Topic/Subject: Today, I will be showing a match that involves a devious woman.

Wrestler: “The Devious One” Serena (Serena Deeb/Mia Mancini).

Background Information: Serena is billed from Fairfax, Virginia. She is trained by the OVW Wrestling School.

She started her wrestling career in the OVW Wrestling School as she trained from March to November 2005 after relocating from Virginia to Kentucky to attend the OVW Wrestling School.

She made her debut in OVW at a house show on November 4, 2005, as she teamed up with Fuji Cakes in a losing effort against Shelly Martinez and Beth Phoenix.

She then began to feud with ODB in early June as Martinez guest refereed a tag team match where she and Daisy Mae defeated ODB and Sosay.

When she became the OVW Women’s Champion, she became the target of Beth Phoenix and managed to defend her belt successfully against her once on a house show on September 16, 2006, but lost a televised rematch on October 4, 2006.

In 2007, she spent many weeks in a variety of tag team matches in an attempt to gain an opportunity at the OVW Women’s Champion and getting revenge on Beth Phoenix too before competing in the Miss OVW Divalympics. Though ODB would eventually win this competition.

She ended up taking part in a brief story where wrestler Moose sought her affections where he eventually won a match to get a right to a date after defeating Lumpy Magoo in late September 2008.

In 2009, she became a villain for the first time in her career as she aligned herself with The Insurgency (Ali Akbar, Turcan Celik, and Bin Hamin).

Throughout her OVW career, she became a 6x OVW Women’s Champion. She competed with OVW until she signed with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

On October 22, 2006, she began working for Shimmer Women Athletes at Volume 5 where she was defeated by the evil Amber O’Neal in her debut match after O’Neal used her tights to keep her down.

She was involved in a car crash as there was a tournament to determine the first ever Shimmer Champion and thus could not participate. An interview with her about the situation happened on Volume 12 as she revealed her desire to challenge the eventual Shimmer Champion having missed out on her tournament opportunity, but still could not maintain a winning streak as she fell victim to Rain and later her tag team partner Jetta.

She competed with Shimmer until she got a contract with WWE.

On May 19, 2009, on an episode of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)’s ECW on Sci Fi, she was seen standing backstage while Finlay was walking to the ring.

She initially denied she signed with WWE, but Shimmer promoter, Dave Prazak, confirmed that a contract had been negotiated on July 1, 2009.

She made her debut on July 15, 2009, at a Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) house show where she teamed with Maria and Angela Fong to win against the team of Natalya, Layla, and Alicia Fox in a six diva tag team match.

In her televised debut match, she defeated Layla. Her ring name was soon changed to Serena Mancini and once again to Mia Mancini, portraying the character of a mafia boss’ daughter.

Throughout her FCW career, she became Queen of FCW and competed with FCW until she called up to the main roster.

On January 22, 2010, on an episode of SmackDown, she made an appearance as she was playing the part of an audience member before jumping over the crowd barrier to join CM Punk’s group of straight edge followers as part of the initiation. She agreed to have her head shaved bald.

On January 29, 2010, she reappeared with Punk and Luke Gallows, now as a member of villainous group the Straight Edge Society for their match against D-Generation X for the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship.

On August 20, 2010, she was released from her WWE contract reportedly for not living out her straight edge persona in public as SmackDown was pre-recorded.

On September 11, 2010, at the Volume 33 taping for Shimmer, she made an unannounced return to the promotion answering Kellie Skater’s open challenge and defeating her in a singles match.

Due to Shimmer’s working relationship with Ring of Honor (ROH), she began to make occasional appearances for ROH in 2007 as part of February’s Fifth Year Festival as she teamed up with MsChif in a losing effort to the Dangerous Angels (Danger and Del Rey).

She appeared at Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA)’s pay-per-view Slammiversary in June 2008 where she took part in Awesome Kong’s $25,000 Fan Challenge in a three-minute squash match.

In November 2008, at a Pro Wrestling Syndicate (PWS) show, she wrestled Daffney for the vacant NWA France Women’s Championship in which she won. After winning the title, she traveled to France to defend the belt under the International Catch Wrestling Alliance (ICWA) the following month.

She found herself back in France during March 2009 for American Wrestling Rampage (AWP)’s nine day tour of France.

In early 2009, she appeared in the fledgling all-female Wrestlicious promotion.

In November 2010, she debuted for Women Superstars Uncensored (WSU) as a villain with a victory over Traci Brooks on WSU’s first internet pay-per-view (iPPV).

In January 2011, she made her first excursion to Japan as she worked with Yoshihiro Tajiri’s promotion Smash.

On April 19, 2011, she wrestled a dark match in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), but lost to Winter in her return. On March 17, 2013, she took part of the Knockouts Knockdown PPV that aired on September 6, 2013, and competed against Mickie James

On October 22, 2011, she announced that she was taking an indefinite break from wrestling following her doctor’s instructions after suffering a serious concussion.

She made her debut for Shine Wrestling at SHINE 16 on January 24, 2014, and defeated Santana Garrett in her debut match. Later in the event, she turned heel by attacking newly crowned SHINE Champion Ivelisse and later establishing herself as the new leader of Valkyrie where she replaced the retired Rain.

On March 21, 2014, she appeared for the Queens of Combat promotion as a heel and was defeated by former TNA Knockout Taeler Hendrix in the main event of their first show.

She made an appearance for TNA Impact Wrestling in an episode aired on July 29, 2015, where she wrestled in a mixed tag team match with James Storm against Mickie James and Magnus.

She announced her retirement from wrestling and wrestled her last match on July 10, 2015, where she started to become a yoga instructor after her retirement from the ring.

She learned Spanish and has a desire to learn more languages. She also enjoys Arabic, Thai, and Italian food as she also has interest in traveling.

My Thoughts: Serena was a talented individual that could have done so much in wrestling. She had a good look, she has a good presence in and outside of the ring, she has a good character, great charisma, and she’s a great wrestler in the ring. Straight edge!

Video: This video contains a match between Serena and Aksana on May 9, 2010.

My Thoughts: This was a solid women’s match that showcased Serena’s skills in the ring as she was displaying her new straightedge character. This match was a first round match in a tournament to crown the first ever FCW Divas Championship.

As Serena was making her way to the ring, she had a video promo saying that she’s going to win this tournament to become the first ever FCW Divas Championship and she’s doing it for CM Punk to prove that straightedge means that she’s better.

Pretty standard promo, but it went well with her character at this time as she was aligning herself with CM Punk and Straightedge Society.

The way she was working on Aksana’s arm throughout the match was good in-ring psychology. Even though she didn’t hit the fireman’s carry dropped onto a knee in the gut properly, it still looked painful and it got her the win.

A solid women’s match as she showcased her in-ring skills as well as showing her new straightegde persona.

It’s such a shame that she has retired from professional wrestling as she could have been someone that has potential to be a star in WWE as a women’s wrestler especially with her straightedge persona as she stood out compared to the rest of the women on the roster back then.

Unfortunately, she didn’t follow her character through outside of the company and that led to her departure. She’s no wrestling anymore as she’s currently as a yoga instructor as I wish her the best of luck. Straight edge!
