NXT on June 21, 2017 was a good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:
We start off the show with a video package to hype up Aleister Black Vs. Kassius Ohno later on the show. This is good as it’s hyping up the main event later on the show which should be great. Well produced video package here.
Ember Moon Vs. Peyton Royce was a great women’s match. After the interaction they had with each other two weeks ago, it led to this match and it was Ember Moon’s return match since her arm injury.
Peyton Royce did great in this match as she tried to make sure that Ember Moon gets a loss with her return from injury. Her spinning heel kick and her Gory’s neckbreaker on Ember Moon looked devastating. Ember Moon did great in this match as well as she tried to get a win on her first night back from injury. Her diving crossbody on Billie Kay to the outside to make sure she doesn’t interfere in the match was done beautifully. Great performances by both women here.
The ending of the match came when Ember Moon hit a diving corkscrew stunner on Peyton Royce for the pin and win. A good win for Ember Moon since her return from injury as I expect her to become a potential #1 Contender for the NXT Women’s Championship in the near future.
Great match and I’m interested to see what’s next for Ember Moon and Peyton Royce in NXT.
The backstage segment between Hideo Itami and Kassius Ohno was good. Hideo Itami apologized to Kassius Ohno for everything he has done to him for the past month as Kassius Ohno appreciated Hideo Itami telling him that. Kassius Ohno then told Hideo Itami that he’s angry and frustrated too as he wants to do more and he’s going to do it starting with Aleister Black.
It seems like Kassius Ohno and Hideo Itami are still friends for now, but I question how long this will keep up before they start to push each other’s buttons again. It’s only a matter of time before these two start to go at it again and hopefully, it will be in a match. Good backstage segment here.
Ealy Brothers Vs. SAnitY was a good tag team match. Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe were representing SAnitY in this match as Killian Dain was nowhere to be seen at ringside for this match.
Even though Ealy Brothers got a bit of offense in this match and was about to put SAnitY away with one of their tag team moves, SAnitY got the better of them as they hit a sidewalk slam/springboard neckbreaker combination on Uriel Ealy for the pin and win. A nice tag team finisher from SAnitY there as it seems like they’re trying to make a name for themselves in the tag team division of NXT. I still prefer the tag team of Alexander Wolfe and Sawyer Fulton, but Alexander Wolfe and Eric Young did well for themselves here.
Good tag team match and I’m intrigued on what’s next for Ealy Brothers and SAnitY in NXT.
We then get a recap of what happened last week when Asuka and Nikki Cross brawled with each other after the Triple Threat Elimination match for the NXT Women’s Championship as Nikki Cross hit a running crossbody on Asuka where both women fell through a table as it will be Asuka Vs. Nikki Cross for the NXT Women’s Championship in a Last Woman Standing match next week. This is good as it shows what happened last week and it’s building up their match next week which should be great. Can’t wait for those two to collide next week.
We then get a vignette of Sonya Deville as she makes her in-ring return next. Nice to see NXT building up Sonya Deville here as she could be a potential star in the NXT women’s division. Let’s see how she does in her match next.
Rachel Evers Vs. Sonya Deville was a good women’s match. Rachel Evers made another appearance on NXT! Mark out moment! Great to see her again as I have a feeling she may be in this year’s Mae Young Classic, but only time will tell. Not only that, Sonya Deville has made her in-ring return to NXT! Mark out moment! Still loving her theme as it sounds epic and makes her feel like a b*d*ss.
Even though Rachel Evers did get a bit of offense in this match, it wasn’t enough to take down Sonya Deville as she locked a double wristlock on Rachel Evers to made her submit for the win. A good win for Sonya Deville and she has improved the last time I saw her so she’s making good progress. With more training, I could see her being a legit threat to the NXT women’s division down the line.
Good women’s match as I’m interested to see the development of Sonya Deville in NXT.
The backstage segment between Bobby Roode and Roderick Strong earlier in the show was great. Bobby Roode was doing a photo shoot backstage as Roderick Strong came in with his family. Bobby Roode began to make fun of them as Roderick Strong’s wife and baby left so Roderick Strong can attack Bobby Roode. Roderick Strong and Bobby Roode began to brawl until security broke them up as Bobby Roode yelled at Roderick Strong that he can have a title match anytime. It was then announced that in two weeks, it will be Bobby Roode Vs. Roderick Strong for the NXT Championship.
I’m really liking how the feud is heating up between these two as they’re making the feud more personal which I like to see. However, I questioned why they’re making the match on free TV instead of NXT Brooklyn III as this match could have been a big match for that show. Unless they’re saving it for something else, I personally think this match should have been saved until NXT Brooklyn III. However, that’s just me. It should be great regardless.
Great backstage segment as the match between Bobby Roode and Roderick Strong for the NXT Championship in two weeks should be great.
We then get an announcement that next week, it will be Asuka Vs. Nikki Cross for the NXT Women’s Championship in a Last Woman Standing match. Hyping up the NXT Women’s Championship match next week which should be great as I expect these two to kill each other next week. Looking forward to it.
Aleister Black Vs. Kassius Ohno was an excellent match. Mark out moment! Both of these men went out and delivered a hard hitting match where either man could have walked out as the victor.
Kassius Ohno did excellent in this match as he tried to prove himself. His big boot to Aleister Black looked devastating. His discus bicycle kick on Aleister Black looked devastating as well as it almost took him out.
Aleister Black did excellent in this match as well as he’s trying to make a name for himself in NXT. His springboard moonsault on Kassius Ohno was beautifully executed. His roundhouse kick on Kassius Ohno looked devastating as it knocked out Kassius Ohno for a moment there.
There were several points in the match where I thought it could have gone either way as the last few minutes of the match, both men gave everything they have. The part where Kassius Ohno hit Aleister Black with an elbow where Aleister Black fought back with a jumping high knee as Kassius Ohno replied back with a release rolling suplex was an awesome sequence that was hard hitting which I love. Excellent performances by both men here.
The ending of the match came when Kassius Ohno was about to hit Aleister Black with the discus elbow smash, but Aleister Black hit the Black Mass (Spin kick) on Kassius Ohno for the pin and win. An excellent win for Aleister Black here as he proved that he can hang with the best in NXT and despite Kassius Ohno losing here, he looked excellent in defeat so he had nothing to be ashamed. Props to both men here for delivering an awesome match.
Excellent match and I’m interested to see what’s next for Aleister Black and Kassius Ohno in NXT.
Overall, good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we are going to have Asuka Vs. Nikki Cross for the NXT Women’s Championship in a Last Woman Standing match and Bobby Roode Vs. Roderick Strong for the NXT Championship in two weeks which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
