NXT on July 12, 2017 was a good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Let’s break it down:

We start off the show with a video package to hype up the return of Johnny Gargano after Tommaso Ciampa turned on him at NXT Chicago later on the show. This is good as it’s hyping up the return of Johnny Gargano later on the show as I’m interested to hear what he has to say. Well produced video package here.

The WWE.com exclusive with Roderick Strong from last week was good as he went to his family after the show and hugged them after his loss to Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship. Roderick Strong should have nothing to be ashamed of for losing to Bobby Roode last week, but losing in front of his family must be tough. He may have lost last week, but I can definitely see Roderick Strong getting another opportunity down the line.

Aleister Black Vs. Bobby Fish was a great match. Bobby Fish has made an appearance on NXT! Mark out moment! For those of you who don’t know, Bobby Fish is a veteran who has worked in ROH and NJPW for the past few years and now he has made an appearance in NXT. I don’t know if the company has signed him, but if he isn’t yet, he could be a valuable player in NXT to help with the young guys.

Bobby Fish did great in this match as he tried to make an impression on his debut in NXT. The way he worked on Aleister Black’s leg throughout the match was great in-ring psychology. Aleister Black did great in this match as he continues to be a force within NXT. His jumping high knee on Bobby Fish looked devastating as it knocked out Bobby Fish for a moment. Great performances by both men here.

The ending of the match came when Aleister Black hit the spin kick on Bobby Fish for the pin and win. Bobby Fish may have lost here, but he put up a great effort against Aleister Black. Aleister Black is a future NXT Champion and it’s only a matter of time before he gets his title shot. Fade to black!

Great match and I hope to see Bobby Fish again in NXT as a full-time member of the roster.

We then get a recap of what happened last week when SAnitY beat Kassius Ohno and Hideo Itami when Kassius Ohno and Hideo Itami had a miscommunication with each other. This is good as it shows what happened last week and it ties into the next segment which I will talk about next.

The backstage segment between Kassius Ohno and Hideo Itami from last week was good. Kassius Ohno was trying to talk to Hideo Itami backstage after their loss as Hideo Itami blamed Kassius Ohno for them losing. Kassius Ohno then told Hideo Itami that all he has done since NXT Chicago is blaming people and Hideo Itami should take some accountability for his actions. Kassius Ohno then Hideo Itami that he’s a man of action and he’s done talking as he left.

The tension between Kassius Ohno and Hideo Itami is increasing and it’s only a matter of time we see these two locked horns in the middle of the ring. I can’t wait for that match to happen which should be great. Good backstage segment here.

We then get a vignette of Street Profits and they’re coming to NXT soon. Street Profits are coming to NXT soon! Mark out moment! Street Profits contain Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford where they have been teaming up with each other in NXT live events for a while now and they’re making their NXT debut as a tag team soon. Can’t wait to see these guys together as they have potential.

The interview with The Velveteen Dream by Kayla Braxton outside of Full Sail University was good. The Velveteen Dream was leaving Full Sail University until Kayla Braxton came and tried to interview The Velveteen Dream. The Velveteen Dream told Kayla Braxton that he refused to be interviewed as he’s not like other superstars as he is The Velveteen Dream as he walked away.

I’m starting to really dig The Velveteen Dream character. I can’t wait to see him in a feud as it should be entertaining to watch. Good interview here.

Vanessa Borne Vs. Jayme Hachey in a Mae Young Classic qualifying match was solid. Both of these women have been training in the Performance Center for the past year or so and they are both still pretty green, but they both have potential to improve as time goes along.

The ending of the match came when Vanessa Borne hit Jayme Hachey with a leg hook spinning slam for the pin and win. Very innovative finisher from Vanessa Borne as she will participate in the Mae Young Classic next month which should be great and I can’t wait to watch.

Solid women’s match and congratulations to Vanessa Borne for being in the Mae Young Classic.

The segment between Drew McIntyre and SAnitY at the parking lot last week was good. Drew McIntyre was heading to his car at the parking lot until Alexander Wolfe came in and sat on his car. Drew McIntyre told Alexander Wolfe to get off his car as Killian Dain attacked Drew McIntyre from behind as Alexander Wolfe joined in. Killian Dain then threw Drew McIntyre through a trash can as Alexander Wolfe sat on a chair and laughed at him until officials came in to break it up.

I don’t know when or why this happened, but it seems like SAnitY has a problem with Drew McIntyre and they’re taking him out for it. I wonder how Drew McIntyre will respond to these actions from SAnitY. We’ll find out soon enough. Good segment here.

The backstage segment between Bobby Roode and William Regal was good. Bobby Roode was talking to William Regal in his office as William Regal told Bobby Roode that Drew McIntyre and Killian Dain are both undefeated and they have interest in the NXT Championship. Bobby Roode then told William Regal that they’re both smart businessmen as the NXT Universe pays good money to see Bobby Roode in action. Bobby Roode said that he can beat both Drew McIntyre and Killian Dain any day of the week. Bobby Roode then suggest to William Regal that it should be Drew McIntyre Vs. Killian Dain.

William Regal then asked Bobby Roode if he wants to see Drew McIntyre and Killian Dain kill each other in the ring as he told Bobby Roode that people will be interested in seeing that match. He then told Bobby Roode that next week, it will be Drew McIntyre Vs. Killian Dain where the winner will face Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship at NXT Brooklyn III.

Drew McIntyre Vs. Killian Dain in a #1 Contender’s match is intriguing as both men are undefeated at the moment and either one of them could be an intriguing opponent for Bobby Roode at NXT Brooklyn III. Looking forward to that match next week to see who will face “The Glorious One”. Good backstage segment here.

The promo segment with Johnny Gargano was good. Johnny Gargano came out to the ring and talked about how he missed the chants from the crowd. He said that he has been gone for a while, but the fans and the ring are irreplaceable. Whenever he heard his music, he got excited because he knew that the fans would get something special, but then NXT Chicago happened and he never saw it coming. He then said that he would never thought the guy he was willing to take a bullet for was the one who would pull the trigger on him. He then talked about how he tried to rationalize the decisions that were made and he asked himself why. He then told himself that he would never get it or understand why Tommaso Ciampa turned on him.

Johnny Gargano then said that he’s not here to dwell on the past as he’s looking into the future. Sometimes, you can’t control your life, but you can react to them and Johnny Gargano said that he is right here and he wants to get back on what he loves doing and that is to wrestle. He then talked about how NXT Brooklyn III is coming and that he wants to be a part of that show because he wants to be Johnny Gargano again, but more importantly, he wants to be Johnny Wrestling again as he left the ring.

I could tell that Johnny Gargano is still hurt from what Tommaso Ciampa did to him at NXT Brooklyn III, but he’s planning to move on and rise up in the singles ranks in NXT. I wonder who he will feud with until Tommaso Ciampa comes back from injury, I guess we’ll find out soon enough. Johnny Wrestling!

Good promo segment as I can’t wait to see what’s next for Johnny Gargano in NXT without Tommaso Ciampa.

We then get an announcement that next week, we will get Drew McIntyre Vs. Killian Dain in a #1 Contender’s match and Ember Moon Vs. Ruby Riot. Both matches looked to be very interesting next week and I’m looking forward on how they will turn out.

Authors of Pain Vs. Heavy Machinery for the NXT Tag Team Championships was a good tag team match. I didn’t expect this match to be a technical masterpiece or anything like that, but a big fight and brawl which I got in this match where I want to see more between these two teams.

Heavy Machinery did well in this match as they proved that they have what it takes to be tag team champions in NXT. Otis Dozovic‘s overhead belly-to-belly suplex on Rezar was awesome! Mark out moment! I rarely see big men being toss around like that and seeing that was awesome. Authors of Pain did well in this match too as they showed why they are undefeated as NXT Tag Team Champions. The sidewalk slam/diving single foot stomp combination on Tucker Knight was well executed. Good performances by both teams here.

The ending of the match came when Authors of Pain hit Otis Dozovic with the Russian legsweep/clothesline combination for the pin and win. Authors of Pain retained their NXT Tag Team Championships while Heavy Machinery looked good in defeat. I would like to see a rematch between these two teams down the line as they have the potential to deliver a great tag team match involving big men.

After the match, SAnitY came out on the ramp as they looked up towards the ceiling as pieces of paper came down as they were pages of Paul Ellering’s Book of Dominance. Authors of Pain and Paul Ellering were staring at SAnitY as the show closes.

It seems like we got our next feud for the NXT Tag Team Championships as SAnitY wants a shot for the NXT Tag Team Championships. I really don’t know if SAnitY would be the right opponents for Authors of Pain since both teams are heels, but the feud and match could be interesting between the two teams, but we’ll have to see.

Good tag team match and good post-match as I’m intrigued on what NXT will do in this Authors of Pain and SAnitY feud.

Overall, good show that is building up characters as well as possibly building new feuds and storylines in the near future. Next week, we are going to have Drew McIntyre Vs. Killian Dain in a #1 Contender’s match for the NXT Championship and Ember Moon Vs. Ruby Riot which should be interesting to see. Looking forward to it. NXT! NXT! NXT!
