NXT on June 28, 2017 was a great show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:
We start off the show with a video package to hype up Asuka Vs. Nikki Cross for the NXT Women’s Championship in a Last Woman Standing match later on the show. This is good as it’s hyping up the main event later on the show which should be great. Well produced video package here.
Before I talk about the actual show itself, we have a new commentary team for NXT as Tom Phillips is no longer the play-by-play commentator for NXT as he is officially a part of the SmackDown Live! commentary team and his place is none other than Mauro Ranallo! Mark out moment! Great to see Mauro Ranallo back as I thought we would never see him again after he left SmackDown Live and 205 Live for a few months, but now he’s back and he’s going to be on NXT now and I’m happy for him. He did great tonight on the NXT commentary booth as I can’t wait to hear more from him. Welcome to NXT Mauro Ranallo!
HoHo Lun Vs. The Velveteen Dream was a good match. HoHo Lun made his return on NXT! Mark out moment! Great to see to my country boys getting in some action as hope to see more of them soon.
Even though HoHo Lun did get some offense in this match, The Velveteen Dream was too much for him as The Velveteen Dream finished off HoHo Lun with the diving elbow drop for the pin and win. The Velveteen Dream continues to pick up some wins as he’s looking to make a name for himself in NXT.
Good match and I’m waiting to see on what NXT will do with The Velveteen Dream.
The segment between Asuka and Nikki Cross in front of Full Sail University earlier in the show was great. Asuka was texting on her phone in a car near Full Sail University until Nikki Cross jumped up on the hood of the car as Nikki Cross tried to get in the car. Asuka then slammed the door on Nikki Cross as security pulled Nikki Cross back as Asuka exit the car and looked on at Nikki Cross.
Jeez, Nikki Cross is a maniac. She tried to attack Asuka while she’s inside a car. That’s insane. If we’re going to get this type of action later on the show between these two, it’s going to be amazing. Great segment here.
We then see Asuka backstage as she’s getting ready for her match against Nikki Cross for the NXT Women’s Championship in a Last Woman Standing match. It seems like Asuka is ready for a fight and I can’t wait for their match to happen.
We then get a recap of what happened three weeks ago as Hideo Itami hit Oney Lorcan with three Go To Sleeps to knocked him out as those two will face each other again coming up next. Nice, we’re going to get another match between these two as the last time these two fought, it was a great match. Hope we can more of them next.
The backstage segment between William Regal, Heavy Machinery, Authors of Pain, and Paul Ellering was good. William Regal was in his office as Heavy Machinery and Authors of Pain along with Paul Ellering were arguing with each other. William Regal then told them that there won’t be any altercations as in two weeks, it will be Authors of Pain Vs. Heavy Machinery for the NXT Tag Team Championships. Heavy Machinery were satisfied with it as they left where Paul Ellering poked fun of them. William Regal then told Paul Ellering that they’re a team that you don’t want to mess with.
Just like with Bobby Roode Vs. Roderick Strong for the NXT Championship, I felt like Authors of Pain Vs. Heavy Machinery for the NXT Tag Team Championships should happened at NXT Brooklyn III. Unless they have something big planned for Authors of Pain, I don’t think this is a wise decision. However, it should be an interesting match so I’m looking forward to it. Good backstage segment here.
Hideo Itami Vs. Oney Lorcan never got a proper ending as the moment the bell rang, Oney Lorcan hit Hideo Itami with a vicious European Uppercut followed by chops and more European Uppercuts as Hideo Itami got his nose busted open as the referee called for the bell as a no contest.
A shame that had to happen as I really want to see another match between these two after what they showcased three weeks ago. Hope Hideo Itami recovers from his nose injury. However, this got Oney Lorcan over huge so good for him. Really hope he gets pushed in the future.
We then get an announcement that next week, it will be Bobby Roode Vs. Roderick Strong for the NXT Championship. Should be a great match, but it should have happened at NXT Brooklyn III in my opinion. Either way, looking forward to it.
We then get a video package hyping up Bobby Roode Vs. Roderick Strong for the NXT Championship next week and it was good. Roderick Strong talked about how the one thing that he needs is the NXT Championship. Bobby Roode talked about how Roderick Strong isn’t worthy to be NXT Champion. Roderick Strong then said that Bobby Roode may have everything in his possession, but once he gets that NXT Championship, Bobby Roode will be a nobody. Bobby Roode said that he will end the story of Roderick Strong.
Just like last week, they’re making this feud very personal with this video package as it makes me want to support Roderick Strong to beat Bobby Roode for that NXT Championship. Can’t wait for the match between the two next week even though it should have happened at NXT Brooklyn III. Well produced video package here.
Hideo Itami Vs. Oney Lorcan was a great match. Hideo Itami came back into the ring with his nose already checked as he called out Oney Lorcan where Oney Lorcan came into the ring and the match has restarted. Nice to see that Hideo Itami is willing to restart the match despite the injury.
Oney Lorcan did great in this match as he showed his intensity in the ring. His European Uppercuts and running blockbuster on Hideo Itami looked devastating. Hideo Itami did great in this match too as he tried to get back on Oney Lorcan for breaking his nose. His kicks to Oney Lorcan looked painful as heck. Great performances by both men here.
The ending of the match came when Hideo Itami hit a Go To Sleep on Oney Lorcan for the pin and win. I really want to see another match between these two as these two have pretty good chemistry with each other. Hope we see another match between the two down the line.
After the match, Hideo Itami cut a promo by calling out Kassius Ohno to come into the ring as Kassius Ohno came in. As Hideo Itami was about to talk to Kassius Ohno more, SAnitY came in and attacked Kassius Ohno and Hideo Itami as they took them out cleared them out of the ring.
Alexander Wolfe then grabbed a mic and said that they’re here for one reason only. Killian Dain said that they’re here to create chaos. Alexander Wolfe said that Killian Dain is his undefeated friend and that Eric Young is away working on his master plan where he can’t wait to hear about it. The first note will be played by Nikki Cross as Alexander Wolfe and Killian Dain left the ring while Nikki Cross gets ready for her match against Asuka for the NXT Women’s Championship in a Last Woman Standing match.
SAnitY is here to create chaos and that starts with Nikki Cross. I really wonder what SAnitY has in plan for NXT, but we’ll have to see once Eric Young comes back. Till then, let’s talk about the main event next!
Great match and good post-match as I’m interested on what’s going to happen with Kassius Ohno, Hideo Itami, and SAnitY in NXT.
Asuka Vs. Nikki Cross in a Last Woman Standing match for the NXT Women’s Championship was excellent. Mark out moment! This was the first ever Last Woman Standing match in NXT history as these two women delivered that in the ring.
Nikki Cross did excellent in the match showing her deranged self. Her inverted DDT on Asuka on the ring apron looked devastating and painful as heck. Her four swinging fisherman’s neckbreakers on Asuka were devastating and I was surprised that Asuka got up from that.
Asuka did excellent in this match as well as she showed why she is still undefeated in NXT. Her kicks and missile dropkick on Nikki Cross with the trashcan looked devastating. The way she threw Nikki Cross from the top rope on to the chairs must be painful for Nikki Cross to bear.
There were certain spots in the match where I thought it was over. The spot where Nikki Cross hit a belly-to-back suplex on Asuka through the chairs as Asuka hit her head on the chairs with big impact. I was surprised that Asuka was okay after that. Not only that, Nikki Cross hit a powerbomb on Asuka from the ring apron to the floor on a pile on chairs. Ouch! Yet, Asuka still managed to get up from that. Incredible. Amazing performances from both women here. Absolutely magnificent.
The ending of the match came when Asuka hit a superplex on Nikki Cross on top of the ladder through the announcer table as Asuka got up before the count of ten as Nikki Cross got counted out where Asuka retained her NXT Women’s Championship! Mark out moment! Wow, just wow. What an amazing finish to an incredible match. Have to give both women props and respect here as they took this match to lengths that I didn’t expect. Even though Nikki Cross lost here, she looked excellent in defeat so she has nothing to be ashamed of. Not only that, it makes Asuka looked dominant more than ever. I really question who can beat Asuka at this point. I still think it’s Ember Moon, but only time will tell.
Excellent Last Woman Standing match and I’m interested to see what’s next for Asuka and Nikki Cross in NXT.
Overall, great show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we are going to have Bobby Roode Vs. Roderick Strong for the NXT Championship and Kassius Ohno & Hideo Itami Vs. SAnitY which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
