Lucha Underground on June 28, 2017 was a good show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a recap of what happened between Killshot, Dante Fox, Dario Cueto, Jeremiah Crane, and Catrina earlier in the season of Lucha Underground Season 3. This is a good way to remind people about what happened during that time in case they missed it or forgot about it because since they have been on a long break, it’s good to refresh people’s minds heading into this show so I appreciated that. Well done and well produced.

The video segment between Mil Muertes, Catrina, and Jeremiah Crane was good. Mil Muertes was meditating in his lair as Catrina came in and told him that it’s his time to fight and get back the Lucha Underground Championship. Mil Muertes then told Catrina that he will destroy everyone in his path for her as they began to kiss each other. Catrina then told Mil Muertes to win the Cueto Cup as they left the liar while Jeremiah Crane was watching them from afar.

It seems like Jeremiah Crane really wants Catrina by his side and he might do anything in his case to do so. I won’t be surprised if Jeremiah Crane and Mil Muertes go face-to-face in the Cueto Cup. Good video segment here.

Veneno Vs. Mil Muertes in the first round of the Cueto Cup was a good squash match. Unlike the matches we have seen last week with Vinnie Massaro Vs. Cage and Mascarita Sagrada Vs. Pindar, this match was a complete squash match where Mil Muertes completely destroyed Veneno here.

With no offense from Veneno at all, Mil Muertes hit a reverse STO on Veneno for the pin and win. A great way to make Mil Muertes still look like a beast without hurting him. As a result, he moves on to the round of sixteen.

Good squash match and Mil Muertes moves on to the round of sixteen in the Cueto Cup.

Paul London Vs. Vibora in the first round of the Cueto Cup was a good match. Both of these men were pretty even in this match as Paul London tried to overcome the obstacle that was Vibora.

Paul London’s dropkicks and superkicks to Vibora were well executed here as he managed to get some offense. The way Vibora just threw Paul London across the ring with ease shows that he’s not a man to mess with.

The ending of the match came when Saltador and Mala Suerte were holding Vibora’s legs under the ring which led to Vibora being counted out as Paul London wins the match and moves on to the round of sixteen where he will face Mil Muertes. Good luck with that Paul London. However, a clever way for The Rabbit Tribe to win.

Good match and Paul London moves on to the round of sixteen of the Cueto Cup.

Taya Vs. Joey Ryan in the first round of the Cueto Cup was a good match. Another intergender match where both competitiors did what they need to do in this match.

Joey Ryan hit a vicious superkick on Taya that almost knocked her out. Ouch. Taya hit a nice double foot stomp on Joey Ryan and her slaps and chops to Joey Ryan sounded painful as heck. Ouch. Good performances by both competitors here.

The ending of the match came when Taya hit a Northern Lights Suplex followed by a double foot stomp on Joey Ryan for the pin and win. A good win for Taya as she moves on to the round of sixteen.

Good match and Taya moves on to the round of sixteen.

The backstage segment between Mil Muertes and Jeremiah Crane was great. Mil Muertes was in his pump suit as he was leaving the locker room where Jeremiah Crane came in and attacked Mil Muertes with a chair. Jeremiah Crane then hit Mil Muertes multiple times with a chair as Mil Muertes was knocked down as Jeremiah Crane told Mil Muertes that Catrina is his as he set a chair on Mil Muertes’ neck and grabbed another chair to hit the other chair as it knocked out Mil Muertes.

Man, Jeremiah Crane just became a murderer! I know that he loves Catrina, but dude, you just killed a man, you’re a murderer. I’m just kidding. I doubt that Mil Muertes is dead as he went through much more lethal stuff than this. I expect this to make Mil Muertes extremely furious once he recovers from this as he will probably destroy Jeremiah Crane in the process, but we’ll see. Great backstage segment here.

We then get another video package to hype up Johnny Mundo Vs. Rey Mysterio for the Lucha Underground Championship at the Cueto Cup Finals which was great as they added comments and insights from Chavo Guerrero, Cage, Prince Puma, and Matt Striker. I really like how Lucha Underground is making this match a big deal and it should be a big deal as it’s two of the best stars that Lucha Underground has at the moment and I’m pretty sure they’ll deliver an excellent match when it happens. I can’t wait when it happens.

Jeremiah Crane Vs. Killshot in the first round of the Cueto Cup was an excellent match. Mark out moment! With these two knowing each other very well outside of Lucha Underground with their history in CZW, I expected an amazing match between these two and they did not fail to disappoint me as they delivered an awesome match where either man could have won.

Killshot did excellent in this match as he tried to make it to round of sixteen in the Cueto Cup. His suicide dive and his reverse somersault dive on Jeremiah Crane were executed beautifully. His rolling thunder into a cutter on Jeremiah Crane was executed perfectly. His spike DDT on Jeremiah Crane looked devastating.

Jeremiah Crane did excellent in this match as well as he tried to make Catrina his love. His bottom rope suicide dives on Killshot were executed beautifully. His running cannonball to Killshot through a bunch of chairs at ringside was awesome to watch! Mark out moment! It looked amazing and it looked painful too. That was awesome.

There was a certain spot in the match where I thought the match was over was when Killshot hit Jeremiah Crane with Death Valley Driver on the ring apron followed by a diving double foot stomp on Jeremiah Crane, but Jeremiah Crane managed to kick out from both of those moves. Incredible. Excellent performances from both men here.

The ending of the match came when Killshot was about to hit a half and half suplex on Jeremiah Crane, but Dante Fox interrupted him from above by telling him that they aren’t finished as Jeremiah Crane took advantage of the distraction and hit a double underhook piledriver on Killshot for the pin and win. A great win for Jeremiah Crane as he moves on to the round of sixteen as he will face Taya which should be an interesting match. Not only that, this continues the feud between Killshot and Dante Fox which really intrigues me so I can’t wait to see more of that feud.

After the match, Catrina came out and stood on top of the stairs with her magical stone as she stared at him with Jeremiah Crane blowing a kiss to Catrina.

It seems like Jeremiah Crane is going to try to make his move on Catrina before Mil Muertes recovers. I don’t know if he will be successful, but he can try.

Excellent match and Jeremiah Crane moves on to the round of sixteen in the Cueto Cup.

The backstage segment between Dario Cueto and Son of Madness was good. Dario Cueto was talking to himself about how thrilled he is with the Cueto Cup so far as he went over the matches for next week’s Cueto Cup which includes Prince Puma Vs. Ricky Mandel, Sexy Star Vs. PJ Black, and Dragon Azteca Jr. Vs. Dante Fox in his office. However, he needed one more match. He talked to a man that looked like Son of Havoc as he told his name is Son of Madness. Dario Cueto then told Son of Madness that he will face Son of Havoc next week in the Cueto Cup. He then asked where is he from as Son of Madness is from Open Road as Dario Cueto made the match official where Son of Madness smiled.

Wait a minute…, is Son of Madness, Son of Havoc’s brother?! He’s from the Open Road just like Son of Havoc and he dressed like him too. Are they brothers? Best friends? Who is Son of Madness? I guess we’ll find out more about him next week.

However, the man behind the Son of Madness mask is none other than Johnny Goodtime! Mark out moment! For those of you who don’t know, Johnny Goodtime is known for his work in Championship from Hollywood and PWG so seeing him on TV is great and well deserved too. I wonder if his tag team partner Johnny Yuma of RockNES Monsters is behind him? Well, regardless, happy for Johnny Goodtime as he will be playing Son of Madness. I’m looking forward to next week’s show. Good backstage segment here.

Overall, good show that helps build up storylines and feuds in the future as well as building up new characters. So many storylines and feuds here and I love it! Next week, the Cueto Cup continues with Prince Puma Vs. Ricky Mandel, Sexy Star Vs. PJ Black, Dragon Azteca Jr. Vs. Dante Fox, and Son of Havoc Vs. Son of Madness which should be great, looking forward to that. If you haven’t already, please check out Lucha Underground. It’s a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling and you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to next week’s show. Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!
