Authors of Pain and Heavy Machinery feud in NXT.

We then get a recap of what happened last week when Roderick Strong wants a title match against Bobby Roode, but Bobby Roode told Roderick Strong to earn his title match first. This is good as it showed what happened last week in case people missed or forgot about it. Not only that, it will probably help build up the feud between Bobby Roode and Roderick Strong for the NXT Championship down the road.

We then get a vignette of Sonya Deville as we see her training as she said that she was born to fight. She then said that put your hair up and square up as she will be making her in-ring return next week.

Nice to see Sonya Deville getting a vignette here as it seems like NXT is high on her and she does have potential if given more training. Let’s see how well she does in her in-ring return next week. Well produced vignette here.

Raul Mendoza Vs. The Velveteen Dream was a good match. Raul Mendoza made an appearance on NXT! Mark out moment! Raul Mendoza has competed in the CWC last year and he was impressive there so seeing him here was cool. Hope he gets signed as he’s a pretty athlete in the ring.

Even though Raul Mendoza did get some offense in this match with an impressive looking dropkick on The Velveteen Dream, The Velveteen Dream got the better of Raul Mendoza with a diving elbow drop for the pin and win. Another win for The Velveteen Dream as he’s looking to rise up the ranks in NXT.

Good match as I’m intrigued on what NXT will do with The Velveteen Dream and NXT, please sign Raul Mendoza!

We then get a recap of what happened last week when Hideo Itami would beat up Oney Lorcan until Kassius Ohno made the save as they ended up shoving each other. This is good as it showed what happened last week and it ties into the next segment which I will talk about next.

The backstage interview with Kassius Ohno by Kayla Braxton was good. Kayla Braxton asked Kassius Ohno on where he stands with his friendship with Hideo Itami as he replied by saying that he’s not sure and he shouldn’t have shoved him last week as it was uncalled for. He knows that Hideo Itami is frustrated and not a bad guy. He then said that wants to lead by example and he’s getting a match to prove himself thanks to William Regal as he left.

After what we see here, I doubt this would be the end of the storyline/feud between Kassius Ohno and Hideo Itami as it’s probably getting started. Can’t wait for these two to clash again when they face each other again. Good backstage interview here.

We then get an announcement that next week, it will be Aleister Black Vs. Kassius Ohno in NXT. That should be an awesome match and I’m looking forward to it.

We then get a vignette of Ember Moon as she will make her in-ring return next week against Peyton Royce. This is good as it’s hyping up the match between Ember Moon Vs. Peyton Royce next week and it’s making Ember Moon’s in-ring return a big deal. Looking forward to that match next week, should be good.

Asuka Vs. Ruby Riot Vs. Nikki Cross in a Triple Threat Elimination match for the NXT Women’s Championship was great. I will talk about this match into parts so let’s get to it!

The match when all three women were in the same ring was great as everyone did their part and didn’t look weak either in the process. The interaction between Asuka and Ruby Riot was fun to watch as I would like to see an one-on-one match between the two in the future.

The first elimination came when Nikki Cross hit a swinging fisherman’s neckbreaker on Ruby Riot to eliminate her from the match. Even though Ruby Riot was the first person eliminated in this match, she looked great in defeat so she has nothing to be ashamed and it made Nikki Cross look strong in the process.

Asuka Vs. Nikki Cross was great as I have been wanting to see these two in an one-on-one match against each other and they did great for themselves here. The bridging German suplex from Asuka to Nikki Cross was well executed. The way that Nikki Cross tried to do everything to take down Asuka by raking her eyes and so forth really shows her character so I appreciated that.

However, we didn’t get a decisive conclusion to the match as Asuka and Nikki Cross ended up brawling backstage which led to a no contest. A shame that it had to end that way, but if they’re building up to a big match between the two down the road, this finish was acceptable.

What happened post-match was when things started to get interesting as Asuka and Nikki Cross continued to brawl backstage as Nikki Cross threw Asuka into a garage door as referees pleaded for the women to stop fighting. Asuka then slammed Nikki Cross head-first into the garage door and repeatedly slammed her head against the metal.

They then ended up walking through a door as they began to brawl in the makeup area. Nikki Cross dunked Asuka’s head into a cooler of ice cubes and water. Nikki Cross then pulled at Asuka’s nose until she dragged Asuka back into the arena.

Nikki Cross then slammed Asuka’s head head-first against the announce table, Asuka managed to fight back against her. Asuka and Nikiki Cross then fought at the top of the tech area of the stage as referees continue to beg them to stop, but aren’t getting in their way. Eventually, Nikki Cross then ended up hitting Asuka with a running crossbody on Asuka which led them to fall down from the stage to the floor through tables! Mark out moment! Wow, that was awesome to see as I didn’t expect these women to go all out in this brawl they had. I can definitely see these two in a future one-on-one match down the line and hopefully it will be soon.

Great triple threat elimination match and excellent post-match brawl as I can’t wait to see Asuka and Nikki Cross in an one-on-one match down the road.

Overall, good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we are going to have Ember Moon Vs. Peyton Royce, the in-ring return of Sonya Deville, and Aleister Black Vs. Kassius Ohno which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
