205 Live on July 18, 2017 was a great show. 205 Live is a show where the cruiserweights take center stage as they will risk their bodies to entertain us wrestling fans. Let’s break it down:
We start off the show with a video package hyping up Mustafa Ali Vs. Drew Gulak in a 2 Out of 3 Falls match. This is good as they’re hyping up the match which should be great. Well produced video package here.
Mustafa Ali Vs. Drew Gulak in a 2 Out of 3 Falls match was excellent. Mark out moment! After feuding with each other for months, it finally came to an end where both men gave it all in this match to show which style is more fit for the cruiserweight division. Going to break this match into three parts so let’s get to it!
The lead up to the first fall in this match was good as both men were trying to figure out how to beat the other quickly in fashion. Both men had some nice technical exchanges in this match which is nice to see.
The first fall came when Mustafa Ali rolled up Drew Gulak with a briding pin to win the first fall. Once again, Mustafa Ali got the upper hand on Drew Gulak here by once again using a technical move. Let’s see how Drew Gulak will rebound from this.
The lead up to the second fall in this match was great as they changed into second gear knowing that Drew Gulak needs to get a win here if he wants to win the entire match. Mustafa Ali’s dropkick on Drew Gulak was beautifully executed and his hurricanrana from the barricade to the floor on Drew Gulak looked painful as heck especially for Mustafa Ali with his landing. Drew Gulak was working on the head and neck of Mustafa Ali by pushing him over the ropes and throwing him towards the turnbuckle.
The second fall came when Drew Gulak applied the dragon sleeper on Mustafa Ali where Mustafa Ali tapped out as Drew Gulak won the second fall. Drew Gulak got the better of Mustafa Ali here as he’s one step closer of winning this match.
The lead up to the third and final fall was excellent as both men gave everything they had in the last fall. The way Drew Gulak countered Mustafa Ali’s hurricanrana into a powerbomb was beautifully executed. His suplex to the corner and clothesline on Mustafa Ali looked devastating as it took out Mustafa Ali for a moment. Mustafa Ali hit a beautiful reverse hurricanrana, Tornado DDT, and Frankensteiner on Drew Gulak. Excellent work from both men here.
The ending of the match came when Mustafa Ali hit an inverted 450 splash on Drew Gulak for the pin and win. Mustafa Ali has finally got his revenge on Drew Gulak and this feud between them is finally over. After this win, I expect Mustafa Ali to get a future title shot at the WWE Cruiserweight Championship, but only time will tell.
Excellent 2 Out of 3 Falls match and I’m intrigued to see what happens next with Mustafa Ali and Drew Gulak in the cruiserweight division.
We then get a recap of what happened on Monday Night Raw when Ariya Daivari defeated Akira Tozawa by Titus O’Neil telling the referee to stop the match where Titus O’Neil told Akira Tozawa that he did it to make sure he’s okay, but Akira Tozawa wants a match with Ariya Daivari on 205 Live as he left. This is good as it shows what happened on Monday Night Raw and it leads to the next segment which I will talk about next.
The backstage segment between Akira Tozawa and Apollo Crews earlier in the show was good. Akira Tozawa was getting ready backstage until Apollo Crews came in and told Akira Tozawa that he shouldn’t be facing Ariya Daivari in his condition. Akira Tozawa told Apollo Crews that he’s fine, but Apollo Crews told him that he knows that Akira Tozawa is not fine as he was in the same situation as him when he went up against Braun Strowman on Monday Night Raw. Akira Tozawa stopped Apollo Crews and said to him that Titus O’Neil had no right to stop the match and Apollo Crews agreed with him, but told him that Titus O’Neil does care about them and he wish Akira Tozawa luck as he left.
Nice to see two members of Monster Express together here going back to their Dragon Gate days. Despite being injured, Akira Tozawa is ready for a fight and he’ll probably bring it against Ariya Daivari. Good backstage segment here.
We then see The Brian Kendrick backstage as he looks furious as he heads to the ring. The Brian Kendrick looks pissed so let’s see what he’s going to do next.
Devin Bennett Vs. The Brian Kendrick was a good squash match. Before the match starts, The Brian Kendrick grabbed a mic and asked Devin Bennett about if he’s really from Manchester, England, and if he knows Gentleman Jack Gallagher where Devin Bennett said yes. The Brian Kendrick then asked Devin Bennett if the people in England are proud of Gentleman Jack Gallagher in where Devin Bennett said yes. The Brian Kendrick then told Devin Bennett that Gentleman Jack Gallagher is a clown and asked him if he thinks that he can beat him in which Devin Bennett said yes he can as the match starts.
Man, I have to admit that Devin Bennett has some guts to think that he can beat The Brian Kendrick, but he was just standing up for himself, for Gentleman Jack Gallagher, and for England so it’s pretty reasonable. Anyway, back to the match itself.
Devin Bennett did manage to get a punch on The Brian Kendrick, but The Brian Kendrick got the better of Devin Bennett by making him tap out to the Captain’s Hook for the win. The Brian Kendrick sent a message to Gentleman Jack Gallagher, but how will he respond? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
Good squash match and I’m interested to see what Gentleman Jack Gallagher will respond to The Brian Kendrick’s actions.
We then get a recap of what happened last week when Cedric Alexander defeated Noam Dar in an I Quit match and Noam Dar leaving Alicia Fox afterwards. This is good as it shows what happened last week as the feud between them is over. What’s next for them? Hopefully, we’ll get that answer soon.
The backstage interview with TJP by Dasha Fuentes was good. Dasha Fuentes showed footage to TJP of what happened last week when Rich Swann defeated Mario Conners, but TJP defeated Mario Conners in quicker fashion afterwards. TJP then said that Rich Swann is the only one who is upset about all of this as Rich Swann lost to him at the Cruiserweight Classic last year. He then said that he’ll make it up to Rich Swann as next week, it will be Rich Swann and a partner of his choosing Vs. TJP and a partner of his choosing as he left.
Interesting way to have a friendly competition from TJP here. I wonder who the partner will be for Rich Swann and TJP next week, but we’ll find out probably next week or Monday Night Raw. Good backstage interview here.
Akira Tozawa Vs. Ariya Daivari was a great match. After Ariya Daivari made his entrance, he cut a promo about he has traveled all over the world and he loves competing in his home country, Iran. He then said that wrestling has a prestige in Iran for thousands of years as he praised an Olympic Gold Medalist from Iran named Emam-Ali Habibi. He then said that Emam-Ali Habibi won his glod medal in 1956 by defeating a Japanese Olympian where he did the same thing to Akira Tozawa on Monday Night Raw. He then said that Akira Tozawa trying to wrestle him with an injured shoulder is an idiotic move as he plans to beat Akira Tozawa again to become one of Iran’s greats as Akira Tozawa made his entrance afterwards.
It seems like WWE is interested in Iran as of late with what happened on Monday Night Raw and here on this show. Maybe more wrestlers from Iran will come to WWE soon, but we’ll see. Anyway, back to the match itself.
Ariya Daivari did great in this match as he dedicated this match to his home country in Iran. The way he was working on Akira Tozawa’s arm throughout the whole match was great in-ring psychology. Akira Tozawa did great in this match as well despite having an injured shoulder. His suicide dive and running knee strike on Ariya Daivari were well executed. Great performances by both men here.
The ending of the match came when Akira Tozawa reversed Ariya Daivari’s pin while holding his tights into his own pin while holding the tights for the pin and win. Talk about fair play here as Ariya Daivari suffered because of this. Akira Tozawa barely gets the win with an injured shoulder.
After the match, Ariya Daivari attacked Akira Tozawa by throwing him shoulder first to the ring post as Ariya Daivari yelled at him before leaving.
Akira Tozawa paid the price for beating Ariya Daivari by cheating. I have a feeling this isn’t the end between Akira Tozawa and Ariya Daivari after what transpired here.
Great match and good post-match as I wonder what Akira Tozawa will do to Ariya Daivari after what happened post-match.
Overall, great show for the thirty fourth episode of 205 Live. It’s great to see the cruiserweights with more focus and attention here and it’s only going to get better from here. Looking forward to it.
